Summary

In “the Trump satire we’ve been waiting for” (The Washington Post), award-winning and bestselling author of Thank You for Smoking delivers a hilarious and whipsmart fake memoir by Herb Nutterman—Donald Trump’s seventh chief of staff—who has written the ultimate tell-all about Trump and Russia。

Herb Nutterman never intended to become Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff。 Herb served the Trump Organization for twenty-seven years, holding jobs in everything from a food and beverage manager at the Trump Magnifica to being the first general manager of the Trump Bloody Run Golf Course。 And when his old boss asks “his favorite Jew” to take on the daunting role of chief of staff, Herb, spurred on by loyalty agrees。

But being the chief of staff is a lot different from being a former hospitality expert。 Soon, Herb finds himself deeply involved in Russian intrigue, deflecting rumors about Mike Pence’s high school involvement in a Satanic cult, and leading President Trump’s reelection campaign。

What Nutterman experiences is outrageous, outlandish, and otherwise unbelievable—therefore making it a deadly accurate account of being the chief of staff during the Trump administration。 With hilarious jabs at the biggest world leaders and Washington politics overall, Make Russia Great Again is a timely political satire from “one of the funniest writers in the English language” (Tom Wolfe)。

It's hard to satirize the Trump years (and that's as political as I will get - you can interpret that as you will)。 Christopher Buckley is up to the task。 The story is told from the perspective of food and beverage manager turned White House Chief of Staff, Herb Nutterman, who witnesses, and is part of, the absurdities of the years。 It's hard to satirize the Trump years (and that's as political as I will get - you can interpret that as you will)。 Christopher Buckley is up to the task。 The story is told from the perspective of food and beverage manager turned White House Chief of Staff, Herb Nutterman, who witnesses, and is part of, the absurdities of the years。 。。。more

I had forgotten how well Christopher Buckley writes。 I’ve been a fan for a long time and this wonderful satire harkens back to Little Green Men and other Washington spoofs he has written over the years。 I need to go back and re-read some of Buckley’s earlier stuff, and his father’s spy thrillers。 This book is a funny satire of the former president that is so well-written, with great turns-of-phrase and dialogue。 I highly recommend it。

This is not a book for the politically correct。 If your sensibilities are tender, I would highly suggest another novel。 With that trigger warning out of the way, this book was great fun。 I loved the no-holds barred satire of Trump and his political circle。 Behind the changed names, you can easily recognize the real-life individuals being described。 For example, Cricket Singh is Nikki Haley and Mr。 Calaniti is Sean Hannity。 I also liked the deluded and ultimately doomed main character, Herb Nutte This is not a book for the politically correct。 If your sensibilities are tender, I would highly suggest another novel。 With that trigger warning out of the way, this book was great fun。 I loved the no-holds barred satire of Trump and his political circle。 Behind the changed names, you can easily recognize the real-life individuals being described。 For example, Cricket Singh is Nikki Haley and Mr。 Calaniti is Sean Hannity。 I also liked the deluded and ultimately doomed main character, Herb Nutterman。 In addition, the author Christopher Buckley shows his erudition with some fascinating historical references。 All in all, this is definitely worth reading。 。。。more

I eagerly started this one -- I mean, PJ O'Rourke loved it! And I usually like Buckley's humorous satires。 But this one fell flat: one long Trump joke, and I'm sick of Trump jokes。 Sick of Trump, really, and so glad he's fading from the news, and from politics, and from the scene。 So I'll probably try it again in a year or so, once my unpleasant memories of Mr Trump have faded more。Left unrated, since I didn't get far。 I eagerly started this one -- I mean, PJ O'Rourke loved it! Christopher Buckley stopped writing political satire because he had come to the conclusion that our reality had outstripped satire。 He was right, and he probably should have stuck to his original position。 "Make Russia Great 。 。 。" is a valiant attempt, but a true satire of the Trump presidency will be elusive--because who would have believed the crap that went on? Even the most absurd situations Buckley contrives fall flat, especially after January 6。I loved "Little Green Men" and "Thank You fo Christopher Buckley stopped writing political satire because he had come to the conclusion that our reality had outstripped satire。 He was right, and he probably should have stuck to his original position。 "Make Russia Great 。 。 。" is a valiant attempt, but a true satire of the Trump presidency will be elusive--because who would have believed the crap that went on? Thought it was important to get some fun out of the four miserable Trump years and, at first, this book did it。 I frequently smiled and occasionally chortled。。。。but hard to forget half way through that we lived this insanity as well and that tamped down on the humor a bit。 It was enjoyable and I loved the names Squigg Lee Biskeet AKA Lindsey Graham 。。。。and Stephen Miller came off as a Hitler Youth (although there is some question if that is fact or satire in my mind) and its all told by Trump's Thought it was important to get some fun out of the four miserable Trump years and, at first, this book did it。 I frequently smiled and occasionally chortled。。。。but hard to forget half way through that we lived this insanity as well and that tamped down on the humor a bit。 It was enjoyable and I loved the names Squigg Lee Biskeet AKA Lindsey Graham 。。。。and Stephen Miller came off as a Hitler Youth (although there is some question if that is fact or satire in my mind) and its all told by Trump's Chief of Staff Herb Nutterman。 His wife Hetta Nutterman had it right。。。it's a whole lot of slaughtered red beets and a big bowl of borscht。 Good read for this Summer。 。。。more

If you enjoy satire, this is a HOOT! I recommend for people of all political persuasions (as you may know, the Buckley family is long-standing Republicans) for this easy read beach book filled with laughs。 I'd enjoy a sequel in a few years with some Weasel Giuliani and more Squiggly Biscuit (Lindsay Graham) to go with a Make Mar-a-lago Russian Again! Not suitable for the serious and sensitive folks。 If you enjoy satire, this is a HOOT! I'm giving this book three stars out of a generous assumption that "it's me, not the author。" By that, I mean that for me, it's just too soon to read satire about the Trump administration。 I have read most of what Christopher Buckley has written and enjoyed it, so I assume that this book deserves to be finished at some point。 Maybe。 But not now。 I'm giving this book three stars out of a generous assumption that "it's me, not the author。" By that, I mean that for me, it's just too soon to read satire about the Trump administration。 I have read most of what Christopher Buckley has written and enjoyed it, so I assume that this book deserves to be finished at some point。 Maybe。 But not now。 。。。more

。 “Make Russia Great Again” is a political satire。 Christopher Buckley has written many but this is my first by him。 This was published in 2020 before the election so it is interesting to see his prediction。 It is the story of The Donald appointing Herb Nutterman, his “favorite jew”, as his 9th chief of staff based on the fact thatNutterman had previously worked as a senior hospitality manager for Trump, the hotel magnate。 The plot revolves around the machinations Nutterman goes through to prote 。 “Make Russia Great Again” is a political satire。 Christopher Buckley has written many but this is my first by him。 This was published in 2020 before the election so it is interesting to see his prediction。 It is the story of The Donald appointing Herb Nutterman, his “favorite jew”, as his 9th chief of staff based on the fact thatNutterman had previously worked as a senior hospitality manager for Trump, the hotel magnate。 The plot revolves around the machinations Nutterman goes through to protect “45” from Putin and a russian oligarch who “have something on him”。 Here are thwo observations about the book。 First I am not sure what filtering rules Buckley applied when deciding when to use real names or fictionalized ones。 For example, the Trumps are all referred to with their actual names but the VP is referred to as “Pants”。 Also Pompeo and Barr are called out but not others。 Second, as bizarre as some of the contrivances are, sadly none of them seemed impossible。 Our reality in 2020 was more far fetched than the book。 I don’t have any of his other satirical books to compare it to so I can’t provide those as reference。 He did pile on as a “Never Trump” so if you are an “Ever Trump” you may not enjoy this。 As they say in the TV industry Buckley may have “jumped the shark” piling on absurdity after absurdity, So mixed emotions here。 I rate it a 7。5/10。 #edcinpaucomments 。。。more
