Summary

SILENT INVASION: They arrive in silence and darkness。 They descend from the skies。 They have a hunger for human flesh。 They are everywhere。 They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade-and take control of-a human host to survive。 And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands。 But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces。 So no one knows their secret-except an ordinary high school student。 Shin is battling for control of his own body against an alien parasite, but can he find a way to warn humanity of the horrors to come?

Parasyte is a scifi, horror masterpiece in a manga form。 It is quite different from your run of the mill Japanese manga。It is a fun rollercoaster ride - super fun, philosophical and rather short (8 books total) for a manga series。 Its art is not as good as some of the artistic ones but it is a minor complaint and doesn't diminish the enjoyment。 Parasyte is a scifi, horror masterpiece in a manga form。 It is quite different from your run of the mill Japanese manga。It is a fun rollercoaster ride - super fun, philosophical and rather short (8 books total) for a manga series。 Its art is not as good as some of the artistic ones but it is a minor complaint and doesn't diminish the enjoyment。 。。。more

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Personal Score: B-Critical Score: BI expected this to be an apocalypse series, which set the bar a little high, lol。 There wasn’t anything I particularly disliked here, but there also wasn’t much that I loved, though I appreciated the philosophical edge, which balanced out the splatter and comedy elements that I was less interested in。A touch of male gaze sexism made for a few eye rolls。There were some wonky moments when it felt like a line of dialogue or a panel was missing。 Probably j ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Personal Score: B-Critical Score: BI expected this to be an apocalypse series, which set the bar a little high, lol。 There wasn’t anything I particularly disliked here, but there also wasn’t much that I loved, though I appreciated the philosophical edge, which balanced out the splatter and comedy elements that I was less interested in。A touch of male gaze sexism made for a few eye rolls。There were some wonky moments when it felt like a line of dialogue or a panel was missing。 Probably just the translation, or uneven writing。Those added reader reaction + author response extras were quite cheesy。Not too interested in continuing the series, though it’s such a quick and easy read that I wouldn’t turn down cheap or free copies。 。。。more

Absolutely superb。 Well-paced, interesting story populated with distinct characters and drawn very attractively。 I gave it a go after having watched (and very much enjoyed) the anime adaptation "Parasyte: The Maxim" and I'm very impressed, certainly the manga so far compares favourably。 One notable improvement is that our protagonist Shinichi is presented here as a much more rounded teenager rather than the generic nerd who gets superpowers and overcomes his disability, as he is in the anime。Wil Absolutely superb。 Well-paced, interesting story populated with distinct characters and drawn very attractively。 I gave it a go after having watched (and very much enjoyed) the anime adaptation "Parasyte: The Maxim" and I'm very impressed, certainly the manga so far compares favourably。 One notable improvement is that our protagonist Shinichi is presented here as a much more rounded teenager rather than the generic nerd who gets superpowers and overcomes his disability, as he is in the anime。Will definitely be seeking out the next volumes。 。。。more

This is amazing。 Not only because it is enjoyable and has enjoyable characters-I really loved Migi- but because of the way it makes you think。 We think that other beings are monsters for killing humans when they’re just doing what they have to to survive。 We think of survival at other’s expense as selfishness when really that’s what we all do。 We as humans put our lives above other beings。 The main character does this throughout the entire manga, and I love seeing Migi address that and point out This is amazing。 Not only because it is enjoyable and has enjoyable characters-I really loved Migi- but because of the way it makes you think。 We think that other beings are monsters for killing humans when they’re just doing what they have to to survive。 We think of survival at other’s expense as selfishness when really that’s what we all do。 We as humans put our lives above other beings。 The main character does this throughout the entire manga, and I love seeing Migi address that and point out that they aren’t so different when it comes down to it。 。。。more

I’m really loving this series, as you can see I read this in one day! It has a very interesting premise。 Without giving away anything past the beginning of the book, parasites infest (infect? I guess both) humans, seemingly all on the same day。 But these parasites are not all bad。 Some become friends and you come to actually love some of them。 They will always have primal instinct as parasites, but the ones that “miss” and inhabit other parts of the body, are the ones that I’ve warmed up to。 Thi I’m really loving this series, as you can see I read this in one day! I don’t know but I highly recommend it。 I wouldn’t say it’s appropriate for young kids but certainly older ones。 Give it a shot!Edit: after reading others’ reviews it seems like a lot of people found it really gross and violent, so I guess it really depends on the person。 For people who aren’t readers/watchers of horror I can see that perspective well。 Or even for people who haven’t read other horror manga, especially Junji。 Imo as a horror lover though, it was tame and at times heartwarming haha。 I’ll still say: give it a shot! :) 。。。more

Review of the series entire。 3。5 stars, rounded up because I'm a sucker for any trace of the id。Parasites invade human heads, piloting the body as a shapeshifting, maneating monster。 But one fails, and manages only to capture the right hand of a teenage boy。 This has a great length, long enough for a few episodic arcs, short enough to enforce consequences and progression。 This isn't to say it's artful--there're moments that feel like any trashy seinen manga。 But I appreciate the effect, particul Review of the series entire。 3。5 stars, rounded up because I'm a sucker for any trace of the id。Parasites invade human heads, piloting the body as a shapeshifting, maneating monster。 But one fails, and manages only to capture the right hand of a teenage boy。 This has a great length, long enough for a few episodic arcs, short enough to enforce consequences and progression。 This isn't to say it's artful--there're moments that feel like any trashy seinen manga。 But I appreciate the effect, particularly the escalation which builds on, rather than eclipsing, previous tragedies, and the satisfying exploration of my curiosities regarding the parasites。 There's a human character who's weirdly sensitive (and therefore susceptible) to their presence, which is a great concept; the protagonist's character growth, trauma, and escalating violence is foiled by his physical changes as he becomes increasingly integrated with the parasite; relationships between parasites and humans, parasites and the concepts of humanity, parasites and their hosts, are nuanced and diverse。 It's a surprising degree of gratifying id material within a fast-paced action/horror plot。The overarching theme of "humans are the real planetary parasites" is less effective--it's just not an argument I take well to given the popular discourse surrounding climate change。 The body horror I found more interesting than horrific, but my tolerance for that is high; the art is consistent, legible, but largely unexceptional。 I blazed through this--it's not perfect, but it does well by an interesting concept, and I dig that。 。。。more

I went into this not really knowing about what I should expect but I was not let down。 I’m normally not a huge fan of a sci-fi but in this case it seriously worked, the blend of sci-fi and body horror was really interesting for me to read and kept me engaged the entire way through。
