Summary

Six friends。
One college reunion。
One unsolved murder。

A college reunion turns dark and deadly in this chilling and propulsive suspense novel about six friends, one unsolved murder, and the dark secrets they’ve been hiding from each other—and themselves—for a decade。

Ten years after graduation, Jessica Miller has planned her triumphant return to southern, elite Duquette University, down to the envious whispers that are sure to follow in her wake。 Everyone is going to see the girl she wants them to see—confident, beautiful, indifferent—not the girl she was when she left campus, back when Heather’s murder fractured everything, including the tight bond linking the six friends she’d been closest to since freshman year。 Ten years ago, everything fell apart, including the dreams she worked for her whole life—and her relationship with the one person she wasn’t supposed to love。

But not everyone is ready to move on。 Not everyone left Duquette ten years ago, and not everyone can let Heather’s murder go unsolved。 Someone is determined to trap the real killer, to make the guilty pay。 When the six friends are reunited, they will be forced to confront what happened that night—and the years’ worth of secrets each of them would do anything to keep hidden。

Told in racing dual timelines, with a dark campus setting and a darker look at friendship, love, obsession, and ambition, In My Dreams I Hold A Knife is an addictive, propulsive read you won’t be able to put down。

Being my 100th book, I wanted a slam dunk 5 star read。 Although this book wasn't it。 I did enjoy it! Dual timelines and multiple POVs this book is for fans of One of Us Is Lying, but in my opinion executed much better! I thought One Of Us Is Lying was childish being main characters were high school students。 This book is college friends coming together for their class reunion and reliving an event that took place 10 years ago, which gives it a more mature vibe。 This being Winstead's first book I Being my 100th book, I wanted a slam dunk 5 star read。 Although this book wasn't it。 I did enjoy it! I enjoyed this debut thriller way more than the others from all the big names I read this summer (looking at you Riley Sager, Alex Michaelides, Shari Lapena, Paula Hawkins)

Well, this just wasn’t for me。 I hated the characters and it went on too long - I could be too old for this type of story。

4。5! What a rollercoaster。 The first 100 pages were slightly boring with a lot of background, so I didn’t care too much about them, but now that I’m done the book I can see how it was supposed to be a buildup to our group of characters。 Which is fine, but in the moment it was a little boring for me xD。 WITH THAT BEING SAID: the rest of the book, oh god。 It will keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what’s going on, who actually killed Heather, all the questions。 And we’re left with a sati 4。5! A wild, tense ride right up until the ending full of what-ifs, and how our lives dictate our motives and desires。 The perfect thriller! 。。。more

Ten years go by and a murder on a university campus remains unsolved。 Now six friends are reunited at the reunion and one of them is a murderer。 The victim’s brother is determined to find the killer before the reunion is over。 They all have secrets they are desperate to try and keep hidden。 This was such a great read。 The writing was fascinating in a way where you needed to know what happened to these ‘untouchable’ people。 Everything always looks perfect to those on the outside。 This story bring Ten years go by and a murder on a university campus remains unsolved。 Now six friends are reunited at the reunion and one of them is a murderer。 The victim’s brother is determined to find the killer before the reunion is over。 They all have secrets they are desperate to try and keep hidden。 This was such a great read。 The writing was fascinating in a way where you needed to know what happened to these ‘untouchable’ people。 Everything always looks perfect to those on the outside。 This story brings the imperfections, dirty little secrets, jealousy and obsession to the surface。 I really appreciated the dual timelines, the narration races to the conclusion on both。 To all my fellow thriller readers this is a must read you will not want to put down! 。。。more

“You, princess, won’t need to wish。 You’re going to earn。”A suspense-fueled meditation on fathers and failures and the hopefulness of our college selves。 Also, murder。

This was such a good book, especially for a debut novel! I did find it a bit tough to keep track of each character at the beginning but they were each so well developed throughout the story。 That got better with time and the jumps in timeline helped。 Definitely recommend this book!

This was super good - I loved it! It was included in my library Hoopla app which is amazing。The characters were all unique, and the POVs changed periodically when secrets would get revealed and then you'd get the backstory of that secret, which was super fun。 I always love a rich boarding school/university with shady student story and this was no exception。 Well written and fast paced and keeps you wanting to know who did it until the end reveal。 I hope this becomes a show or movie someday。 Will This was super good - I loved it! I did not enjoy this book at all。 It was cliche, terrible and I loathed all the characters。 Can’t quite figure out why it has such amazing reviews。 Not for me。

This is an above average dual timeline, multiple POV, 'everyone is unlikable and hiding something' thriller。 Maybe it's a sign of me growing old and judgemental but most of what the author tried to portray as "grey" was just completely effed up behavior。 This is an above average dual timeline, multiple POV, 'everyone is unlikable and hiding something' thriller。 Maybe it's a sign of me growing old and judgemental but most of what the author tried to portray as "grey" was just completely effed up behavior。 。。。more

Maybe this is more of a 3 star read, but it busted through some tropes I usually detest and was propulsively readable。 This book had interesting things to say about wealth and privilege and friendship。 It's been done, but I really liked how the author tackled the topics。 In the beginning pages I was so turned off by every character I came across。 I never grew to love them but I was absolutely interested in every one of them as well as their motivations。 I figured out who the murderer was not too Maybe this is more of a 3 star read, but it busted through some tropes I usually detest and was propulsively readable。 This book had interesting things to say about wealth and privilege and friendship。 It's been done, but I really liked how the author tackled the topics。 In the beginning pages I was so turned off by every character I came across。 I never grew to love them but I was absolutely interested in every one of them as well as their motivations。 I figured out who the murderer was not too far in- but as always that's only a guess that the reader has to confirm by finishing the book。 The journey of getting there and the way each character's involvement came to light was brilliantly executed。 。。。more

This one took me way too long to read- about three weeks。 It just moved so slow and I predicted who the killer was pretty early on and even the big twist at the end。 I think many will love this one, maybe I just need to pick up books that aren’t thrillers for a while。

Review to come。 All I can say is I relate to Jessica so much and this book was freaking amazing。 So emotional and raw。 The twists kept coming so it kept you in its grip until the end。

We have an unreliable narrator with convenient gaps in memory from the night in question, dual timelines to dish out juicy reveals in both the past and present, and surprisingly believable motives from most of the characters。 This group is a hot mess of scandal! The book relies on secrets from the past being revealed to get readers to narrow down the large suspect pool。 While it took me time to determine the real killer, I had a feeling about one twist simply because of where Heather’s body was found。 The bonus twist at the end was a nice but not entirely unexpected surprise。 This was fun because of the unlikeable characters and their ridiculous actions。I'm surprised to see this not listed as YA - there’s a definite YA feel here with dark academia ambition。For more reviews, visit www。rootsandreads。wordpress。com 。。。more

Hot damn! I loved this book! While I'm always down for a thriller that involves a group of "friends" returning to their college reunion to re-explore the unsolved murder of one of their group, that plot nuance can get a bit tired。 I'm happy to say though that this debut is anything but tired - it's one of those books that I finished several days ago, but can still remember every single thing like I just put it down。 Always the mark of a winner for me! When the East House Seven, as they were dubbed in college, are reunited ten years after graduation, their tight-knit circle has long since unraveled after one of them, Heather, was murdered during their senior year。 Though her killer was never caught, one of their other members, Jack, has always been the prime suspect。 Little do they know though that someone has brought them all together at the reunion to ferret out the real killer, and every single one of them has a dark secret - and a motive。 I must say that the characters in this book were all a hot mess - every one of them is devious, dark, and lies at the drop of a hat - but I loved them all! Half the fun of this book is figuring out not only who killed Heather, but all of the group's secrets as well。 I thought Winstead nailed the character development, as by the end of the book, I found myself rooting for every one of them in different ways。 And my oh my, the twists and turns in this one were so much fun。 Told from dual timelines - past to present, switching between the group - in a way that it made it one of my favorite dual timelines reads of late。 It was all plotted to a tee, with twists almost every chapter at just the right time。 And the final plot twist took me by surprise in a couple of different ways。 Brilliant! Did it end in an overly dramatic, almost Beverly Hills 90210 reminiscent fashion? Yes it did, and I am A-okay with that! Overall, maybe I shouldn't feel great about rooting for all of these somewhat awful people who make sketchy actions seem on par with the norm, but I actually derived much guilty pleasure out of it all。 All the freakin' stars for this debut! Count me in for whatever crazy ride Ashley Winstead comes up with next。 。。。more

This one is the mother of all Homecoming books with a murder to be solved。 I honestly loved this one to moon it was so good。 For me the characters did the trick, they had so much substance and layers。

7 friends。 One murder。 Tons of dark twisted secrets。 Gaaaah it’s so good it kept me guessing until the last page! So devilishly told, that even with all the jumpy timelines, I find it so easy to follow their stories and get attached。 Now it’s done。 And I have to seek other books good enough to follow this one。 Grh。

Intriguing look at 7 classmates at their 10th college reunion, with flashbacks to their college days when one of their friends was murdered in their senior year。 There were so many characters that I had trouble keeping their story lines straight。 The plot was a tangled spaghetti mess though, and replete with red herrings。

I was thrilled to find this in the “new” section of my local library and was immediately sucked in。 Even though I found the main character annoying and whiny, the alternating perspectives and dual timelines helped me focus less on her and more on trying to unravel what on earth went on in this friend group。 So much of this book filled me with college-related nostalgia which was an added bonus。 Hard to believe this is only a debut novel - the story was intricate, well-written, and honestly un-put I was thrilled to find this in the “new” section of my local library and was immediately sucked in。 Even though I found the main character annoying and whiny, the alternating perspectives and dual timelines helped me focus less on her and more on trying to unravel what on earth went on in this friend group。 So much of this book filled me with college-related nostalgia which was an added bonus。 Hard to believe this is only a debut novel - the story was intricate, well-written, and honestly un-putdown-able。 Will definitely read future books by Winstead。 。。。more
