Summary

Don’t miss the first book in New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter’s sexy, heart-pounding new Immortal Enemies series about a ruthless warrior hellbent on revenge, the fae princess determined to thwart him at every turn, and the desire that threatens to consume them in Heartless

"One of the premier authors of paranormal romance。 Gena Showalter delivers an utterly spellbinding story!"
—Kresley Cole, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Vengeance is irresistible…

Kaysar the Unhinged One, fae King of Midnight, can drive anyone to madness with his song。 A ruthless warrior forged in hate, he lives to force his enemies to their knees。 He will stop at nothing to succeed—even abducting and seducing his foe’s beloved bride to ensure his own child one day sits on the male’s throne。 Except, his prize escapes to the mortal realm before the first kiss, her heart transplanted into a human beauty with dangerous secrets…

Chantel “Cookie” Bardot is a professional gamer girl great at trash-talking, bad at peopling。 After a long-awaited surgery, she begins to morph into a powerful fae princess。 Catapulted into a strange land ruled by a cruel but seductive villain, she must battle flesh-and-blood monsters and navigate royal intrigues。 But the true danger is Kaysar, whose every wicked touch tempts her beyond reason。 Should she run…or descend into the darkness with him?

His kingdom at all?! I was so eager to see all the jars with tongues and etc。 Instead we get his forgotten realm… that now belongs to Cookie。 There could probably be another book about how Cookie discovers Kaysars real self by entering his home and bedroom…I love the concept of this story and characters。 Love the “mad hatter” vibes and the craziness of it all, as well I like that cruelty and slaughter is acceptable and both characters encourage each other。 Obviously everyone who is killed has deserved it, because they are against the King or the new Queen, so there is no guilt or disgust about their actions。 It’s completely clear why someone is killed。 To be honest there is more room for more gruesome scenarios。 As crazy and violent as they all are, more specific details could be revealed。 Sometimes I was waiting to read something disgusting or something that would make me cringe, but everything is more or less plain, a lot of killing, some bloodshed but nothing specific。 It could be spiced up more, but then I’m not the majority of the readers。 Maybe it’s not what everyone wants to read。 Kaysar - you can’t not love him - who doesn’t love a sexy bad boy (fae) who have suffered all his life and only “the one and only” (Chantel) can make him happy and save him。 I think I always have gravitated towards couples where the female saves the male from his own suffering。 She makes him understand, at the end of course, what he couldn’t see for all this time… thousands of years。 Chantel supposed to grow as a character, find her true self, for some reason the ability to feel the emotion of others skins “garments”, or it just strengthens her own specific emotion or trait, doesn’t really convince me that she has grown… more like she had been like that from the begging, just now everyone else can see it too。 She is very rational and strategic from the beginning, she has developed new powers, she has fallen in love, found new home… she has it all and she is more or less calm about it all。 I loved that Kaysar could show his anger more, because nothing goes away in one day, he takes some time to figure stuff out… maybe a little longer than anticipated, but he has good reasons for that and it makes everything more believable。 The only thing I was not a fan of - the bribing - he really overcompensated with the gifts and she was very greedy to accept and keep them all。 Felt like harpy vibes with their love for shiny items, but it throw me off every time from their emotional connection。 I got distracted, he gives her everything and she just takes it and after some time just forgives his actions towards her。 I get it, thats the way how people react to the ones you love, but I don’t think he needed to give her all these gifts, I wanted him to somehow differently show his true feelings。 It took me a wile to read this book, maybe because I really don’t like e-books, I should just be more patient and order the paperback, but i’m really looking forward for the future stories。 I think it will be great and definitely enjoyable series。 。。。more

Heartless is a solid start to another series from Showalter, but I will admit that I still rather expected it to connect with other series that I have read and if it does I missed those connections。 I really liked Cookie's character and thought her sass and independence were great。 Kaysar is a wounded character, and even when he is being a jerk I did not hate him like I would other characters doing the same things。 I did think some of the mayhem and killing was a bit too easily accepted by Cookie, however the flow of the book and give and take between her and Kaysar was great。I also liked the world building and secondary characters。 I want more of all the secondary characters, and what happens next in this world。 I also want some answer on little bits of information dropped in this book that have my imagination spinning to fill in the gaps。 Thankfully, having read a great many of Showalter's books, I have faith that future books will fill in those gaps and entertain quite nicely。 Heartless is a good start to another series from Showalter。 。。。more

What a wonderful fantasy blending mortal and Fae worlds! I loved both Cookie and Kaysar as troubled/imperfect main characters and thoroughly enjoyed the other quirky supporting ones。 Although quite dark and violent at times, the enlightenment at the end was quite satisfying。

Look。 I honestly thought I was reading The Warlord by Gena Showalter for the first few chapters…then I was like, “Wait。 I thought she was supposed to be a harpy…” So I figured it out and kept reading。 This one is a cute story about Cookie, a ruthless gamer girl, who receives a heart transplant from a fey。 A fey that Kaysar, the king of the fey court of Midnight is hunting。 They are both not good with people and each other, but recognize and honor each others strengths, which I thought was very f Look。 I honestly thought I was reading The Warlord by Gena Showalter for the first few chapters…then I was like, “Wait。 I thought she was supposed to be a harpy…” So I figured it out and kept reading。 This one is a cute story about Cookie, a ruthless gamer girl, who receives a heart transplant from a fey。 A fey that Kaysar, the king of the fey court of Midnight is hunting。 They are both not good with people and each other, but recognize and honor each others strengths, which I thought was very fun。 One of my pet peeves though, is when the only gay characters are pedophiles。 That’s just not cool and perpetuates a stereotype。 C’mon, please show someone in a healthy, pan/bi/same-sexual relationship。 It’s mildly sexy。 I always wish there could be more, but I enjoyed the travel through the fey realms, battling mystical creatures, and the fight scenes。 Now to read The Warlord…-FordCW: one of the characters experienced childhood assault and it’s heavily implied。 。。。more

I love fantasy worlds and nobody can make me feel more a part of them then Gena! Kaysar is most definitely nuts but "seeing" him learn new love is very endearing。 Cookie is a total badass and I wish I had her ability with plants! I listened to this one。 It was great。 I really hope we’ll get another trip to Astoria。 The writing is epic, our alpha extra growly and Cookie was a super great heroine。 Really, really recommend!

I'm never really sure about a new series and whether it'll work out for me or not。 While I love action, adventure, and of course romance & humor。。。that doesn't mean I'll exclusively love anything in that genre。 Kaysar & Cookie don't disappoint and while he's categorically a dick she calls him out on it。 Cookie's devotion to her people (even Kaysar) is wonderful and I appreciate her willingness to support and move on if necessary。 I even stopped hating Jareth at some point。。。go figure。 The whole I'm never really sure about a new series and whether it'll work out for me or not。 While I love action, adventure, and of course romance & humor。。。that doesn't mean I'll exclusively love anything in that genre。 Kaysar & Cookie don't disappoint and while he's categorically a dick she calls him out on it。 Cookie's devotion to her people (even Kaysar) is wonderful and I appreciate her willingness to support and move on if necessary。 I even stopped hating Jareth at some point。。。go figure。 The whole dresses thing was awesome。 。。。more

DNF @ 45%I chose to pick this one up this because I love fae books。 I've enjoyed Gena Showalter's work in the past and I do enjoy paranormal romances here and there。 However, this was intolerable。 There is essentially no plot in this story except for the characters thinking about sex and talking about sex。 I'm not a prude or anything, but I really need more depth to characters and a story for it to work for me。 This is a bummer, because I absolutely loved this author's Lords of the Underworld se DNF @ 45%I chose to pick this one up this because I love fae books。 I've enjoyed Gena Showalter's work in the past and I do enjoy paranormal romances here and there。 However, this was intolerable。 There is essentially no plot in this story except for the characters thinking about sex and talking about sex。 I'm not a prude or anything, but I really need more depth to characters and a story for it to work for me。 This is a bummer, because I absolutely loved this author's Lords of the Underworld series。 Sadly this one just wasn't a fun read and I found myself dreading reading。 So it's a DNF for me。 Thank you to HQN Books and NetGalley for sending me a copy in exchange for a review。 。。。more
