Summary

Do you believe in magic?

Can you imagine a war between wizards, a rebellious ant called 4179003, or a time-travelling television?

Can you imagine that poor old Mr Swimble could see a mysterious vacuum cleaner in the morning, and make cheese sandwiches and yellow elephants magically appear by the afternoon?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sir Terry Pratchett, and fourteen fantastically funny tales from the master storyteller。 Bursting from these pages are food fights, pirates, bouncing rabbits and magical pigeons。

And a witch riding a vacuum cleaner, of course。

I can't say I liked all the stories equally but it was still a very cute book with some wonderful illustrations that made the whole experience complete。 I can't say I liked all the stories equally but it was still a very cute book with some wonderful illustrations that made the whole experience complete。 。。。more

Obviously a very early Pratchett。 You can see where his later mythology would come from, but he hadn't perfected his writing yet Obviously a very early Pratchett。 You can see where his later mythology would come from, but he hadn't perfected his writing yet 。。。more

This is a book with a lot of different stories。 Some have only one and some have a few more stories that come right after the first。 It is a very nice book that is crazy and out of your imagination。 It gives you a lot of humour。 There are some very nice stories in it。 This book I think is good for everybody to read。 This book gives me joy and a lot of imagination。 I recommend this to everyone。

The stories I liked the most: The Time Traveling Television, Thr Blacksbury Park Statues, Wizard War, and The Extraordinary Adventures of Doggins。

This is the very first Pratchett book I’ve read to my kids (8 & 6。5) and they are LOVING IT!!! The giggles just keep coming and they are asking me to re-read some of the stories over and over 🖤 Can’t wait till they’ll be old enough to get into the Discworld series by themselves。 I already have the reading order table saved and waiting 😂

Well narrated audio book。 Fun stories。 The gnome story had us laughing out loud。

It's just not that funny。。。 I'm not a kid, but I can still enjoy children's books, especially because I have a child who loves stories。I liked THE WITCH'S VACUUM CLEANER, THE TRULY TERRIBLE TOOTHACHE (the favorite one), THE FIRE OPAL and WIZARD WAR (least favorite)。The other stories were。。。 meh。 It's just not that funny。。。 I'm not a kid, but I can still enjoy children's books, especially because I have a child who loves stories。I liked THE WITCH'S VACUUM CLEANER, THE TRULY TERRIBLE TOOTHACHE (the favorite one), THE FIRE OPAL and WIZARD WAR (least favorite)。The other stories were。。。 meh。 。。。more

Charming (of course, I mean, it /is/ Pratchett) but no where near the caliber of his later works。

Entertaining short stories by PTerry。 The Wales westerns are a hoot with some very classic puns - claim jumper is the best。 If you get it you get it。

These children's stories are obviously fairly light but Terry Pratchett's wit and humour still shine through。 You can see the beginnings of the brilliant fantasy place called Discworld that he so cleverly created and the magic that he weaved enthralling all his fans。 RIP Terry。 These children's stories are obviously fairly light but Terry Pratchett's wit and humour still shine through。 You can see the beginnings of the brilliant fantasy place called Discworld that he so cleverly created and the magic that he weaved enthralling all his fans。 RIP Terry。 。。。more

Fun kid stories about wizardry。 Audiobook has noise effects that can be too loud。

Awesome little tales from a gifted young author! : )This is a really cool set of short stories! I don’t know if these are all completely accurate as to his original works, but they are very creative and cute constructs。 Very enjoyable。

Not as good as the Dragons at Crumbling Castle collection。

Ana

3 star *may change ah, very dry humor and quite absurd。

Truly enjoyable writing。 This was written as a children's book, but is perfectly suited to adults。It shows the start of a truly great writer, Terry Pratchett。 Truly enjoyable writing。 This was written as a children's book, but is perfectly suited to adults。It shows the start of a truly great writer, Terry Pratchett。 。。。more

Such a dissapointment!

Maggie

It was humorous and interesting。 Even if it seams like it is for younger readers, I really enjoyed that。

I picked this up on impulse when browsing the library, just before Christmas。 The colouring and style made me think it was a Roald Dahl book but I’m certainly not sad that it’s Pratchett。One of my reading goals this year is it pick up at least one short story collection a month, so this was a nice was to start 2021。 Lots of fun stories about magic, mayhem and adventure! I'm an adult Pratchett fan who stumbled upon the audiobook of this without realizing the intended audience was apparently children。 It didn't matter。 The stories are entertaining, characteristically full of magic and humour。 It was a quick "read," but enjoyable。 I'm an adult Pratchett fan who stumbled upon the audiobook of this without realizing the intended audience was apparently children。 It didn't matter。 The stories are entertaining, characteristically full of magic and humour。 It was a quick "read," but enjoyable。 。。。more

What I thought: This was a decent short story collection。 The stories are Discworld-like, but not set in Discworld。 There were a few parts that made me giggle out loud。 Overall, I find I prefer my Pratchett in larger doses that can build up some steam as they chug along。

I would say this is an easy and enjoyable listen。 None of them are bad, all are silly and fun, but not many were particularly engaging。 Terry P is always entertaining。

I so wished for this to be as delightfully thrilling as the first collection, but only a few of these really shone。 I have a sneaking suspicion this might prove to be my least favorite Terry Pratchett。 The kids didn't even laugh at/react to much of anything in the second half of this collection。。。 and they are so much more forgiving an audience than I。 I so wished for this to be as delightfully thrilling as the first collection, but only a few of these really shone。 I have a sneaking suspicion this might prove to be my least favorite Terry Pratchett。 The kids didn't even laugh at/react to much of anything in the second half of this collection。。。 and they are so much more forgiving an audience than I。 。。。more

As much as I love Sir Terry Pratchett, short stories are not his forte。 The fantasy world he creates lasts too short to enjoy every ounce of it。 They feel a little scattered, perhaps。 I'm extremely biased, but even I have to say that this was just passable。 As much as I love Sir Terry Pratchett, short stories are not his forte。 The fantasy world he creates lasts too short to enjoy every ounce of it。 They feel a little scattered, perhaps。 I'm extremely biased, but even I have to say that this was just passable。 。。。more

(I'm not rating the book because I realized belatedly that it's a children's book。 I love Terry Pratchett but I'm not the book's target audience。 I imagine little kids would enjoy it。) (I'm not rating the book because I realized belatedly that it's a children's book。 I love Terry Pratchett but I'm not the book's target audience。 I imagine little kids would enjoy it。) 。。。more
