Summary

When Charles Wycombe, the dashing and incorrigible Earl of Billington, toppled out of a tree and landed at Ellie Lyndon‘s feet, neither suspected that such an inauspicious meeting would lead to marriage。 But Charles must find a bride before his thirtieth birthday or he’ll lose his fortune。 And Ellie needs a husband or her father’s odious fiancée will choose one for her。 And so they agree to wed, even though their match appears to have been made somewhere hotter than heaven…

Ellie never dreamed she’d marry a stranger, especially one with such a devastating combination of rakish charm and debonair wit。 She tries to keep him at arm’s length, at least until she discovers the man beneath the handsome surface。 But Charles can be quite persusasive—even tender—when he puts his mind to it, and Ellie finds herself slipping under his seductive spell。 And as one kiss leads to another, this unlikely pair discovers that their marriage is not so inconvenient after all… and just might lead to love。

Really only 2 1/2Obviously very early JQ。 The dialogue is witty and amusing, that’s the 1/2 star。 Charles is adorable, that’s worth a star。 The rest is only 1 star。 Boring, predictable, and completely without that beautiful sexual tension we love so much in her later, much better, books。 I enjoy her books so much, I want to read them all。 But you don’t have to。 The first Lyndon sister is so bad it’s painful, and the second isn’t worth your time。 Makes me wonder how she ever got published in the Really only 2 1/2Obviously very early JQ。 The dialogue is witty and amusing, that’s the 1/2 star。 Charles is adorable, that’s worth a star。 The rest is only 1 star。 Boring, predictable, and completely without that beautiful sexual tension we love so much in her later, much better, books。 I enjoy her books so much, I want to read them all。 But you don’t have to。 The first Lyndon sister is so bad it’s painful, and the second isn’t worth your time。 Makes me wonder how she ever got published in the first place, much less created some of my favorite books。 But, I’m thankful she did。 。。。more

I always love Julia Quinn, but this one felt a little unfocused。 Too many little random storylines。

After the absolutely abysmal (in my opinion) Everything and the Moon, I was pleasantly surprised by Brighter than the Sun。 It started a little slow, but Ellie and Charles’ love story was delightful to follow。There was nothing too unique or surprising about it, but the characters were good, even if Ellie can be very rambly at points and Charles is slightly one-dimensional (there’s just not much to him)。 I liked the heroine’s friendship with Judith and Helen, and her dynamic with Claire was well w After the absolutely abysmal (in my opinion) Everything and the Moon, I was pleasantly surprised by Brighter than the Sun。 It started a little slow, but Ellie and Charles’ love story was delightful to follow。There was nothing too unique or surprising about it, but the characters were good, even if Ellie can be very rambly at points and Charles is slightly one-dimensional (there’s just not much to him)。 I liked the heroine’s friendship with Judith and Helen, and her dynamic with Claire was well written and it was lovely to see them grow to become friends, although the stunts Claire was pulling seemed a little immature for JQ。The Lyndon sisters duet as a whole definitely aren’t my favourite Julia Quinn books, but Brighter than the Sun was enjoyable to read, which I cannot say for Everything and the Moon。This was just a nice book with a sweet love story。3。5 stars, rounded down。 。。。more

Much much better than everything and the moon which was, sadly, quite repetitive and boring。 Brighter was delightful and, as are the majority of Quinn’s novels, entertaining and attention holding; although there is so much similar sex from book to book that I speed read the sex scenes to get back to the main plot。 (Does this mean I’m getting old?)。 I’m beginning her last solo book now and will have to move to her novellas unless I start the Bridgestone series all over again。

I quite thoroughly enjoyed the story of Ellie and Charles。。。 and yet there was a point at which the sheer unrelenting nature of their individual and combined hurdles and hazards began to wear a bit thin。 I confess to feeling a bit like a battered reader before the end of the tale。 And I found myself annoyed [not for the first time] with the rapid close to the story。 But all that aside, I truly did enjoy this book。 All the threads, connecting each of the characters, were masterfully made。 The hum I quite thoroughly enjoyed the story of Ellie and Charles。。。 and yet there was a point at which the sheer unrelenting nature of their individual and combined hurdles and hazards began to wear a bit thin。 I confess to feeling a bit like a battered reader before the end of the tale。 And I found myself annoyed [not for the first time] with the rapid close to the story。 But all that aside, I truly did enjoy this book。 All the threads, connecting each of the characters, were masterfully made。 The humor, as always, easy to feel and easy to read。 And the villains。。。 well, sometimes they just seal the deal。 。。。more

Very funny and lovely。 A gorgeous man literally falls at Ellie’s feet and asks her to marry him。 Of course he’s rich, handsome and rocky smart。 She isn’t impressed much, but she does need to escape her awful step mother 。。。。。

I love Julia Quinn books, and while this one wasn’t my absolute favorite, it was definitely better than the first in this series of 2。 However, the reason for only 3 stars was the disappointing frequency of typos。

Not worth itIt had an interesting beginning。 It lacked unpredictable action。 It was boring to read。 Save your money for something else。

God this book was repetitive and boring。 I’m not a fan of this early JQ stuff anymore。 I like the Bridgerton series and I liked this book when I read it over 10 years ago but re-reading it now the writing is quite poor。 It is better than Everything and the moon until the ending which was just stupid。 It got boring reading about an injury every other chapter。 The banter between characters was the only thing that kept me reading and even that got repetitive in the end。 It was just too light and fl God this book was repetitive and boring。 I’m not a fan of this early JQ stuff anymore。 I like the Bridgerton series and I liked this book when I read it over 10 years ago but re-reading it now the writing is quite poor。 It is better than Everything and the moon until the ending which was just stupid。 It got boring reading about an injury every other chapter。 The banter between characters was the only thing that kept me reading and even that got repetitive in the end。 It was just too light and fluffy for me to care about the characters。 。。。more

I like how Ellie is determined to know more about Charles before consummate their marriage and Charles agree to it。 What annoys me is how Judith and Claire are not acting their age。 Judith is only 6 years old yet she talks like an adult。 The words she used is not a six-year-old will use。

Lots of action for the very talkative heroine of this Regency Romance! Wondering why swans are on the cover, none mentioned in the book at all, a pet peeve of mine, incorrect cover art。 Always reliable, what Julia Quinn book should I read next?

Julia Quinn's book feel like a warm blanket on a cold day。 Conversely they feel like a cool glass of lemonade on a hot day。 I feel like my reviews of her books are a bit repetitive because they are just very comforting books。 But don't take that as thinking all her books are formulaic or the same。 You just know that everything will be okay in these books and that feels really nice。 Julia Quinn's book feel like a warm blanket on a cold day。 Conversely they feel like a cool glass of lemonade on a hot day。 I feel like my reviews of her books are a bit repetitive because they are just very comforting books。 But don't take that as thinking all her books are formulaic or the same。 You just know that everything will be okay in these books and that feels really nice。 。。。more

Never a dull moment here, whew。 Charles and Ellie were delightful characters and I really liked Judith, too, for all her pluck。There were a few surprises, but there were also many predictable moments, too。

Oh I adored this - read it in under 24 hours。 Sparkling wit, brilliant dialogue and one of my favourite JQ couples。 Heaven - oh and it’s friends to lovers/marriage of convenience which is a fabulous combination。

My favorite Julia Quinn novel yet besides the Bridgerton series。 So loved!

For the first half of this book I didn't like the male lead。 He's obnoxious but eventually he removed his head from his ass and because there was a plot outside of the romance I ended up enjoying it overall。 Loved the female lead from the beginning as well as all of the side characters。 For the first half of this book I didn't like the male lead。 He's obnoxious but eventually he removed his head from his ass and because there was a plot outside of the romance I ended up enjoying it overall。 Loved the female lead from the beginning as well as all of the side characters。 。。。more
