SO SLOW and long and repetitive。

I loved this book so much。 A modern fairy tale with beautifully developed characters who will make you laugh, cry, smile, rage and sigh in contentment。 The twists were smart and surprising and most of all, I ended wishing I could pet Book the cat。

It was ok。 I don’t know what I was expecting。 Maybe a little suspense? It was kind of just a boring love story。 Probably would have quit if I had been reading but I listened to this one so I did finish which is good because I don’t like quitting。 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is an amazing fantasy。 The world is familiar with Faustian bargains with a devil。 This is another twist in that collection of tales。 The evil force in this book is unique, and Addie is a very intelligent "victim" who is given exactly what she bargained for with creative manipulations that are exciting。 It is also interesting that there are a community of these "victims"。 This is an amazing fantasy。 The world is familiar with Faustian bargains with a devil。 This is another twist in that collection of tales。 The evil force in this book is unique, and Addie is a very intelligent "victim" who is given exactly what she bargained for with creative manipulations that are exciting。 It is also interesting that there are a community of these "victims"。 。。。more

I loved this book so so much。 I listened to it … all 17 hours of it! I loved the woven story。 It was a fascinating concept。 The character development was really good。 And even though it moved between time periods, it was easy to keep up with。 And I loved how it ended。 Go read or listen to this book!

Because time is cruel to all, and crueler still to artists。 Because visions weakens, and voices wither, and talent fades。。。。 Because happiness is brief, and history is lasting, and in the end。。。 everyone wants to be remembered。”“You know,” she’d said, “they say people are like snowflakes, each one unique, but I think they’re more like skies。 Some are cloudy, some are stormy, some are clear, but no two are ever quite the same。”“This is where the thinkers are。 This is where the dreamers live。 This is the heart of the world, and the head, and it is changing。” His eyes dance with light。 “Life is so brief, and every night in Rennes I’d go to bed, and lie awake, and think, there is another day behind me, and who knows how few ahead。”“Let me walk you home,” and when he opens his mouth to protest, she presses on, “The darkness is no place to be alone。”“In daylight, or in darkness。 as a woman, or as a man。 Please, let me see you again。”“Even if everyone you met remembered,” Luc says, “I would still know you best。”She searches his face。 “Do I know you?”He bows his head over hers。 “You are the only one who does。”<3 。。。more

Beautifully written and extremely satisfying。 It’s rare to find a novel everyone can agree on, entirely possibly because it transcends a genre and is multiple things at once: fantasy, romance, historical。

This book started off slow (and I mean sloooooow) for me, but I liked it more and more as it went along。 While I wouldn't say I loved the ending, it was very satisfying, and perhaps that's even better。 This book started off slow (and I mean sloooooow) for me, but I liked it more and more as it went along。 While I wouldn't say I loved the ending, it was very satisfying, and perhaps that's even better。 。。。more

The book that broke my reading slump。 The real world art tying into Addie’s life was so beautiful。 Cried like a baby at the end。

This book was a challenge to finish, other than this author incorporating pretty writing, it felt as if there was nothing going on within the plot line。 I guess you could possibly consider the last 100 pages to have spiked some sort of interesting plot line, but getting to that point was painful。 To me, the ending was an utter disappointment that I wish this author had gone in a different direction with the ending。 I also thought the main character Addie was flat, and I wish she wouldn’t have co This book was a challenge to finish, other than this author incorporating pretty writing, it felt as if there was nothing going on within the plot line。 I guess you could possibly consider the last 100 pages to have spiked some sort of interesting plot line, but getting to that point was painful。 To me, the ending was an utter disappointment that I wish this author had gone in a different direction with the ending。 I also thought the main character Addie was flat, and I wish she wouldn’t have complained so much throughout this book。 She was the one who made the deal she did, but I wish this author could have found a way to make her character more interesting。 I also wish there was more dimension to the storyline, it seemed Addie never really experienced much of the country, which didn’t make sense to me, why wouldn’t she have wanted to experience more of the world? If she was complaining how boring her life was, I thought she would have branched out and tried to see all of it。 For me, this book was not it for me, there was nothing really going on in the plot, and the characters felt one-dimensional to me that I wished I would have passed on this book。 。。。more

I quite enjoyed this book! The book took some unexpected twists and turns and I especially enjoyed that I didn't predict the end。 The writing is a bit too rambly for me, but I was able to overlook it as the story and characters were compelling。 A worthwhile read! Oh my gosh I loved this book so much! The main character, Addie, is clever and resourceful and delightfully stubborn。 I *loved* spying on Addie as she learned to navigate life with her curse。 I loved the characters, the writing, the story。 Halfway through the book, a called a friend who is also a reader to ask if she has read this yet because I was really invested in these characters and I needed to know if I should mentally prepare myself for it to not end well for them。 (No spoilers, sorry。)I' Oh my gosh I loved this book so much! Okay。 So here it is。 I loved the writing and vocabulary and the story absolutely had a hold on me。 I was truly so invested in the story and plot。 Sometimes I was so frustrated with Addie, like you have this ability to watch the world so GO WATCH IT!! At the same time, I understand why she was hurting and what was holding her back。I agree with many people saying it is quite eurocenric。 I really do。 The story could have done more to negate that。 Regardless, phenomenal read。 I loved Henry。 I loved Okay。 So here it is。 I loved the writing and vocabulary and the story absolutely had a hold on me。 I was truly so invested in the story and plot。 Sometimes I was so frustrated with Addie, like you have this ability to watch the world so GO WATCH IT!! This book was beautifully written but almost unbearably slow。 I really had to pull myself through this one。 But- I did it。 Was honestly not what I expected and was far more about character development than plot- which are hard books for me to stay with。

2。5 stars。 I was interested in the story and the writing style with short chapters hooked me in。 But sadly wasn't a winner for me。 I felt that the storyline repeated itself so much over the years of Addie's life and I just kept thinking "so what"。 The novel was 100-200 pages too long and I wish it got to the point sooner。 By the time the book was over, I was over it。 2。5 stars。 I was interested in the story and the writing style with short chapters hooked me in。 But sadly wasn't a winner for me。 I felt that the storyline repeated itself so much over the years of Addie's life and I just kept thinking "so what"。 The novel was 100-200 pages too long and I wish it got to the point sooner。 By the time the book was over, I was over it。 。。。more
