Oh, no! It's a Gruffalo!"The tides have turned, the mouse is the one who now has a terrified expression on his face, but only for a page。 The next time we see that little rodent- while the Gruffalo is filling him in on how mice are his favorite food- he is pensive。。。he's contemplating how to get out of this because even when confronted with the biggest problem, he thinks fast。 The Gruffalo is big, he does have terrible tusks and terrible claws, warts, and purple prickles all over him but this monster does not look very smart。 As a matter of fact, the expressions on his face are naivety, trust, confusion, even maybe sadness。 So, despite being scary-looking- his demeanor is gentle。 They retrace the mouse's steps, meeting once again with the snake, then the owl, and at last the fox。 The preditors were obviously actually afraid of the Gruffalo standing behind the minuscule mouse but the mouse made it seem as though it were he all the others were afraid of。 When they are alone again, the mouse bluffs his way out of his last predicament of the day and sends the Gruffalo screaming for the hills。 These kinds of stories prove- no matter what size you are, you do not need to fall prey to the bigger, tougher, stronger beings。 It's important to keep your cool and use your brains when confronted with a seemingly unwinnable situation。 Sometimes you might need to get a little creative but it's always worth a shot。 It also reminds us that everyone no matter how powerful has their vulnerabilities。 So, when you are feeling alone in your fear, you can remember that the people you're afraid of have things they are afraid of as well。 This story was written when I was already in high school and I'm not sure how I missed it when my daughter was young but I am blessed to have found it now! I look forward to reading the sequels。 。。。more

Simply amazing for a child's book。 It get everything right, the plot, the rhymes, the teachable moments, the illustrations。 Themes about being clever, creative, fearless, confident, outsmarting your opponents, calmness in the face of immense danger。 This deserves to be a classic to be read for 100 years。 Simply amazing for a child's book。 It get everything right, the plot, the rhymes, the teachable moments, the illustrations。 Themes about being clever, creative, fearless, confident, outsmarting your opponents, calmness in the face of immense danger。 This deserves to be a classic to be read for 100 years。 。。。more

Too complex for a two year old - maybe more suited for older kids。

Matt

Great book for young children, funny for older audiences too! Has some repetition but not too much and helps kids remember some of the story better。 The rhymes in this book are funny as well!

Tiklīdz grāmata bija izlasīta, bērns uzreiz lūdza sākt no sākuma un lasīt atkārtoti。 Tas ir rādītājs, ka grāmata bija lieliska。 Man arī patika, ļoti labskanīga!

I found this book in Harvest Kids Church, the play area。 I like the mouse cause it is very smart。

Aside from a questionable moral lol ("I can get whatever I want if I can lie well enough。。。"), it's a great book。 I love the DVD claymation。 Aside from a questionable moral lol ("I can get whatever I want if I can lie well enough。。。"), it's a great book。 I love the DVD claymation。 。。。more

Haha I just really wanted to tell everyone that this is my favorite kids’ book for the toddler age。 The rhythm, cadence and rhymes are perfect。 I memorized it quickly (the mark, to me, of an excellent kid’s book: it’s simple and the lines are intuitive)。 The little brown mouse is fun, funny, and delightful。

Emily Cruse

Great book。 Surprise ending。 Would definitely recommend

Nelly

This book is promoted as the best of Julia Donaldson, all the other books are covered in stickers « from the author of Gruffalo », but I can’t agree。 It’s definitely 4 out of 5。 Still the author has many other exciting pieces。

Shelley

This was my first time reading this book and I absolutely loved it!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I can now see why parents request this book at the library and why it is considered a classic。 The books has the perfect rhyming pattern that is easy to follow and remember which makes it perfect for a read aloud。 And clever old mouse twists and turns his lies until he weasels out of all his problems。 But little did he know, about that Gruffalo!

Sean

Bought this for my niece。 I'm glad she'll be learning the most important lesson a child can learn: that some times lying is good。 Bought this for my niece。 I'm glad she'll be learning the most important lesson a child can learn: that some times lying is good。 。。。more

It's very fun and funny 🖤 the art is cute and the story feels like a fable (even though I'm not sute what the moral would be 🤷🏻‍♂️ )。 It's very fun and funny 🖤 the art is cute and the story feels like a fable (even though I'm not sute what the moral would be 🤷🏻‍♂️ )。 。。。more

At the end of the book It doesn’t make any sense why would the gruffalo be scared if a mouse said “my favourite food is gruffalo pie? Because how is a mouse supposed to eat something 10 times the size of you?

The story follows a mouse who is on a quest to find nuts, but on his travels comes across predators trying to eat him。 The house tricks his predators by telling him he's going to meet 'the Gruffalo。。 why didn't you know。' This story covers themes such as bravery, perseverance and imagination。 The rhyming couplets throughout give a nice pace to the story, and the colourful illustrations make the story more engaging。 The BBC adaptation is a great added bonus, bringing the story to life。 I would re The story follows a mouse who is on a quest to find nuts, but on his travels comes across predators trying to eat him。 The house tricks his predators by telling him he's going to meet 'the Gruffalo。。 why didn't you know。' This story covers themes such as bravery, perseverance and imagination。 The rhyming couplets throughout give a nice pace to the story, and the colourful illustrations make the story more engaging。 The BBC adaptation is a great added bonus, bringing the story to life。 I would recommend this book for Reception and Key stage 1 children。 。。。more
