Summary

Magic, monsters, and mayhem abound when Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase meet Carter and Sadie Kane for the first time。 Weird creatures are appearing in unexpected places, and the demigods and magicians have to team up to take them down。 As they battle with Celestial Bronze and glowing hieroglyphs, the four heroes find that they have a lot in common--and more power than they ever thought possible。 But will their combined forces be enough to foil an ancient enemy who is mixing Greek and Egyptian incantations for an evil purpose? Rick Riordan wields his usual storytelling magic in this adrenaline-fueled adventure。

I finished this in a day。 Today, specifically。I also decided to buy and reread the entire series, because I missed this world and Rick Riordan's incredible writing。I foresee much expense in my immediate future。 I finished this in a day。 Today, specifically。I also decided to buy and reread the entire series, because I missed this world and Rick Riordan's incredible writing。I foresee much expense in my immediate future。 。。。more

This wraps up some things that were left open-ended at the end of the Kane Chronicles, like Setne still being on the loose with the Book of Thoth。 It was also interesting seeing the combination of Greek and Egyptian lore。 Unfortunately it didn't really stand out among Riordan's writing even if the concept was fair enough, and I feel as though it could have been developed better and more time could have been spent with the different characters actually getting to know one another。 Instead, especi This wraps up some things that were left open-ended at the end of the Kane Chronicles, like Setne still being on the loose with the Book of Thoth。 It was also interesting seeing the combination of Greek and Egyptian lore。 Unfortunately it didn't really stand out among Riordan's writing even if the concept was fair enough, and I feel as though it could have been developed better and more time could have been spent with the different characters actually getting to know one another。 Instead, especially in the case of Annabeth and Sadie, we have an almost immediate trust which didn't really sit well with me, and it all felt a little rushed。 。。。more

Whilst it had an interesting story plot between the mash up of Greek and Egyptian it wasn’t enough to keep me hooked or really want to know what happens。 Its suppose to be 3 mini stories but really it was just like 3 long chapters

I feel very sad for the people who have not read this story。But I'm much sadder for those who have not read The Kane Chronicles。This crossover between demigods and magicians gave me thousands of life。I highly recommend it。5 ESTRELLAS。 I feel very sad for the people who have not read this story。But I'm much sadder for those who have not read The Kane Chronicles。This crossover between demigods and magicians gave me thousands of life。I highly recommend it。5 ESTRELLAS。 。。。more

“I’d have to play this smart … which was not my usual style。” This is a fun crossover between Percy Jackson's and the Kane's world。 My main problem, however, is that I don't really like the Kanes。 Ancient Egypt is one of the most interesting cultures and I wish there were more fiction books about it。 That's also why I was all the more disappointed when I didn't like The Kane Chronicles that much - a lot of people had mentioned that Riordan's Egypt series isn't as good as Percy Jackson, yet I h “I’d have to play this smart … which was not my usual style。” This is a fun crossover between Percy Jackson's and the Kane's world。 My main problem, however, is that I don't really like the Kanes。 Ancient Egypt is one of the most interesting cultures and I wish there were more fiction books about it。 That's also why I was all the more disappointed when I didn't like The Kane Chronicles that much - a lot of people had mentioned that Riordan's Egypt series isn't as good as Percy Jackson, yet I hoped the books would prove me wrong。 It's not that they were bad, but it was difficult to get through them as I simply didn't like the main characters。When I started Demigods & Magicians, I was constantly reminded of how disappointed I was with The Kane Chronicles。 Having Carter as the first narrator didn't help, but I suppose it could have been worse; Sadie didn't get any narration and, given that I never warmed up to her, I was glad of that。Putting aside the fact that I don't like the Kanes, this really was a fun crossover。 It consists of short stories so I can't say I enjoyed it as much as Riordan's full-length novels, but I thought they were well structured and detailed given their length。 It was nice to see some Egyptian gods again and of course just seeing Percy and Annabeth in action again。 In regards to Percy's thoughts of having children someday: please don't let them be like Sadie Kane。 。。。more

4。5Loved this!! It was such a fun time and a great way to end my Riordan readathon。 It took the best parts of the Kane Chronicles (Carter/Sadie, Setne) and left behind the annoying romances。 I loved seeing them interact with Percy and Annabeth, which is obviously the point。 The main fun is the characters, but the plot was also enjoyable, if predictable。 Nothing groundbreaking happens, but it's tons of fun and I enjoyed every bit of it。 4。5Loved this!! The Greek demigods and the Egyptian magicians have finally met。 This complete book tells three stories depicting Percy, Annabeth, Carter, and Sadie's meeting to fight a whole new villain。 It was surely fun reading it, but I just think that it was completely unnecessary。 The Greek demigods and the Egyptian magicians have finally met。 This complete book tells three stories depicting Percy, Annabeth, Carter, and Sadie's meeting to fight a whole new villain。 It was surely fun reading it, but I just think that it was completely unnecessary。 。。。more

‘Demigods and Magicians’ is a collection of three novellas united by a simple premise: what would happen if Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase from ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians’ series met with Carter and Sadie Kane from ‘The Kane Chronicles’? What kind of adventures they would have together – and what would happen when Greek and Egyptian worlds collide? I would definitely recommend reading these three stories in one collection, as they don’t just chronicle separate adventures of our favourite heroes。 Instead, they are interconnected by the common thread that twines through them all and resolves itself in a fantastic final。‘The Son of Sobek’ – 4 stars。 The shortest story with linear plot and practically no twists。 It was fun, but to me, interactions between Carter and Percy, from their clash over a misunderstanding and following fight to their team up and banter during their battle with petsuchos, the eponymous son of Sobek, were the best part。 However, when it came to the main plot and the battle with petsuchos, it felt kinda average。 Granted, a demigod and a magician fighting a truck-sized godly crocodile cannot be boring by definition, and it was engaging to follow, but I read enough monster-fighting scenes by Rick Riordan, and this one didn’t exactly stand out。‘The Staff of Serapis’ – 5 stars。 Again, interactions between Annabeth and Sadie really shined throughout the story, especially when you compare them to Percy and Carter’s relationship。 While the boys came to trust each other after fighting side by side, they still parted on neutral terms, not revealing anything to each other but their names。 Sadie and Annabeth, on the other hand, clicked immediately – and after helping each other in battle and seeing that the other is not an ordinary human, just shared everything they knew about their worlds。 The scene when Annabeth and Sadie sat down and tried to understand the madness that was each other’s lives was really hilarious! The main plot didn’t disappoint, either – after Annabeth encounters a two-headed monster in the subway and follows it, she runs into Sadie, and the girls discover this monster is actually the least of their troubles… Because Serapis, the god created by Ptolemy by melding Greek and Egyptian beliefs, had awakened, and he intends to reclaim his position as the most important god in both pantheons – and in his plans, there is no place for any other gods but him。 Despite the constricting format of a novella, Serapis turned out to be a formidable villain。 Since Serapis is both Greek and Egyptian god, he has power over magic possessed by both demigods and the magicians of House of Life and can be harmed by none。 Eventually, it takes everything our heroes have and then some to defeat him, and that’s where the dynamic between Sadie and Annabeth becomes especially interesting。 (view spoiler)[As a magician, Sadie is much more powerful than Annabeth, whose only strength is her intelligence, and it’s true that Sadie’s magic saved them more than once – but in the end, it was Annabeth who found a way to destroy Serapis and saved the day。 (hide spoiler)] There was even space for some character development for Annabeth as she is tempted by Serapis’ offer to recreate the great library of Alexandria and doubts whether destroying his magical staff is the right thing, and while it wasn’t very profound, I enjoyed this insight into Annabeth’s inner thoughts。 ‘The Crown of Ptolemy’ – 4。5 stars。 As this is the final story in the collection, all the threads from ‘The Son of Sobek’ and ‘The Staff of Serapis’ are coming together when Percy, Annabeth and the Kanes face the one who had been pulling the strings from behind the scene and causing all the trouble with Greek and Egyptian magic: Setne, the long-dead magician who escaped from Carter and Sadie in ‘The Serpent's Shadow’ – by the way, I’m also endlessly pleased how his involvement connects the stories to ‘The Kane Chronicles’ and ties another loose thread from the series。 Setne is a dangerous enemy, as he learns from his predecessors’ mistakes and has ‘Book of Thoth’ to aide him – and he is using it to claim the crown of Ptolemy and make himself a god。While I admit that Setne seemed to be too powerful compared to other godly enemies both demigods and magicians faced before, the way he mixed Greek and Egyptian magic was completely unique – and so to beat him, the heroes had to turn his own weapons against him, combining their powers and abilities。 (view spoiler)[Again, sometimes melding completely different techniques seemed to come too easily for the heroes – like how Sadie was able to evoke Egyptian magic by reading a Greek word, or how Annabeth was able to do magic through the bond shared with Sadie, - but the very idea was brilliant。 Plus, Percy and his team gained an unusual godly ally – I certainly didn’t expect Nekhbet, the vulture goddess, to fight alongside them, not to mention Percy hosting her! That was no small feat, because even though Nekhbet detests Setne and wants him stopped as much as our heroes, she is still a cynical, pitiless predator used to praying on the weak, and her co-habiting Percy’s head is more of a struggle than smooth teamwork。 It’s a credit to Percy’s willpower that he managed to keep Nekhbet under control while also battling Setne – and what really impressed me is that despite Nekhbet’s assistance, in the end it all came down to Percy resisting Setne and overcoming his trap on his own。 The heroes didn’t win because they were more powerful – they won because they were morally strong enough to reject Setne’s temptations。 (hide spoiler)]This story is narrated by Percy Jackson, and while I enjoyed Carter and Annabeth’s PoVs, I didn’t realize how much I missed Percy’s sarcastic remarks and jokes until I heard his voice again。 His narrative is outright hilarious, and I laughed many times throughout the story。 Again, Rick Riordan excels at writing interactions between the gang, and it was very nice to see their relationships develop。 Annabeth and Sadie’s friendship, Percy teasing Carter, the respect and admiration that Percy developed for Sadie – and of course, there’s Percy and Annabeth’s relationship。 It’s clear from Percy’s PoV how much he loves and values Annabeth, and that blink-and-you-miss-it moment when (view spoiler)[Annabeth offers herself up as Nekhbet’s host instead of Percy, even though the experience could possibly melt one’s brain (hide spoiler)]? This is all just too precious。Overall rating – 4。5 stars rounded up to 5 stars。 。。。more

This is amazing! There are three short stories—The Son of Sobek (Percy meets Carter), The Staff of Serapis (Annabeth meets Sadie), and The Crown of Ptolemy (All four of them work together against Setne, who I hate)。 The short stories are so good that even though I read all three in The Kane Chronicles, I still read them two times afterwards。 I also loved looking at the pictures。 You really get a good idea of what everyone looks like。This is a great book of short stories to read if you have read This is amazing! I swear Rick Riordan is the god of short story collections。Loved the three short stories in which we say Carter and Percy fight the son of Sobek, then Sadie and Annabeth fight Serapis and then all four fight Setne with both Egyptian and Greek Magic。I loved the concept of convincing both magic systems which are so different so overall this is a wonderful addition to the PJO/HOO/TKC etc universe

Me ha gustado mucho, pero me ha parecido que Carter y Percy fueron un poco tontos al no poder descifrar las pistas que se dieron el uno al otro。

I’m so here for this。 It’s basically fan fiction Rick Riordan wrote about his own works。
