The claims of plagiarism are rubbish。 Great book。 Highly recommended it。

Very inspirational。 After reading this my fingers are itching to draw, and to get better at it。 The book gives advice on inking technique but also gives exercises and advice on ways to get mindfully better at drawing。 I know there was controversy regarding alleged copying of Alphonso Dunn’s work, but the book is nothing like ‘Pen & Ink drawing’ by Dunn (which I also own, and highly suggest if you want to delve deeper in drawing realisticly in ink)。

A decent book for encouraging the building of drawing skills, especially with ink, and fun for fans and participants of the annual Inktober drawing challenge。 I’ve participated in that challenge for several years, and have found the community around the event positive and inspiring。 I’ve improved my own drawing skills through the practice。 I’m saddened by negativity from those who feel this book seems to bear too much similarity to other drawing guides。 In my many years of reading and drawing, w A decent book for encouraging the building of drawing skills, especially with ink, and fun for fans and participants of the annual Inktober drawing challenge。 I’ve participated in that challenge for several years, and have found the community around the event positive and inspiring。 I’ve improved my own drawing skills through the practice。 I’m saddened by negativity from those who feel this book seems to bear too much similarity to other drawing guides。 In my many years of reading and drawing, while using such guides, I find there isn’t much originality, for the mossy part。 Basic art skills are similar。 There are only so many ways to describe sketching, drawing, shading, and texturing shapes。 So, in my opinion, I’ll choose a guide I like, whose author is an artist whose style I enjoy and want to emulate。 。。。more

I will not support plagiarism。 Watch the whole comparison on YouTube。 The techniques are universal - true。 But the explanations are not。 And they are Mr。 Dunn's original work。 If this book is published with the tutorial section removed or reworked, I will change my rating and review。 I will not support plagiarism。 Watch the whole comparison on YouTube。 The techniques are universal - true。 But the explanations are not。 And they are Mr。 Dunn's original work。 If this book is published with the tutorial section removed or reworked, I will change my rating and review。 。。。more

Unlike all the other reviews here, I (due to an Amazon error) actually have the book。 instagram。com/p/CIXFQt_hmf4/ After comparing both this one and Alphonso Dunn's, I think that the flood of negative reviews claiming wholesale plagiarism are unwarranted。 In general, Dunn's book is technical and focused on realism, while Parker's target is lay artists, cartooning, and Inktober。 Jake Parker deals much more with external contours and blacks, while Alphonso Dunn focuses more heavily on texturing an Unlike all the other reviews here, I (due to an Amazon error) actually have the book。 instagram。com/p/CIXFQt_hmf4/ After comparing both this one and Alphonso Dunn's, I think that the flood of negative reviews claiming wholesale plagiarism are unwarranted。 In general, Dunn's book is technical and focused on realism, while Parker's target is lay artists, cartooning, and Inktober。 Jake Parker deals much more with external contours and blacks, while Alphonso Dunn focuses more heavily on texturing and realistic shading。 There are a few similar pages, especially in constrained topics like lists of tools and and creating values。 However, the gulf in tone and content between the two books is so large that I doubt I would have ever noticed them。 Seeing the evangelistic glee with which many social media users were pointing those similarities out, I suppose the vast dissimilarities between these two books will hardly satisfy them。 In addition, much of this information has been previously covered in Jake Parker's online video tutorials。 The actual review。 First impression is that the book is very pretty。 The cover has a very slight embossing and the design gives off a mystical tome vibe。 The pages are substantial and the book feels very solid。 The page edges are "gilded" in black, and they look striking when fanned。 If you like Jake Parker's art style, you'll love this book, because it has drawings from cover to cover。 The page layouts are tight but still have lots of whitespace and look very clean。 The occasional solid black title page helps break up the white pages of each section。Pages 8-9 have the introduction, 12-23 describe the origin and philosophy of Inktober。 26-33 is the philosophy of drawing。 36-45 is the history of inking and famous inkers, including Miyamoto Musashi, Beatrix Potter, and Jack Kirby。 48-55 is inking tools。 58-96 is basic inking skills, and where most of the criticisms were levied。 98-109 is graphic design guidelines, plus tips like "The Creative Banking Account" and "The Five P's of Drawing。" 112-123 is drawing challenges and tips on how to make your own prompt lists。 126-144 is the 31 day challenge, and pages 144-157 have misc。 motivational and productivity tips。 Page 158 is the bibliography, page 159 is a letter of thanks to all those who have participated in Inktober。 In general, it's a charming book, filled with whimsical art and encouraging messages。 As I said earlier, if you're familiar with Parker's online tutorials, the content of this book is also going to seem familiar, but the packaging and new art is worth it。 I'm not sure if this book deserves the full 5 stars because it's fairly basic on the technical side, but then that doesn't really seem to be its thrust。 Coupled with all the bogus 1 star reviews, I'm giving it the 5。 。。。more

Love this cancel culture thats full of gullible idiots。 Jumping on the bandwagon just because it's the first thing you see。 If you had any art knowledge you would know that nothing in Dunn's book is original because it's the basics of art。 Which has been taught for hundreds of years。 Everything in Dunn's book has been published before。 How about the fact that Parker had been teaching inking years before Dunn's book was even published? its sad that people are trying to cancel a book thats not even out yet。 I was excited for this book as I was going to add it to my collection with dunns book。 I honestly think dunns book is amazing for people who want to try inking。 You can even find it at the local library。 Personally I don't know if it's been plagiarized as I want to hear both sides of the story and haven't even read the inktober book yet。 I felt that there wasn't enough evidence of plagiarism, but as I said I havent read the its sad that people are trying to cancel a book thats not even out yet。 I was excited for this book as I was going to add it to my collection with dunns book。 I honestly think dunns book is amazing for people who want to try inking。 You can even find it at the local library。 Personally I don't know if it's been plagiarized as I want to hear both sides of the story and haven't even read the inktober book yet。 I felt that there wasn't enough evidence of plagiarism, but as I said I havent read the book yet。 but I do commend them delaying the book to fix these possible issues。 At the end of the day I just want to make art and learn as many techniques as I can。 。。。more

I used to do Inktober for a long time and I'm really sad to find out about the accusation of plagia around this book。 How can someone who inspired so many of us to be creative fell for such a cheap tactic to sell a book? I'm very disappointing and wish good luck to Alphonso Dunn who discovered so many of his work simply stolen and badly covered as an original work。 I used to do Inktober for a long time and I'm really sad to find out about the accusation of plagia around this book。 How can someone who inspired so many of us to be creative fell for such a cheap tactic to sell a book? Honestly, I came because of a Youtube video in which it's very clear that this book just cynically copied Alphonso Dunn's "Pen and Ink drawing"。 I haven't read the book so I can't 100% sure say it's a copy but if you watch the video I think you can decide from yourself whether to buy it or not: https://youtu。be/bG3ENcAdWBM ☹️💔 Honestly, I came because of a Youtube video in which it's very clear that this book just cynically copied Alphonso Dunn's "Pen and Ink drawing"。 I haven't read the book so I can't 100% sure say it's a copy but if you watch the video I think you can decide from yourself whether to buy it or not: https://youtu。be/bG3ENcAdWBM ☹️💔 。。。more

This book relies heavily on plagiarism from Alphonso Dunn's 2015 book "Pen and Ink Drawing: A Simple Guide" which really is a lovely book。 To learn more there is a youtube expose of the plagiarized content on youtube presented by a very dishearted Dunn who provides detailed screen shots and background information about the extensive material that had been poached。 It's simply called "Jake Parker Plagiarized my book。" Alphonso Dunn is an amazing artist and art instructor。 This book relies heavily on plagiarism from Alphonso Dunn's 2015 book "Pen and Ink Drawing: A Simple Guide" which really is a lovely book。 To learn more there is a youtube expose of the plagiarized content on youtube presented by a very dishearted Dunn who provides detailed screen shots and background information about the extensive material that had been poached。 It's simply called "Jake Parker Plagiarized my book。" Alphonso Dunn is an amazing artist and art instructor。 。。。more
