This was so difficult to read to the kids。 I suffered badly。 My kids cried。 I choked while reading it。 I don't ever want to go through that again。 It was painful。It ended well but just barely。 There was so much to deal with in this one book。 Not one I'll ever read to the kids again。 This was so difficult to read to the kids。 I suffered badly。 My kids cried。 I choked while reading it。 I don't ever want to go through that again。 It was painful。It ended well but just barely。 There was so much to deal with in this one book。 Not one I'll ever read to the kids again。 。。。more

The Vanderbeekers are by far one of my favorite literary families! I want to move into the brownstone with them and their neighbors and meet all of their friends。 This book was just as good as the previous ones。 The Vanderbeekers are out to make sure Orlando doesn’t leave them, Mr。 Biederman runs the New Your City Marathon, and that Mr。 Jeet & Mrs。 Josie are taken care of。 Filled with lots of laughs and some tears, Lost and Found is a must read!

4。0⭐️ I would put the Vanderbeekers right up there alongside The Penderwicks as my favourite modern day family in kids lit。 Gosh how I love them。 There’s something about the spirit of these books that is magical and rare - wise and gentle and sweet but never beyond belief or saccharine。 This installment tackles some harder topics, and does it with a deft directness that is just what most kids appreciate。Understandably, there weren’t as many moments of humour in this one, which I missed because t 4。0⭐️ I would put the Vanderbeekers right up there alongside The Penderwicks as my favourite modern day family in kids lit。 Gosh how I love them。 There’s something about the spirit of these books that is magical and rare - wise and gentle and sweet but never beyond belief or saccharine。 This installment tackles some harder topics, and does it with a deft directness that is just what most kids appreciate。Understandably, there weren’t as many moments of humour in this one, which I missed because that’s one of my favourite things about the characters。I hope the author writes more and more about the Vanderbeekers。 I adore them。 CW: Abandonment, Chronic illness, Death, Grief, Medical content, Homelessness, and Terminal illness 。。。more

I had been really, really, REALLY looking forward to this book。 (I mean really, like, I kept a countdown)。 The day I got my copy, I read it all in one sitting。 I would like to give a warning to anybody who does not like really sad, dramatic books。 If you pick this up as the first in the series, it is a spoiler for the first three, and if you read them in order, well, it makes it a lot more sad and dramatic。As much as I love the Vanderbeekers, I think I have the unpopular opinion here。 I was hopi I had been really, really, REALLY looking forward to this book。 (I mean really, like, I kept a countdown)。 The day I got my copy, I read it all in one sitting。 I would like to give a warning to anybody who does not like really sad, dramatic books。 If you pick this up as the first in the series, it is a spoiler for the first three, and if you read them in order, well, it makes it a lot more sad and dramatic。As much as I love the Vanderbeekers, I think I have the unpopular opinion here。 I was hoping to love it more than The Vanderbeekers to the Rescue, and unfortunately, it fell a little flat。 My two least favorite books in the series are now The Vanderbeekers Lost and Found, and The Vanderbeekers and the Hidden Garden。 (*Sighs*)。 Here's why I think I enjoyed it a little less than the others:I think there was just So。 Much。 Going。 On that there wasn't time for the details that make a book really good for me。 My description of how the book was written would be a slightly less boisterous and more sentimental sports commentator。 Now, it isn't impossible to have a book with a lot going on and still manage to put in lots of good details。 If you want an example, take Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo。 Don't get me wrong, that book is very, well, depressing and deep and all of that, but the author still keeps ahold of the details and the writing style doesn't feel sports-commentator-ish。 Or even The Penderwicks in Spring。 That's a better example, since it's about a large family。 However, the Vanderbeekers didn't hold their usual charm for me。 I think if you have to write a book with a lot going on, you have to do it with grace and showing not telling。 There was an awful lot of telling in this book。 One other small problem: there are just one too many pets in toe here。 The chickens and lots of pets weren't my thing。 Three was a lot。 I don't even know how many pets there are in this book。Don't get me wrong, you shouldn't skip over this book。 But it was a disappointment for me。 。。。more

This was my first time reading about The Vanderbeekers。 I was unaware that it was a series and am definitely hooked and prepared to read it's predecessors。 The Vanderbeekers are a family of 7 - 2 parents of different races, 5 biracial kids, and their many pets。 I thoroughly appreciated that there was a little family tree at the beginning of this story to help me keep track of all the characters that were mentioned in the first chapter。 This story follows the kids on their hunt to figure out who This was my first time reading about The Vanderbeekers。 I was unaware that it was a series and am definitely hooked and prepared to read it's predecessors。 The Vanderbeekers are a family of 7 - 2 parents of different races, 5 biracial kids, and their many pets。 I thoroughly appreciated that there was a little family tree at the beginning of this story to help me keep track of all the characters that were mentioned in the first chapter。 This story follows the kids on their hunt to figure out who the mystery person is that is sleeping in the community garden every night。 The book's main plot lines focused on two very heavy subjects, homelessness and loss of a loved one。 The author navigated these topics with compassion and sensitivity which I think is oftentimes difficult depending on the targeted audience of the novel。Thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be checking the others out in the series。I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Of all the Vanderbeeker books, I loved this one the best。 The Vanderbeekers are known for going big when they have a project in mind or when they set out to help a neighbor (or the neighborhood!)。 This 4th book had them deal with more "mature" issues like child homelessness and death of a loved one。 I felt the latter was very well written and it was very touching the way the children said goodbye。 Although this part was not in the summary, I felt that this was actually what took the book to the Of all the Vanderbeeker books, I loved this one the best。 The Vanderbeekers are known for going big when they have a project in mind or when they set out to help a neighbor (or the neighborhood!)。 This 4th book had them deal with more "mature" issues like child homelessness and death of a loved one。 I felt the latter was very well written and it was very touching the way the children said goodbye。 Although this part was not in the summary, I felt that this was actually what took the book to the next level。As the children grow older and deal with issues related to it, I am glad that the author continues to make this book suitable to its younger audiences。 It's hard to find books like this these days so I appreciate the author staying true to her target audience。 Kudos and I look forward to the Book #5! 。。。more
