DNF。 I wish I liked this, but it was just a little too repetitive for me。 I liked that the voices were from an inclusive bunch, but regardless of where they came from or who they were, they had the same message and it just became a little too repetitive after a while。

4。5 stars。 Here We Are is a collection of 44 voices on feminism。 It is both important and so much fun to read! I like how this book broadens the definition of feminism and emphasizes on inclusivity - it made me realize feminism really is an umbrella term for "equality for ALL"。 I'm so happy to read a feminism book that goes way beyond cis-hetero white women feminism and actively educates readers on intersectionality。 The featured authors come from different races, classes, religions, sexual orie 4。5 stars。 Here We Are is a collection of 44 voices on feminism。 It is both important and so much fun to read! DNF @ 25% — This is a perfectly adequate anthology for the younger spectrum of YA who are interested understanding feminism, and I applaud that! As a 21-year-old who, shocker, -studies feminism- in college, it’s a little lacking in the nuances that I was expecting。 But that’s on me! I’m just not the right audience! But it’s totally worth the read if you’re looking for a basic understanding of feminism and activism。

From Follett: A collection of essays and illustrations from 44 writers reflecting on what feminism means to them, from body positivityto intersectionality。

Meh。 It’s def a place to start but it’s mostly people’s stories and poems which wasn’t exactly what I was looking for。 The only one I really liked was called “The ‘Nice Girl’ feminist” and it did give advice and it resonated with me bc I find myself being too nice and not speaking up bc of the fear of coming off as rude

Amazing and highly recommended。 So even though this book's audience are teenagers, I loved it at 23。 Every part and every voice felt so important and interesting, and it touches so many topics。 Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to expand their views about feminism or are just dipping their toes into feminism。 Some of my favorite parts and quotes:* Shveta Thakrar's part。 All of it。* "But you don't anyone an explanation of the hows and whys of your body, and you shouldn't be more ashamed Amazing and highly recommended。 So even though this book's audience are teenagers, I loved it at 23。 Every part and every voice felt so important and interesting, and it touches so many topics。 Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to expand their views about feminism or are just dipping their toes into feminism。 Some of my favorite parts and quotes:* Shveta Thakrar's part。 All of it。* "But you don't anyone an explanation of the hows and whys of your body, and you shouldn't be more ashamed of your body than you should be ashamed of having brown hair or needing glasses。 Those aren't good or bad judgements about you, either-they just are。 You have a right to exist as you are。 You have value and worth just as you are。" (The big blue oceans and my big fat body - by Angie Manfredi)* "But here's the thing。 The static, glossy images on the covers of those magazines? Interesting, but geared towards younger women, so it was thought-provoking, but not as relatable to me。 Still, I love that it can speak with inclusivity and encouragement to a younger generation。

I felt this anthology more than the others was targeted towards teens, but I think it could be a great starting point for people who want to learn more about what feminism is。 I would have liked a little more diversity in the pieces included in terms of both sexuality and disability, but it works as a primer。 As Nova Red Suma writes about in her essay, we have a say in what books we choose to consume, and while sometimes they’re harder to find, we can support marginalized authors by reading thei I felt this anthology more than the others was targeted towards teens, but I think it could be a great starting point for people who want to learn more about what feminism is。 I would have liked a little more diversity in the pieces included in terms of both sexuality and disability, but it works as a primer。 As Nova Red Suma writes about in her essay, we have a say in what books we choose to consume, and while sometimes they’re harder to find, we can support marginalized authors by reading their work and become more educated as a result。 。。。more

This is one of the books I had to read for my feminist class。 At first, I thought this book would be extremely over-simplified (it looked like a book for kids), but it wasn't。 This collection of essays, FAQ's, playlists, etc。。。 is really perfect for anyone teenage yrs and up。 No one is a perfect feminist and everyone has room to grow, but before I read this I didn't think I would necessarily think differently by the end of it。This book is so fantastic because it doesn't focus on white, cis femin This is one of the books I had to read for my feminist class。 At first, I thought this book would be extremely over-simplified (it looked like a book for kids), but it wasn't。 This collection of essays, FAQ's, playlists, etc。。。 is really perfect for anyone teenage yrs and up。 No one is a perfect feminist and everyone has room to grow, but before I read this I didn't think I would necessarily think differently by the end of it。This book is so fantastic because it doesn't focus on white, cis feminism。 It explains intersectionality, and it gives a voice to a diverse group of people。 From transmen and transwomen to BIPOC (men and women alike), this showcases SO many different opinions, experiences, and struggles。 Every chapter showed me something I hadn't considered or something that was so relatable I wanted to scream that someone finally got it。 READ THIS!!!!! It's such a great book for discussions。 。。。more

Whenever one of my internet friends does a Q&A, I like to pose a question for my own curiosity: "What advice would you give your 8th grade self?" I firmly believe that this version of ourselves is one of the most vulnerable versions, and it seems like the benefit of hindsight helps us be kind to our fledgling selves。 (For the record, part of my advice to myself is to grow out that ridiculous bowl haircut already!) This anthology of essays, interviews, and comics about feminism, is completely in this vein of encouraging advice for teens。 The list of contributors is diverse and brings so much to the table。 I loved that this book included everything from an essay about culture appropriation to a list/recipe of how to cultivate your superheroine persona to Laurie Halse Anderson threatening to punch people in the throat。 At times, it was a tad rah-rah for me, but then, it's not really FOR me, so it's fine。 You can see that I took down a whole bunch of lines, and a lot really resonated with me。 In the nature of anthologies, it also exposed me to a whole bunch of writers and artists that I would not have known previously。 I'd highly recommend it to any teen, sure, but any reader of YA age or older would benefit from the information and perspectives in this collection。 I don't remember what prompted me to borrow this book from my library's ebook catalog, but I'm sure glad I did。---When you deny a person's lived experience, you are denying that person's right and ability to own his or her or hir narrative。 You are denying that person's humanity, and that is not what feminism should be。 (Rafe Posey, "All the Bodies")By recognizing someone else's life and amplifying their voice, you are celebrating their humanity。 And when you do that, you make it harder for the status quo to flourish。 (Rafe Posey, "All the Bodies")Feminism is about advocating for equality for all women, not just people you're comfortable with。 It's about standing for people who are other than you, and amplifying their voices, instead of standing against them or speaking for them。 (Rafe Posey, "All the Bodies")When we speak of feminism to women, it's like preaching to the choir。 Women know that they are people。 (Mia and Michaela dePrince, "Feminism Is as Feminism Does")Feminism isn't a glass slipper that fits only one perfect woman; it is an umbrella that has to become big enough to protect us all, even from one another。 (Mikki Kendall, "Facets of Feminism")Equality for all has never meant that everyone would agree on the best way to do anything。 (Mikki Kendall, "Facets of Feminism")Appropriation occurs when the appropriator is not aware of the deep significance of the culture they are partaking in。 (Amandla Stenberg, "Don't Cash Crop on My Cornrows")Books about difficult and upsetting subject matter often facilitate and raise awareness。 (Courtney Summers, "A Conversation about Girls' Stories and Girls' Voices with Laurie Halse Anderson and Courtney Summers")If you fail, fail big! The collection is representative of many men and women discussing the concept of feminism which was dynamic, entertaining, and thoughtful。 As with many collections, this one included my favorite kind of diversity-- some illustrations/graphics, a great color scheme and visually-stimulating fonts, a cool cast of writers, lists (famous female friendships, best feminist songs, etc。), and heartfelt stories。 I came to read the contributions of a few authors and ended up staying for the whole thing。
