Summary

Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King。
2) Marry him。
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself。

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power。 Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding。 Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies。 Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it。

But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king。 As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart。 After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

3。5 starsFast-paced and fun。 Ridiculous, but really fun。 I feel like this would be a great read for those in a reading slump。 While it is tropey and a bit predictable, it definitely held my interest from the very start and I had such a fun time reading it。

I think I may have been unfair writing this review for I wasn't able to finish this book。 I tried though。 I reached up to 10 of its chapters, but still I haven't felt that connection—that spark of oneness with the characters, the plot, and just generally the book itself。 Yeah, that spark doesn't only exist with a person。 I feel that way with a book。 And reading the first ten chapters of such is my deciding factor as to should I delve in further or leave it that way。 Obviously, it was the latter I think I may have been unfair writing this review for I wasn't able to finish this book。 I tried though。 I reached up to 10 of its chapters, but still I haven't felt that connection—that spark of oneness with the characters, the plot, and just generally the book itself。 Yeah, that spark doesn't only exist with a person。 I feel that way with a book。 And reading the first ten chapters of such is my deciding factor as to should I delve in further or leave it that way。 Obviously, it was the latter for this one。 I can't seem to connect with the characters and her urge to rule the kingdom and run it as a woman of her own is nice, but I just think that it's all too foolish。 What about justice? What about that sense of ruling not only for fame but for its people? Yeah, I just think that she's too immature。 Which is why, I wasn't able to get on with it and finish the book。Then again, I only read probably 10-20 of its chapters。And yet, I'm writing this haha。 I couldn't resist it。 I just feel like I had to conclude with this book by writing a review。 So, there's that。 。。。more

My biggest thing is Alessandra is a sociopath and narcissist。。。 those things don’t typically just fix themselves when the person falls in love。 I started the book realizing that I could never like her because of how selfish she was。 In the end I could almost like her but I feel like that transformation was unbelievable。

ok this is actually one of my new favorite books!!!!!!!!!!!! it was SO GOOD!!! stellar in terms of sex positivity/female empowerment but i did find some of the tropes (like the whole slytherin thing) not as great but overall a very very nice read! plot itself was very intricate and well explained especially w/ the plot twist at the end! finished this book in one sitting lol

I think not having that information made Alessandra feel a little one-dimensional to me, unfortunately。 。。。more

This book was captivating start to finish。 The banter?? I LOVED IT! And it was such a refreshing story where the heroes had a very different set of morals than my own。 They weren’t good but it was such an interesting and fun POV to be in for a change。 The only “problem” i had with the book was that with every problem there seemed to be a simple answer and then the problem was solved。 Not that it was a particularly bad thing, but it left me sometimes wondering what the point of adding it was if t This book was captivating start to finish。 The banter?? [Minor spoilers regarding romantic plot]Oh man。。。 to say I was disappointed by this would be an understatement。After all the hype I was expecting a dark spicy romance with a nice plot。 What I got was as flavorful as noodles cooked for too long without any salt。There was no worldbuilding at all。 We are set in a fictional kingdom, ruled by „The Shadow King“ constantly invading other countries to expand his territory。 Thats basically it。 We don’t get any more infos on why or where and there is noth [Minor spoilers regarding romantic plot]Oh man。。。 to say I was disappointed by this would be an understatement。After all the hype I was expecting a dark spicy romance with a nice plot。 What I got was as flavorful as noodles cooked for too long without any salt。There was no worldbuilding at all。 We are set in a fictional kingdom, ruled by „The Shadow King“ constantly invading other countries to expand his territory。 Thats basically it。 We don’t get any more infos on why or where and there is nothing mentioned about the other kingdoms or rulers or anything at all。95% of the book only plays at the court of the Shadow King and there are only the same 5 rooms mentioned。 Very limited, very boring。And tbh。。。 i HATED Alessandra really HATED her。 She was so awful。 Always needed to remind everyone how beautiful and strong and fierce and smart she was。。。 like。。。 I get it stfu。 Her character development made 0 sense, if she sticked to her plans of gaining power I would have probably liked her more but 。。。 ya know how it went。This also made the romance super bland。 Of COURSE he fell in love with her because she is PERFECT AND BEAUTIFUL UGGHHHHHH + he needed to own her, this very powerful feminist woman that every male being in a 5 mile radius was basically in love with。 Nonono not with me。 Bullshit。And these two were so childish (probably also given the fact they where 18 & 19 。。。) and did not even acknowledge the fact that the people of the country (alway referred to as „peasants“ what made me SO angry) where starving and needed to trust on a thief to provide for them, while all the King cared about was their disturbed picnic and the fact they had lost some coins。 The most useless and unfitting rulers EVER!!!I thought I‘d like this book because I loved the Daughter of the Siren Queen duology but I was wrong。 I‘m giving 2 stars because I did finish the book because I liked the side characters Hestia and Rhoda even though the story was 100% obvious。 。。。more

honestly。 I started reading this book because it’s a stand alone。 but throughout this book。。 half way I just skimmed through the rest。 I felt like the storyline continue to drag on and on。 It wasn’t my favorite particularly。 but still I enjoyed it。 I mean from the synopsis we knew what would happen? sorry。。 Not for me。。

I give this book 5 stars because I couldn’t put it down。 It is a fantasy。 Enemies to lovers!! I would honestly sell my soul to read this book over again!

Alessandra has one goal in life: seduce the shadow prince, marry him, kill him and take over his power。The beginning is super strong but there is not that much happening in the first half of the book。 Alessandra manages to get herself a place at court but Kallias the shadow prince is pretty much busy otherwise all the time。 Alessandra makes a couple female friends which I didn't care too much neither did I for the little side story of a Robin Hood。 Alessandra is clearly an anti-hero and personal Alessandra has one goal in life: seduce the shadow prince, marry him, kill him and take over his power。The beginning is super strong but there is not that much happening in the first half of the book。 Alessandra manages to get herself a place at court but Kallias the shadow prince is pretty much busy otherwise all the time。 Alessandra makes a couple female friends which I didn't care too much neither did I for the little side story of a Robin Hood。 Alessandra is clearly an anti-hero and personal I found her a little bit too full of herself。 I wish there would have been more charm on her site something extra special to make me root for her more。 The only thing was the relationship with the dog which both of them had。 There are endless descriptions of the dresses she is designing to impress the prince。 I know there are also other things going on and she gives useful advice to the prince BUT there was still way too much focus on cloth。 Around the middle of the book the relationship is starting to pick up and Kallias was a much more interesting character。 On one side he was being nice and a gentleman but on other hand he can also be quite ruthless (scenes with the guard)。 I loved the scene were they both went to a gentlemen club to investigate。 The book is also quite sensual for being a YA book but these were actually the best scenes in this book。 While I hoped it would stay exciting in the second half, it got back to being boring pretty quick but picked up again towards the end with some twists and turns and lots of actions for the finale。The book had a good few scenes but was not as enjoyable as I hoped it would be。 。。。more

Not to mention the whole focus of what each of the characters had done or wanted to do with others。 I still don't think it was needed。 Most of the characters weren't good people and had no remorse for the things they had done in the past。If you enjoy reading about any of this then I'm sure you'll like this book, no judgment, it just wasn't for me。 The Assassin---The assassin part did surprise me, it shouldn't have because it was a typical plot twist but it did。 Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention。 The build-up to the discovery of it wasn't super straightforward and seemed like an afterthought。 It took a page maybe two for Alessandra to discover who it was after a seemingly random observation。 In many mystery novels, the characters would find small clues or hints that would push them to think and act and then discover, this wasn't the case。 I just couldn't see how such a random thing 。。。 (you'll see what it was if you read the book) could lead to the immediate conclusion of the whole story behind the assassin。 The Shadows and The World---There was so much more to be explored that was just touched on。 There isn't much information about the shadows which plays a fundemental part of this book。 The whole history of the origin of the shadows was just given a brief description。 The powers that the shadows held was also hardly talked about, we barely were told the extent they and he could do。 I wasn't sure where and when this story was set in。 I'm not good at imagining what things look like during the authors world building but some of it would be nice。 There were kingdoms and Kallias was the ruler of several of them but that is as much as we are told。 The nobility wasn't really discussed along with the rules and laws of the land。 I would have liked there to be more description on these things。 I have nothing against the author or anyone who enjoyed this book but it simply wasn't what I was looking for。 I do recommend reading it yourself before forming an opinion of the book。 。。。more

INFINITY OUT OF 5 STARS!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!I've found a book to join Heartless up top on my favourites list!!! Get ready for super long, incoherent review by yours truly!!! :)The Shadows Between Us is gold。 PURE GOLD! Thank you so much Tricia Levenseller for writing this book and this has convinced me to read her other duology Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen! To make this review somewhat organised, I'm going to divide this review in parts。 Let's start off with C INFINITY OUT OF 5 STARS!!!! To make this review somewhat organised, I'm going to divide this review in parts。 Let's start off with CHARACTERS 1) Alessandra Santhos Okay, so I get why some people hate her and some people love her。 I think she's a hit or miss。 Fortunately for me, I loved her! She's an extremely layered albeit FLAWED character。 She's ruthless, proud and very very smart。 She has been hardened by her experiences of neglect and unrequited love。 I thought her development arc was great and I loved seeing her character change throughout the book。 I loved her passion for fashion design, am I the only one who got Rarity vibes?? She was so unique and confident in herself, if she wants something, she takes it。 And once she sets her mind on something。。。 she is determined to reach her goal! I just love Slytherin girl protagonists!! Like, theu're so refreshing from the usual 'omg I'm so rebellious and heroic and I'm going to save the world, woop woop!' type of character。 Not that they're bad, but having a selfish character who develops to become less selfish throughout the book is really interesting。2) Kallias Maheras aka The Shadow King Now first of all, let's acknowledge his attractiveness!!!! Ok, now that that's out of the way, let's talk about HOW COOL THE WHOLE SHADOW CONCEPT IS?! I loved it!!! He was so guarded and distant and the way he changed。。。 great character dev arc as well!!! Some scenes with him and Alessandra were just *sigh* worthy!!! He is definitely added to my bbf list and he will be HiGhLiGhTeD in。。。 maybe purple。 Also, the black castle and black clothes and BLACK LEATHER GLOVES?! nkksaguiQLFFLSgdsj,kdxb3) Hestia I really liked her, she was so sweet。 And the way she discovered herself and stopped imitating Alessandra。。。 :)4) Rhoda I LOVED HER!!! She was great。 So unique and don't-care-ish。 And how she got with her servant and not some idiot rich dude, great。 Also, she was like so confident in herself, love that。 Ok, now let's talk about the plot and romance The plot was great。 It played out really well with bits of foreshadowing so it didn't feel toooo sudden although I think the Leonardo (is that his name? idk) part at the end was a little unbelievable! BUT STILL, I LOVED IT! The climax with the fight, like OMG!!!!! ok so, I feel like the pacing was great。 It wasn't slow, it was always twisting and turning and the characters didn't have endless inner monolgues that tempted me to skim。 The pacing wasn't too rushed either。 It felt well thought out and it built up to the climax nicely。 I finished this book in less than 24 hours。。。 so if that doesn't convince you to read this then maybe listen to the next part ;) WARNING, Ms。 Piezza, puh-lease do not read the next part Ok sooo the romance was top-notch。 It was slow, lots of tension and not sudden。 It built up to it nicely and I think Kallias and Alessandra were very well matched。 They had so much in common, their loneliness, ruthlessness, cleverness and fear hidden deep inside under layers of mystery and confidence。 Also, the scenes at (view spoiler)[ the lake where he "defended her honour", the Dawson's place, dInNeR tAbLe, cleaning wounds area and the room (hide spoiler)] were AMAZING I LITERALLY DIED!!! MY FRIEND MARIE KNOWS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!Ok bye thank you for reading my review!!!!!!!! 。。。more
