Summary

When Yuji accidentally overhears his classmate Yamato confessing to another friend that he's gay, his perspective shifts。 Seeing Yamato in a new light, Yuji does his best not to let prejudice color his view, but he still finds himself overthinking his classmates' interactions now。 He especially notices the way Yamato looks at one particular boy: Yuji's own best friend。 Even though he tells himself he shouldn't get involved, Yuji finds he just can't help it; watching Yamato's one-sided love draws him in a way he never expected。 At first, it's empathy, knowing that the boy Yamato has his sights on is definitely straight and has no idea。 But as his own friendship with Yamato develops and the two of them grow closer through a mutual study group, Yuji comes to truly care about Yamato as a person, regardless of his sexuality。 He only wants Yamato to be happy, and to be able to express his true self。

I gave this 4 stars because the beginning of this story (because there is clearly more volumes coming out) resonated with me after I read it。 The story is deceptively simple, one high school boy realizes a fellow classmate is gay and learns to be his friend。 What makes this story interesting is that mental process both characters go through。 We see how Yuiji meets and learns to accept his new gay friend while maintaining his secret。 At first, I was concerned that was he would be a homophonic ass I gave this 4 stars because the beginning of this story (because there is clearly more volumes coming out) resonated with me after I read it。 The story is deceptively simple, one high school boy realizes a fellow classmate is gay and learns to be his friend。 What makes this story interesting is that mental process both characters go through。 We see how Yuiji meets and learns to accept his new gay friend while maintaining his secret。 At first, I was concerned that was he would be a homophonic asshole but it turns out to be caring and sensitive to Yamato's struggles as a gay man。 Yamato's problems are nuanced, interesting, and quite relatable。 He feels like a real person that you want to protect and tell that everything is going to be all right。 However, if you're looking for a romance, nothing happens in this book which I like。 I'm not sure how the two leads will fall in love (if they really do) and I'm interested to know how and when。 I've really read a slow romance in a yaoi and I think this series could really pull it off。 Can't wait to read the next one。 ^_^ 。。。more

3,5 stars? Something like that。 Let's round it up to four。It's veeeeery slow story which I don't mind but it can feel at times to be going in circles。 But what I appreciated a lot is the conversations the characters have, especially Yuiji and Yamato。 There's no "gay panic" or stuff like "you're the exception to the rule" (at least for now, I honestly have no idea how Yuiji's part in this is gonna go)。 That's not to say there isn't any hardships for the characters, quite the contrary。Yamato is fi 3,5 stars? I could not get into this manga for many reasons。 One, all the characters look alike, for the life of me, I didn;y know who was who。 second, the main chacter was homophobic and I just can't get with that。 Third, the story is sooo slow。 I can't wait for the characters and storyline to develop。 I'm moving on。 Reading the comments I see I am not the only one having trouble getting through this manga。 It may be a good book, it is just has too many hangups for me。 I could not get into this manga for many reasons。 One, all the characters look alike, for the life of me, I didn;y know who was who。 second, the main chacter was homophobic and I just can't get with that。 Third, the story is sooo slow。 I can't wait for the characters and storyline to develop。 I'm moving on。 Reading the comments I see I am not the only one having trouble getting through this manga。 It may be a good book, it is just has too many hangups for me。 。。。more

It's a slow burner slice of life。 The story goes about a teenager coming into terms with his sexual orientation and being discovered by the people around him。 The pacing is really nice and gives us enough time to follow the drama and feel for the characters journey。 It's a slow burner slice of life。 The story goes about a teenager coming into terms with his sexual orientation and being discovered by the people around him。 The pacing is really nice and gives us enough time to follow the drama and feel for the characters journey。 。。。more

I liked this and I like how it feels more real? Although I do feel some of the language and wording is a bit awkward and unnatural。 Like some of the conservations seem a bit off, but that could just be the translation。 This series is more about sexuality and learning/growth than it is about romance。 Although, I do really want to see how their friendship and relationship grows。 I'm not sure how I feel about Hasegawa, he's a weird one。 But I really like Yamato and reading his perspective。 I'm not I liked this and I like how it feels more real? The afterword said it's a slow burn。 Indeed it is。 It's so slow that I finished the 2 vols and I havent seen any real "burn" at all。 I guess the story is being weaved slowly little by little towards them becoming a couple。But a big part of me wants them to stay just friends like the good friends they are now。 Because it is such a rare beautiful kind of friendship。 I want to preserve that and never to be tainted。I think the story is beautiful and the story lives through the dialogues and thoughts The afterword said it's a slow burn。 Indeed it is。 It's so slow that I finished the 2 vols and I havent seen any real "burn" at all。 I guess the story is being weaved slowly little by little towards them becoming a couple。But a big part of me wants them to stay just friends like the good friends they are now。 Because it is such a rare beautiful kind of friendship。 I want to preserve that and never to be tainted。I think the story is beautiful and the story lives through the dialogues and thoughts and the wisdom in it。 There's just so much of the world in it and for sure you can find something to relate with in a deep level。 There's also a lot of human aspects presented in it。And if you see yourself in the asshole characters。。。 then may you go to hell and burn in eternity。 Hurting others should never be considered fun。It's hard to be a good human being。 I think what humans need to be is not "normal"。 "Normal" is just a preconceived notion。 What humans need to be is to be good people。 Always think twice。 Anything that can hurt and aggrieve others should never be said and done。If anything, one should read it to learn how to be a nice human being。 See things from perspective of different people and see the world differently。 People young and old go through a lot。 So the least you can be to help the world be better is to be nice and to be kind。 。。。more

This was genuinely lovely。 It reminded me of Our Dreams at Dusk: Shimanami Tasogare, Vol。 1, in that it's a slow, quiet, honest, story about the realities of being "different" in a society where it's not that easy to find acceptance, or like-minded people。There were a few sections that dragged on a little bit too much - a lot of wordy monologuing that I'm not sure was necessary or entirely realistic - but the depth of the emotions is on point, and I loved that it's not following an entirely pred This was genuinely lovely。 It reminded me of Our Dreams at Dusk: Shimanami Tasogare, Vol。 1, in that it's a slow, quiet, honest, story about the realities of being "different" in a society where it's not that easy to find acceptance, or like-minded people。There were a few sections that dragged on a little bit too much - a lot of wordy monologuing that I'm not sure was necessary or entirely realistic - but the depth of the emotions is on point, and I loved that it's not following an entirely predictable path。 I'm not even certain I know what the endgame will be。 I know what I hope for, but as it stands now, I trust the storytelling enough to follow wherever it goes。 It feels like Volume 2 will get a lot grittier, based on how this one ends, and that makes me nervous, since the final volume isn't out yet, and doesn't seem to have an announced publication date。 But I'm excited to see what happens next。 I love the friendship that's developing here, and the complexity of different types of relationships。 I do hope that Yuiji will start to confide in Yamato more as well, since right now, the advice-giving is pretty one-sided。 But that final page was a slam right to the heart, so hopefully there will be significantly more development on that front。 。。。more

I thought this was a really sweet and realistic portrayal of a gay teenagers life in Japan。 You could really understand Yamato's struggle and anxiety surrounding being gay and if/when he should come out and to whom。 You could also see how much it weighed on his mind all the time as there was a lot of introspection from Yamato (and also Yuiji)。 My only gripe is that it was a bit too slow burn / slice of life for me, but I think it's going to pick up in the next volume! I just want to say that the cover is pretty and the art style was the main reason I got interested in this BL manga。HOWEVER。 This might be the most disappointing BL manga I've ever read。I don't mind a slow burn romance but this one isn't just it。 It was just way TOO SLOW。 The characters were bland。 I just couldn't connect to them most of the times and it's just sad as I think it's kind of an entertaining read but the pacing and characters just put it off and made the story draggy。I really liked I just want to say that the cover is pretty and the art style was the main reason I got interested in this BL manga。HOWEVER。 This might be the most disappointing BL manga I've ever read。I don't mind a slow burn romance but this one isn't just it。 It was just way TOO SLOW。 The characters were bland。 I just couldn't connect to them most of the times and it's just sad as I think it's kind of an entertaining read but the pacing and characters just put it off and made the story draggy。I really liked the cute scenes but that just it。 I think I'll be picking up the 2nd volume but not too soon。 。。。more

3。5+ for the building blocks for what I hope becomes a solid 4-5 later。 Bit hard to understand/connect early on, but how much of that is writing vs translation, I don’t know。 Got better, but I do like a slow burn and real friendship portrayals。 Like the art a lot。

I don't know how I feel about this book。 There's no romance in this first volume, which the author states in her note at the end - it's supposed to be a slow burn 3-book series。 That's fine, not a big deal, but it's just so dry and congested in the beginning - too many characters, crowded panels, etc, and it's not what I expected, so it was boring。 I didn't really start liking or connecting to the characters until near the end and now I'm on the fence about continuing with the next book or not。 I don't know how I feel about this book。 There's no romance in this first volume, which the author states in her note at the end - it's supposed to be a slow burn 3-book series。 That's fine, not a big deal, but it's just so dry and congested in the beginning - too many characters, crowded panels, etc, and it's not what I expected, so it was boring。 I didn't really start liking or connecting to the characters until near the end and now I'm on the fence about continuing with the next book or not。 The one kid starts off homophobic, but works through what he's feeling and seeing in a rather mature way and realizes there's nothing to fear - it's just like liking someone and them liking you back or not。 I thought, from a straight person's, POV, it's a reasonable surface exploration of why some people feel the way they do and why others are totally comfortable with people in love regardless of gender。 I'm not sure it's as cut and dry for the other character, though, and I know there are more challenges faced than just being lonely, and there may be something lost in cultural differences, as well, BUT I like this other character better than the others and I like that the kids are all decent kids and good friends。 The art is mostly good, but there are times where the angles make the characters look very one dimensional and it's a bit off-putting。 Overall, if you go in expecting a slow slice of life story about high school boys, sports, and love (with LOTS of internal monologues), then you might be better prepared than those of us expecting a more typical yaoi romance with substance。 I enjoy explorations of love, and the last page does have me wanting to continue, but I'm still on the fence。 It rarely takes me 4 days to read a manga。 I just didn't really want to go back to it。 。。。more

This is the definition of a slow-burn - there's not really any romance yet to speak of, but we can see that Tagura is planting the seeds that will eventually grow into one。 Right now it's actually a lovely story of friendship - Yuiji is just there for Yamato, who is struggling with being in the closet, and listening to his problems is helping Yuiji to realize what's lacking in his own life, to say nothing of the all-important realization that being gay doesn't make you less human。 I'm not always This is the definition of a slow-burn - there's not really any romance yet to speak of, but we can see that Tagura is planting the seeds that will eventually grow into one。 Right now it's actually a lovely story of friendship - Yuiji is just there for Yamato, who is struggling with being in the closet, and listening to his problems is helping Yuiji to realize what's lacking in his own life, to say nothing of the all-important realization that being gay doesn't make you less human。 I'm not always a fan of slow-moving stories, but this one has me hooked, because I genuinely want the two protagonists to be happy, whatever that means。。。。even if I can't always tell the characters apart from the art。3。5 。。。more
