I was disappointed, I expected a back story but it was just a day in the life type of thing。

Read in about three days over the course of ~1。5 months because sometimes life steals your attention。 I enjoy Kakashi as a character tremendously, and the opportunity to read a story specifically about him was one I didn’t want to pass up。 Ultimately, I’m thankful that I didn’t, as it tied up some loose ends about his character’s development。 That being said, the overall story reads like a filler episode—there’s sufficient hilarity which ensues and plentiful drama to carry the main plot, but you Read in about three days over the course of ~1。5 months because sometimes life steals your attention。 I enjoy Kakashi as a character tremendously, and the opportunity to read a story specifically about him was one I didn’t want to pass up。 Ultimately, I’m thankful that I didn’t, as it tied up some loose ends about his character’s development。 That being said, the overall story reads like a filler episode—there’s sufficient hilarity which ensues and plentiful drama to carry the main plot, but you know from early on that the stakes are never that high。 That’s not to say the story isn’t enjoyable, however, and the outcome of the novel is satisfying enough。 There are also details here which can provide some (very basic) background information for a couple of matters in the Boruto anime。Would I recommend it for someone wanting a deep read into the life of Hatake Kakashi or looking for a solid resource for late-stage Naruto developments? Not particularly。 But if you enjoy the Naruto universe and want some of that extra icing left on the tray after the cake has been eaten, it should definitely do the trick。 3/5 stars。 Enjoyable, generally low-stakes, slight filler energy, sometimes thought-provoking。 。。。more

These novels are a light reading, which is all I can bare at the moment with studies and work。 It’s short and easy, the story per se feels like a common anime filler, but if you can’t get enough of Kakashi I guess it’s ok。

I really liked this! While I like the plot and Kakashi's character development, I want to focus on 3 passages that surprise me with a bonus passage。 Passage 1 Pages 15-16"What is ultimate justice? It is the equality of all people。 All unhappiness in this world arises from inequality。 So then what should we do to realize this equality? We must control the freedom of the individual。 The freedom to earn money, the freedom to possess more than others, the freedom to have it easier than others-I fight to control freedoms like these。 And if our experiments go well, other lands will endorse us and our ideals。 All freedoms in this world will be controlled。 This is the true meaning of Madara's ideal, a new world order。" -GaryoThis gave me chills in not good way。 I have heard some people say this is what the American political left represents in the years 2020 and 2021。 Yet, this was written originally in Japan in 2015。 This made me wonder if this is something happening or did happen in Japanese politics as well。 In all honesty, if someone truly believes in what Garyo says then that is a terrible thing, because it just causes more division and hatred as Naruto explains in a related passage on page 18。 "But I just can't get on board with what you guys are doing。。。You kill people who won't give up their freedom, and that's supposed to make everyone left happy? All that's gonna do is breed new hatred。" Exactly! Yes, there is inequality where people end up, but that doesn't mean the people who have more are inherently evil or immoral and not compassionate。 As Naruto says on page 23 and 24, "Money's just like kunai or ninjutsu: it's good or bad depending on how you use it, maybe。。。You use that money the right way, and you'll probably help out a ton of people。。。I don't really know, but I figure that's maybe the best way to fight back against guys like Garyo。" YES, Naruto! YES!!!Passage 2 Pages 68-69"When two rights clash, the most important thing is to risk your life and put yourself in your opponent's position。。。Anyone who would easily take the lives of innocent bystanders in order to have their own words recognized has no right to talk about justice。" -Kakashi[Thunderous applause] This is something that definitely could have applied in the summer of 2020 during riots in the United States。 Yes, there is injustice, but going against injustice by causing more violence and disruption to people's livelihoods is NOT the way to go。 Passage 3 Page 95"You're wrong。 As long as we're alive, we have to continue fighting。。。It doesn't matter whether you're shinobi or a regular person。 Wielding a kunai or wielding banknotes, it's the same thing。 The very fact of living itself means you're always fighting for your life。" -KakashiWhile this may seem a tad violent, I have to appreciate the sentiment of this quote。 At some level, this is true。 Life is never smooth sailing no matter how we wish it。 What matters is what is our attitude going to be like。 We could be the normal people in the world who says there is nothing we can do or we can be the James T。 Kirk's and Naruto's of the world and say "Give up trying to make me give up。" Bonus Passage Page 166"Just like the Tsuchikage said。 It's our time to start on this path。 It was then that a decisive change came over Kakashi。 Haven't I just been using the loss of the sharingan as an excuse to run away from the position of Hokage? he thought, abruptly。 Becoming Hokage means there are more people I need to protect。 Which means I don't know when or where I'll have to face the same sadness as when I lost Obito。 I was so convinced I wasn't ready to carry the burden of that sadness。 The people of this land, right now, even in this very moment, say nothing and support each other。 They act like it's the most natural thing in the world, the same way they wake up when morning comes。 Naruto, Lady Tsunade, Shikamaru, Ino, Guy, Lee, Tenten, Choji, Sakura, Sai, Hinata, Shizune, Iruka, Shino, Kiba-all of their faces came to life in Kakashi's heart one after another。 And from the bottom of that heart, he was proud of Konohagakure, of these comrades。 If those guys need me to, Kakashi thought, I'll gather up all of their sadness and take it into myself。 Right, like it's the most natural thing。 And I'll struggle together with them and that sadness。 That's what it means to be Hokage。" -KakashiI think every reluctant leader at some point hits the same realization that Kakashi made。 This is also a relatable way of saying what agape love as well as maybe touch of eros, according to the theology of the body, but I am not sure。 I can definitely say that sounds like agape to me。 Verdict: This was great! I was quite surprise with the passages and how relatable they are to current events。 This is also why books should be the first place people look to when predicting the direction of the world, because often times a likely future has already been written by an author。 。。。more

2。5 stars, better than Itachi's/Sasuke's story but still not great。 At this point I'm just hate-reading light novels but I gotta say I did somewhat enjoy the two and a half hours I spend on it。 2。5 stars, better than Itachi's/Sasuke's story but still not great。 At this point I'm just hate-reading light novels but I gotta say I did somewhat enjoy the two and a half hours I spend on it。 。。。more

The starting was a bit slow but afterwards it was just brilliant。 I didnt know i could fall in love more with Kakashi but I did。 Some of the ideology in the book is very broad and i am not convinced by it all that much。 Putting aside philosophical values, I truly enjoyed this book。 Kakashi seriously is one of my fave characters of all time 💜

Uma história bem gostosinha de ler。 Simples, mas bem legal pra ver mais uma missão do Kakashi antes de virar Hogake。 Legal também ver a reflexão do Kakashi a respeito de se tornar Hogake。

I loved being able to witness things from Kakashi's perspective。 Very cool to see that even a shinobi of his standing would have concerns about his ability to meet everyone's expectations。There was enough action to keep me interested without getting repetitive or boring。 The choice of opposing Kekkei Genkai and the surroundings were a great combination to keep the suspense going as well。 I found myself smiling at the end。 A fun read! I'm beginning to think the companion novels for Naruto just really aren't for me - though the conflict of Kakashi becoming Hokage and accepting that within himself alongside coming to terms with his loss of the Sharingan and that he isn't quite as powerful anymore could have been interesting, I can't say I particularly agreed with the format or how the story progressed as I found it to be quite dragging。 That coupled with the lacklustre group of villains meant I quickly lost interest in the stor I'm beginning to think the companion novels for Naruto just really aren't for me - though the conflict of Kakashi becoming Hokage and accepting that within himself alongside coming to terms with his loss of the Sharingan and that he isn't quite as powerful anymore could have been interesting, I can't say I particularly agreed with the format or how the story progressed as I found it to be quite dragging。 That coupled with the lacklustre group of villains meant I quickly lost interest in the story。 。。。more

For fans of Naruto。 This novel is meant to explore Kakashi's hesitancy of becoming the sixth Hokage when he unexpectedly finds himself on a mission to save civilians from a group of terrorist ninjas。I have a hate/love relationship with Naruto。 I love the world that was created, the dynamic characters, and some of the storytelling。 However, where Naruto is weakest is the writing and the sexism (more on this later)。 So many characters are brushed aside so that Kishimoto could focus on Naruto and S For fans of Naruto。 This novel is meant to explore Kakashi's hesitancy of becoming the sixth Hokage when he unexpectedly finds himself on a mission to save civilians from a group of terrorist ninjas。I have a hate/love relationship with Naruto。 I love the world that was created, the dynamic characters, and some of the storytelling。 However, where Naruto is weakest is the writing and the sexism (more on this later)。 So many characters are brushed aside so that Kishimoto could focus on Naruto and Sasuke's rivalry and it just gets so old so fast。 Due to these reasons, my love for Naruto stems from childhood nostalgia and the artists who make fan art and write fanfiction that have really kept my love for the series alive。 I'm glad there are fan written stories and official novelizations that are meant to flesh out the characters, their motivations, and add extra nuance to the series。Upon reading the summary for this book, I was intrigued to learn how losing the Sharingan would impact Kakashi's confidence in his powers, especially when his inauguration as the next Hokage looms over his head。 And some reviewers even hinted at a romance, which peaked my interest even further。 I was expecting a deep, introspective character study with action, adventure, and love but what I got instead was。。。 well, a disappointment。This book felt like a weak OVA or filler episode。 The writing was dry and I don't know if that's because of the writer or the Japanese-to-English translation, but I have a feeling it's a combination of the two。 The setting is certainly interesting with rogue ninja highjacking a newly built zeppelin and taking the passengers hostage。 I liked how the zeppelin created restraints that the characters had to work around, such as the zeppelin flying to dangerous levels as it took on damage, which would have killed everyone on it due to the changing air pressure and altitude。 (view spoiler)[ I thought it was so cool that the leader of the rogue ninja put explosive powder in the parachute vests and made passengers into suicide bombers。 It was so devious to have these hostages think they were finally safe and then use them in their terrorist attacks/attempts to blow up the prison。 (hide spoiler)]However, you don't see Kakashi struggle at all with the loss of his most infamous ability, or have people doubting his capabilities。 And isn't that the entire point of this novelization? To explore those things??? He can't use his signature Lightning Blade attack anymore but he's created a substitute jutsu that's just as effective。 It would have been more satisfying to see him adapting this new attack and watching Kakashi mastering it while he's taking down this coup。 There was one instance when the enemy ninja mocked him for being weak without his Sharingan and Kakashi proved him wrong, but that was it。 This didn't really have any impact。 It would have been more satisfying to show how comrades or even people in his own village questioned his skills prior to the mission。What was worse was the romance。 It was completely cliche。 Kakashi stops this woman, Kahyo, from tripping and he immediately falls in love。 The phrases "the woman who captured Kakashi's heart" and "this woman was Kakashi's whole world in that instant" were used when they had about two bouts of small talk。 It was insane。 And this is where the sexism comes in。 Naruto is a shounen series and a downside of shounen is that there aren't enough women。 And when there are women, they're underwritten and relegated to roles of mother, girlfriend, potential love interest, or tough-ass woman character that doesn't do much。 In a filler episode, there was a woman named Hanare who had a similar romantic-ish relationship with Kakashi that didn't go anywhere and I HATED how her story was handled。 She was an undercover ninja trying to undermine Konoha, cozied up to Kakashi, and when her identity and mission are discovered, she requests that Kakashi kills her because she's switched allegiances and doesn't want to live the life of a ninja anymore。 Kakashi let her go, not wanting to kill someone who gave up so easily, and they parted ways。Kahyo's character is handled the exact same way。 Can we please have a canon love interest for Kakashi who isn't so weak? You're telling me this is the second female ninja who's fallen for Kakashi and, at one point, wanted him to kill her because she can't handle ninja life anymore? Or like。。。 can we give him a love interest where he actually has chemistry with? (No wonder so many fans ship him with Guy or Iruka and even Yamato。 At least those characters have some history and interactions with Kakashi that would hint at a romance。)For some reason the most consistent part of this book was the vomiting (if you can believe it)。 Guy had motion sickness and threw up throughout his battles and Kakashi pretended to vomit to trick some dumb lackeys that he was sick so they would let him go。 Why was vomiting so integral to this story? The only part of this book I enjoyed is when Shikamaru slapped Ino's ass。 (Shikamaru and Temari are okay to me but I always wanted Shikamaru and Ino to be canon)。 I've read so much fanfiction that was better than this。 。。。more
