A classic children's book although I'm unsure if I'll recommend reading it to children。 My only experience with these stories dates back when I was a kid and stumbled upon an animation of how two fat rats are cooking a kitten。 Engraved in my memory, this terrifying scene (which lasted an eternity) haunted me for years。 As a kid I didn't know that children's stories ought to have good endings。 Even now, while I was listening to the story, I dissociated so hard, I still have no idea how Tom kitten A classic children's book although I'm unsure if I'll recommend reading it to children。 My only experience with these stories dates back when I was a kid and stumbled upon an animation of how two fat rats are cooking a kitten。 Engraved in my memory, this terrifying scene (which lasted an eternity) haunted me for years。 As a kid I didn't know that children's stories ought to have good endings。 Even now, while I was listening to the story, I dissociated so hard, I still have no idea how Tom kitten was saved from becoming the rats dinner。Some stories are sweet, but bare in mind Beatrix Potter doesn't shy away from the violence of nature。 The original illustrations may soften the reality a bit, but in other cases they just enhance the contrast between them and the stories。 。。。more

This collection of stories is cute, charming and quite enjoyable。 That being said if you think about the world of Peter Rabbit too much you might think it is really quite dark。

This was a whole nostalgia trip, I remember reading some stories of Beatrix Potter when I would visit the Whalley library with my mom and sister, when it would be our special little trip every week or so。 I never quite got to check out the books for one reason or another, I think maybe I would finish one story while at the library and proceed to take out another book to read at home。 Eventually when I did want to check out her books, they were always on hold for someone else lol。But now!! When I saw on my Libby app that the book was available I don’t remember ever being so fast to press the “borrow” button haha。 I got to actually sit and savour the stories, and I remember feeling such fondness for the silly creatures and the lovely illustrations。But now I realized this would’ve been a perfect book to introduce to my son but sadly, it’s sadly on hold again 🙃Oh well, it’ll be a great book to hunt down along the road。 。。。more

My granddaughter and I are still working our way through this collection。 It's very long but absolutely charming。 The amazing illustrations make the words come alive。。。they seem to be the same as those little books of single stories that I had as a kid。 I highly recommend reading this was a young one because it's full of innocence, humor, a little mischief and warmth/love。 My granddaughter and I are still working our way through this collection。 It's very long but absolutely charming。 The amazing illustrations make the words come alive。。。they seem to be the same as those little books of single stories that I had as a kid。 I highly recommend reading this was a young one because it's full of innocence, humor, a little mischief and warmth/love。 。。。more

The most beautiful illustrations。 The Tailor of Gloucester is my favorite。

tI read this in audiobook format。 I thought the tales were pretty good and that it is something that I will read to my future children。 I think these tales might even be good for children to try to read out loud themselves to practice their reading and pronunciation。

The garden & the radishes & Mr。 McGregor! It was all so familiar。 I’d found my tale…I ordered The Tale of Peter Rabbit from the library, and a few days later, the whole story came back to me。 It’s so fun to read a story that used to be a favorite and has remained titleless in my mind。 It’s like an archaeological dig。 I remembered it clearly。 Everything I’d kept in my brain from childhood found itself written unchanged in The Tale of Peter Rabbit。 I must have been at least moderately reading by the time my mother read it to me, because the name McGregor looks familiar as part of whatever memory I’d retained of reading the work。 I can see “McGregor” in black & white type as clearly as I can see that elusive image of a naughty little rabbit I couldn’t shake。 My mother still has no memory of reading Peter Rabbit to me, and my brother says the only rabbit story he remembers Mom reading is The Velveteen Rabbit, but I have a strong memory of wanting to have this tale in particular read, & of my brother being there for it too。Anyway, I reread The Tale of Peter Rabbit this week & so loved it I decided to read Beatrix Potter’s complete tales。 All were adorable。 Poor Pig Robinson stuck on the boat as dinner! The little squirrel who teases the drowsy owl! These little stories are so simple & so lovely and magical。 That Beatrix Potter could look around her world and see this play of color, and this life in nature。 Well, her passion for the outdoors shows in her work。 Animal mischief is translated in human terms for children。 It’s adorable the way she takes the scurrying around of a kitten or a mouse, and turns it into a plausible story。 The ladies in some of these works remind me of Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford。 In an era when stories for children were very much hung with morals, Beatrix Potter’s are simply natural tales of little creatures caught in mischief or misfortune, and restored to happiness。 There’s joy all over these little stories, & not just a little bit of laughter。 Meanwhile, I love rediscovering favorites from childhood。 If only I could remember who read it to me。 ❤️ 。。。more

I listened to the new audiobook from Audible, and it's fun, not only because Beatrix Potter is amazing and it's fun to notice when the characters recur, but also because of all the amazing celebrity readers who are part of this recording! My attention wandered a bit in some of the longer stories (some of them missed something without the pictures!) but so many clever narrations and cute sound effects made up for it- it's a great set for children and I enjoyed it too!

The pictures were beautiful! The stories were mostly cute but some of them were pretty disturbing! In Mr。 Tod story, a badger tries to eat the baby bunnies! Also, in Samuel Whiskers, a rat tries to bake the kitten into a dumpling! My favorite, of course, is the most famous- Peter Rabbit。
