I loved Nati's journey of self-discovery and the discussions around the struggle she faces as a diasporic Brazilian—I'm not Brazilian， but as a second-gen immigrant， I felt that a lot of Nati's fears and insecurities resonated deeply with me。 That was definitely my favorite part of the book。Unfortunately， I feel lukewarm about the romance itself。 Certain details took me out of the romance because they made me question how realistic it was。 For one， both Nati and William have such strong reasons I loved Nati's journey of self-discovery and the discussions around the struggle she faces as a diasporic Brazilian—I'm not Brazilian， but as a second-gen immigrant， I felt that a lot of Nati's fears and insecurities resonated deeply with me。 That was definitely my favorite part of the book。Unfortunately， I feel lukewarm about the romance itself。 Certain details took me out of the romance because they made me question how realistic it was。 For one， both Nati and William have such strong reasons for going along with the fake relationship that it surprised me that they were constantly fighting with each other in public。 I get that arguments = romantic drama， but it made me feel like they weren't committed to the fake relationship at all。I also had a hard time buying William's complaints about dealing with Nati's fame and scrutiny， since he's also a celebrity/entertainer。 Sure， I guess indie actors get less scrutiny than huge Hollywood stars， but he still should be used to the idea of being under a microscope more than a normal person， right？ His attitude would've made much more sense to me if he wasn't an actor himself， indie or not。 Not to mention it was weird that he turned down high-paying roles in favor of indie movies even though his family is in debt？ Like。。。people do know actors take roles they don't like unless they're super famous and rich already because they need to pay rent， right？ 。。。more

Not really a fan of the cover， but it's been a long time since I read fake-dating trope romance and I saw the early good reviews and I just knew I had to anticipate for this book。But。。。 this was just not that good。 I just found a lot of things awkward and unnatural。 First， the MC's were suppossedly 17， but I think it would have suited more if they're in their mid to late 20's。 The heroine's inner voice felt mature， but I found her annoying and judgmental at times， like the part where she called Not really a fan of the cover， but it's been a long time since I read fake-dating trope romance and I saw the early good reviews and I just knew I had to anticipate for this book。But。。。 this was just not that good。 I just found a lot of things awkward and unnatural。 First， the MC's were suppossedly 17， but I think it would have suited more if they're in their mid to late 20's。 The heroine's inner voice felt mature， but I found her annoying and judgmental at times， like the part where she called the hero "not hot， not fierce， but soft" and when she got called out for it， she just shrugged it off？ This was after someone called the hero "weak"。 I didn't even read a part when she felt bad about it。 The hero was okay。 I actually wanted his POV because I just cared about him， but he just ended up like a manic pixie dream boy。 Side characters acted like caricatures。 We got told of their struggles， but there's just no showing。 They just talked about it for the most part。The story was all over the place， as if it doesn't know what it's going to be， how it's going to be written， and how many tropes are going to be incorporated。 It's so short that I don't think there was ever a plot？ The timeline， too， is also confusing。 It's not fast-paced。 It's rushed and inconsistent。 Like we jumped from one scene to another and it would state that a whole week had passed， but it didn't seem like it？ The contract stated 3 months and the hero is so worried of neglecting his duties， but just upped and left， and I don't even care how many weeks or months had passed before they went to Portugal。 The book even tried to delve into deep themes， but it felt forced， and the dialogues seemed something that was straight up from a Twitter thread or a Tumblr post。 The heroine had no internal struggles， just an epiphany that she needed to be better and to accept herself for who she is。 I just wanted to actually read her mind and get to know her， you know？ But all I got are dialogues that didn't make sense for the most part。 She only interacted with a family member from Brazil once， and that's not even the part when she had that epiphany。 Her relationship with fame and being a celebrity were actually handled just fine， but with her Brazilian roots （the real main conflict， thank God not the romance） — it just didn't deliver。 I wanted more。 I wanted more cultural representation and actual family interactions， but we got more than 70% of the heroine struggling how she felt for the hero。 Other things that were okay was her relationship with her two friends。 Now that was consistent。 。。。more
