I'd give this a 5 star just because Ranpo! I don't know where to start。。。 i kinda love the backstory of Atsushi's entrance exam。 And how Kunikida still plans everything to the tea, but then Dazai is still one step ahead of him。 (Poor kunikida)。 The main part of the story is Ranpo, and how Fukuzawa build the Armed Detective Agency around him。 Ranpo was so cute in this, in the anime, he's already an adult but still acts like a kid。 But here, he's literally just a kid and it made me smile just imag I'd give this a 5 star just because Ranpo! Maybe I'm just biased since Bungou Stray Dogs is my favorite anime, but I really loved this light novel so much。 Especially that chaotic energy radiating off of nearly every page in the first section。 10/10 would recommend。 Maybe I'm just biased since Bungou Stray Dogs is my favorite anime, but I really loved this light novel so much。 Especially that chaotic energy radiating off of nearly every page in the first section。 10/10 would recommend。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 What better father/son content than a stoic asocial middle aged man trained in martial arts and an obnoxious naive fifteen year old who can see through everything? Wishing Fukuzawa a very happy belated Father’s Day 🥺 Also so glad this was written。 Haven’t yet read the first 53 chapters of BSD but both of them are tragically underutilized in the anime and it makes no sense why! I hope they cover this backstory at some point in season 4。

I love love loved this one, it was my favourite bsd light novel so far (maybe the fact that it's the only one I knew completely nothing about before reading might be a factor but。。。)The "lone stoic man unintentionally adopts a kid" type of stories never fail to tug at my heartstrings。 I totally weeped at the end and my love for Fukuzawa and Ranpo grew by a thousand times :') I love love loved this one, it was my favourite bsd light novel so far (maybe the fact that it's the only one I knew completely nothing about before reading might be a factor but。。。)The "lone stoic man unintentionally adopts a kid" type of stories never fail to tug at my heartstrings。 I totally weeped at the end and my love for Fukuzawa and Ranpo grew by a thousand times :') 。。。more

I loved this one, I think it's my favorite so far!!! I didn't think I would be as obsessed as I am with little Ranpo's beginnings with Fukuzawa, but it was so good。 And I can't even be mad at bringing up by Oda sadness again just for how good the story was (Oda's curry *crying*)。 This light novel really made me love Ranpo even more with seeing how difficult it was for him being literally the smartest in the room, he just felt like nobody understood him!! Isn't his skill literally enhancing other people's skills? I'm sure this has been answered but it just got me wondering。 This book is my fav so far!! Now onto 55 minutes。 。。。more

So。。。I read this light novel but accidently marked another as read *awkward laugh*Anyways, there was no way I could rate this less than 5 stars! I watched I want to eat your pancreas right before it and I was honestly crying at the end but I loved A Silent Voice moreComing back to the review lolThere were two short stories in this book so my review will be divided into the respective parts:PART 1 The first part was about the day right before Atsushi's entrance exam。 I loved the dynamic between Kunnikida and ❤Dazai❤。 Honestly, Dazai is me in group projects XDI also loved how Dazai totally flipped the table (metaphorically lol) at the end and I was actually smiling at that point。PART 2The second part was about Fukuzawa and Ranpo meeting for the first time and it was really hilarious at times。 They are both kinda underrated characters and I loved reading about them。 The story was not in first person but it focussed more on Fukuzawa's viewpoint and I loved reading it。 I loved how Fukuzawa became a paternal figure for Ranpo and also Odasaku makes a appearance too!! Honestly whenever I think about Odasaku my brain automatically plays that part of season 2 where Dazai yells 'Odasaku!'I loved reading about the mystery and I was totally glued to the book (the e-book to be precise) and that part where Fukuzawa gives Ranpo those glasses had me snickering。In the manga and the anime we are used to seeing Fukuzawa as a strict and serious president of the agency so I think this novel definately added to his character and it was fun reading his internal thoughts when he was with Ranpo。Also there's no romance in this book so it was very fresh to read and hilarious at times。 I absolutely loved it and if you love Bungou Stray Dogs then you should definately read this。 。。。more

I thought this was pretty good。The first story doesn’t seem like it should even be real。 Dazai apparently causes so much stress in Kunikida’s life that the latter passes out from anger just at hearing the former’s name。 And that whole bit where Kunikida’s plan on Atsushi’s entrance exam was torturing Dazai made me actually laugh。 Yosano was great as well。The Tanizaki sibling’s interactions, though, were extremely uncomfortable。 At one point there were a few paragraphs that could easily be submit I thought this was pretty good。The first story doesn’t seem like it should even be real。 Dazai apparently causes so much stress in Kunikida’s life that the latter passes out from anger just at hearing the former’s name。 And that whole bit where Kunikida’s plan on Atsushi’s entrance exam was torturing Dazai made me actually laugh。 Yosano was great as well。The Tanizaki sibling’s interactions, though, were extremely uncomfortable。 At one point there were a few paragraphs that could easily be submitted to r/menwritingwomen。 But, otherwise, the first story was very nice。The second one was also very interesting。 I liked seeing Fukuzawa’s perspective on things, and I thought that Ranpo’s backstory was interesting。 The mystery was fun to witness, and I was able to predict most of the events, but not the executions or purposes。 Ranpo really is the embodiment of gifted kid burnout。I am a bit confused on the timeline, though。 It was obvious early on that Natsume was the man in the theater, but Fukuzawa seemingly didn’t recognize him。 I thought Natsume mentored him and Mori before the events of the novel? And when did the whole cafe scene happen, when Oda received the book from Natsume in the previous light novel? The timeline is kind of confusing。 Each of these novels answers so many questions and yet also leaves me with so many more。 。。。more

There are two stories here: in the first, straight-laced Kunikda pits his will and wits against Dazai, even knowing just how scary-intelligent the mischief maker is。 It's always fun to see these two friends-despite-their-differences go at it。The second story is about the origin of the Armed Detective Agency, and shows us how Fukuzawa met Ranpo and recognized the kid's alarming genius。 I loved getting a look at these two back in the day, and watching Fukuzawa try to help Ranpo put that genius to There are two stories here: in the first, straight-laced Kunikda pits his will and wits against Dazai, even knowing just how scary-intelligent the mischief maker is。 It's always fun to see these two friends-despite-their-differences go at it。The second story is about the origin of the Armed Detective Agency, and shows us how Fukuzawa met Ranpo and recognized the kid's alarming genius。 I loved getting a look at these two back in the day, and watching Fukuzawa try to help Ranpo put that genius to good use。Here's hoping we get these stories--especially the second one--as flash-back arcs in the anime someday! 。。。more

Not exactly what I was expecting the book to be about, but it was interesting to learn how Ranpo and Fukuzawa met。 As well, I loved the murder mystery aspect of the book。 Essentially, not what I was expecting for the origins of the ADA but I still liked it and would recommend it to anyone who watches the anime or reads the manga。

I really liked it! There are two stories in this book。 The first story is shorter than the second one and I don't have much to critise, except that I missed some subchapters。 There were not even one subchapter。-- The rest of my review could be spoiler-ish because it includes some quotes。 --The first (funny) story is about the night before Atsushi Nakajima joined the Armed Detective Agency。 There was on quote about Dazai I really liked and which made me laugh: "Tanizaki instinctively looked over I really liked it! Moreover, the second part gives us information about their past and struggles, it hurt my heart, BUT IT WAS SO GOOD, I was really absorbed and the character development was great。 It explains how they end up as we know them in the present/ in the manga and anime。At one point Fukuzawa thought: "Detectives needed to be armed" and those words made me happy because as a reader we know that there will be an Armed Detective Agency in the future, even though he didn't knew it at that point。 。。。more

Ranpo often feels underused in the main series, as does Fukuzawa, which makes this volume focusing on them especially nice。

It was an enjoyable read。 I wished I remembered the characters, from the previous novels better。 The First part the preamble set up a very nice little story, I think, I will have to wait until the next volume to find out what happens。 The Main story, how the detective agency was founded was interesting。 It should of had chapters or at least part 1-part 2 etc。 As usual with stories involving great detectives the crime is overly complex, and probalby not something that would ever work in real life It was an enjoyable read。 I wished I remembered the characters, from the previous novels better。 The First part the preamble set up a very nice little story, I think, I will have to wait until the next volume to find out what happens。 The Main story, how the detective agency was founded was interesting。 It should of had chapters or at least part 1-part 2 etc。 As usual with stories involving great detectives the crime is overly complex, and probalby not something that would ever work in real life。 But it was great to see how the crime was solved and the aftermath。 。。。more
