Summary

In her #1 New York Times bestsellers, Brené Brown has taught us what it means to dare greatly, rise strong, and brave the wilderness。 Now, based on new research conducted with leaders, change makers, and culture shifters, she's showing us how to put those ideas into practice so we can step up and lead。

Leadership is not about titles, status, and wielding power。 A leader is anyone who takes responsibility for recognizing the potential in people and ideas, and has the courage to develop that potential。

When we dare to lead, we don't pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions。 We don't see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it with others。 We don't avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into vulnerability when it's necessary to do good work。

But daring leadership in a culture defined by scarcity, fear, and uncertainty requires skill-building around traits that are deeply and uniquely human。 The irony is that we're choosing not to invest in developing the hearts and minds of leaders at the exact same time as we're scrambling to figure out what we have to offer that machines and AI can't do better and faster。 What can we do better? Empathy, connection, and courage, to start。

Four-time #1 New York Times bestselling author Brené Brown has spent the past two decades studying the emotions and experiences that give meaning to our lives, and the past seven years working with transformative leaders and teams spanning the globe。 She found that leaders in organizations ranging from small entrepreneurial startups and family-owned businesses to nonprofits, civic organizations, and Fortune 50 companies all ask the same question:

How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?

In this new book, Brown uses research, stories, and examples to answer these questions in the no-BS style that millions of readers have come to expect and love。

Brown writes, "One of the most important findings of my career is that daring leadership is a collection of skills and practices that are 100 percent teachable。 It's learning and unlearning that requires brave work, tough conversations, and showing up with your whole heart。 Easy? No。 Because choosing courage over comfort is not always our default。 Worth it? Always。 We want to be brave with our lives and our work。 It's why we're here。"

Whether you've read Daring Greatly and Rising Strong or you're new to Brené Brown's work, this book is for anyone who wants to step up and into brave leadership。

Couldn’t finish - if I still worked in an office, I know this would be a great read。

I loved how practical and hands on this book was。 It explains the vulnerability as a core tenet of leadership, and proceeds to present arguments of how when introduced with vulnerability, teams began to change。 Coming from an engineering background, some concepts were new and had to further researched, but the way it was written made it easy to stick to it and finish。 Would recommend to people who are working with, or managing teams especially。

Wow, so good。 I'm going to have to read it again because there was such good information presented and so many tips and techniques to try。 I know I haven't internalized all of them, so reading it again, or perhaps treating it like a workbook may be helpful。 Wow, so good。 I'm going to have to read it again because there was such good information presented and so many tips and techniques to try。 I know I haven't internalized all of them, so reading it again, or perhaps treating it like a workbook may be helpful。 。。。more

New add to my all-time favorites shelf。 An incredibly rich resource and transformative way to think about conflict, organizational culture, change resilience, and how to unlock the potential of the people we work with to allow them to really feel empowered, shine, and make positive contributions。 I listened to the audiobook and loved hearing Brene's advice directly from her, in her voice, but also had to order a physical copy so I can refer back to the recommendations and frameworks。 New add to my all-time favorites shelf。 An incredibly rich resource and transformative way to think about conflict, organizational culture, change resilience, and how to unlock the potential of the people we work with to allow them to really feel empowered, shine, and make positive contributions。 I listened to the audiobook and loved hearing Brene's advice directly from her, in her voice, but also had to order a physical copy so I can refer back to the recommendations and frameworks。 。。。more

This is a MUST read book。 Whether you are a leader within your organization or just someone who wants to have healthy relationships in their life this book will rock your world。 I plan on reading it again, which i never do。 Brene is thoughtful and tactful in her approach and I love how she teaches by sharing her failures, just a beautifully written book with so much APPLICABLE knowledge and action items。 READ IT。

Brene Brown has a Netflix episode called: "Brené Brown: The Call to Courage"。 It is shorter, more condensed, and up to the point than this book。 Brene Brown has a Netflix episode called: "Brené Brown: The Call to Courage"。 It is shorter, more condensed, and up to the point than this book。 。。。more

I love this book。 Brené seems to reach deep in a light, digestible way and uses story telling and metaphoric examples to drive home the importance of the simplest ways to be with the people around us。 It's useful for the workplace, in business and at home。 I love this book。 Brené seems to reach deep in a light, digestible way and uses story telling and metaphoric examples to drive home the importance of the simplest ways to be with the people around us。 It's useful for the workplace, in business and at home。 。。。more

This book demolished the idea that leaders must always lead from a position of strength, can never be vulnerable, and should hide any weaknesses or fears they might have。 Brené Brown says just the opposite: it’s through vulnerability, openness, empathy, establishing values, and building trust that we find the best leaders。 Ultimately this is a book about finding courage to be the kind of leader who is vulnerable and understanding how this path not only makes us better leaders, but better friends This book demolished the idea that leaders must always lead from a position of strength, can never be vulnerable, and should hide any weaknesses or fears they might have。 Brené Brown says just the opposite: it’s through vulnerability, openness, empathy, establishing values, and building trust that we find the best leaders。 Ultimately this is a book about finding courage to be the kind of leader who is vulnerable and understanding how this path not only makes us better leaders, but better friends, spouses and neighbors as well。 。。。more

One of the better leadership development books I’ve read。 I listened to this on audio and have to admit, loved Brene more in hearing her read this。 Her voice and mannerisms made the topics come alive more so than if I were reading it on my own。 I’m excited to put some of her topics into practice!

There's some good information here but the rhetoric seems to slide down into corporate "let's be a team" jargon that's unappealing at times。 The skill sets are there but the wording is tedious。 No way would I begin a meeting with the guys I manage at work with "let's have a constructive rumble"。 Gtfoh。 There's some good information here but the rhetoric seems to slide down into corporate "let's be a team" jargon that's unappealing at times。 The skill sets are there but the wording is tedious。 No way would I begin a meeting with the guys I manage at work with "let's have a constructive rumble"。 Gtfoh。 。。。more

I loved this book and go back to it a lot。 Especially at work, I keep it on the shelf above my chair。

For stater, this book doesn’t acknowledge the premise that a market capital society is by nature dehumanizing, even more so in the corporate world。 This books mostly translates with “it is better to be humane than put all emotions aside and turn into machines” - it’s flat。 Not worth spending time reading it。

I read this book for school。 There are a lot of meaningful lessons in this book and it made me think long and hard about how I approach my different leadership roles, although I am still a student。 Some of the lessons were hard for me to understand because I have not personally experienced them and some of the scenarios were not personally relatable。 The lessons presented in Dare to Lead are applicable in the workplace as well as in one's personal life。 I've identified a lot of red flags from th I read this book for school。 There are a lot of meaningful lessons in this book and it made me think long and hard about how I approach my different leadership roles, although I am still a student。 Some of the lessons were hard for me to understand because I have not personally experienced them and some of the scenarios were not personally relatable。 The lessons presented in Dare to Lead are applicable in the workplace as well as in one's personal life。 I've identified a lot of red flags from the book that have kept me from being an effective leader and I have been working through them with my therapist。 Even if you're not a leader, this book lays down some great foundational knowledge that is currently lacking in most of our educational settings and family lives。 The analogy that comes to my mind is that when you're sick, you might have to take a dose of medicine that doesn't taste so great。 However, it will help you get better。 Dare to Lead was the medicine I needed and I know I will come back to it when things get hard。 Brene is doing wonderful work! 。。。more

"Strong Back, Soft Front, Wild Heart。"The lessons run deep, whether you are leading a business, a family or your own life。 While some examples I've listened to previously in Brown's other books, the words bear repeating。 Using these systems with continual practice and organizational implementation are the foundations of extraordinary leadership。 "Strong Back, Soft Front, Wild Heart。"The lessons run deep, whether you are leading a business, a family or your own life。 While some examples I've listened to previously in Brown's other books, the words bear repeating。 Using these systems with continual practice and organizational implementation are the foundations of extraordinary leadership。 。。。more

I initially skipped this book because I thought based off the title, I am not a leader of anything so this book must not before me。 But this book has incredible implications for so many aspects of life。 Brene’s wholistic take on leadership means that as a mom, pastors wife, small group co-leader, this information beyond valuable。 Brene’s writing style is easy to listen to and so so relatable。

I love Brene Brown。 Most of this was recycled material from some of her earlier books and put in a format to be used for companies vs。 individuals/therapeutic situations。

I found the first part of this a total slog, frankly, and couldn’t get past some of her weirder terminology。 (Rumbling, make it stopppp)。 But about a third or half way through it became much more useful and it felt applicable in ways that would be helpful and tangible。 Especially recommend if you’re trying to reconnect with some sense of a professional self or trying to figure out how the pieces of your life can fit together a bit more congruently。

I liked the underlying ideas but was bothered by the continuous references to other books。 Felt like a sales pitch at times。

I absolutely love Brene Brown, and this book Did。 Not。 Disappoint。 It's authentic and genuine, and more than that, it's designed to be practical - so you can immediately get to work with implementing it。 There's loads of resources on her website and I can't wait to start putting this into practice。 The whole way through this I was underlining and annotating "oh man, that's ME! I do that!" I've never had a book make me feel so seen。 This book will make me a better person。 THANK YOU BRENE! I picked up this book because this author was highly recommended by some other authors that I have really enjoyed and respect。 I saw the author’s ted-talk before starting the book and loved it。 She is a researcher herself。。 so I expected to know more about her research, studies and some data-driven conclusions。 But this book doesn’t have any of it。 The book felt like a self-help book which is geared by author’s personal stories。 I would have appreciated more details about the studies, insights f I picked up this book because this author was highly recommended by some other authors that I have really enjoyed and respect。 I saw the author’s ted-talk before starting the book and loved it。 She is a researcher herself。。 so I expected to know more about her research, studies and some data-driven conclusions。 But this book doesn’t have any of it。 The book felt like a self-help book which is geared by author’s personal stories。 I would have appreciated more details about the studies, insights from those studies and examples of impact。 Having said that, I do not discount the message she shares in the book。 Her approach to vulnerability, leadership, empathy and communication is very insightful。 Especially, the contrast between armored and daring leadership was mind provoking。 I have been fortunate enough to have bosses and mentors who are “daring” and hence the benefit of such approach resonates with me。 But because of that, because I have seen them in practice, the approach in book did not surprise me。 。。。more

While there are some nuggets to be learned in Dare to Lead, I could not get passed how many times Brown mentions her other books。 If the topics are so similar only one book is needed。 If they are different let them stand alone。

DNF。 I got really close but it was an automatic return。 I really enjoy the lessons this book conveyed but a 3 from me because i simply could not apply it to my life right now。 I still learned a lot but didn't realize how focused on occupational leadership it was。 One day when I am in a leadership role at work, I will pick it back up again。 DNF。 I got really close but it was an automatic return。 I really enjoy the lessons this book conveyed but a 3 from me because i simply could not apply it to my life right now。 I still learned a lot but didn't realize how focused on occupational leadership it was。 One day when I am in a leadership role at work, I will pick it back up again。 。。。more
