Summary

Pre-order the heart-wrenchingly honest new book about life and death from forensic pathologist and bestselling author of Unnatural Causes, Dr Richard Shepherd。

'This book is about death, but in it I will take readers on a journey through life 。 。 。'

Dr Richard Shepherd, Britain's top forensic pathologist, has spent a lifetime close to the dead。

As a medical detective, each autopsy he carries out is its own unique investigation, uncovering the secrets not only of how a person died, but also of how, through every stage of life, the risks to each of us ebb and flow。

Through twenty-four of his most intriguing, enlightening and never-before-told cases, Dr Shepherd shares autopsies that span the seven ages of human existence, and have taught him as much about the marvels of life as the inevitability of death。 From old to young, from murder to misadventure, and from illness to accidental death, each of these bodies has something to reveal: about human development, about mortality, about its owner's life story, about justice and even about Shepherd himself。

From the bestselling author of Unnatural Causes comes a powerful, moving and above all reassuring book about death as it touches our own lives - how to understand it, how best to postpone it, and, when our time comes (as it must), how to embrace it as the last great adventure。

This man can writeThis is not a desiccated account of corpses and body parts。 He writes really well about his extensive career, and weaves in an account of his friends and some observations about the human condition。I found it stimulating and very moving。I read it in a week on holiday。

A very interesting journey through life, as told via some of the pathological cases that Dr Richard worked on。 It’s certainly not for the faint hearted and does not shy away from the distressing descriptions of murder in some of the homicide cases he has worked on。 There were moments that felt bogged down in medical jargon and parts that felt a little longer than necessary but overall, despite this the bleak content I felt the book to be quite uplifting and life affirming。

Just like with 'Unnatural causes' I could barely put this book down。 And just like that book I thoroughly enjoyed it。 It's well written, interesting, informative and witty。 This book details the life and career of Dr。 Richard Shepherd but has a different layout than the first book, beginning with cases with children and then goes up through the ages。 It is truly fascinating and I can't recommend this book enough。 Just a really amazing read。 Just like with 'Unnatural causes' I could barely put this book down。 And just like that book I thoroughly enjoyed it。 It's well written, interesting, informative and witty。 This book details the life and career of Dr。 Richard Shepherd but has a different layout than the first book, beginning with cases with children and then goes up through the ages。 It is truly fascinating and I can't recommend this book enough。 Just a really amazing read。 。。。more

I absolutely LOVED ‘unnatural causes’ by Dr Richard Shepherd, and devoured it in one sitting。 It completely fascinated me。 I had heard there would be a second book released this September and the moment it was published, I bought it。It didn’t disappoint。Another incredibly informative, intelligent, fascinating and quite brilliant instalment which deserves no less than another 5 stars。Mind blowing stuff if you have any interest in this subject。
