Summary

Sleep Smarter is a fun and entertaining look at how sleep impacts your mind, body, and performance, without skimping on the "how to's" to get the sleep you really deserve。

Whether you've struggled with sleep problems, or you're simply interested in living a longer, healthier life, you're going to be blown away with what you learn。 Here's just a sampling of what you're going to discover:
Why you need to sleep more and exercise less to get the best fitness results。  How to feel more energized and refreshed on less hours of sleep。  Why poor sleep quality depresses brain function and leads to poor performance。  What supplements are safe and helpful, and which ones to avoid (this will shock you!)  What exercises you can do to instantly improve your sleep quality。  How the clothes you wear to bed can depress your hormone function。  Why sleep is the missing ingredient in long-term fat loss (clinically proven!)  Why going to bed at the right time is more important than how many hours you sleep。  What mineral deficiency can cause severe sleep problems (and how to fix it)。  The surprising impact that intimacy has on your sleep quality。  How to calm your mind so that you can fall asleep faster。  This and much more inside, so open the book and begin to Sleep Smarter now!

Lemme tell you something about this book。 Read it。 I googled the doctor who wrote the book and he is smokin hot。 obviously this guy is a sleep doctor because girls around the world are dreaming about him。 I only became interested in what this author looked like because he had such a cool vibe throughout the entire book, then on page 210 I thought to myself “I wonder what this guy looks like? no way he is as hot as he sounds in print。” Low and behold。 i was wrong。

This is a practically helpful and accessible book。 It has great tips and a lot of information。 The author is likable and relatable。 There weren't a lot of new things that I learned, but there were some and it was a good reminder/got me thinking more seriously about some things I already know。 I would recommend the book, but would advise taking what is useful to you and ignoring the rest。 There some chapters I skipped over because they didn't apply to me and some ideas that I wasn't as interested This is a practically helpful and accessible book。 It has great tips and a lot of information。 The author is likable and relatable。 There weren't a lot of new things that I learned, but there were some and it was a good reminder/got me thinking more seriously about some things I already know。 I would recommend the book, but would advise taking what is useful to you and ignoring the rest。 There some chapters I skipped over because they didn't apply to me and some ideas that I wasn't as interested in。 。。。more

A decent book that sparked my interest in sleep。 Had lots of tangible action steps to take。 The writing felt a bit elementary and cheesy at times, hence the 3 stars。

Turbūt labiausiai miego vertę suprantame tapę tėvais, kai pradeda trūkti kokybiško miego。 "Išsimiegosiu, kai pasensiu" – kartais tenka girdėti tokį posakį, tačiau jis yra klaidingas, nes tuomet gali būti per vėlu。 Knygoje "Miego menas", autorius kviečia pažvelgti į miegą ne tik kaip fiziologinį reiškinį, bet ir kaip į pagrindinį puikios sveikatos šaltinį。 "Nėra tokios protinės, emocinės ar fizinės srities, kurios neveiktų miego kokybė。"Miegas daug labiau įtakoja mūsų gyvenimo kokybę, nei galvoja Turbūt labiausiai miego vertę suprantame tapę tėvais, kai pradeda trūkti kokybiško miego。 "Išsimiegosiu, kai pasensiu" – kartais tenka girdėti tokį posakį, tačiau jis yra klaidingas, nes tuomet gali būti per vėlu。 Knygoje "Miego menas", autorius kviečia pažvelgti į miegą ne tik kaip fiziologinį reiškinį, bet ir kaip į pagrindinį puikios sveikatos šaltinį。 "Nėra tokios protinės, emocinės ar fizinės srities, kurios neveiktų miego kokybė。"Miegas daug labiau įtakoja mūsų gyvenimo kokybę, nei galvojame, nors dažnai į jį nuomojame ranka。 Geras ir kokybiškas miegas yra būtinybė, o ne prabanga。 Antsvoris, nusilpęs imunitetas, cukrinis diabetas, onkologinės ligos, depresija, senėjimas – tai tik nedidelė dalis sveikatos sutrikimų, kuriuos lemia miego kokybė。 Knygoje pateiktos 21 miego kokybės gerinimo strategijos, kurios yra ganėtinai paprastos, lengvai pritaikomos ir holistinės。 Glaustai paminėta kvėpavimas, akupunktūra, masažas, akupresūra, įsižeminimas, emocinė laisvės technika ir kitos priemonės。 Kadangi jau senokai domiuosi sveiku gyvenimo būdu, tai dauguma knygoje paminėtų dalykų man jau buvo žinomi。 Tačiau radau ir puikių naujų patarimų, kuriuos pritaikysiu kasdienybėje ir dar labiau pagerinsiu savo miego kokybę。Shawn Stevenson, knygos autorius, anksčiau turėjo rimtų sveikatos problemų, tačiau atsisakė vaistų ir pasveiko pakeitęs mitybą, įpročius ir gyvenimo būdą。 Jo istorija išties motyvuoja, todėl ši knyga, nors paremta įvairiais tyrimais, yra labai lengvai skaitoma ir įkvepianti。 Taip pat, mano nuomone, ji labai tinkama dovanoti sau ar artimam žmogui, nes pabaigoje yra 14 parų planas, kuris padeda įvertinti pokyčius miego srityje。Geras miegas neatsiejamas nuo geros sveikatos ir sveiko gyvenimo būdo, kas dar kartą patvirtina, jog mūsų organizme viskas yra susiję: emocinė būsena, fizinė būklė, mityba, aktyvumas, cirkadiniai ritmai ir t。t。 Todėl norint "pataisyti" miegą, neužtenka išgerti tabletę, o reikia keisti įpročius kurie tam trukdo, ir ši knyga yra puikus kelrodis ir informacijos šaltinis。Daugiau atsiliepimų apie knygos: www。profesionalimama。wordpress。com 。。。more

I really appreciated the short, digestible chapters with specific, concrete tips。 While much of what I'd read was familiar to me, there were several new things as well and I'm excited to get a better night's sleep。 I really appreciated the short, digestible chapters with specific, concrete tips。 While much of what I'd read was familiar to me, there were several new things as well and I'm excited to get a better night's sleep。 。。。more

I read this book when I was desperate to find a way to sleep better。 I thought that was the reason behind my daily lack of energy。 This book outlines a super strict sleep regimen that I followed for a while。 The main issue here is that the majority of this book ranges from borderline psuedo science to insanity。 Once I stopped following its guidelines I felt happier thus increasing my energy stores。 Definitely skip this one and look into whether you might have sleep apnea and/or depression instea I read this book when I was desperate to find a way to sleep better。 I thought that was the reason behind my daily lack of energy。 This book outlines a super strict sleep regimen that I followed for a while。 The main issue here is that the majority of this book ranges from borderline psuedo science to insanity。 Once I stopped following its guidelines I felt happier thus increasing my energy stores。 Definitely skip this one and look into whether you might have sleep apnea and/or depression instead。 。。。more

I am anxious to apply all of these suggestions and see how things improve。 My first change was the stupid phone next to my bed。 I thought it would be a problem, but it has been nothing but refreshing and invigorating。

My 2nd book about how to sleep better and yes, that’s how obsessed I am with sleep simply because I truly believe good sleep equals good life。 When you are well rested, you are more present and effective。 I know many may not have the luxury to prioritize sleep, but we should when we can。 You gotta take good care of yourself before you can take care of people around you。Compared to ‘Why We Sleep by Mathew Walker, PhD’, this book is no where near the depth。 I personally prefer Why We Sleep, but Sl My 2nd book about how to sleep better and yes, that’s how obsessed I am with sleep simply because I truly believe good sleep equals good life。 When you are well rested, you are more present and effective。 I know many may not have the luxury to prioritize sleep, but we should when we can。 You gotta take good care of yourself before you can take care of people around you。Compared to ‘Why We Sleep by Mathew Walker, PhD’, this book is no where near the depth。 I personally prefer Why We Sleep, but Sleep Smarter is much more easier to read and gives you many practical tips to action on。 If you just want to get a quick overview on ways to improve sleep, this is the book。 。。。more

This was okay。 I’ve tried a few strategies but he does recommended a few things as fact that the scientific literature is mixed on (eating late being fine as long as one’s caloric intake is the same as one example)。

Full of pseudoscience and alarming “facts”。 There are some good things sprinkled on top, but you need to get past the heteronormative, ableist, fatphobic crap first。 No room for delayed circadian rhythms here! Just telling everyone they should all go to bed at 10 and be up at 6。 Saved the “best” till last though: you fall asleep better on holiday because of the earth’s magnetic field and being barefoot on the beach。 It’s nothing to do with finally being able to relax and being exhausted from liv Full of pseudoscience and alarming “facts”。 There are some good things sprinkled on top, but you need to get past the heteronormative, ableist, fatphobic crap first。 No room for delayed circadian rhythms here! Sleep deprivation is probably what's making you crazy, or miserable, or both。 Stevenson wheels out the usual old chestnuts of an isolated ascetic cell of a bedroom utilized only for unconsciousness and sex, no screens for infinity hours before bed, wear ridiculous wraparound blue-light blockers, but he supplements the factory-standard sleep wisdom with applicable nutritional information。 Almost as though the body and brain are one interconnected organism and the things we do in one sphere bleed Sleep deprivation is probably what's making you crazy, or miserable, or both。 Stevenson wheels out the usual old chestnuts of an isolated ascetic cell of a bedroom utilized only for unconsciousness and sex, no screens for infinity hours before bed, wear ridiculous wraparound blue-light blockers, but he supplements the factory-standard sleep wisdom with applicable nutritional information。 Almost as though the body and brain are one interconnected organism and the things we do in one sphere bleed over into all the others。If you've read Why We Sleep, you've heard most of this already, though Stevenson ranged out into the esoteric toward the end with his electromagnetic barefoot "earth grounding" Mesmerism stuff。 Decalcify your foot ions for a restful slumber and bountiful pineal neurogenesis。 Sure, Jan。Good topic, good science, good message。 Two stars off for his unbearable, targeted middle-aged woman humor。 Someone told him to write jokes to make this more readable, and that turned out to be a mistake。 。。。more

Nothing new。 I turned this book into a checklist, as a quick reminder of good sleep strategies。 Most of the recommendations are obvious or have been covered in more depth by other books。 If your new to learning about sleep science or have sleep issues this might be a good intro read。

I listened to the audio book and I found that he referenced a lot of the more believable science by name, but was then vague about more controversial science。 Instead of naming the scientist or institution behind the research, he would say, "a study was done" or "scientists have found。" This was profoundly frustrating when trying to figure out the specifics of each study。 I couldn't find a bibliography online either。 I listened to the audio book and I found that he referenced a lot of the more believable science by name, but was then vague about more controversial science。 Instead of naming the scientist or institution behind the research, he would say, "a study was done" or "scientists have found。" This was profoundly frustrating when trying to figure out the specifics of each study。 I couldn't find a bibliography online either。 。。。more
