Summary

The first three books in Serena Valentino’s New York Times best-selling Villains series, together in one paperback box set for the first time! With all-new art, this box set is the perfect entry point for newcomers to the series, and is a covetable collectible for existing fans。

Fairest of All

The tale of the young princess Snow White and her evil stepmother the Wicked Queen is widely known。 Despite a few variations from telling to telling, the story remains the same—the Queen was jealous of the girl’s beauty, and this jealousy culminated in the Queen’s attempt on the sweet, naive girl’s life。 Another tale far less often spoken of is the one that explains what caused the Queen to become so contemptuously vile。 Still, some have attempted to guess at the reason。 Perhaps the Queen’s true nature was that of a wicked hag and her beautiful, regal appearance a disguise used to fool the King。 Others claim that the Queen might have hated the girl for her resemblance to the King’s first wife。 Mostly, the Queen is painted as a morally abhorrent woman who never loved another being during the course of her miserable life。 In fact, the theories about exactly what caused the Queen’s obsessive vanity and jealous rage are too numerous to catalog。 This book recounts a version of the story that has remained untold until now。 It is a tragic tale of love and loss, and it contains a bit of magic。 It is a tale of the Wicked Queen。 。 。

The Beast Within

The tale is as old as time: a cruel prince is transformed into a beast。 A lovely maiden comes into this monster’s life。 He is transformed by her compassion, and the love he feels for her in return。 The two live happily ever after。 But any tale, especially one as storied as Beauty and the Beast’s, has been told many different times, and in many different ways。 No matter which version one hears, the nagging question remains: what was it that transformed the prince into the beast we are introduced to? This is one version, pulled from the many passed down through the ages。 It’s a story of vanity and arrogance, of love and hatred, of beastliness, and, of course, of beauty。

Poor Unfortunate Souls

The tale of the sea king’s daughter Ariel is a beloved one of losing—and then finding—one’s own voice。 The story has been told many times and in many ways。 But always the mergirl wants more than her world can offer, and her father demands that she live within the confines of his domain。 Her rebelliousness costs the little mermaid her voice and nearly her soul。 But the power of good prevails, and Ariel emerges proud and changed。 And yet this is only half the story。 So what of Ariel’s nemesis, Ursula, the sea witch? What led to her becoming so twisted, scorned, and filled with hatred? Many tales have tried to explain her motives。 Here is one account of what might have shaped the sea witch into a detestable and poor unfortunate soul。

Fairest Of All - 4 starsThe Beast Within - 2。5 starsPoor Unfortunate Soul - 2 starsThe Fairest of All was by far my favorite of this collection。 It was about the witch from Snow White and how she became evil。 The three odd sisters are in each of the stories, but I felt they were more focused on The Beast Within and Poor Unfortunate Soul, which I didn't love。 They are especially the focus in Poor Unfortunate Soul and I feel that the story gets so jumbled and becomes so far off track of the story Fairest Of All - 4 starsThe Beast Within - 2。5 starsPoor Unfortunate Soul - 2 starsThe Fairest of All was by far my favorite of this collection。 It was about the witch from Snow White and how she became evil。 The three odd sisters are in each of the stories, but I felt they were more focused on The Beast Within and Poor Unfortunate Soul, which I didn't love。 They are especially the focus in Poor Unfortunate Soul and I feel that the story gets so jumbled and becomes so far off track of the story of Ursula。 I wish that the last two stories in the collection were more like the first in which it is the story of why and how the witch became evil and disturbed。 The last two stories gloss over that quickly and it's like a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid in the perspectives of the villains。 I was so excited to listen to the last two collections after listening to the first but was disappointed。 。。。more

Finished this collection on a long drive home today。 I quite enjoyed the twist on familiar stories。 There was enough side story to keep you guessing and putting pieces of the story together as it went along。 Listened to on audible。

Told from the villains POV I was hoping for a little more from this。 But it was okay。 A good one to read along with children who are familiar with the hero’s from these tales。

I liked the book but I couldn't get fully into the book。Each Story you knew the ending, the how they got there was just a series of events that led to the inevitable conclusion。 You knew that there was no way the character could make any other choice, so there was no sense of wonder in the story。I thought the one about Snow White was way too drawn out。 The one about Ursula was the most original。If you like Disney then this might be a good read for you but don't get your hopes up I liked the book but I couldn't get fully into the book。Each Story you knew the ending, the how they got there was just a series of events that led to the inevitable conclusion。 You knew that there was no way the character could make any other choice, so there was no sense of wonder in the story。I thought the one about Snow White was way too drawn out。 The one about Ursula was the most original。If you like Disney then this might be a good read for you but don't get your hopes up 。。。more

I used to never get why people liked or even loved villains they were bad and always hurt the heroine。 I found no reason to like them。 Though when you read these books you really do see the TRUE intentions of the villain。 Their hearts, dreams, desires。 You come to LOVE them as you would the heroine。 I LOVE THE EVIL QUEEN now!! "This collection includes all three books in Serena Valentino's Villains trilogy。 Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked QueenWhy exactly is the wicked Queen so nasty, particularly to Snow White? 3 incredible stories, that can be told and re-told :) it felt like listening about what was going on in the shadows of the main stories。 I think the world that contains these characters are so much bigger and there's a lot of stories to be told, so keep them coming :) 3 incredible stories, that can be told and re-told :) it felt like listening about what was going on in the shadows of the main stories。 I think the world that contains these characters are so much bigger and there's a lot of stories to be told, so keep them coming :) 。。。more

These books were so good。I did not expect the story lines I read or the relationships between the characters。As I read them the shocking turn kept me coming back to read more of the book/books。I was not disappointed at all。

Jen Kayna (Habitat for Happiness)

I love a good villain backstory, and appreciated that this one is actually Disney produced so that I can allow my mind to "believe" this as part of the story canon。 These three stories definitely should be read in order (snow white/beauty and the beast/little mermaid) because they are all intertwined with one another。 I loved how the three sisters have played a roll in all three stories and seem to be the master puppeteers of many of the Disney stories we have come to love。 Poor Unfortunate Soul I love a good villain backstory, and appreciated that this one is actually Disney produced so that I can allow my mind to "believe" this as part of the story canon。 These three stories definitely should be read in order (snow white/beauty and the beast/little mermaid) because they are all intertwined with one another。 I loved how the three sisters have played a roll in all three stories and seem to be the master puppeteers of many of the Disney stories we have come to love。 Poor Unfortunate Soul was my least favourite but overall still a great trilogy。 。。。more

Good concept, amazing cover designs。 Execution was somewhat lacking。

Sharon Craft Viall

Three stories in one book。 Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid。 The book fills in the space as to why things are happening。 Why some of the witches are mean and why they want to get back at some people。 We already know the stories, but the added part are great。

Cherise

A retelling of the Disney classics from the villains perspective。 The Beast Within was my favorite。

Heydi Smith

So I’ve read each of these books separately and now collectively。 While I enjoyed them as separate pieces, the masterful cohesion of all these stories coming together into one epic world is beyond words! So thrilled for each new addition to this Wonderland。

Sonya

I loved all of the stories, but Poor Unfortunate Souls was my favorite。 I didn't want to stop listening after I got to it。 The narrator did a great job。 I loved all of the stories, but Poor Unfortunate Souls was my favorite。 I didn't want to stop listening after I got to it。 The narrator did a great job。 。。。more
