Summary

New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns with The Last Legacy, a captivating standalone about family and blood ties, reinventing yourself, and controlling your own destiny。

When a letter from her uncle Henrik arrives on Bryn Roth's eighteenth birthday, summoning her back to Bastian, Bryn is eager to prove herself and finally take her place in her long-lost family。

Henrik has plans for Bryn, but she must win everyone’s trust if she wants to hold any power in the delicate architecture of the family。 It doesn’t take long for her to see that the Roths are entangled in shadows。 Despite their growing influence in upscale Bastian, their hands are still in the kind of dirty business that got Bryn’s parents killed years ago。 With a forbidden romance to contend with and dangerous work ahead, the cost of being accepted into the Roths may be more than Bryn can pay。

I really enjoyed this! I think I mostly love the characters and world that Adrienne Young creates that at this point, I'll just read anything she puts out in it 😅Bryn is a great new character and I loved reading about her finding out where she fits in the cutthroat Roth family。 I'll always stan a female character who goes against what is expected to forge her own path。 The love interest did feel a bit rushed or the plot slow at times but it was the forbidden romance trope so I was hooked regardl I really enjoyed this!

This is a standalone book set in the same world as the Fable duology。 While the Fable books were nautical, sear-faring journeys, The Last Legacy is set on solid ground in the city of Bastian。 Young brings her signature worldbuilding, complex character relationships。 and emotional depth to Bryn's story。 Within the pages are a tightly woven plot, an enticing forbidden romance, and one girl willing to do whatever it takes to make her own destiny。 This is a standalone book set in the same world as the Fable duology。 While the Fable books were nautical, sear-faring journeys, The Last Legacy is set on solid ground in the city of Bastian。 Young brings her signature worldbuilding, complex character relationships。 and emotional depth to Bryn's story。 Within the pages are a tightly woven plot, an enticing forbidden romance, and one girl willing to do whatever it takes to make her own destiny。 。。。more

This was amazing。 I will seriously read anything Adrienne Young writes。 My thoughts right now are just: BRYN IN A SUIT and EZRA IS MY BOYFRIEND。 SO GOOD。

As a huge Young fan, this is my least favorite of her books but still a solid 4 star read。 It is a standalone in the Fable world, but I’d highly recommend reading Fable, Namesake, and Tides prior to going into this one because the nuances of the world and politics will put you on a more stable ground for The Last Legacy。 This story reads as a coming of age story for Bryn as she turns 18 and returns to her family home to assume her role in the Roth family。 A family of crime。 The romance was a slo As a huge Young fan, this is my least favorite of her books but still a solid 4 star read。 It is a standalone in the Fable world, but I’d highly recommend reading Fable, Namesake, and Tides prior to going into this one because the nuances of the world and politics will put you on a more stable ground for The Last Legacy。 This story reads as a coming of age story for Bryn as she turns 18 and returns to her family home to assume her role in the Roth family。 A family of crime。 The romance was a slow burn, and I enjoyed the tension between the characters。 The plot was slower to take hold, and not as nail biting as I would’ve liked it to be。 The attention to “breath” was a bit redundant and truly the main reason for me knocking a star。 I think what else was missing for me was the aesthetic vibes of Adrienne’s books that I’ve come to love。 This one felt lacking on that front。 In her newsletter she shared that this story was inspired from the Peaky Blinders show (which I loved)。 I can absolutely see the similarities since I went in looking for it, but had I not been told that I don’t think I would’ve made the connection。 I enjoyed it a lot more than other YA books, but not as much as her previous stories。 All that said, I will still preorder anything she writes haha! I love the Fable world, but I’m eager to see what new projects and worlds Adrienne has cooking up。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 The Last Legacy is another solid offering from Young。 Set in the same world as Fable, The Last Legacy takes a deeper look at the Roth family and their Patriarch's quest for a merchant ring。 The story surrounds Bryn who returns to her family on her 18th birthday to take her rightful place by her Uncle's side。 But she soon realizes her family isn't everything she dreamt they would be。 Young takes us on another adventure - this time on solid ground - full of deceit, intrigue, and of cour 3。5 stars。 The Last Legacy is another solid offering from Young。 Set in the same world as Fable, The Last Legacy takes a deeper look at the Roth family and their Patriarch's quest for a merchant ring。 The story surrounds Bryn who returns to her family on her 18th birthday to take her rightful place by her Uncle's side。 But she soon realizes her family isn't everything she dreamt they would be。 Young takes us on another adventure - this time on solid ground - full of deceit, intrigue, and of course love。 Very nice addition! 。。。more

4。5 rounded up。 Returning to the “Fable” world feels like putting on a hoodie sweatshirt after spending all day on the beach (peak contentment for me)。 The only thing is that I wish these books were much longer, I want more!

I can definitively say now that The Last Legacy is my favorite book by Adrienne Young。 I devoured this book in 5 hours (it's a short, low-commitment read!) because I was super excited to jump back into the world of the Unnamed Sea, first introduced in Fable。 I loved learning about the Roth family and seeing the dynamics between all of the family members play out。 If you’re looking for a low-fantasy standalone and love movies & TV shows about crime families, this book would be perfect for you! Overall, I’d give it 4。5 stars。The Last Legacy starts off with Bryn arriving in Bastian on her uncle, Henrik’s, demand。 I really liked following Bryn as a main character--she’s super confident and smart, but also has moments of vulnerability, which I loved。 Because this book is just a snapshot of Bryn’s time in Bastian, we didn’t get to see much of her life before returning to Bastian, which I think could have been cool to see。 I love how quickly she was able to pick up on the dynamics of everyone in the family and how she would quietly observe everyone during dinner to figure out the hierarchy of the family。 Speaking of the hierarchy of the family, I found Henrik to be such an interesting character。 Not even 10 chapters in, I had literal chills from the tasks that he made Bryn do and when Bryn realized his true motives。 Every single interaction between him and Bryn had me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, because I didn’t know if he had found out Bryn’s motive and was about to suddenly explode at her。Another dynamic that I was, of course, super interested to follow along was Ezra and Bryn。 Ezra seemed so different in this book than he did when he reunited with Auster a year ago in Namesake, and so I was immediately intrigued to find out what his deal was。 I loved his growth from having this cold, condescending exterior in his interactions with Bryn to slowly starting to let her in and eventually team up with her against Henrik。 I really liked how even though he wasn’t super outspoken in this novel, you could clearly tell what his thoughts and feelings were with the way Adrienne Young described his body language。 All the secrets about him, Henrik, Coen, and Simon were revealed really well, too。I’m honestly so sad that this is a standalone novel。 I could read about Bryn and Ezra forever, and I want to know so badly how their lives will look after The Last Legacy。 I also have so many questions about the remaining family members in the Roth family, like Murrow, and their true motives as well。 I definitely recommend picking this up and I’m excited to see what Adrienne Young has in store next! 。。。more

I received this as an ARC from Net Galley, and below are my opinions of the book。I was SO excited to return back to the lands of Fable, because I honestly believe I could read books about that world forever! (I secretly hope she never stops writing stories about that world!) Ahhhh, I LOVE this book。 I adored Fable and Namesake, and this book was the return to the Unnamed Sea that I needed。 The Roths are such an interesting and complex family。 Bryn is now one of my favorite protagonists。 She is poised and smart and not afraid to stand up for herself。 I just loved her journey。 And oh how I love Ezra。 Pretty sure Bryn and Ezra are my new favorites in the Unnamed Sea (Sorry Fable and West!) The ending was soooo good! I literally devoured the last 50% of this book! The Last Legacy by Adrienne Young is a fun addition to the world Ms。 Young first brought to us in Fable and Namesake。 I personally enjoyed the chance to see a different aspect of Fable’s larger world。 Bryn is not as fierce as Fable, which is a bit disappointing。 I’m pretty sure Fable could have given any of the Roths a run for their money in attitude and danger。 Her insta-love with Ezra is a bit odd given its intensity and their willingness to risk their lives for each other after only two days。 The Last Legacy by Adrienne Young is a fun addition to the world Ms。 Young first brought to us in Fable and Namesake。 I personally enjoyed the chance to see a different aspect of Fable’s larger world。 Bryn is not as fierce as Fable, which is a bit disappointing。 I’m pretty sure Fable could have given any of the Roths a run for their money in attitude and danger。 Her insta-love with Ezra is a bit odd given its intensity and their willingness to risk their lives for each other after only two days。 Still, it’s a fun story that brings us back into the dark and shady world of gems and trade and gives us greater insight into Bastian’s ruling families。 。。。more

Adrienne Young's books are among my favorite books, and The Last Legacy was no exception。 At first I was sceptical because I really really loved the nautical setting of Fable and Namesake, but TLL turned out to be what probably is my favorite of her books。 The characters are so well written and there's so much depht to them。 How they acted and what were the reasons behind it, how they changed, it's so amazingly well done on a psychological level。 The plot was perfectly fitted in with the charact Adrienne Young's books are among my favorite books, and The Last Legacy was no exception。 At first I was sceptical because I really really loved the nautical setting of Fable and Namesake, but TLL turned out to be what probably is my favorite of her books。 The characters are so well written and there's so much depht to them。 How they acted and what were the reasons behind it, how they changed, it's so amazingly well done on a psychological level。 The plot was perfectly fitted in with the characters so it became a totally fluent story and I couldn't stop reading。Also, Ezra is one of my favorite characters of all time。 As a non-writer, it's beyond me how anyone can create characters like him from their mind。Now I'm off waiting for Fallen City :) 。。。more

If you read Fable and Namesake, you definitely want to check this book out! (And I would suggest reading those before this one since they technically take place before and you will have a lot better understanding of the world and even the Roth family。) Set in the same world, we follow a Roth we have not yet met before: Bryn。 She returns to Bastian after her eighteenth birthday to join the rest of her family after being brought up by her great-aunt。 Though Bryn has heard the tales of her well known family and has been taught important skills to take her place, she is still unprepared for what that truly means。 The Roth family as we have seen before has its secrets and influence and own sort of power。 But there is still one thing the family, or really Henrik, wants。 A guild ring。 He is almost there but he will need Bryn to get him through the final hoops。 As Bryn tries to prove herself she can't help but be pulled to Ezra, the silversmith and the only one in the household who is not a Roth。 He was taken in by Henrik when he was a child after discovering his skill as a silversmith and has been there ever since。 Like the stories before this one, there are plenty of twists and turns, secrets and lies, and bargains that you won't see coming。 Everyone is playing a game and no one wants to lose。 Bryn learns quickly that the best way to survive is to look at for herself but can she truly do that when she comes to care for some who her under the same roof? She'll have to truly become a Roth to forge and save her own future。 I really loved this story。 It was quite the insight to the mysterious Roth family。 We saw glimpses of them in the previous books but now we get a more inside look and they are just as complicated as we previously saw them。 Great follow up story in this world! 。。。more

It felt good to be back in the Unnamed Sea。。。。。I loved Adrienne Young’s Fable duology, and this spinoff set in the same world was fun to return to that setting。 Was it necessary? Probably not。 But。 I really enjoyed reading about Bryn and her story and learning more about the Roth’s and their schemes and tricks。 I liked it。 It was entertaining。 I’m curious to see what she writes next。
