Summary

Dexter Morgan has burned the candle at both ends for many years。 Blood spatter analyst 。。。husband 。。。father 。。。serial killer。 And now, for the first time, his world has truly collapsed。 Dexter is arrested on charges of murder。 He has lost everything - including his wife, his kids, and the loyalty of his sister。 Now completely alone, Dexter faces a murder charge (for a crime 。。。ironically 。。。he did not actually commit)。 His only chance for freedom lies with his brother, Brian, who has a dark plan to prove Dexter's innocence。 But the stakes are deadly, and the epic showdown that lies in Dexter's path may lead, once and for all, to his demise。 Jeff Lindsay's trademark devilish wit and cutting satire have never been sharper。 Dexter Is Dead marks the end of a beloved series, but is also Dexter's most satisfying and suspenseful outing yet。

i just had to finish the series, but just like most books it takes forever to get going, and lot of repetition: Hungry Dexter, Sleepy Dexter, Hungry againrinse and repeat。still good to see the end (i sure hope this really is the end for Dexter)it was enough, ok series but not great as the tv show。

It's an end。 Not the best one there is。 But also not worse than the series。 Worth a read, if you've read the other 7 books。 It's an end。 Not the best one there is。 But also not worse than the series。 Worth a read, if you've read the other 7 books。 。。。more

This is only the second Dexter novel I've read, but I wanted to see how the actual inventor of the character chose to end things, unlike the disgracefully disappointing ending to the tv series。 At first I thought it was a little over-written, but then I got into the swing of things。I enjoyed the ride。 (And it was a much better ending。) This is only the second Dexter novel I've read, but I wanted to see how the actual inventor of the character chose to end things, unlike the disgracefully disappointing ending to the tv series。 At first I thought it was a little over-written, but then I got into the swing of things。I enjoyed the ride。 (And it was a much better ending。) 。。。more

Hated the ending… I should know clearly what happened and it really seems like this should have been clear。 On a good note my all time favorite character came back in this one! But on a bad note, no resolution to so many story lines…

Hated the ending。 I waited years to find this book and was so excited to read the final Dexter book, so disappointed。

As a Dexter fan。 Huge fan of the show, loved the books。 Went through my second go on the book series and gonna fly through the show again before the new season, the books trailed off with 5-7。 However, Dexter as a character was redeemed in this book。 The struggle with humanity was real in this one。

Here to help the kids become killers/Would do ANYTHING for Lily' to 'dont give a shit about what happens to them。 They are Deb's problem now'。 Just because he met that chick in the last book? One of the more enjoyable Dexter novels, this really kept me entertained。 I'm a bit disappointed about the ending, but that's to be expected - it ends exactly as the title would suggest。 I would have liked to have seen the conclusion to the investigation of allegations against Dexter, and I would have liked him to win the case。 The story of Dexter has finished, and I am saddened by this。 One of the more enjoyable Dexter novels, this really kept me entertained。 I'm a bit disappointed about the ending, but that's to be expected - it ends exactly as the title would suggest。 I would have liked to have seen the conclusion to the investigation of allegations against Dexter, and I would have liked him to win the case。 The story of Dexter has finished, and I am saddened by this。 。。。more

A definite recovery from the derailment of the last book。 Dexter finds himself in a situation worthy of a finale, stuck between a rock and a hard place。 He’s forced to get help from those he least expected and in the end discovers the true meaning of his existence。

In the eighth and final installment of the alliteratively titled Dexter novels, Dexter finally is arrested and charged with murder。。。charges of which he is (ironically) innocent。 He is accused of murdering his wife Rita, her boyfriend Robert (who was going to portray Dexter in a TV series [things get a little meta-]), and his girlfriend Jackie。 Dexter is arrested based on shoddy police work by a dirty cop, Detective Anderson who fabricates evidence to make Dexter look guilty。 Seemingly everyone In the eighth and final installment of the alliteratively titled Dexter novels, Dexter finally is arrested and charged with murder。。。charges of which he is (ironically) innocent。 He is accused of murdering his wife Rita, her boyfriend Robert (who was going to portray Dexter in a TV series [things get a little meta-]), and his girlfriend Jackie。 Dexter is arrested based on shoddy police work by a dirty cop, Detective Anderson who fabricates evidence to make Dexter look guilty。 Seemingly everyone including his adopted sister, Deb, seem content to let Dexter rot in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, when suddenly, his biological brother Brian, hires a high powered, expensive lawyer to represent Dexter。 Dexter is released, thanks to his new lawyers efforts, but questions arise: where did Brian get the money for Miami’s most expensive lawyer and what does he want from Dexter? As it turns out, Brian has gotten involved in the narcotics trade and has run afoul of a drug lord named Raul, who is now out to get both Brian and Dexter。 。。。more

Takes some time to get started, but the last 100 pages encompasses all the humor, gore and characters that readers love and takes the series to its final conclusion。 I don't want to give away what happens to Dexter at the end。 Takes some time to get started, but the last 100 pages encompasses all the humor, gore and characters that readers love and takes the series to its final conclusion。 I don't want to give away what happens to Dexter at the end。 。。。more

Overall I’d give the series 3 stars, but this was a pretty good way to end it。 Just enough ambiguity to keep Dexter’s overall mystique alive。 I think anything definitive would have felt nothing short of disappointingly bland, so I didn’t mind the lack of answers。 For the most part, we know and understand the future for the majority of the characters and that’s enough for me。

Certainly better than season 8 of the TV show。 Time will tell if Season 9 offers a decent ending, but I feel like the very end can only be satisfying if he dies at the end。 My expectations are high, even though they probably shouldn't be。 I'll be interesting to compare it to this book。 Certainly better than season 8 of the TV show。 Time will tell if Season 9 offers a decent ending, but I feel like the very end can only be satisfying if he dies at the end。 My expectations are high, even though they probably shouldn't be。 I'll be interesting to compare it to this book。 。。。more

Overall, I really liked this series。 I loved the differences between the books and the show, but wished Deb in the show was more like her book character。 They are similar, but the show is missing something with her。 I definitely think fans of the show should read the series。

This was bad。。 really bad。 I liked 1-6 a lot。。 by book 7 Dexter has completely changed, almost a caricature of himself。 So then on to book 8 and it picks up right after book 7。。 where Dexter continues in the path of not acting like he did in the first 6 books。Dexter goes from cold blooded killer to bumbling moron。 Supporting characters need not apply, they were shallow and one dimensional throughout。。 and then on to Brian。。 it felt like this book was poor quality Frasier fan-fiction。 Dexter and This was bad。。 really bad。 I liked 1-6 a lot。。 by book 7 Dexter has completely changed, almost a caricature of himself。 So then on to book 8 and it picks up right after book 7。。 where Dexter continues in the path of not acting like he did in the first 6 books。Dexter goes from cold blooded killer to bumbling moron。 Supporting characters need not apply, they were shallow and one dimensional throughout。。 and then on to Brian。。 it felt like this book was poor quality Frasier fan-fiction。 Dexter and Brian constantly being overly pompous (to the point of Dexter trying to out-quote Shakespeare) and calling each other Dear Brother in almost every conversation。And Brian, the other cold blooded killer that outsmarted the police previously is now on the run from a drug cartel but somehow is totally unaware that credit cards could be tracked。Astor and Cody, the cold blooded killer wannabes don't get a look in except to be saved and Dexters own kid is suddenly unimportant to him。And then the food。。 I suspect the author was hungry a lot during writing as the nonsense rambling about food is near constant。 Finally。。 the ending。。 pulling a Sopranos? Seriously?I wish I had stopped at book 6。 。。。more

I started reading these books because I enjoyed the TV series。 I liked the first six books。 Book 7 was okay but just didn't seem like a usual Dexter novel。 The last book, as much as the title gives away the ending, was a bit of a disappointment。 I started reading these books because I enjoyed the TV series。 I liked the first six books。 Book 7 was okay but just didn't seem like a usual Dexter novel。 The last book, as much as the title gives away the ending, was a bit of a disappointment。 。。。more

Picks up at the end of Dexter's Final Cut。 Dexter is in jail (not) charged with a triple homicide and pedophilia。 Incompetent Detective Anderson is making a hash a framing him, and everyone has abandoned him, even Debbie。 Then mob lawyer Kraunauer takes his case, and it turns out Dexter has one friend left, his brother Brian。 Of course Brian is a total sociopath so he has his own reason for helping Dexter。 Brian has run afoul of a Mexican drug lord and needs Dexter to help him stay alive, mostly Picks up at the end of Dexter's Final Cut。 Dexter is in jail (not) charged with a triple homicide and pedophilia。 Incompetent Detective Anderson is making a hash a framing him, and everyone has abandoned him, even Debbie。 Then mob lawyer Kraunauer takes his case, and it turns out Dexter has one friend left, his brother Brian。 Of course Brian is a total sociopath so he has his own reason for helping Dexter。 Brian has run afoul of a Mexican drug lord and needs Dexter to help him stay alive, mostly with the idea of removing the drug lord permanently。 So Dexter has the dual task of defeating the entire Florida judicial system and defeating a Mexican cartel at the same time, while staying out of sight of corrupt police detectives and hired assassins。 Naturally this leads to gunfights, torture, bombings, and legal technicalities。Things start out slow but once Dexter is loose it accelerates quickly。 At first Dexter is in jail and naturally he spends a great deal of time feeling sorry for himself。 This serves to both establish just how bleak his situation is and, when Debbie arrives, to remind us just who Dexter really is。 The fun begins when Brian shows up。 Dexter's Dark Passenger doesn't have much to say, but Brian assumes the role most admirably。 The interaction between the two is great and makes one wish for a new series with just the two of them。 Dexter once again, as in the previous books, proves that he vastly overestimates his own intelligence, as obvious clues role past him again and again。 Only when he is in the act as super predator is he truly effective。There are several plot holes and overly convenient coincidences throughout this book, and some questions go unanswered。 Why is Dexter so tired? But it moves along and things are best when Brian helps。 Not since the first book has Dexter been so totally Dexter。 Without the family to hold him back and his freedom on the line the Harry Code takes second fiddle, and Dexter is more open to violence and his innate sociopathic tendencies take center stage, especially with his dealing with poor Vince Masuoka。 It's a fair ending to the series, not totally satisfying but does tend to wrap everything up by the final page。 。。。more
