Summary

NY Times best-selling author Dr。 Michael Roizen reveals how the food choices you make each day--and when you make them--can affect your health, your energy, your sex life, your waistline, your attitude, and the way you age。

What if eating two cups of blueberries a day could prevent cancer? If drinking a kale-infused smoothie could counteract missing an hour's worth of sleep? When is the right time of day to eat that chocolate chip cookie? And would you actually drink that glass of water if it meant skipping the gym? This revolutionary guide reveals how to use food to enhance our personal and professional lives--and increase longevity to boot。 What to Eat When is not a diet book。 Instead, acclaimed internist Michael Roizen and preventive medicine specialist Michael Crupain offer readers choices that benefit them the most--whether it's meals to help them look and feel younger or snacks that prevent diseases--based on the science that governs them。

Pretty standard stuff that won't be terribly new to people who have read similar books (or articles)。 Avoid processed foods and simple sugars/carbs, prioritize veggies and organic foods, and taper off your intake as the day goes on。 That's a very general summary, of course, and if you're new to this approach, you'll undoubtedly get more out of it。 It's good info for the most part, but the book gets a little repetitive。 Pretty standard stuff that won't be terribly new to people who have read similar books (or articles)。 Avoid processed foods and simple sugars/carbs, prioritize veggies and organic foods, and taper off your intake as the day goes on。 That's a very general summary, of course, and if you're new to this approach, you'll undoubtedly get more out of it。 It's good info for the most part, but the book gets a little repetitive。 。。。more

With so many books out there telling us what the new fad diet is sometimes it’s hard to decide what’s best。 One day eggs are good, the next day eggs are a big no no。 Want a glass of milk? Good luck with that! 2%, soy, cashew, almond, coconut, oat, hemp, rice I could go on and on! "When to eat when" is a book about how what you eat is as important as when you eat it。 Once that point is a made, the book presents a nice guide on how to eat food who loves you back。 Food who doesn't punish you for eating it, but rather helps your body and your mind to be an ally in your journey。 In that guide you can find examples of things to eat in diverse life situations: when you're grieving, before a job interview, when you have diarrhea, when you're trying to conceive, 。。。It's the kind "When to eat when" is a book about how what you eat is as important as when you eat it。 Once that point is a made, the book presents a nice guide on how to eat food who loves you back。 Food who doesn't punish you for eating it, but rather helps your body and your mind to be an ally in your journey。 In that guide you can find examples of things to eat in diverse life situations: when you're grieving, before a job interview, when you have diarrhea, when you're trying to conceive, 。。。It's the kind of book you keep close for a regular glance。 I enjoyed it, and I think it's worth reading or listening to。If you decide to read/listen to it, keep in mind: you don't have to do everything said in this book。 As always, just take what you think might be good for you right now。 That way you won't be overwhelmed or feel like you've been told to change your entire life。 。。。more

This is a good book, but it wasn't really the right time to read it (during a pandemic where I shouldn't be going to the grocery store a lot to change my eating habits)。 It did give me some things to think about and had a good plan to slowly change to a healthier style of eating。 I appreciate that the authors don't advocate any extreme measures and instead are recommending healthy foods and arranging your eating so that you get the most out of that food。 The back two-thirds of the book focus on This is a good book, but it wasn't really the right time to read it (during a pandemic where I shouldn't be going to the grocery store a lot to change my eating habits)。 It did give me some things to think about and had a good plan to slowly change to a healthier style of eating。 I appreciate that the authors don't advocate any extreme measures and instead are recommending healthy foods and arranging your eating so that you get the most out of that food。 The back two-thirds of the book focus on specific scenarios, but unfortunately, the advice gets really repetitive as the authors repeat over and over to eat salmon, eat walnuts, drink coffee and water, etc。 I ended up just browsing throught that section and finishing the book quickly。 。。。more

Very interesting book。 I have long thought that what we eat helps with certain illnesses。 In this book, specific illness are listed and the foods that will help people recover or possibly prevent cerain diseases by food type。 It also lists the foods that may contribute to the disease getting worse。 One thing that I truly liked about it was reading all the illnesses that coffee can help prevent。

This book talked a lot about exactly what the title says。 I didn't like it as much as the Mercola book, because it was more specific about the why's and wherefores。 But again it was talking about all the good things to be doing for better health。 Intermittent fasting, refraining from all the carbs, all good stuff。 This book talked a lot about exactly what the title says。 I didn't like it as much as the Mercola book, because it was more specific about the why's and wherefores。 But again it was talking about all the good things to be doing for better health。 Intermittent fasting, refraining from all the carbs, all good stuff。 。。。more

Some interesting thoughts, tho his approach differs from others in the field。 Sure wish everyone could get on the same page。 Egg yolks are bad, author states。 Everyone else seems to think cholesterol is not an issue as once thought。 Eating according to your circadian rhythm? I liked the way he had separate chapters for different health issues。 Overall, worth the read。 Just weigh the info。

Jossie Rivera

I understood the whole book。 The target is not any audience which is kind of disappointed because you want to help those as well。

This book doesn't seem to be too ground-breaking to me。 The main piece of advice I got out of it was to try eat a bigger breakfast and lunch and a smaller dinner。 This book is okay, but nothing special, in my opinion。 This book doesn't seem to be too ground-breaking to me。 The main piece of advice I got out of it was to try eat a bigger breakfast and lunch and a smaller dinner。 This book is okay, but nothing special, in my opinion。 。。。more

After hearing Dr。 Roizen speak at a seminar on wellness, I was impressed by his presentation that blended both the latest scientific research with action plans to stay healthy。 What to Eat When provides many great dietary suggestions that will allegedly improve your health and prolong your life。 As I incorporate his recommendation into my own diet, I suppose only time will tell。

Simple, clear, great back to basic advice

Are we not beyond vilifying egg yolks yet?? I only agreed with front loading your day, but a lot of the actual food suggestions did not apply to someone with an autoimmune disease。 Skimmed through the many, MANY chapters of every single scenario you might want to eat in and how to manage。Like when/how/what to eat when you want to shrink your prostate, on your period, making big decisions, on a date。 Really a bit too much。 I wanted more science behind timing。

Rose

The info wasn’t bad but it was a hard read。 It did not flow well and I found myself wanting them to get on with the information quicker。 If this was about half as long I would have enjoyed it much more。

Amanda

If you’ve read other health books, this won’t teach you anything new。

I've re-read this book and it's going to be part of my permanent collection。 This is an essential read for human health and has helped me with falling asleep and my energy levels。 Previously I was in a sleep study and I didn't show any improvement but after applying the knowledge in this book proper sleeping and eating has become routine。the book is written in familiar terms, the jokes where quirky but digestible。 The introduction to the overall science of nutrients and the digestive system is w I've re-read this book and it's going to be part of my permanent collection。 This is an essential read for human health and has helped me with falling asleep and my energy levels。 Previously I was in a sleep study and I didn't show any improvement but after applying the knowledge in this book proper sleeping and eating has become routine。the book is written in familiar terms, the jokes where quirky but digestible。 The introduction to the overall science of nutrients and the digestive system is written well however the grand themes could have been more organized for the fats section, a diagram would have been more helpful。The overall application of this eating regime is well thought out for a behavioural program。The chapters on practical applications for eating in response to environmental factors were great contextual additions to add because they acknowledge the potential complications that could interfere with the behavioural program。 Each chapter included examples of foods that are appropriate in different circumstances for example the examples of what to eat when someone has a cold。 These examples can be repetitive but that adds to the quality of this being a practically and applicable book because it's a great way to help with committing the information to memory and as the authour pointed out, there are essentials in the human diet that need to be consumed in a wide variety of situations。I did fact checks on most of the content。 It's well researched however do your own research for the specific examples of foods because for some of the suggestions the overall body of literature doesn't agree with some exclusions that were mentioned in this book。 For example coconut oil is given as an example as a bad fat however a review of multiple peer reviewed publications shows that that is debatable and there is even evidence that 1/4-1/2 of coconut oil a day can have health benefits。 These moments are rare in the book but be sure to do a fact check for these important details before taking foods out of your diet。 。。。more

I was sceptical about the idea that eating certain foods at certain times would be good or bad for you, but the way it's presented in this book is quite convincing and I am considering putting the it to the test。 I did feel that the book was unnecessarily padded out and that the main message could have been condensed down to a shorter book, but I appreciate publishers like a 300 page book so I understand why that was。 I was sceptical about the idea that eating certain foods at certain times would be good or bad for you, but the way it's presented in this book is quite convincing and I am considering putting the it to the test。 I did feel that the book was unnecessarily padded out and that the main message could have been condensed down to a shorter book, but I appreciate publishers like a 300 page book so I understand why that was。 。。。more

This book simultaneously has a lot of basic info and a lot of fluff。 It all boils down to eating very clean ALL the time for this author。 You could skip most of the beginning and read the 10 commandments at the end, then double back and read the individual chapters which apply to your life, and use the saved time to meal plan for your upcoming super boring diet of salmon, beans, walnuts, and ginger tea。 No sugar!

Victor Samuel

Key takeaway for me was to limit eating window during daylight hours to align with circadian rhythms。 Other advice was practical but nothing new- eat more vegetables, control portions, natural foods, etc。 An instructive book nonetheless, especially so for those looking to implement a plan of action to seriously lose weight and improve health and wellness。

Not a bad starting point to make a diet change but this is unfortunately full of pseudoscoentific nonsense statements that are making big damages。 Reducing diversity of foods in your diet is definitely the worse advice I've read in decades。 Not a bad starting point to make a diet change but this is unfortunately full of pseudoscoentific nonsense statements that are making big damages。 Reducing diversity of foods in your diet is definitely the worse advice I've read in decades。 。。。more

If you want to eat healthily, then you need to think not just about what you eat, but when you eat it。 A healthy diet is one based around whole foods, healthy fats, and plant- and sea-based proteins。 And it’s one in which 75 percent of your calories are consumed at breakfast and lunch。

Laura

A very repetitive book。 It was good but the main emphasis and repetition was on eating the majority of calories earlier in the day , and eat salmon veggies fruits and nuts and of course exercise
