Summary

It’s the rematch everybody wanted — but not like this! The Hulk is broken, friendless and hunted。 In every way, he’s a shadow of his former self…but there’s nothing like the real Thing! What will happen when Ben Grimm enters the world of the immortal Hulk? As the year comes to an end, costs are counted — by Jackie McGee, Eugene Judd…and Samuel Sterns。 All the Leader’s plans have finally come together in what may be his greatest triumph! But will that be enough…or will the One Below All still claim his due? Plus, the U-Foes are here — and they know how to finally kill the Hulk! And as the new Sasquatch faces something even weirder than himself, Henry Peter Gyrich watches from somewhere far above the world…

89%✅Absolutely loved this volume。 Easily one of the best volumes written by Al Ewing。 Leader is a great villain。 Just love the twists he does。 It’s extremely entertaining, it feels fresh and bew。 Hits the marks which we’ve been missing from this run。 That last page gave me goosebumps。 Just off a 90 because it lacks in story at time。 Just isn’t up to par with the other comics I rated up there。 loved the weakness of hulk they show and what he has up there in his mind。 Very interested to see what’s 89%✅Absolutely loved this volume。 Easily one of the best volumes written by Al Ewing。 Leader is a great villain。 Just love the twists he does。 It’s extremely entertaining, it feels fresh and bew。 Hits the marks which we’ve been missing from this run。 That last page gave me goosebumps。 Just off a 90 because it lacks in story at time。 Just isn’t up to par with the other comics I rated up there。 loved the weakness of hulk they show and what he has up there in his mind。 Very interested to see what’s coming next。Writing: 8Plot: 9Script: 8Art: 10Coloring: 10Inking: 8Layout: 9Entertainment: 10Immortal hulk volume ranking:Volume 4: 92%Volume 9: 89%Volume 2: 87%Volume 8: 85%Volume 3: 83%Volume 7: 79%Volume 5: 75%Volume 6: 74%Volume 1: 71% 。。。more

Another crazy Volume of the Immortal Hulk。 This one was at least entertaining。。。The story revolves mostly around three points: 1) Gyrich and Gamma Flight, a disgraced version of Carol-less Alpha Flight, and their hunt not only for Hulk but also to cure Doc Samson。 2) Gray Hulk in a Banner-like body, who changes into weak and scrawny Hulk at times。 Gyrich sends the Ur-Men after him when Gamma Flight doesn't produce results quick enough。 AND 3) Banner trapped in hell with a Hulked up version of Th Another crazy Volume of the Immortal Hulk。 This one was at least entertaining。。。The story revolves mostly around three points: 1) Gyrich and Gamma Flight, a disgraced version of Carol-less Alpha Flight, and their hunt not only for Hulk but also to cure Doc Samson。 2) Gray Hulk in a Banner-like body, who changes into weak and scrawny Hulk at times。 Gyrich sends the Ur-Men after him when Gamma Flight doesn't produce results quick enough。 AND 3) Banner trapped in hell with a Hulked up version of The Leader。At the end, Banner escapes Hell and is resurrected through a Hulk body, Grey Hulk's personality manifests in the Red Hulk body, who shatters a limitation on Banner, and releases the huge, super strong Hulk (maybe Devil or Incredible)。 Sounds like the last two Volumes will contain lots of smashing。 At least for me, maybe this book will be really worth it again。Recommend。。。 the title is getting good again。(PS I know many people love this title。。。 see my previous reviews。) 。。。more

Another great Immortal Hulk trade, where again my only complaints are it was done too soon and ended on a cliffhanger。 The various Hulks have been split up with Banner stuck in the Gamma afterlife while Joe Fixit (in Banner's body) and a very weak Savage Hulk are stuck on Earth, alternating who has control of the body at any given moment。 The Leader is finding some kind of ascension below, and the U-Foes are back。 All that and a great chat between the Hulk and the Thing。 When's the next trade co Another great Immortal Hulk trade, where again my only complaints are it was done too soon and ended on a cliffhanger。 The various Hulks have been split up with Banner stuck in the Gamma afterlife while Joe Fixit (in Banner's body) and a very weak Savage Hulk are stuck on Earth, alternating who has control of the body at any given moment。 The Leader is finding some kind of ascension below, and the U-Foes are back。 All that and a great chat between the Hulk and the Thing。 When's the next trade coming out? 。。。more

This volume was a ton of set up for the final arc coming in volume 10 of Immortal Hulk。 Saying it is set up isn't bad though it didn't do a lot for me other than some great moments。 One on a ship where someone is going to go to drastic measures to prove himself。 A meeting with The Hulk and The Thing is pretty great too。 The final few moments are promising big things are coming for the Hulk because something is born from all this terribleness。 It's a lot though。 At this point the series almost DE This volume was a ton of set up for the final arc coming in volume 10 of Immortal Hulk。 Saying it is set up isn't bad though it didn't do a lot for me other than some great moments。 One on a ship where someone is going to go to drastic measures to prove himself。 A meeting with The Hulk and The Thing is pretty great too。 The final few moments are promising big things are coming for the Hulk because something is born from all this terribleness。 It's a lot though。 At this point the series almost DEMANDS a re-read to get it all。 I do plan on picking up the Omnibus when it comes out to really get the full scope of this series。 Because reading them so far apart it doesn't always hit the highs as if you read it all in one go。 Saying that, still a solid volume。 。。。more

Another great volume of Immortal, although it wasn’t perfect。 The issue with the guest artists felt like filler story-wise, although the guest artists themselves did good work and the changes weren’t jarring。 The highlight was the encounter with the Thing, which really hit home with Joe’s cry of rage at Ben that stops the fight and takes the whole thing to the next level。As a total Alpha Flight fanatic, it was great to see Shaman turn up。 The developments with Walt and Leonard were intriguing, t Another great volume of Immortal, although it wasn’t perfect。 The issue with the guest artists felt like filler story-wise, although the guest artists themselves did good work and the changes weren’t jarring。 The highlight was the encounter with the Thing, which really hit home with Joe’s cry of rage at Ben that stops the fight and takes the whole thing to the next level。As a total Alpha Flight fanatic, it was great to see Shaman turn up。 The developments with Walt and Leonard were intriguing, too。If I could, I’d give this volume 4。5 stars but I’m rounding up based on the overall quality of the series。At least Bennett’s antisemitic artwork was edited out of the digital version。 I can definitely do without that crap…My next book: The White Elephant Mystery 。。。more

Not the strongest volume in what will be known as one of the best runs of Hulk ever。 This is the quiet before the storm in the final five issues。

Mostly feels like setup for the finale (we're just one volume away!), but it's interesting to see the new dynamic between Joe and the Big Guy, and we get some interesting developments for the supporting cast。 Plus the return of some obscure Hulk foes, and a heck of a place to leave off。。。 (B+) Mostly feels like setup for the finale (we're just one volume away!), but it's interesting to see the new dynamic between Joe and the Big Guy, and we get some interesting developments for the supporting cast。 Plus the return of some obscure Hulk foes, and a heck of a place to leave off。。。 (B+) 。。。more

The revitalization of the Hulk continues。 Amazing stuff。

The Ben Grimm appearance is amazing, so much fun。 The art is particularly great in this volume and the Alpha Team members are super cool。 As per usual, I really enjoy seeing the way DID plays out in Banner and how the various Hulks interact。

3。5Still love the horror but the story just felt weaker in this TPB。

Like the previous volume, this one just didn't do it for me。 This did not feel like a complete arc in any sense, and Marvel's penchant for putting out collections that are 5-6 issues long is doing the end of Ewing's run a disservice。 These issues feel like mostly filler as we lead up to。。。well, I don't know。 I can't see from where this volume ends how this series will be able to wrap up satisfactorily in just 5 more issues。 As for this volume, it was more of the same--body horror that isn't quit Like the previous volume, this one just didn't do it for me。 This did not feel like a complete arc in any sense, and Marvel's penchant for putting out collections that are 5-6 issues long is doing the end of Ewing's run a disservice。 These issues feel like mostly filler as we lead up to。。。well, I don't know。 I can't see from where this volume ends how this series will be able to wrap up satisfactorily in just 5 more issues。 As for this volume, it was more of the same--body horror that isn't quite doing it for me anymore and my just wanting to give poor Hulk a hug。 It was fun to see the U-Foes and the Thing make appearances, though。 。。。more

This series may never disappoint me。 Though I have heard the sad news it's coming to a close。 Cates and Ewing are trading places on books, if I've heard right。 Ewing is going to Venom next。For now, right here, know that the storytelling is still top shelf and delivers on all fronts。 This series may never disappoint me。 Though I have heard the sad news it's coming to a close。 Cates and Ewing are trading places on books, if I've heard right。 Ewing is going to Venom next。For now, right here, know that the storytelling is still top shelf and delivers on all fronts。 。。。more

Having transitioned from reading comics month to month to waiting for the trades to come out, sometimes the pacing is notably different than it would be at the more consistent issue-a-month rate。 I think because of that this collection wound up feeling sort of transitional, like a bridge between the last volume and (single tear) the upcoming tenth and final volume, rather than it’s own chapter or story。But this book still remains the absolute benchmark and every time I read it I feel like I’m in Having transitioned from reading comics month to month to waiting for the trades to come out, sometimes the pacing is notably different than it would be at the more consistent issue-a-month rate。 I think because of that this collection wound up feeling sort of transitional, like a bridge between the last volume and (single tear) the upcoming tenth and final volume, rather than it’s own chapter or story。But this book still remains the absolute benchmark and every time I read it I feel like I’m interacting with a living classic。 Going to go back and reread everything before the final volume is out later this year and I can’t wait to go on that ride。 。。。more

The first misstep in Immortal Hulk。 There’s Bennett’s problematic art, of course。 But also some confusing storytelling and bad pacing。 Highlight is 41, which has a great conversation with The Thing。

The establishment pushback continues, whether manifest through Marvel's long-standing institutional dickhead Henry Peter Gyrich screwing over Gamma Flight in favour of operatives less constricted by conscience, or Jackie McGee's paper going the way of so much local journalism lately, a man in a suit telling her how much he loves her work before the other shoe drops: "The board feels the Herald would benefit from pivoting。 Less of a print presence。。。less emphasis on investigative reporting。 And o The establishment pushback continues, whether manifest through Marvel's long-standing institutional dickhead Henry Peter Gyrich screwing over Gamma Flight in favour of operatives less constricted by conscience, or Jackie McGee's paper going the way of so much local journalism lately, a man in a suit telling her how much he loves her work before the other shoe drops: "The board feels the Herald would benefit from pivoting。 Less of a print presence。。。less emphasis on investigative reporting。 And obviously, we'd need to adjust your salary。 But let's think of it as a fresh start。 How do you feel about lists? Fun, right?" Meanwhile, the Hulk is still low on alters and even lower on options; drained of gamma, he's a long way from the strongest one there is, and if he transforms again, he's basically screwed。 Still, as a character he's famous for being able to keep a lid on that sort of thing, right?Oh。My timing was such that I ended up with the early print of issue 43, the one with art details in one panel which could be construed as anti-Semitic。 What the reports on this didn't mention was that, just for extra WTF value, the same issue's letter column also featured a letter from a rabbi。 Applauding the book for bringing back the spirit of EC。 Which, I guess that's one way of putting it? Even if some flavours of outrage play a lot worse than others these days。 。。。more

Rumor has it that death and the Hulk are no longer on speaking terms。” The (potentially?) penultimate arc of this saga forsakes some of the horror stylings of the earlier stories for something slightly more in line with standard superhero fare, but even in its most stripped down form, the Immortal Hulk is still one of the strongest books in Marvel’s roster。

Honestly I've totally lost track of the overarching plot machinations of this series, but it doesn't matter, the psychological and/or body horror is still so damn good, Banner's, ah, personal problems manifesting on a mythical-cosmological level。 Even this far in, they're still managing to find new horrifying and/or stunning imagery。 I'm assuming they've got something big planned for the final volume, but even that aside, this series is one of the all-time greats。 Honestly I've totally lost track of the overarching plot machinations of this series, but it doesn't matter, the psychological and/or body horror is still so damn good, Banner's, ah, personal problems manifesting on a mythical-cosmological level。 Even this far in, they're still managing to find new horrifying and/or stunning imagery。 I'm assuming they've got something big planned for the final volume, but even that aside, this series is one of the all-time greats。 。。。more
