Summary

A thrilling debut, reminiscent of new fan favorites like One of Us Is Lying and the beloved classics by Agatha Christie, that will leave readers guessing until the explosive ending。

“Welcome to dinner, and again, congratulations on being selected。 Now you must do the selecting。”

What do the queen bee, star athlete, valedictorian, stoner, loner, and music geek all have in common? They were all invited to a scholarship dinner, only to discover it’s a trap。 Someone has locked them into a room with a bomb, a syringe filled with poison, and a note saying they have an hour to pick someone to kill。。。or else everyone dies。

Amber Prescott is determined to get her classmates and herself out of the room alive, but that might be easier said than done。 No one knows how they’re all connected or who would want them dead。

As they retrace the events over the past year that might have triggered their captor’s ultimatum, it becomes clear that everyone is hiding something。

And with the clock ticking down, confusion turns into fear, and fear morphs into panic as they race to answer the biggest question: Who will they choose to die?

i have really mixed feelings about this one。 and, I'm also really disappointed, because i really wanted to read this, and i thought it would be AWESOME。 it definitely sounds awesome。 but i really wasn't。 the alternating chapters made the book lose it's momentum, but i loved the plot twist and theme at the ending。 3。5 stars i have really mixed feelings about this one。 and, I'm also really disappointed, because i really wanted to read this, and i thought it would be AWESOME。 it definitely sounds awesome。 but i really wasn't。 the alternating chapters made the book lose it's momentum, but i loved the plot twist and theme at the ending。 3。5 stars 。。。more

the plot twist is just shocking。 did not expect that。 although i felt that the ending of the book did not give the closure that i was looking for。 should have written an epilogue to know what happened to her。 did she get arrested? how did her parents react? does she really regret it?

This was fun! I listened to the audiobook and it held my attention for the entire book and had me guessing who might have devised this whole plan。 I didn't guess correctly and I felt stupid for not getting it, but I also liked that I didn't get it。I don't think this book is going to be for everyone since it requires quite the stretch of the imagination to believe someone could pull this off, but I enjoyed the ride。 I also liked how this became a commentary on bullying and how it can push you to This was fun! This is the sort of thing I wanted from One of Us is Lying twist-wise, written so well! The pace starts off quite slow but around the middle of the book it becomes impossible to put down。

I'm giving this book a 3。5 because its not good enough to be a four, but its better than a three。 I guessed the twist before it was revealed so that was kind of disappointing and I don't love how the story ended, but it was a good book。 I would recommend but its not one of my favorites and its not mind blowing。 I'm giving this book a 3。5 because its not good enough to be a four, but its better than a three。 I guessed the twist before it was revealed so that was kind of disappointing and I don't love how the story ended, but it was a good book。 I would recommend but its not one of my favorites and its not mind blowing。 。。。more

Congratulations。 It’s a pleasure to announce that this book was a …waste of my time。 Still finished it, hence the 2。5。 It was choppy, all over the place, the split timeline was more out of convenience than necessity。 Nothing unsurprising and I just …the whole book felt like a whole plot device。 So。 If you enjoy quick mysteries, no reason you won’t like this! This book is honestly so good! It sort of starts in a typical US senior school in a small town, with a few main characters。 But soon, they are stuck in a situation where one of them has to die to secure the fate of the others。 It is a great plot, and the last few chapters are incredible, and filled with plot twists。 It switches between narration of the past, and narration of the time in that room, with a countdown of how long they have left to live。 You definitely MUST read this book!

Kristina Ward

Just okay。 I felt the ending was a little far fetched based on character development。 It did however keep me interested throughout。

This。。。。。 was bad。 I felt nothing when i read this whole thing。 Im not tense, im not scared, im not curious to know whats gonna happen next, im not surprised, and i definitely not satisfied with the ending。 Nothing at all。 I dont know what happened, it has to be the writing style, because i dont feel any emotion at all。 And i definitely dont give a shit about all of them。 And the ending, holy shit that might be the one of the WORST ending i ever read in my life。 The conclusion feels lazy。 I know This。。。。。 was bad。 I felt nothing when i read this whole thing。 Im not tense, im not scared, im not curious to know whats gonna happen next, im not surprised, and i definitely not satisfied with the ending。 Nothing at all。 I dont know what happened, it has to be the writing style, because i dont feel any emotion at all。 And i definitely dont give a shit about all of them。 And the ending, holy shit that might be the one of the WORST ending i ever read in my life。 The conclusion feels lazy。 I know im not expecting any confusing mystery shit from young adult book, but i dont think it could be this bad。 Thats okay though, not everything has to be A Good Girl's Guide to Murder! 。。。more

This book was such a pleasant surprise! I really loved the back-and-forth narrative as it ramped up the knots in the tension。 The dynamic of the group is deeply mysterious and the culmination of bits and pieces of the past interwoven with the present moment of a ticking bomb makes for a fantastic feet-on-the-ground, hands-gripping-the-page read!

I don't expect her to predict actual murder, of course, but a pretty unforgivable amount of emotional distress (and property damage) was always inevitable。 She spent the whole book laser focused on her future in music, and then she threw it all away。And then we don't really get to see the fallout。 I would like to know if she was charged, if the others forgave her, if she lost her spot at USC。 And what happened to her poor parents! So, in sum, I enjoyed the ride, but I personally didn't love the destination。 Nonetheless, I do think it's a worthwhile read。 。。。more

I should have backed away from this when it said it was similar to One of Us Is Lying。 Where do I begin? The characters are flat and one dimensional。 They all had stereotypical personalities that were never developed。 The story is told in the POV of Amber, and still she never developed as a character。 Everything whether it was dialogue or reactions were surface level。 The plot was interesting but lacked any sort of thrill。 WHY would any author or publisher think it was a good idea to switch betw I should have backed away from this when it said it was similar to One of Us Is Lying。 Where do I begin? It was pointless to have constant flashbacks to events that really had nothing to do with the plot。 Sure, it explained the relationships between the characters but that could have been done differently than completely stopping the story every other chapter。 Nothing was thrilling or shocking either which left me disappointed。 Besides that, the ending。。。the reveal was so stupid。 I didn't expect much from the beginning but c'mon。 It was unrealistic and honestly just weird。 。。。more

This is a YA thriller that made me think of the book “and then there were none” by Agatha Christie, the writing style is similar and we know the killer from the start of the book。 The way the book is set up with flashbacks and cliffhangers make it very engaging as you’re getting more and more background information on the characters involved and learn what makes them tick and I thought this book pulled that off really well。 I really liked the way the author dealt with online bullying in a creati This is a YA thriller that made me think of the book “and then there were none” by Agatha Christie, the writing style is similar and we know the killer from the start of the book。 The way the book is set up with flashbacks and cliffhangers make it very engaging as you’re getting more and more background information on the characters involved and learn what makes them tick and I thought this book pulled that off really well。 I really liked the way the author dealt with online bullying in a creative way。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This would have been a good book had the “twist ending” where Amber orchestrated the whole thing not been the ending。 A lot of it was very predictable and trope-y, but it was expected for a YA novel。 The reveal in the ending completely undid anything substantial the characters learned or experienced in the story。 Frankly, I also thought Amber was not smart enough to pull off a heist like that

Kristin

I tried caring about the characters but I couldn’t find myself relating。 The ending was weird and rushed and unbelievable。

I really didn't like the way this went in the end, but I found the majority of it interesting and fun。 I liked the unravelling secrets and the way things started to fit together。 I think that it ended quite suddenly and I think there should have been a bit more build up to the reveal over who was behind it。I did suspect who it was because after the midway point it was quite obvious who would want to do this。3。5/5 I really didn't like the way this went in the end, but I found the majority of it interesting and fun。 I liked the unravelling secrets and the way things started to fit together。 I think that it ended quite suddenly and I think there should have been a bit more build up to the reveal over who was behind it。I did suspect who it was because after the midway point it was quite obvious who would want to do this。3。5/5 。。。more
