Summary

Ella to zupełne przeciwieństwo Clare。

Olśniewająca。 Młoda。 Wpływowa。 I zna tajemnicę Clare, która może zniszczyć całą rodzinę。。。 Jest jednak ktoś, kto zrobi wszystko, by ten głęboko skrywany sekret nigdy nie wyszedł na jaw。

There was a lot of time spent defining the family dynamic。 I wanted less on that and more at the end - what happened after she eats supper with Dan? More on the divorce etc。 Overall, worth the read!

GrippingBrilliant read, loved the twist, would love to know outcome of end of book。 Liked to have seen Claire and Jamie get together

Not my favorite mystery。 The characters annoyed me and I basically figured out the main plot twists。 Plus the ending didn’t really resolve anything。

A pretty decent book。 While Clare and her family, including her philandering husband Dan, are on holiday in Italy, Dan's younger brother shows up with his new wife, the Instagram "model" Ella, who for some reason, only Clare can see is not what she seems。 She is stirring up drama everywhere and has taken an instant and intense dislike to Clare specifically, but everyone else thinks she is wonderful。 But Clare has a secret, and apparently Ella knows this secret。 But don't they all have secrets? 。。。more

The writing is pretty poor, and the main character doesn't make any sense。 The choices she makes when confronted with uncomfortable/awkward/mean situations with her sister in law are just ludicrous。 No adult would make those choices。 But I guess the story is decent enough, too bad it could have been done so much better。 The writing is pretty poor, and the main character doesn't make any sense。 The choices she makes when confronted with uncomfortable/awkward/mean situations with her sister in law are just ludicrous。 No adult would make those choices。 But I guess the story is decent enough, too bad it could have been done so much better。 。。。more

I am not a politician, but I am going to talk like one: I did not say Sue Watson is the better writer to have ever lived since William Shakespeare (though I think this guy is just over-hyped。) The only reason I have picked her books three times consecutively is because the first two were unputdownable, my words exactly。 I even intimated that she is my new fave。 I did not say that。 I was just reeling from a grueling drawing of divorce papers from another writer and I fell for the next thing that I am not a politician, but I am going to talk like one: I did not say Sue Watson is the better writer to have ever lived since William Shakespeare (though I think this guy is just over-hyped。) The only reason I have picked her books three times consecutively is because the first two were unputdownable, my words exactly。 I even intimated that she is my new fave。 I did not say that。 I was just reeling from a grueling drawing of divorce papers from another writer and I fell for the next thing that came my way。 I do not love Sue Watson, not anymore。In this book, The Sister-in-Law, she has really disappointed me。 I was listening to an audiobook, and the first turnoff was the voice of the narrator - it was like a drawn-out drawl, but I said, 'What the heck, it's just a not-so-nice voice to listen to, my partner snores in bed yet I sleep next to her every night'。 Five good hours into this boring story and all you get are complains, complains, and more complains of an insecure woman about her (im)perfect family。 Nothing to hold you glued to the story, redundant phrases and tautology like 'I NODDED MY HEAD' (what else can you nod? Your ass?!) - and I just couldn't take it。 I must say I stopped like 13 times, watched some funny videos on YouTube and still got back to it, but well, at the 7th hour (precisely 7:00:59), I gave up。 True, I went through some reviews and all is four-stars, and I wonder, 'Who the hell paid these readers to up the reviews?' Don't be cheated on your time, it's not worth it; even if you are promised a mind-blowing explosive twist in the end。 Why endure all that for a promise of a good ending?HERE'S THE GIST OF IT: Clare has had a tough year, and she can't wait to go on a holiday for the much needed break。 When they get to the Italian villa for their summer holiday, she decides it's high time her husband and his family did some of the work。 Her husband, Dan, has put her through hell in the past, including having an affair, but he's realised the error of his ways。 He's here now, and he says it's for keeps。 However, Dan's brother, Jamie, the prodigal child, is back in the family fold again, after years of travelling abroad。 But when he gets to the villa, he's not alone。 He's brought a wife, someone none of them have met before - Ella。Ella is everything Clare isn't。 Glamorous。 Young。 Influential。 An Instagram Queen。 And Clare hates her right off。 Clare is suspicious of Ella all along, always watching her like a hawk。 And that's where all the whining about her sister in law emanates。 Mara Ella has stolen their mother-in-law's jewelry, or she is teaching the children not to eat meet because she is vegan; mara Ella has said Clare's career is not nursing but bed-making (lol - who does this anymore?), and all。 That, is as far as I went。 Well, there is a promise of an explosive ending。 Go on if you want。 Me, I quit。 。。。more

This was just an okay story。 All the characters are just terrible people in their own way, I felt no connection to any of them。 As for the plot twists。。。 I wasn't surprised by any of them。 It was all obvious from the very beginning。However, I will say I am willing to read more from the author。 I feel like she really has potential and this story just wasn't her most epic。 This was just an okay story。 All the characters are just terrible people in their own way, I felt no connection to any of them。 As for the plot twists。。。 I wasn't surprised by any of them。 It was all obvious from the very beginning。However, I will say I am willing to read more from the author。 I feel like she really has potential and this story just wasn't her most epic。 。。。more

As every year, Clare is on vacation with her extended family。 Her husband cheated on her and wants to get her marriage back to normal。 And this year there is a new guest。 Her husband’s brother brings in a new bride。 And then strange things happen。 It really is a psychological war。 When you think it’s over, it’s not over yet。 An intensive book。 Who can we trust? You can only trust yourself

Total Rollercoaster and unrealized potentialIt was hard for me to get immersed for about the first 10 chapters。 Then it got *really good* and I was turning the pages as quickly as possible, excited and impatient for more twists and turns。 The ending was starting to get really good, and then I felt like I was missing a final chapter。 Terrible closure。 Overall meh。 So much potential wasted。

Second book I have read by this author。 Such a fun, easy read。 Again, as with the first book I read by this author, the plot was a bit predictable。 Maybe this author leaves too many foreshadowing clues for me, as I’m usually not so astute! But overall, definitely worth a read if you enjoy this genre。 I certainly do!

I found this a slower-paced thriller that read more like a family drama, albeit a very dysfunctional family drama。 Filled with a cast of unlikeable people, all on the world’s worst family vacation in Italy, the stereotypes abound。 Whether the overinvolved mother-in-law who turns a blind eye to her womanizing son, the irresponsible and flighty younger brother, the insecure and neurotic older wife, the bratty children, or the beguiling new sister-in-law; they are all horrible。 Despite the lunacy o I found this a slower-paced thriller that read more like a family drama, albeit a very dysfunctional family drama。 Filled with a cast of unlikeable people, all on the world’s worst family vacation in Italy, the stereotypes abound。 Whether the overinvolved mother-in-law who turns a blind eye to her womanizing son, the irresponsible and flighty younger brother, the insecure and neurotic older wife, the bratty children, or the beguiling new sister-in-law; they are all horrible。 Despite the lunacy of the antagonist and supportive annoying characters, something about the way this audiobook was narrated kept me engaged。 Each time I began to tire of it, a new plot twist popped up。 Some were predictable, but one specifically, was not。 Three stars for the writing, and four for the narration which had me simultaneoulsly intrigued and frustrated with the protagonist。 。。。more
