StrengthsFinder 2。0 by Tom Rath was a great read to not only find my unique strengths as a worker but also know the path towards developing each one specifically。 I was asked to read this book for my job (Editorial Director at FanSided) as a team-building exercise and I remember taking the original StrengthsFinder 1。0 many years ago when I used to work in retail electronics (Operations Supervisor at Best Buy)。What I enjoyed the most about StrengthsFinder 2。0 was how regardless of both of these d StrengthsFinder 2。0 by Tom Rath was a great read to not only find my unique strengths as a worker but also know the path towards developing each one specifically。 I was asked to read this book for my job (Editorial Director at FanSided) as a team-building exercise and I remember taking the original StrengthsFinder 1。0 many years ago when I used to work in retail electronics (Operations Supervisor at Best Buy)。What I enjoyed the most about StrengthsFinder 2。0 was how regardless of both of these different professions, it was a great read for someone like me who is heavily work-oriented and in leadership positions。 It doesn’t matter what profession you’re in, you will undoubtedly find your unique strengths in this book and focus on developing them towards focused results in the future。 I give StrengthsFinder 2。0 a 4/5 only because the flow of reading this book is easy but you’ll find some strengths that are definitely not you in which you can skip for the most part since it’s that unrelatable。 That’s what I enjoyed the most, digging deep to find my unique strengths, taking the assessment, and truly understanding to stop focusing on my weaknesses but more on developing my unique strengths。 I highly recommend this book for those that truly want to take their respective careers to the next level。 Even if your company doesn’t require you to read this book and take the assessment, after you’ve done both, you’ll be a better employee because of it。 Guaranteed! 。。。more

Kind of useless to borrow this from the library when the real value of this book is to take the online quiz (no access code provided from the library)。 I’m not paying $20 to take a quiz online that I feel will provide no value to my life。 I read through the descriptions of each of the 34 traits, and they were all quite vague in their descriptions。

I took this book and a couple others with an open mind, as my system director handed them to me at work when cleaning out my former supervisor’s office, making a comment along the lines that these would be up my alley。 Took me years to start reading them, but basically, these are books given out as part of classes management can take at my employer to improve leadership skills (and sadly not for regular employees like me)。 I took it for what it was, an introduction to a psychological concept of I took this book and a couple others with an open mind, as my system director handed them to me at work when cleaning out my former supervisor’s office, making a comment along the lines that these would be up my alley。 Took me years to start reading them, but basically, these are books given out as part of classes management can take at my employer to improve leadership skills (and sadly not for regular employees like me)。 I took it for what it was, an introduction to a psychological concept of how to view oneself by improving upon and working to one’s strengths rather than working on one’s weaknesses。 There is the intro and then the descriptions of 34 “strengths” that include helpful hints, suggestions, and pitfalls to watch out for, both with regards to yourself possessing this strength or another you recognize as possessing this strength。 The code was still sealed in the back (guess neither my supervisor nor director cared to use it) and I did take the test, learned my top five strengths。 Of course, unsurprisingly, you can purchase your entire ranking of all 34 strengths。 I wasn’t too fazed by this money grab facet like some reviewers, as I expected as much。 It helped that I was given the unused book for free, I am sure, though I wasn’t aware of the exam until I had finished the book and read about it。In a nutshell, read the book for self-evaluation with an open viewpoint and you will see strengths pop out for yourself that you will innately recognize you possess stronger than others。 Three of the ones the test selected as my top five I would have had there myself sans exam。 You don’t need the exam if you get the book secondhand to be honest; it has enough worth for self awareness。 First know yourself, then start applying the 34 strengths and what you see stand out in others; that was the pivotal concept of this book—recognizing your strengths and the strengths of others。Overall, I think this is a great mindset to walk into with regards to yourself。 While I don’t agree with everything the book had to offer, you can use it at face value and tailor facets of your life to your strengths, or you can use it as a psychological boost to enhance your strengths and then perhaps have the confidence to tackle some of these attributes you feel you are deficient in and would like some improvement。 And don’t forget the other intended attribute of this book in observing others and employing their strengths for a more efficient use of everyone involved, whether personal or professional relationships。 。。。more

Great concept and interesting idea, but the test itself was problematic in the way that many tests of this nature are。 The wording makes the questions impossible to answer in a "choose how strongly you relate to this statement on a five-point-scale" kind of way。 The encouragement to choose quickly brought out my fastest instincts, and not necessarily my true strengths。 I don't deny that my identified strengths are talents of mine that I enjoy, but I think the test missed a major dimension of my Great concept and interesting idea, but the test itself was problematic in the way that many tests of this nature are。 The wording makes the questions impossible to answer in a "choose how strongly you relate to this statement on a five-point-scale" kind of way。 The encouragement to choose quickly brought out my fastest instincts, and not necessarily my true strengths。 I don't deny that my identified strengths are talents of mine that I enjoy, but I think the test missed a major dimension of my personality that gets cut off when I am in a time crunch with very limited options, which is a pretty serious flaw, don't you think? 。。。more

I am a lifelong learner, and always looking for self-improvement。 This book provided some new ideas for how to approach self-improvement by identifying your own strengths。 I find myself returning to certain parts of the book every now and then for a bit of inspiration。 The book is brief and not very detailed for some concepts。 But overall, it was a useful read。

It’s not so much a book as just a printed version of the website。 The strength descriptor pretty much just said exactly what was already on the website。 Not criticising the concept, the book just feels like a gimmick to sell codes with not a lot of additional information than what is on the website。

Good for fine tuning your efforts and for understanding others。 I wish this was covered more in school。 And the book comes with a code for the quiz to show you what your core strength is but, doesn’t account for use without the code。 It could have more clarification on how to use the information。
