I want to thank the publisher for rewarding me with an ARC of this book。Eve Dallas is called to a crime scene on a construction site in New York。 A homeless woman is found dead in a dumpster。 While Eve is still attending the scene， another body is found a few blocks away walled in the bottom of a building recently purchased and renovated by Roarke。 The body was nothing more than bones but also contained the bones of a fetus。 Eve takes on both cases with the one involving the homeless woman takin I want to thank the publisher for rewarding me with an ARC of this book。Eve Dallas is called to a crime scene on a construction site in New York。 A homeless woman is found dead in a dumpster。 While Eve is still attending the scene， another body is found a few blocks away walled in the bottom of a building recently purchased and renovated by Roarke。 The body was nothing more than bones but also contained the bones of a fetus。 Eve takes on both cases with the one involving the homeless woman taking precedence。 The investigation takes Eve and her team to a local plumber who is found hanging in what looks like a suicide， but it is quickly determined to be another murder。Forgotten In Death is another good entry in the In Death series。 This book has almost too much in it due to the number of bodies and suspects that must be investigated， causing the need for lots of exposition， which unfortunately isn't balanced with the amount of action。 In addition， Eve and Roarke are again confronted with their childhood abuse， bringing back unwanted memories， however the emotional impact on them is minimal compared to previous experiences， and it also spurs them on during the investigation。 We are again rewarded with glimpses into the private life of the two characters， but with so much plot in this story， there really isn't much time to include more than just a few peeks into their private lives。 Overall， Forgotten in Death is a multi-layered story that leaves the reader with a satisfying conclusion。 。。。more

Thank you， St。 Martin's Press for the ARC！ This 53rd edition to the In Death series is abso-amazing。 Nora Roberts/JD Robb is the best at what she does。 From start to finish; she grabs ahold of the reader and pulls you into the story。 It has mystery， action， romance， and of course the hottest scenes between Roarke and Eve that only JD can create。 I was very impressed with how Eve and Peabody worked on not one case but two during this story。 I also liked seeing all the main characters being presen Thank you， St。 Martin's Press for the ARC！ This 53rd edition to the In Death series is abso-amazing。 Nora Roberts/JD Robb is the best at what she does。 From start to finish; she grabs ahold of the reader and pulls you into the story。 It has mystery， action， romance， and of course the hottest scenes between Roarke and Eve that only JD can create。 I was very impressed with how Eve and Peabody worked on not one case but two during this story。 I also liked seeing all the main characters being present。 Even though I was on number 48 doing a re-read on this series when I received this book; I was able to read this on in one day as well as continue my re-read。 （I was determined to finish all 52 books before this one was released and I will）。 I recommend this one for everyone to read even if they have never read any book in this series before。 。。。more

Even the investigations of crimes at New York City building sites are interesting when J。D。 Robb writes about them。 Forgotten in Death， the 53rd book in the Eve Dallas series is a riveting story that kept me up until I finished it。 Homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas isn’t going to let victims be forgotten， not on her watch。Three corpses in two closely connected building sites？ When a construction crew at a Singer construction site find a body stuffed in a dumpster， they call the police。 Once Eve rep Even the investigations of crimes at New York City building sites are interesting when J。D。 Robb writes about them。 Forgotten in Death， the 53rd book in the Eve Dallas series is a riveting story that kept me up until I finished it。 Homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas isn’t going to let victims be forgotten， not on her watch。Three corpses in two closely connected building sites？ When a construction crew at a Singer construction site find a body stuffed in a dumpster， they call the police。 Once Eve reports to the scene and unwraps the body， the two beat cops recognize the dead woman。 They call her CC for Concerned Citizen because the woman， a “sidewalk sleeper” does have rules。 If anyone violates the rules such as littering， she writes their violation down in her little book。 She’s known for making origami flowers and animals out of trash， and giving them away。 But， it will take Eve， a team of police， and Eve’s husband， Roarke， to identify the woman and discover her story。 It’s a story that breaks Eve’s heart because she identifies with some of the woman’s past。Dallas doesn’t even get to leave the area before she’s called to another construction site， this time on property owned by Roarke。 There are two victims there， victims that had buried there for years， a young woman who was possibly pregnant with the fetus that is in the hole with her。 And， Dallas will use all the resources of the police department， and her husband’s computer skills to find the killers of her three victims。 Eve Dallas will always stand for the victims。And， victims pile up。 Eve and Roarke are on the scene immediately after another murder。 It’s an investigation that will lead to shady deals in the construction industry， family stories， and into the past。 Eve， her team， and her husband will put in long hours to find the truth。I never like to reveal spoilers， and I certainly won’t for one of J。D。 Robb’s books。 So， I’m going to discuss an essential element of the series， and one that is stressed in this novel。 It’s the concept of home。 Forgotten in Death is a story of contrasts。 It starts with a victim who lives on the streets and has no home。 It’s Eve’s job to learn why she’s living there。 What home did she flee？ Eve’s friends， including her partner， Detective Peabody， are boring Eve to death as they discuss every aspect of the remodeling of their new home。 In the Singer construction family， there’s quite a contrast between the homes of family members。 And， then there’s Roarke and Eve’s home。 It’s their refuge， the place they can both turn to at the end of the day to escape their jobs。 But， the true reason it’s home for them is that the other person is there。 That means home。 As you read this book， you recognize the safety， the security， the love they share that makes their home。Forgotten in Death is a solid police procedural。 Eve Dallas stands for the victims， and， at times， identifies with the victims。 It’s riveting， as these books always are。 But， if you read the book， think about the significance of home。 。。。more

This is the 53rd entry in the In Death series。 In this outing， Lieutenant Dallas is called out on the murder of a homeless woman dumped in a construction-site dumpster。 While she and Detective Peabody are investigating that scene， they are called to a nearby construction site where they find a desiccated skeleton of a woman and her baby in what had been the basement of a restaurant。 Dallas and her team begin the painstaking investigation of the homeless woman’s murder。 Eventually， Dallas solves This is the 53rd entry in the In Death series。 In this outing， Lieutenant Dallas is called out on the murder of a homeless woman dumped in a construction-site dumpster。 While she and Detective Peabody are investigating that scene， they are called to a nearby construction site where they find a desiccated skeleton of a woman and her baby in what had been the basement of a restaurant。 Dallas and her team begin the painstaking investigation of the homeless woman’s murder。 Eventually， Dallas solves both murders， but the woman in the dumpster brings back horrific memories of her own childhood and the other murder pits her team against a rich and powerful scion of New York society with ties to a mobster。This fifty-third book is， surprisingly， one of the best of the series。 And， even though it is the fifty-third book， someone new to the series will not be lost because Robb successfully drops nuggets of information about the characters that explain who they are， where they came from， and how they got to where they are without doing what other authors are guilty of – dumping background information all at once without context。 Robb has written a book with meticulous attention to the details of the investigation and keeps her readers part of the investigation as well。 The author has added new depth to Dallas。 All-in-all a well written procedural featuring a fascinating and complex detective。 The romance between the “Irish thug” Roarke and Dallas is still alive and well。 Dallas’ internal dialogue is often as funny as Peabody’s spoken contributions。 If you are fan of this series， be sure to pick this entry up especially if you gave up the series years ago because this book is like reading the first book – it is as fresh and different from other procedurals as the first book in the series when it came out in 1995。My thanks to St。 Martin’s Press and Edelweiss for an eARC。 。。。more

3。5-star readThere are two things I look forward to each Winter and late Summer/Early Fall， and that's the new releases in the In Death series。 （I look forward to a lot of other books as well， but these books are yearly favorites。） Earlier this year， readers got to continue Eve and Roarke's story with Faithless In Death。 Now， Eve and Roarke continue their romance and crime-fighting in the latest addition to this series， Forgotten In Death。 This book begins， as most do， with a murder。 A sweet， ho 3。5-star readThere are two things I look forward to each Winter and late Summer/Early Fall， and that's the new releases in the In Death series。 （I look forward to a lot of other books as well， but these books are yearly favorites。） Earlier this year， readers got to continue Eve and Roarke's story with Faithless In Death。 Now， Eve and Roarke continue their romance and crime-fighting in the latest addition to this series， Forgotten In Death。 This book begins， as most do， with a murder。 A sweet， homeless woman is found bludgeoned to death on one of Roarke's construction sites。 Known as the "concerned citizen" due to her habit of writing up infractions of those in the neighborhood and reporting the same to the police， she was truly harmless。 Eve's investigation into this murder has barely begun when she is pulled into another murder， also found on a nearby construction site， and eerily reminiscent of the bodies found in the An Didean shelter a few years ago。 This body is found with bullet shells， walled up in a basement， and with a fetus。 Adding to the mystery， the body has been on the site for at least forty years。 It is quite likely that both murder victims would be considered forgettable， but Eve Dallas isn't your typical police office and no one is ever forgotten on her watch。 Will she be able to locate the killers？ Will Eve be able to obtain justice for these victims？It's easy to think that too much time has passed on some crimes， such as with the walled-up body found on one construction site。 Or that the deceased woman thrown into the dumpster on another construction site isn't worth the time or effort of an in-depth investigation since she was homeless。 That might be the prevailing attitude of some today and continue into the future， but for those of us that know and love Eve Dallas， Roarke， and friends， we know that there is no such thing as an unworthy victim。 Eve Dallas goes all out to find out the whys and whodunit for both murder victims。 It doesn't matter to her that one woman was homeless or that the other crime occurred almost forty years ago。 These women are hers now and Eve will not stop until justice prevails。I could give you specifics about how the investigation is performed or how the two murders intersect （if they， in fact， intersect）， but you already know I'm not going to do that。 Yes， there are decidedly predictable elements to this story， but I found it credible and engaging。 If it weren't for this current migraine series， I probably would have read this one in one sitting。 Sadly， it took me took two days simply because I kept having to set this aside due to pain and vision issues。 One of the many things I enjoy about this continuing series is watching the characters grow in their relationships with one another and on their jobs。 We didn't get to see as much of Feeney in this one， but McNab， Delia， Dr。 Mira， Nadine， Cher Reo， Harvo （aka Queen of Hair and Fiber）， Dr。 Garnet DeWinter， Summerset， Dr。 Li Morris， Dickie Berenski， and Commander Whitney make reappearances， as do Baxter， Trueheart， Jenkinson， and others from the Homicide squad。 I'm eagerly awaiting future developments with Mavis， Leonardo， Bella， and their new additions （both the baby and the house）。 There are a lot of themes to unpack in this story， including spousal abuse， classicism， affluenza， privilege， and more。 Forgotten In Death is a story of two women， one from the past and one from the present day （okay， Eve and Roarke's present-day）， who might otherwise be considered disposable and forgotten due to the perceived privilege of wealth and class of others。 We know better and yes， justice ultimately prevails。 I enjoyed Forgotten in Death and look forward to seeing what happens next in the ongoing saga of Eve Dallas， Roarke， and friends。Happy Reading， y'all！This review originally posted at The Book Diva's Reads on 08/09/2021， https://thebookdivasreads。com/2021/08。。。。 。。。more

Forgotten in Death by J。 D。 Robb （pseudonym for Nora Roberts） brings murder， romance and suspense to a well-written futuristic police procedural set in New York City during the spring of 2061。 What happens when the past and the present collide？This story starts with our protagonist， Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYC police department， being called to a construction site crime scene。 Joined by her partner， Detective Delia Peabody， they find the body of a woman without a fixed address who kept Forgotten in Death by J。 D。 Robb （pseudonym for Nora Roberts） brings murder， romance and suspense to a well-written futuristic police procedural set in New York City during the spring of 2061。 What happens when the past and the present collide？This story starts with our protagonist， Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYC police department， being called to a construction site crime scene。 Joined by her partner， Detective Delia Peabody， they find the body of a woman without a fixed address who kept the local cops informed of any rule violations she witnessed on the street。 While working the crime scene， Eve is called away， to a nearby building site where bones decades old have been found。 It turns out that the site is one Eve’s husband， Roarke， has purchased and is starting to develop。Time spent with Eve， Roarke， and Eve’s colleagues is always entertaining。 Eve is definitely a compelling and three-dimensional character。 Her need to serve and protect comes through in every book， but the underlying impetus for this is best understood by reading this series in order。 Due to the way Eve was raised， she often doesn’t understand commonly used phrases and this comes into play a few times in this book making her seem more real and less perfect。 As always， the interactions between Eve and Roarke are enjoyable and bring a different facet of Eve’s personality to light。 Many of the reoccurring police characters play significant roles in this book。 However， readers also get to see a bit of their private lives。The prose is well-written， entertaining， and engaging。 This time Eve’s passion for justice and those that need help pushes the story beyond finding a single murderer， to taking down those that preyed on others。 The plot is thought-provoking and tragic。 While this book has some action， it is mostly a police procedural until the ending。 It is appalling in places and uplifting in others。 Robb manages to embed humor in her novels， providing some much needed levity to offset some of the more serious and grim aspects of the story。 She brings strong characters， great plots， wonderful relationships， and excellent pacing to this series。 Themes include murder， justice， family dynamics， domestic abuse， racism， infidelity， lies， cover-ups， and intolerance of others， as well as standing up for the innocent and the dead。 If you enjoy engaging near-future police procedurals with some romance and humor， then I recommend this series。 This is the fifty-third book in the In Death Eve Dallas series and I have read all of them up to this point。 Overall， it is entertaining， and over time， it is like spending time with old friends。 I can’t wait to read the next book in the series。St。 Martin’s Press and J。D。 Robb provided a digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and are not biased in any way。 Publication date is scheduled for September 7， 2021。 This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine。 。。。more

Lieutenant Eve Dallas and billionaire husband Roarke are at it again。 Another body has been found - this one in a dumpster - and Eve is the homicide detective on the case。 Of course， Roarke is always there by her sside - expertise notwithstanding， but a cup of coffee， a hug， any anything else his love language has to offer。The victim was a homeless woman， but so much more。 In fact， she not only looked out for other homeless people， she also was a bit of a vigilante。 She was known for writing inf Lieutenant Eve Dallas and billionaire husband Roarke are at it again。 Another body has been found - this one in a dumpster - and Eve is the homicide detective on the case。 Of course， Roarke is always there by her sside - expertise notwithstanding， but a cup of coffee， a hug， any anything else his love language has to offer。The victim was a homeless woman， but so much more。 In fact， she not only looked out for other homeless people， she also was a bit of a vigilante。 She was known for writing infractions down in a notebook， but when her body was discovered， her notebook was not with her。 As if Eve already doesn't have her hands full with that murder， she is called to another scene， that of a building site where remains decades old have been discovered during a renovation。 The building is owned by Roarke and that doesn't bode well for Eve。 However， this really doesn't come to a huge surprise to her since Roarke already owns at least half of New York and pretty much lots of other on and off planet property。 Yeah， this is a futuristic detective fiction series。 Love that。This series started off with the setting being 2059 and it is now set in 2061， so there are some very cool aspects threaded into the pages of these novels。 Factor in excellent plots， a that are always quite intereting， fast pacing， danger， complex and engaging characteers， sttong relationships and the marvelous connecting Eve and Roarke share， and you have the recipe for a wonderful book and successful series。I am already pumped to read the next book in the series， Abandoned in Death， scheduled for release in February 2022。 J。 D。 Robb， which is Nora Roberts pseudonym， is amazingly talented and I cannot wait to see what she next has in store for Eve and Roarke。 Many thanks to St。 Martin's Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review。 This is my honest opinion。 。。。more

I received an ARC of this book。 I typically love Eve Dallas novels but I found that this one felt a bit flat。。。especially after the previous book in the series which was a page turner til the end。 The murders felt like deja vu， something already covered in previous cases。

Eve and Peabody catch a case that at first glace seems to be the murder of a homeless woman at a construction site but as they are investigating this murder， they are alerted to another body found in another building that has been there a very long time。 Of course， this building is own by Roarke but the death is so old there is no backsplash on him about it。 It does bring up memories for them of the previous case of bodies found in a building owned by him in a previous book。 The first victim was Eve and Peabody catch a case that at first glace seems to be the murder of a homeless woman at a construction site but as they are investigating this murder， they are alerted to another body found in another building that has been there a very long time。 Of course， this building is own by Roarke but the death is so old there is no backsplash on him about it。 It does bring up memories for them of the previous case of bodies found in a building owned by him in a previous book。 The first victim was well known in the area to the local police as someone who took notes and let the police know who was doing wrong in the area。 These notes end up providing the key in the end to crack the case。 The older murder victim takes a bit longer to untangle out but Eve finds justice for everyone in the end。 A nice solid mystery solved with good police work。 An enjoyable read for fans of the series and new readers alike。 Digital review copy provided by the publisher through Edelweiss 。。。more
