Summary

Coming off of the wedding of the century to Batman, Selina Kyle stars in an all-new solo series written and illustrated by Eisner Award nominee Joëlle Jones!

The wedding night's barely over, but Catwoman's back on the streets, this time to expose a copycat who's pulling heists around Gotham City。 As Selina cracks the whip on her former criminal cohorts, she's attracting unwanted attention from one of Gotham's most dangerous groups。 The mob? Nope。 Try the GCPD。 And as if the Bat-Bride didn't have enough problems, don't miss the debut of an all-new villain determined to make trouble for all nine of Selina's lives。

Fresh off of her run on Batman with superstar writer Tom King, creator Joëlle Jones writes and illustrates this dynamic new series。 Collects issues #1-6。

God I love Joëlle Jones's art so much。 And while the story here isn't breathtaking, it's wonderfully noiry with an evil matriarch who runs a city by exerting control over her husband and sons。 God I love Joëlle Jones's art so much。 And while the story here isn't breathtaking, it's wonderfully noiry with an evil matriarch who runs a city by exerting control over her husband and sons。 。。。more

Joelle Jones picks up writing and art duties on a post marriage Catwoman。 What I liked - The art is solid throughout this first collection。 Joelle Jones draws a very sexy Catwoman that isn’t a walking boob/ butt machine。 The face is somewhat of a callback to Adam Hughes’ infamous covers with a likeness to Audrey Hepburn。 The story is decent enough with Catwoman leaving Gotham and attempting to start over but as always that’s not simple。 What I disliked - Jones’ art is great and seemingly pulling Joelle Jones picks up writing and art duties on a post marriage Catwoman。 What I liked - The art is solid throughout this first collection。 Joelle Jones draws a very sexy Catwoman that isn’t a walking boob/ butt machine。 The face is somewhat of a callback to Adam Hughes’ infamous covers with a likeness to Audrey Hepburn。 The story is decent enough with Catwoman leaving Gotham and attempting to start over but as always that’s not simple。 What I disliked - Jones’ art is great and seemingly pulling double duty is a bit much for her as there’s another artist featured less than 6 issues in。 This isn’t a bad thing but a big hook is Jones’ art。 3/5。 。。。more

Good story。 Great artwork

I was hoping this would be sorta-fun like the New 52 series, but it’s mostly just blah crime stuff。 Not sure what’s going on with Catwoman’s armpit-window outfit but it’s not a good look。

Joelle Jones is just fabulous。 She tells an engaging story。 Her illustrations are divine。 I loved Lady Killer and subscribed to DCUI simply so I could read this (ok and Bombshells) and I am not disappointed。

3。5 - nearly a 4。 :-) I picked this up as I love Joelle's art and also love Ram V who writes some of the later volumes。I didn't know what to expect。 Fair to say, expectations were low (Almost every time I dip into the big 2 publishers I end up asking myself why) but - happy days! Solid stuff。 Better than I thought。The art gives this the great sumptuous, noirish feel I enjoyed in Lady Killer and You Have Killed Me。 Found myself rooting for Selena early on and the baddies' shenanigans were icky an 3。5 - nearly a 4。 :-) I picked this up as I love Joelle's art and also love Ram V who writes some of the later volumes。I didn't know what to expect。 Fair to say, expectations were low (Almost every time I dip into the big 2 publishers I end up asking myself why) but - happy days! I originally picked this volume up for my book club, but didn’t attend the discussion。 I always wanted to get started with the Catwoman series, and this was a good reason to read it。 But, I’m left feeling kind of flat。 First of all, I am tired of the ‘ugly old woman is an evil witch’ trope。 The main villain is intentionally drawn as being hideous on the inside and out。 I am honestly surprised she wasn’t drawn as plus size too, to drive home the point that only the conventional and extremely narr I originally picked this volume up for my book club, but didn’t attend the discussion。 I always wanted to get started with the Catwoman series, and this was a good reason to read it。 But, I’m left feeling kind of flat。 First of all, I am tired of the ‘ugly old woman is an evil witch’ trope。 The main villain is intentionally drawn as being hideous on the inside and out。 I am honestly surprised she wasn’t drawn as plus size too, to drive home the point that only the conventional and extremely narrow idea of beautiful = good。 Noticeably, there are absolutely no fat characters in this book at all。 Talk about erasure。 So, not a good start!Cat herself isn’t given all that much personality because she’s really just surviving and struggling。 Pretty much every story cliche is in here—identity theft, disabled family member, sad break up, no friends in sight。 Oh, let’s not forget the abusive father。 It was all so tedious。 [SPOILER ALERT]Ok, the whole aside about the sister and Black Mask, what are we supposed to make of that? Like seriously? Did Roman feed the sister her husband’s eye ball? Why are they so vague! I don’t want graphic details, but that whole section just felt out of sync with the main story, and felt like a gratuitous aside。 It is so typical of DC Comics to add in some life changing event and treat it like a plot point instead of dealing with it。 [END SPOILER]Look, I have said this many times before, comic books are very unoriginal。 They’ll use the same story beats and the same storylines over and again。 The only changes are the characters used。 I really felt like that with this book。 In all honesty, I got Halle Berry’s Catwoman film vibes from this story, which is not a comparison the book creators would have wanted to hear。 So let’s talk about the art。 It’s beautiful, but way too angular。 My problem isn’t that Cat is drawn to be svelte and sexy, my problem is that when it comes to comics, only characters who look like Cat are drawn like that。 And only female characters are drawn like that。 And no, the two and a half panels of Nightwing’s statuesque derrière in the past 80 years don’t count。 He isn’t primarily drawn to be beautiful and desirable, that’s an unintended side effect of writing a character who is often a good person。 So, all in all, read this volume because the art is beautiful and we all love Cat。 But this does nothing new。 。。。more

A super quick and fun read! The story is nothing to crazy but you quickly forget that as you flip through pages and pages of amazing artwork, colors (thanks to Laura Allred), and panel layouts though the first 6 issues of Joelle Jones' run。 A super quick and fun read! Catwoman is beautifully illustrated by writer Joëlle Jones, whose story, unfortunately, does not really stay or impress。 The story seems both longer, with an ending that seems sudden and inconclusive without a real resolution。 I don't know if its the format 6 issue storylines that can only feature on story for the bookstore graphic novel market。 As I reader I enjoyed the art, but no sure if I will continue because of the story。 Catwoman is beautifully illustrated by writer Joëlle Jones, whose story, unfortunately, does not really stay or impress。 The story seems both longer, with an ending that seems sudden and inconclusive without a real resolution。 I don't know if its the format 6 issue storylines that can only feature on story for the bookstore graphic novel market。 As I reader I enjoyed the art, but no sure if I will continue because of the story。 。。。more

I love Joelle Jones and have for a long time (shout out to 13 reasons why I love her) and that is enough for me to read practically any book。 I had not kept up with the Bat Books when I read this, but it was an acceptable starting place and I didn't feel particularly lost。 As always the art is fantastic。 I love Joelle Jones and have for a long time (shout out to 13 reasons why I love her) and that is enough for me to read practically any book。 I had not kept up with the Bat Books when I read this, but it was an acceptable starting place and I didn't feel particularly lost。 As always the art is fantastic。 。。。more

I love Joelle Jones -- she's a powerhouse in noir-esque comics with female leads。 And, yeah the art is just what I've come to expect from her。 The sharp, expressive lines, the action so well choreographed the reader is never lost in it; this is what makes a Joelle Jones comic sparkle。 Yet, the plot left me unsatisfied。 There are still many questions unanswered。 And this I've also come to expect from a Joelle Jones。 She likes a good mystery。 I wish for this book the questions I had on the first p I love Joelle Jones -- she's a powerhouse in noir-esque comics with female leads。 And, yeah the art is just what I've come to expect from her。 The sharp, expressive lines, the action so well choreographed the reader is never lost in it; this is what makes a Joelle Jones comic sparkle。 Yet, the plot left me unsatisfied。 There are still many questions unanswered。 And this I've also come to expect from a Joelle Jones。 She likes a good mystery。 I wish for this book the questions I had on the first page weren't the same ones I had on the last。 Looking forward to reading the rest of the series nonetheless。 。。。more

I devoured this。 Felt so good to be back with Selina and see what happened after the wedding that never was。 Joelle Jones has breathed new life into the series and I can’t wait to see what happens next。 Loved the addition of her landlords and seeing Maggie again。 This played out like a movie in my head thanks to the story pacing and the awesome artwork。 So good!

Spinning right out of the tumultuous Batman/Catwoman wedding, Selina Kyle decides to take a break from Gotham and spend some time in Villa Hermosa to take her mind off things and of course gets caught in the middle of some criminal shit involving crooked cops, a crime family, and their creepy-ass matriarch。 This first volume of Joelle Jones's run on one of my favorite comic book characters is a fun start, led by Jones's sharp, contrasty artwork, and her noir-infused writing, which has always Spinning right out of the tumultuous Batman/Catwoman wedding, Selina Kyle decides to take a break from Gotham and spend some time in Villa Hermosa to take her mind off things and of course gets caught in the middle of some criminal shit involving crooked cops, a crime family, and their creepy-ass matriarch。 This first volume of Joelle Jones's run on one of my favorite comic book characters is a fun start, led by Jones's sharp, contrasty artwork, and her noir-infused writing, which has always been the best way to approach the character。 And the reveal of the real reason why Selina is in Villa Hermosa really grounds the tale in character and emotion。 。。。more

I’m a Joëlle Jones fanboy, for sure。 And I’ve recently gotten into Catwoman as a character。 The story jumped around a fair bit, and at times felt a little chaotic, but I’m so hyped I’m gonna take it as foreshadowing。

This is a weird one。 I got the first couple issues and read them and was really excited about this run。 Joelle Jones's art is beautiful, and her design for Catwoman's suit is really interesting, taking some of her best looks and adding some high-fashion to it。 Her depiction of the villain in issue one is really effectively chilling。 Then, I decided to trade wait and got back to the book。。。 and I'm sad to say the first volume kind of falls apart。First of all, there isn't much of a story here? This is one of those instances where I might bump up my rating after I read future volumes, but there just isn't a lot to this book。 There's some interesting set-up of new villains, but it's almost all squandered and resolved by the end of the first arc。 There's a death that's supposed to be dramatic but wasn't set up very well。 And, perhaps most frustrating, the intriguing set-up and name has a pretty weak resolution that feels more like a concept that Jones didn't know what to do with versus a fleshed out story。Now, there's still a lot to like here。 Don't get me wrong。 There's some great side characters I look forward to getting to know better。 The art and storytelling is top notch。 But I'm just missing some basic storytelling here。 Hopefully we'll get more in volume 2。 。。。more
