- Much too wordy for my taste (you’d think that after 100s of years of editing to appeal to different demographics they could have slimmed it down more)。 - Incredibly mistranslated (Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13) - Normally i’m a fan of speculative fiction but this all seems like a bit of a stretch even for me

This book feels like the authors were trying to pack too many narratives into a single book, which made it feel a bit disjointed (too many cooks)。 This made it hard to classify "The Holy Bible" as either biography, fantasy, or historical fiction。 The short story collection was a nice beach read, but bogged down by a ham-fisted moralism (see "The Shack") which made it hard to revisit。 Two stars。 This book feels like the authors were trying to pack too many narratives into a single book, which made it feel a bit disjointed (too many cooks)。 This made it hard to classify "The Holy Bible" as either biography, fantasy, or historical fiction。 The short story collection was a nice beach read, but bogged down by a ham-fisted moralism (see "The Shack") which made it hard to revisit。 Two stars。 。。。more

Did they expect they’d need to rebuild the things from the story at some point? I’m honestly quite confused。 Either way, thank god for the 1。75x speed feature on my audiobook app。 LEVITICUS⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/17/21 - 08/17/21] A massive anime filler episode。 It’s literally an entire book full of obscure rule recitations- mostly on the procedure for preventing plague and other diseases。 Maybe this was useful to people back then, but it doesn’t make for an entertaining read now。 Nothing happens to progress the actual story。 NUMBERS⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/17/21 - 08/18/21] More filler。 Names and statistics。 There’s a bit going on in the middle, but not enough to make this anything more than a slog。 DEUTERONOMY⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/18/21 - 08/19/21] More of the same。 Like reading a textbook。 Maybe I’m getting used to it now, or maybe the rules in this one were just more entertaining, but I didn’t find this as torturous to read as the last couple books。 I especially liked the law where a woman whose late husband’s brother refuses to marry her is allowed to ‘loose his shoe’ and spit on him。 All told, there are a few pretty major plot points that occur。 Shame they had to go down in such a dreary entry。 JOSHUA ⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/19/21 - 08/20/21] So you’re telling me that Joshua gets his own book of the Bible, but after all Moses did, across FOUR separate books, he doesn’t get a single one of those volumes named after him? 😤 Anyway, this one is mostly rote like the other recent ones。 It threatens to get interesting with some looming warfare, but that fizzles out。 JUDGES⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💭[08/20/21 - 08/21/21] Yeah baby! I sound like a 13-year-old boy for getting so excited about all the violence and gore, but mostly I’m just excited that ANYTHING happened。 Samson’s story is great, along with the lady who used the tent nail and hammer。 This one has was very entertaining。 Hoping for more like it。 RUTH⭐️⭐️⭐️💭💭[08/21/21 - 08/21/21] Nice short, self-contained entry。 Not too much goes down in the grand scheme, but it’s a more personal story。 And it also seems like it’s going to set up some pretty important stuff coming up in the canon。 So I’m excited。 FIRST SAMUEL⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️[08/21/21 - 08/22/21] This is the real juicy stuff right here。 David and Saul’s story has echoes of classic Greek heroes like Heracles or Jason, who are taken in and duped by their superiors。 The concept of Saul trying to get David killed by roundabout means, rather than doing it himself (even though he does sometimes try that too) definitely reminded me of the ridiculous lengths Greek leaders would go to in upholding the ‘guest-friendship’ of xenia。 Lots of great moments in this one。 The final scene with Saul and his squire was an amazing flourish。 Loved this book。 Hoping for more like it。 SECOND SAMUEL⭐️⭐️⭐️💭💭[08/22/21 - 08/22/21] Even though this continues David’s story, it’s a lot more muddled than the first part。 There’s definitely some fun intrigue here and there, but most of the time I had a hard time finding reasons to care about the characters。 FIRST KINGS⭐️⭐️⭐️💭💭[08/22/21 - 08/23/21] Solomon’s big moment of wisdom and subsequent life was interesting。 (Though I still don’t see why the one woman would have ever consented to cutting the baby in half。 No sane person would agree to cutting a baby in half, whether she’s the real mother or not。) The ensuing kingly chronicles were fleetingly interesting, but mostly felt like reading a textbook。 I certainly understand where Tolkien drew his inspiration for the Numenorian kings’ lineage in THE SILMARILLION though, because my problems with those parts are similar to my problems with this book of the Bible。 SECOND KINGS⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/23/21 - 08/23/21] Again, there are some good nuggets here but no story is ever given a change to really shine。 It mostly just feels disjointed, rather than sprawling。 FIRST CHRONICLES⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/23/21 - 08/24/21] Basically the Biblical equivalent of ‘Last Time on Dragon Ball Z,’ except if the recap was the length of an entire episode and filled with a bunch of inconsequential details like what Goku ate for lunch and every item on Bulma’s shopping list。 These types of entries are really trying my patience。 SECOND CHRONICLES⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/24/21 - 08/24/21] Some interesting events, but they’re never set up well enough to make the reader care about what happens。EZRA⭐️💭💭💭💭 [08/24/21 - 08/24/21] A lot of listed names。 Ugh。 I couldn’t tell you one interesting thing that happened in this。 NEHEMIAH⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/24/21 - 08/24/21] I feel like I’m going crazy at this point。 Did literally happen in this one, or am I just completely zoning out? ESTHER⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/24/21 - 08/25/21] There was some nice intrigue in here, but I already forgot about everything that happened。 JOB⭐️⭐️⭐️💭💭[08/25/21 - 08/26/21] Interesting as an exploration of morality, but it comes off more cruel than anything。 The rewards at the end are almost played off like they’re a suitable replacement for all the dead children that it took to get there。 I enjoyed the way this one was written though, sort of like a book of poetry。 Lots of musings on various aspects of the world。 It was also cool to have scenes where God himself is talking to Satan, like the Greek gods bickering on Mount Olympus about the Trojan War。 Overstays its welcome by the end, but definitely has a unique style。 PSALMS⭐️⭐️⭐️💭💭[08/26/21 - 08/28/21] Another book of poetry。 This one is more like a collection of love letters。 Some gorgeous language here, although some of the stuff seemed to condone warmongering, which rubbed the wrong way。 Otherwise really enjoyed, though I definitely could have lived with the whole thing being about half as long。 PROVERBS⭐️⭐️⭐️💭💭[08/28/21 - 08/28/21] As the name suggests, it’s a bunch of proverbs。 I thought it was interesting that they were written from all different perspectives, but I wasn’t able to really detect any differences between the viewpoints。 Essentially, it seemed like all the characters were sort of the same overarching writer。 Some really good bits in here, but it all gets pretty repetitive after a while。 ECCLESIASTES⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💭[08/28/21 - 08/28/21] Great lines in here。 I feel like I may be scoring this one higher just because I love The Byrds, but either way I enjoyed it a lot。 SOMG OF SOLOMON⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/28/21 - 08/29/21] There’s some nice stuff in here, but nothing really stuck out to me while reading。 ISAIAH⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/29/21 - 08/29/21] I might really be losing my grip, because I just read this and I don’t remember anything about it。 JEREMIAH⭐️⭐️⭐️💭💭[08/29/21 - 08/31/21] More political intrigue and heavenly smiting。 Hasn’t the point been made by now about the smiting? Like, we get it。 God doesn’t like when you disobey him。 All these stories are basically the same and I’m getting really tired of it。 LAMENTATIONS⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] Mercifully short, but ultimately didn’t say anything to me。 EZEKIEL ⭐️⭐️💭💭💭 [08/31/21 - 08/31/21] God is pissed at the humans again。 Who would have guessed? I liked some of the passages in here (especially because I’m a fan of PULP FICTION) but damn, how many times do we have to hear the same basic story play out? And to add insult to injury this one closes with one of those tedious DIY/lineage descriptions。 Ugh。 DANIEL⭐️⭐️💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] I already forgot everything about this one。 At least it didn’t have all those statistical readouts。 HOSEA⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] I didn’t even realize this one ended。 JOEL⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] In a strange twist, God is angry at the humans and spends the whole book threatening them。 Oh wait, that’s what happens EVERY TIME。 AMOS ⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] It feels like they’re really starving for interesting material to write about at this point。 It’s literally all the same stuff we’ve heard before。 OBADIAH⭐️💭💭💭💭 [08/31/21 - 08/31/21] Uhh why is this one its own book? MICAH⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] I can’t see a justification for any of these later books to be here, purely from a storytelling perspective。 It’s all just the same thing over and over again。 I love how these characters describe god as being “slow to anger” though haha NAHUM⭐️💭💭💭💭 [08/31/21 - 08/31/21] Uhhh what was this one again? Must not have made much of an impression。 HABAKKUK⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] Man, I forgot what happened in this one too。 Maybe I’m just completely checking out at this point 🤷‍♂️ ZEPHANIAH⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] I mean, it’s not just me right? Nothing is happening in these later booksHANNAI⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 08/31/21] 😴 ZECHARIAH⭐️💭💭💭💭[08/31/21 - 09/01/21] Is it over yet? MALACHI⭐️💭💭💭💭[09/01/21 - 09/01/21] MAN this overall collection was tough to get through at the end。 Just an endless stream of the same stuff over and over again。 At least this book was the last one。 。。。more

These reviews make me laugh, and I’m Christian lol。 Anyway the Bible is definitely a tedious piece of writing and I’ve only made it past “and on the seventh day”However happy reading 📖

It's a decent work of fiction, I suppose。 But the problem is that there's too many characters and it's difficult to follow the plot - gets confusing after a point。 Towards the latter half of the book, it just gets a bit preachy and annoying。 It's a decent work of fiction, I suppose。 But the problem is that there's too many characters and it's difficult to follow the plot - gets confusing after a point。 Towards the latter half of the book, it just gets a bit preachy and annoying。 。。。more

This is some really good quality fan fiction。 My favorite part is when God sacrificed Himself to Himself to save us from Himself because of a rule He made Himself。

Good plot

Mmmmm main themes are a little antiquated and not a very diverse set of characters especially for the setting。 Was definitely pressured into reading it because of the crazy fandom and Stan army。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Pretty good piece of fiction but there were quite a lot of plot holes, would probably more like to see a sequel where Jesus continues with the rapture while he and Lucifer gather their own groups of follower and they all fight in a huge battle that rages on for hundreds if not thousands of years。Idk why this says nonfiction though, seems Science Fiction to me。

Whether you are an atheist, Christian, or an academic - the Bible in all of its glory can offer an impeccable read。 You can even consider it a literary masterpiece。 Religious or not, one must read this at least once in their lives。

It's a Bible。 How can you not like it? I don't have the antipathy to the NKJV that some have。 This particular Bible is also special because it was given to me by former students who wrote messages and reminders to me in the journaling margins。 It's a Bible。 How can you not like it?
