The claims of plagiarism are rubbish。 Great book。 Highly recommended it。

Very inspirational。 After reading this my fingers are itching to draw， and to get better at it。 The book gives advice on inking technique but also gives exercises and advice on ways to get mindfully better at drawing。 I know there was controversy regarding alleged copying of Alphonso Dunn’s work， but the book is nothing like ‘Pen & Ink drawing’ by Dunn （which I also own， and highly suggest if you want to delve deeper in drawing realisticly in ink）。

Unlike all the other reviews here， I （due to an Amazon error） actually have the book。 instagram。com/p/CIXFQt_hmf4/ After comparing both this one and Alphonso Dunn's， I think that the flood of negative reviews claiming wholesale plagiarism are unwarranted。 In general， Dunn's book is technical and focused on realism， while Parker's target is lay artists， cartooning， and Inktober。 Jake Parker deals much more with external contours and blacks， while Alphonso Dunn focuses more heavily on texturing an Unlike all the other reviews here， I （due to an Amazon error） actually have the book。 instagram。com/p/CIXFQt_hmf4/ After comparing both this one and Alphonso Dunn's， I think that the flood of negative reviews claiming wholesale plagiarism are unwarranted。 In general， Dunn's book is technical and focused on realism， while Parker's target is lay artists， cartooning， and Inktober。 Jake Parker deals much more with external contours and blacks， while Alphonso Dunn focuses more heavily on texturing and realistic shading。 There are a few similar pages， especially in constrained topics like lists of tools and and creating values。 However， the gulf in tone and content between the two books is so large that I doubt I would have ever noticed them。 Seeing the evangelistic glee with which many social media users were pointing those similarities out， I suppose the vast dissimilarities between these two books will hardly satisfy them。 In addition， much of this information has been previously covered in Jake Parker's online video tutorials。 The actual review。 First impression is that the book is very pretty。 The cover has a very slight embossing and the design gives off a mystical tome vibe。 The pages are substantial and the book feels very solid。 The page edges are "gilded" in black， and they look striking when fanned。 If you like Jake Parker's art style， you'll love this book， because it has drawings from cover to cover。 The page layouts are tight but still have lots of whitespace and look very clean。 The occasional solid black title page helps break up the white pages of each section。Pages 8-9 have the introduction， 12-23 describe the origin and philosophy of Inktober。 26-33 is the philosophy of drawing。 36-45 is the history of inking and famous inkers， including Miyamoto Musashi， Beatrix Potter， and Jack Kirby。 48-55 is inking tools。 58-96 is basic inking skills， and where most of the criticisms were levied。 98-109 is graphic design guidelines， plus tips like "The Creative Banking Account" and "The Five P's of Drawing。" 112-123 is drawing challenges and tips on how to make your own prompt lists。 126-144 is the 31 day challenge， and pages 144-157 have misc。 motivational and productivity tips。 Page 158 is the bibliography， page 159 is a letter of thanks to all those who have participated in Inktober。 In general， it's a charming book， filled with whimsical art and encouraging messages。 As I said earlier， if you're familiar with Parker's online tutorials， the content of this book is also going to seem familiar， but the packaging and new art is worth it。 I'm not sure if this book deserves the full 5 stars because it's fairly basic on the technical side， but then that doesn't really seem to be its thrust。 Coupled with all the bogus 1 star reviews， I'm giving it the 5。 。。。more
