Summary

THIS book is a handbook of types of nonverbal communication that will give you insights into the significance of gestures — factors of ordinary experiences that are all too often only vaguely understood, if not entirely ignored。

The material has been arranged so that the parts make up a meaningful whole: the gestures making clusters of gestures that make up attitudes dealing with relationships involved in life situations。 We hope we have added an important tool in the continuing search for a way to make man better understood by
his fellow men and to promote understanding among all men。 The process of communication, which continues to confound us, will be enhanced by the understanding and analysis of gestures。

Our function as human beings is to increase our expertise and to become so human that we see ourselves in all other people。

It was great when I read it years ago, but as we delved into human behaviour; I'd say some of the teachings here are already obsolete and shallow。 I don't dismiss the fact that there's a good amount of research done in this book but there are more comprehensive work out there, this one is basic。 It was great when I read it years ago, but as we delved into human behaviour; I'd say some of the teachings here are already obsolete and shallow。 I don't dismiss the fact that there's a good amount of research done in this book but there are more comprehensive work out there, this one is basic。 。。。more

I listened to the audiobook。 I thought it might be interesting, and help me better understand body language。 Well 。。。 it's short 。。。 only 39 minutes long。 I cannot say I learned a lot。Maybe the paper book is better 。。。 ? It mostly takes from interactions in business settings, but applies to most social spheres in Western settings and culture。

Very good book to read and learn about body language。 The book gives the views about "observing body language to know what people are thinking。" The book will be very useful for everyone, who wants to learn about psychology, negotiation, and human behavior。 It have many gems with some outdated gems。 Very good book to read and learn about body language。 The book gives the views about "observing body language to know what people are thinking。" The book will be very useful for everyone, who wants to learn about psychology, negotiation, and human behavior。 It have many gems with some outdated gems。 。。。more

Solid book about reading people from a foundational level。 Something to put into practice every single day!

An ok, body language 101 book。 Had to ignore many sexist comments and portrayals considering it was written in the early 70s。

A book on how to improve interpersonal communication, felt very cliche to me in the first impression, But as I kept on turning pages, I realized that even though we all want to be supreme conversationalists, extreme bluntness can lead to loss of respect among people involved。 More than communicating, this book is all about how to take in unspoken words and pick up signs。However, In my opinion, there can be instances where we might misread the situation and hence we should not completely rely on A book on how to improve interpersonal communication, felt very cliche to me in the first impression, But as I kept on turning pages, I realized that even though we all want to be supreme conversationalists, extreme bluntness can lead to loss of respect among people involved。 More than communicating, this book is all about how to take in unspoken words and pick up signs。However, In my opinion, there can be instances where we might misread the situation and hence we should not completely rely on gesturesBut overall, the book is very insightful。There were places where it was stretched a little bit and over empathised on some gestures like folded arms or clentched fists, which is very common and doesnt need much mention, hence feel free to skip few parts of it。 。。。more

This book is a self-help book meant to act as a guide to body language and facial expressions。 My initial impression of this book was pretty positive。 I enjoyed the detailed illustrations included as I am a visual learner and like learning through images。 Also, I liked all the quotes included at the start of each chapter。 However, I disliked the awkward writing style, which I later realized is a result of this book being written in the 70s, and the generally boring and repetitive structure of th This book is a self-help book meant to act as a guide to body language and facial expressions。 My initial impression of this book was pretty positive。 I enjoyed the detailed illustrations included as I am a visual learner and like learning through images。 Also, I liked all the quotes included at the start of each chapter。 However, I disliked the awkward writing style, which I later realized is a result of this book being written in the 70s, and the generally boring and repetitive structure of this book。 Overall, this book is mediocre but still somewhat informative。 。。。more
