The title of the book is misleading, it should have been the power of faith in God。。。Let me summarize the book so you don’t have to read it: Have faith and put yourself in God’s hands, that’s it。 Very few takeaways, it was just constant fragments from the bible, stories of Peale’s friends and obvious advices。

Be positive, stay positive and create positive, I like the tone of that :)

Despite the old adage, "Peale is appalling," Peale remains an intriguing persona to me。 This book was undoubtedly a product of its time。 The America represented by those whom Tom Brokaw so-named "Greatest Generation" had never settled down from the initial thrust of World War II and were driving themselves into the ground。 Contemplative spirituality was entirely novel to Peale's readership in his time。 Guideposts, however, has been an indelible part of my time, and I found his recap of the magaz Despite the old adage, "Peale is appalling," Peale remains an intriguing persona to me。 This book was undoubtedly a product of its time。 The America represented by those whom Tom Brokaw so-named "Greatest Generation" had never settled down from the initial thrust of World War II and were driving themselves into the ground。 Contemplative spirituality was entirely novel to Peale's readership in his time。 Guideposts, however, has been an indelible part of my time, and I found his recap of the magazine's origins a bit redundant。Having read a biography of authoress Louisa May Alcott immediately prior to this, it was a nice segue from an historical grounding in Emerson's transcendentalist school to Peale's relevant application of the school's principles。 (N。B。 The Alcotts were family friends with the Emersons。 Louisa tutored his daughter, Ellen。) Peale also expounds on William James, whom I knew only in name prior to reading Positive Thinking。 Don't be put off by Peale's hackneyed layman-speak, a la "I knew a man who was very successful in his field, but was having the most exquisite personal breakdown。" Give this book another try。 Great things can be gleaned from emotional upheaval, which is at the center of Peale's message, even if it is a little obscured by his outdated layman's terminology。 Don't bother with The Amazing Results of Positive Thinking, though。 What they say about sequels is true。 。。。more

Read with a friend for discussion。 Some ideas are worth implementing into your life some sound bogus (if you think positively your life will change if you want more money just think about more money)。 Some parts sounded too much like Gospel prosperity。

Ok。 Uh。 Hm。。Things I liked/respected:- I honestly like the Bible verses given as it was a good way for me to find new verses/chapters to read (I've been wanting to do that for sometime now)。Things that frustrated me:- According to Norman Vincent Peale's wikipedia page, he is a personal friend of Richard Nixon and Donald Trump attended his church—and you can tell。 From all the luxury resorts he goes to and businessmen he knows。 This makes him quite ignorant of the lower class。- there's no PROOF a Ok。 Uh。 Hm。。Things I liked/respected:- I honestly like the Bible verses given as it was a good way for me to find new verses/chapters to read (I've been wanting to do that for sometime now)。Things that frustrated me:- According to Norman Vincent Peale's wikipedia page, he is a personal friend of Richard Nixon and Donald Trump attended his church—and you can tell。 From all the luxury resorts he goes to and businessmen he knows。 This makes him quite ignorant of the lower class。- there's no PROOF and I'm actually quite shocked he even had a college degree。 90% of the book are simply testimonials, and he could be making up these conversations for all I know。 He adds quotes occasionally, but I can't find them a credible online source that has those quotes anywhere on the internet for some reason? He gives a results to surveys done with no source。 Not to mention, there was an example where they survey a kids at a psychology course (600)。 Peale proceeds to use the findings of that one survey to say the results would be the same for the population of the world? This is a basic science knowledge we learn in high school and college that a non-random survey done in a controlled(?) setting shouldn't be used to justify it for the whole world????? How did this guy not learn basics? (it's on page 8 for anyone who owns the copy and want to check) But yeah。。。- being a businessman is not a bad thing, but you occasionally see his business-side come out throughout the book。 Just be aware of it。- sexist, but it was different times then I guess。 (for example: page 45 - 46)- misuse of a Bible quote (page 31 。。。 John 10:10 "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly"。 I'm pretty sure the word, "life" doesn't directly translate to vitality in this quote but acts as a symbolism that it is through God/Jesus that we are able to be forgiven and have a chance to go to heaven? Not entirely confident, but。。。 also kind of am)- self-help tips that need to be taken with a grain of salt sometimes 。。。 I do believe in the power of prayer, but he also makes a lot of blatant assumptions (someone prays for a random guy in a bus, and the guy looks at him and smiles for a second。 I don't think that's proof, you know?)Other notes:- found myself being so negative at the 。。。 "questionable/religious" parts, but I realized I could at least be positive while reading this 。。 the least I could do。 I'm so quick to assume old people writing about religion is terrible, but they really aren't if you can sift through them。Final Review:If this book was advertised differently, I wouldn't have been as triggered while reading。 This is neither a self-help (or even a "good" religious book in my opinion to be honest)。 。。。more

I read this because I had heard how many other writers and teachers were influenced by this book。 Reading it with an open mind I could see the positive elements, but some of his methods for using of prayer went too far for my comfort。 I actually stopped reading the book and then made myself pick it back up。

Super churchy and Bible quotes but still found myself underlining passages and getting quite a bit from it。 Three stars because the principles are nothing new。

I loved this! I began reading it off and on and only read a little bit at a time before I found it to be sort of repetitive。 But I stuck with it, and I'm very glad I did。 I love all the positive affirmations and simple techniques for improving your outlook, thinking, and experience。 As I got deeper into the book, I began to appreciate the nuances of what Peale was trying to communicate, and it didn't seem repetitive at all。 And even if it had, what's bad about repetition of positive, uplifting t I loved this! Read as part of seminar called “Mothers of Vision。” I tend to be skeptical of books that promote positive thinking or affirmations, but I appreciated the Christian focus and use of Biblical scriptures in conjunction with concepts of positive thinking/visualization。 I appreciated the many practical steps and suggestions for application。 I checked it out of the library, but I want my own copy to underline and to practice the applications suggested。

I wish I would have read this book sooner。 It’s one of those books you have to read at least once a year。 Maybe even twice a year。 It’s that good!

Literally every page refers to God。 Feeling depressed? Pray it away。 Need self-confidence? God's got your back。I feel so deceived。 This isn't the power of positive thinking, it's religious brain washing。And into the trash it goes。 Literally every page refers to God。 Feeling depressed? First of all, I’m not Christian。 I didn’t knew this book was about a lot of “God” topic。 Some ideas were worth reading! But when it comes to wrote a lot of about “God”, it did make me turning the pages without concentrating。 The whole book and the idea wasn’t too bad, made me feel like that if I’m reading Bible for the first time!“Throw your heart over the bar and your body will follow”— favorite quote from this book!

Definitely one of the best books I have ever read。

I did not like this book because it is not a scientific book but religious and I don't have any problem with any religion especially christianity but what about people that aren't religious or atheists? How can they benefit from this book? I feel like it was addressed just to christian people。I am also shocked finding this book having a good rating (4 starts) but I did understand too that it moved something in christian people that's why, it has good reviews, but again how about non religious pe I did not like this book because it is not a scientific book but religious and I don't have any problem with any religion especially christianity but what about people that aren't religious or atheists? What a beautiful book。 This book really changed my mindset, my life and my perspective。 I read this book 2 years ago。 Although I am a Moslem, I accepted every sentence of this book, and enter into my soul。 I was practicing it with my own way, with my believe。 This book has healed me。 With every sentence。 I've ever burn out when I was at College。 My soul, mind and body extremely exhausted。 at that time, after finished this book, I sighed and exhaled my breathe, Reliezed, I've healed and excited a What a beautiful book。 This book really changed my mindset, my life and my perspective。 I read this book 2 years ago。 Although I am a Moslem, I accepted every sentence of this book, and enter into my soul。 I was practicing it with my own way, with my believe。 This book has healed me。 With every sentence。 I've ever burn out when I was at College。 My soul, mind and body extremely exhausted。 at that time, after finished this book, I sighed and exhaled my breathe, Reliezed, I've healed and excited again to start my day。Thank You。 。。。more

I found the mental exercises in this book useful, even though I am not a Christian and have to self-amend the phases or prayer in my head。It's a pretty good book with certain similarity with the 'The Power of Secret' (I think this book come later)。 I hope to put the exercises to good use and become a better person。 I found the mental exercises in this book useful, even though I am not a Christian and have to self-amend the phases or prayer in my head。It's a pretty good book with certain similarity with the 'The Power of Secret' (I think this book come later)。 I hope to put the exercises to good use and become a better person。 。。。more

This was an interesting read for me。 I feel like there was some good ideas in here, but I found that I am not a fan of the religious methodology the author uses。 I realize it is his faith, but unpacking the message reduce my enjoyment enough to make reading it a challenge。

A practical book。 It has “positive” aspects。。。definitely part of the positive psychology trend。 The basic take away of the book is a 3 step formula: Prayerize, Picturize, Actualize。 However, the author uses prayer (“power prayer” as he likes to call it) as a formula or method to get what you want, without explaining any aspect of relationship with the Lord。 He talks a lot about vibrations and principles of the universe。 Lots of spirituality, less of relationship。

This is the first book from where I started my reading journey 2018。

I listened to the audio version and enjoyed this book。 The author was definitely ahead of his time with the power of positive thinking。 I loved the scriptures he chose to share and miss the days when people were unapologetic about their Christian faith and reliance on God。 It was just the reminder I needed in the chaos of our world today。

For any new age spirituality / self help book, religion tends to have no place。 Universality seems to be lost the moment the author speaks of Christ & so on。 I have read a lot of books on Christ & they were all great。 I dont like reading a book with a very very misleading title! Hence the 1 Star!

I'll just quote Homer Simpson: "Duh"。 I read this years ago and it's not bad, just obvious。 Every time one feels sorta sad (that's everyone), you must simply remember your favorite things! I'm positively craving donuts this morning。 Same for a hot date tonight。 And there's a 100% chance that one of these things will happen。 Why, I can see a Dunkin' Donuts from my kitchen window!
