Qué difícil es reseñar una obra tan leída y amada。La verdad es que empiezo a pensar que Tosltoy no es un escritor para mí， o que quizás no lo estoy leyendo en el momento adecuado， porque aunque sus obras me gustan， siempre hay algo que no termina de encantarme。Esta novela es espectacular， tanto por sus personajes como por todo el contexto histórico que nos brinda。 Debo decir que las partes de la guerra se me han hecho un poco pesadas， la verdad。 Había ciertos personajes como Denisov o Dolojov a Qué difícil es reseñar una obra tan leída y amada。La verdad es que empiezo a pensar que Tosltoy no es un escritor para mí， o que quizás no lo estoy leyendo en el momento adecuado， porque aunque sus obras me gustan， siempre hay algo que no termina de encantarme。Esta novela es espectacular， tanto por sus personajes como por todo el contexto histórico que nos brinda。 Debo decir que las partes de la guerra se me han hecho un poco pesadas， la verdad。 Había ciertos personajes como Denisov o Dolojov a los que me ha encantado leer en la guerra， pero ha habido muchas otras escenas que se me han hecho muy largas y muy pesadas。 Aun así， la forma que tiene el autor de describirla hace que no puedas evitar sentirte en el campo de batalla con los cañones disparando al lado。Hay muchísimos personajes， algunos me han gustado más que otros， pero todos han tenido una evolución tremenda， es fascinante comparar dónde empezaron todos y cómo han acabado。Por último， el final de esta novela me ha recordado a Anna Karenina， especialmente por la segunda mitad del epílogo。 Y， por desgracia， este símil no es positivo， ya que el final de Anna Karenina a mí me pareció excesivamente alargado。 La primera mitad del epílogo me ha sacado una sonrisa y me ha llenado de pena al mismo tiempo， pero me ha encantado poder conocer cómo se desarrollan los años venideros de los personajes a los que he acompañado por tantas páginas。 Pero la segunda mitad se me ha hecho eterna， me parece perfecto que el autor quiera añadir unas reflexiones finales sobre la guerra， el pueblo y sus gobernadores， y también que quiera añadir cierto contexto histórico， pero para mí ha sido demasiado。 Creo que esta última parte （que es más un pequeño ensayo que una continuación de la novela） la volveré a leer en unos meses a ver si con algo de perspectiva cambio de opinión。Seguiré leyendo al autor porque， a pesar de que las dos novelas de él que he leído no me han encantado， creo que escribe fenomenal， las páginas vuelan， y los personajes que crea son únicos。 。。。more

It took me a few tries over the years to get past the 1st 100 pages。 The love stories involved are a bit cliche， but one must realize that this was a prototype back in its day。 The thoughts and reflections on the Napoleonic War are second to none。 I think Tolstoy is a fine author。 However， saying that he has and insight to the human psyche unparalleled by others is overly generous。

War and Peace really has no right to be as good as it is。。。it is incredibly long， it's meanders with Tolstoy's philosophical views interspersed， it's complex with many characters and dense history。 But it is an incredible achievement， a sweeping masterpiece of a novel and one that lives up to the hype。It would take many words （which some of the other reviewers have bothered with） to effectively summarize this novel。 At its core， it is a historical novel set during the Napoleonic wars culminating War and Peace really has no right to be as good as it is。。。it is incredibly long， it's meanders with Tolstoy's philosophical views interspersed， it's complex with many characters and dense history。 But it is an incredible achievement， a sweeping masterpiece of a novel and one that lives up to the hype。It would take many words （which some of the other reviewers have bothered with） to effectively summarize this novel。 At its core， it is a historical novel set during the Napoleonic wars culminating with the French invasion of Russia。 It chronicles these events through a large cast of characters， primarily focused on four aristocratic Russian families。 The character development is a strength of the novel and you grow to love each of the main characters - all of who follow unique intersecting arcs。 Personal favorites were Prince Andrey who shunned social ambition and became skeptical of the world， but at the same time was loyal and intelligent throughout。 And Natasha Rostov who had a bit of the manic pixie dream girl syndrome， but brought some levity and innocence to a setting at a particularly dark time。 You can tell Tolstoy was a history buff because despite this being fiction the battles and "real" events portrayed are done in such a way that they are extremely readable but also informative。 But man he hated Napoleon （lol）。Shout out to the Anthony Briggs translation - while I haven't read any of the other versions， this translation made the book very readable but still seemed to retain its original voice At the end of the day， part of how you can judge a novels impact is how it lasts with you。。。I feel that after finishing War and Peace I'm eager to learn more about Russian history， would now willingly tackle Anna Karenina， and have added Moscow and St Petersburg as places that I'd like to visit someday。 It's a heavy book literally and figuratively， but if you're willing to brave it， you'll be rewarded 。。。more

This book is awesome。 At times， you are buried in the descriptive。 For being written only several decades after 1812， you get a unique picture of life through a familial lens。 There are no BIPOC LBGQTRS+ Gender Bending Trannies， or stupid leftist NPCs which make it even better。 Tolstoy was at Sevastopol， so he writes with experience that most would never ever comprehend。

I consider reading and thoroughly understanding this book to be a wonderful life achievement。 This epic account covering a host of excellent and conflicting characters during the Napoleonic invasion of Russia is a truly an incredible tale。 This book has stood the test of time， written in a very engaging way that really takes the reader back in time to live the lives of these Russian nobles。Reading a book of this size， takes a considerable amount of time， energy， concentration and focus。 I have a I consider reading and thoroughly understanding this book to be a wonderful life achievement。 This epic account covering a host of excellent and conflicting characters during the Napoleonic invasion of Russia is a truly an incredible tale。 This book has stood the test of time， written in a very engaging way that really takes the reader back in time to live the lives of these Russian nobles。Reading a book of this size， takes a considerable amount of time， energy， concentration and focus。 I have a great amount of respect for other readers that have completed this book。 There's a lot of people out there that have not managed that feat， so credit where credit is due。I don't want to say too much else on this， if people are looking for precise summary of the book for this review， you'll be sadly disappointed。 If you are interested in the story but not necessarily interested in donating a good chunk of your time to the actually literature， I recommend watching the BBC mini series， which in my opinion is the best one to date。For anyone thinking of embarking on this journey， God speed and I'll see you on the other side。 。。。more

My experience with War and Peace in the beginning it was like a blind date， at first didn’t know what to expect， but then once I started reading couple of chapters I become more and more attached to the storyline and characters。 By the time I reached halfway through the book， I was certain that this is the one for me。What is truly fascinating about this book is that Leo Tolstoy was able to capture the Russian people emotions across different classes during its time。 He was able to brilliantly mi My experience with War and Peace in the beginning it was like a blind date， at first didn’t know what to expect， but then once I started reading couple of chapters I become more and more attached to the storyline and characters。 By the time I reached halfway through the book， I was certain that this is the one for me。What is truly fascinating about this book is that Leo Tolstoy was able to capture the Russian people emotions across different classes during its time。 He was able to brilliantly mixed history， love， and philosophy all together， and that is why many critics （during the release of War and Peace - 1867） couldn’t define its genre （whether it was a fiction or non-fiction literary work）。 What also amazes me about this novel is that it depicts the other side of history bringing up people’s actual feelings and actions （especially during wartime）， which many historians and books couldn’t show or bring them to surface。 And that is why it is considered one of the greatest books of all time。After reading War and Peace I learned many powerful life lessons， for instance no one wins in a war， it is a devastating situation all parties involved taking into consideration casualties， economy， and psychology effects。 It also helped me to understand Russia and the Russian people today， which will be a guide for me to follow during my first visit to Russia。In summary， don’t let the “1358” pages to set you back from your reading journey。 Just ensure you set some time in your daily schedule to read it。 。。。more
