Summary

Cardinal rule #1 for surviving school: Don't get noticed by the mean kids。

Cardinal rule #2 for surviving school: Seek out groups with similar interests and join them。

On her first day at her new school, Penelope--Peppi--Torres reminds herself of these basics。 But when she trips into a quiet boy in the hall, Jaime Thompson, she's already broken the first rule, and the mean kids start calling her the "nerder girlfriend。" How does she handle this crisis? By shoving poor Jaime and running away!

Falling back on rule two and surrounding herself with new friends in the art club, Peppi still can't help feeling ashamed about the way she treated Jaime。 Things are already awkward enough between the two, but to make matters worse, he's a member of her own club's archrivals--the science club! And when the two clubs go to war, Peppi realizes that sometimes you have to break the rules to survive middle school!

This reminds me of that Arthur episode (it's newer so you might not remember) where Sue Ellen draws a mural for her art class and Prunella is like "oh cool drawing, did you measure the space" and Sue Ellen kinda laughs and says "I'm not a math person" and Prunella says "you can be a math person AND an art person" This reminds me of that Arthur episode (it's newer so you might not remember) where Sue Ellen draws a mural for her art class and Prunella is like "oh cool drawing, did you measure the space" and Sue Ellen kinda laughs and says "I'm not a math person" and Prunella says "you can be a math person AND an art person" 。。。more

The graphic novel book "awkward", by Svetlana Chmakova is about a girl go to a new school and she meet a special boy , although they have a very embarrassment thing happen at the first day , but they passed something to become a good friend。 The graphic novel book "awkward", by Svetlana Chmakova is about a girl go to a new school and she meet a special boy , although they have a very embarrassment thing happen at the first day , but they passed something to become a good friend。 。。。more

A very clear and simple story that could really happen in everyday life at school, but told in a way that was so charming and delightful。 The illustrations were fabulous and the messages it gave were positive and could easily resonant with kids。 Absolutely recommended to kids of all ages。 It would help teach important lessons while dealing with school issues like bullying, making friends, and choosing the right direction to follow but also have a little fun while doing it。 I will certainly have A very clear and simple story that could really happen in everyday life at school, but told in a way that was so charming and delightful。 The illustrations were fabulous and the messages it gave were positive and could easily resonant with kids。 Absolutely recommended to kids of all ages。 It would help teach important lessons while dealing with school issues like bullying, making friends, and choosing the right direction to follow but also have a little fun while doing it。 I will certainly have my younger kids read this and continue the story。 Well done!!! 。。。more

i think that this is an okay graphic novel。 it was a little boring for me personally and i thought it was a little king for the message of it。 i thought this would be good for a middle school or elementary age just wasn’t up to par to my favorite middle school aged graphic novels。

Each character had so much personality, even the teachers, and I loved the diversity/inclusion。 There was a fun rivalry between the art and science clubs, but it was also great to see them come together and for them to realize how art and science aren’t all that different。 Speaking of art, I just love Svetlana Chmakova’s manga-like style and use of color throughout the book。 。。。more

The story of fitting in when it comes to the Middle School years。 It reveals that sometimes where you fit isn't where you always have to be and working with others can be more fun that keeping projects to yourself。 A Graphic Novel that has easily relatable characters, especially when it comes to tween girls。 The idea of fitting in at a new school, yet being true to yourself are evident throughout the novel。 The story of fitting in when it comes to the Middle School years。 It reveals that sometimes where you fit isn't where you always have to be and working with others can be more fun that keeping projects to yourself。 A Graphic Novel that has easily relatable characters, especially when it comes to tween girls。 The idea of fitting in at a new school, yet being true to yourself are evident throughout the novel。 。。。more

Chmakova captures those moments (in drawing and in dialogue) when we wish we could just disappear, specifically in middle school。 It's an apt conversation starter with kids on friendship and identity (particularly groupthink)。 The art is a fun almost-anime, and the sequel is even better。 Chmakova captures those moments (in drawing and in dialogue) when we wish we could just disappear, specifically in middle school。 It's an apt conversation starter with kids on friendship and identity (particularly groupthink)。 The art is a fun almost-anime, and the sequel is even better。 。。。more

High school art vs。 scienceClever high school competition between the art kids and the science kids。 Bonus at the end with the artist/author describing her process。 Just what I wanted。

I really liked how this dealt with bullying, which is typically portrayed in pretty black/white terms, rather than something most kids do to some extent when they feel social pressure。For those for whom this might be either a turn-on or turn-off, it is VERY manga in both tone and style。

Lexi

Five Star Review [Please read full first paragraph and/or full review]I would literally recommend this to ANYONE who loves drama, reformed and neutral color palettes, and artistic sparks。 I especially loved the fact the author noted their drawing process, it especially helped me。 I'm a kid, but I've always loved graphic novels。 They help me seem creative with my writing!I would LOVE a tutorial on HOW you draw the characters though! I'm trying to find a cartoony drawing style a lot like yours, and some pointers would be helpful -- thanks for reading this far if you've made it to this point!I would also like to know if you have a youtube channel or TikTok I can follow for updates on things like this! This is probably just a random review you won't read, but I still needed to ask! Do you recommend any programs for learning to draw graphic novels? If so, I totally value your opinion。 Anyway, I'd also like to mention:I don't see any graphic novels by the point of view of a queer person。 [Aside from Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy: A Modern Retelling of Little Women,] I would recommend writing about that for your next comic/graphic novel。 I'm going to check out svletlania。com right after this, but anyways -- if you really do read this, I loved your WHOLE book, and I think it was ASTONISHING! This is so incredible to be writing and of course, a little mental to think you'd actually take the time to read it。Anyway, if you've already made it this far, I am so happy! It's 11:12 PM on a Saturday, so uh- yEAh 。 。 。 if you're wondering why I'm still awake, and even more so why I'm writing a review on your book, it's explained with one word: "insomnia"。 Congrats, you're at the end of my "InCrEdIbLe" review of your astronomical book。This is cool, I don't exactly understand what this does, I'm not sure the author will read this at all。 This took I dunno -- twenty minutes to write? It's now 11:16 PM, not that literally anyone cares, but honestly I'm excited and my stomach hurts oW so sayonara, hon [this is in a gender~neutral way] :) 。。。more

I’ve been wanting to read this graphic novel for a while because I liked the artwork and finally bought a copy。 It is so good! I wish I would’ve bought it and read it sooner! Peppi learns about doing the right thing and develops critical thinking skills to solve her problems。 I wish Maribella had been the one to fix the problem but I was also glad that Peppi did it anyway。 It’s important that kids know that even if it isn’t a problem they created, it may be a problem that they can fix。 I can’t w I’ve been wanting to read this graphic novel for a while because I liked the artwork and finally bought a copy。 It is so good!
