Summary

In the new Eve Dallas police thriller from #1 New York Times-bestselling author J。 D。 Robb, what looked like a lover's quarrel turned fatal has larger--and more terrifying--motives behind it。。。

The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wine glasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in。 But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don't add up。 Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body--but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?

As Eve and her team look into Gwen, her past, and the people around her, they find that the lies are about more than murder。 As with sculpture, they need to chip away at the layers of deception to find the shape within--and soon they're getting the FBI involved in a case that involves a sinister, fanatical group and a stunning criminal conspiracy。

Visiting old friends。 And taking down evil。 A great recipe for a great read。

Alexandra

Boring, trite, rehashed plot。 Phoned in。 Got near the end, didn’t bother to finish。 Unimaginative。

Barbara

At least 4。5 but not quite 5 (given that Shadows is a firm 5)。 Cult。。。。。。。

I could not put this book down。 It had me hooked from the start as all of the In Death books do。 This was fast paced, enjoyable and exciting。

will she ever run out of ideas, or titles with death in itshe makes for an entertaining read, and a fast paced booki tend to skim thro some sections, that are her standard fillers between the actionwonder if eve and roark can ever do wrong? would be a good change

I have always enjoyed this series。 I read the first several years ago and now I jump in when I can。 I'm here for the crimes and the mystery。 I could do without the sex scenes between Roarke and Dallas。 lol But overall I do enjoy this series。 I have always enjoyed this series。 I read the first several years ago and now I jump in when I can。 I'm here for the crimes and the mystery。 I could do without the sex scenes between Roarke and Dallas。 lol But overall I do enjoy this series。 。。。more

Best In Death book in a while! So many interesting details I had to slow down a few times to take it all in。 Thoroughly enjoyed this book。 Bravo!

4。5 stars I was happy to revisit Eve, Roark and the gang, but something was missing so I just couldn’t give this book 5 stars like I have given so many in this series

3。5 stars。 This book was a slow burn。 It took a while to get to the main plot/takedown but was satisfying when it happened。 I wish she had included a small scene regarding the “bar” that Roarke promised

Loved it Eve is back to big cases with a bang。 Fast paced and surprising for all the twists and turns of the story。 Eve Dallas at her best。

Whilst I'm always a fan of the "In Death" series, this one was really excellent。Starting from one woman's murder it leads to a evil misogynistic cult。Most of our favourites make an appearance at some point and the tension never lets up。If you're a fan of the series I don't need to sell this to you, but this is a really strong addition。 Whilst I'm always a fan of the "In Death" series, this one was really excellent。Starting from one woman's murder it leads to a evil misogynistic cult。Most of our favourites make an appearance at some point and the tension never lets up。If you're a fan of the series I don't need to sell this to you, but this is a really strong addition。 。。。more

What a great addition to the series。 I adore Yancy, and getting to see more of him was a special treat。 Loved, loved, loved the fact that Mavis and Leonardo bought a house that includes an in-law apartment where Peabody and McNab are going to live。 This cult was a bunch of sick, misogynistic assholes… sort of like what we’ve all seen in the last five to six years in our country’s powerful players。

Wow。 Eve and company pull out another one。 👍

Can’t get enough of J。D。 RobbAnother great book! Even though these books are written in the future, we are getting closer every day to these very things! I love the “Death” series and will be waiting for the next one! Don’t miss this series! Start with the first and you will be reading for months and years to come!

I’ve got to say this… when the evil people are so very evil, it’s so very good to see justice served。 This one started out a bit confusing but oh my how it led to bigger monsters。 Natural Order…ugh。 I had to walk around and read as I paced bc this one was so…。 Just read it and see! Bravo!

Wanda

Great novel This was about a cult and all the corrupt people involved in it all。 I really liked it but didn’t love it。 Still a solid 4 stars!

52 books into a series, you either like it or you are reading for something specific。 Whichever it is, this one delivers。 The last few installments, while not bad series books, had been somewhat weaker on their own。 This one probably can even stand on its own - if you filter some of the secondary characters (or maybe even with them - we do get a reminder of Mavis's story)。 The novel starts as usual - someone is dead and Eve needs to find justice for them。 Before long, it starts looking like a cu 52 books into a series, you either like it or you are reading for something specific。 Whichever it is, this one delivers。 The last few installments, while not bad series books, had been somewhat weaker on their own。 This one probably can even stand on its own - if you filter some of the secondary characters (or maybe even with them - we do get a reminder of Mavis's story)。 The novel starts as usual - someone is dead and Eve needs to find justice for them。 Before long, it starts looking like a cult is somehow related to the death - and to some other weird happenings in the city。 Before long everyone is involved - the police department, the media (in Nadine's shoes), Roarke (because he is there)。 People keep dying - which never sits well with our heroine。 And what sits even worse with her is abuse - which she finds plenty of in the case。 For a bit I was worried that Robb will get back into the "Eve sees something that reminds her of her past and has terrible nightmares" mode。 While for a few books it made sense, Eve had grown out of it and healed some of those old scars - and thankfully Robb acknowledged that and decided not to go there。 Overall, another good addition to the series, stronger than the last few。 。。。more

In book fifty-two of the popular IN DEATH series, J。 D。 Robb once again proves why these books still are riveting and very recommended。 Robb manages to bring something extra to every book and this is why the books are still top sellers every time out。 Other authors who have had high numbers of books in a series, often become a bit complacent but not Robb。 Her books continue to be top quality and that is what we have in FAITHLESS IN DEATH。 Lt。 Eve Dallas and her ever-present partner Delia Peabody In book fifty-two of the popular IN DEATH series, J。 D。 Robb once again proves why these books still are riveting and very recommended。 Robb manages to bring something extra to every book and this is why the books are still top sellers every time out。 Other authors who have had high numbers of books in a series, often become a bit complacent but not Robb。 Her books continue to be top quality and that is what we have in FAITHLESS IN DEATH。 Lt。 Eve Dallas and her ever-present partner Delia Peabody, have as usual a complex case on their hands。 A sculptress, Ariel Byrd, is found dead in her apartment studio, her head smashed in with a mallet。 It was quite obvious to them that before she was killed, at some point she was enjoying a glass and wine and was sexually active, but it appears as if her partner was female not male。They have reason to suspect that the killer and sexual partner was Gwen Huffman, who went to Ariel's studio for a sitting in preparation of creating a sculpture of herself, as a gift for her husband。 She found the body, but what bothers Dallas and Peabody was the fact that Gwen took over an hour to phone in her reporting of the murder, and she went back to her place and calmly waited for police to arrive。 She told them she was not in her right frame of mind and in shock, but the police do not believe the story。 In fact she becomes the prime suspect。 As the book continues we find that Gwen is associated with parents who are very high up in the cult Natural Order。 Gwen is also part of the cult and Dallas and Peabody surmise that the fact that she was with another woman went against the cult laws and there was some guilt and reckoning involved。 Digging still deeper into other cult members, it is found the cult is fanatical, keeping the women under thumb and making them simply for producing babies。 Children are almost enslaved and the women monitored around the clock as well。 It gets grimmer the more they find out, as it becomes conclusive someone in the cult wanted Ariel Byrd dead。 As Robb always does, she is meticulous in the police work and the manner in which police wear down the guilty until they move in for the big arrest。 It creates great tension and writing, and the guilty topple like dominoes, and good triumphs over evil。 FAITHLESS IN DEATH is another must-read futuristic thriller as only Robb can write。 。。。more

I just finished the Nora Roberts Challenge, and already I’m behind again! Regardless, I picked up the newest In Death book, and Nora Roberts has outdone herself again。 I loved it! It was one of her bigger stories, and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book, especially as Dallas started gearing up for the takedown of the murderers。 Faithless is definitely a must-read!

Another solid read from jd robb。 I always enjoy any book from this series but I especially enjoy the storylines that involve the big takedowns (like icove agenda)。 This one gave me some handmaid's tale vibes, and was a quick read。 Another solid read from jd robb。 I always enjoy any book from this series but I especially enjoy the storylines that involve the big takedowns (like icove agenda)。 This one gave me some handmaid's tale vibes, and was a quick read。 。。。more

I love a JB Robb "in Death" book。 They are my go to for an easy entertaining read but this one struck me as being a little different。 I could see elements of Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's tale but it felt like a different take on a that style of dystopian fiction。 I wondered also about the character of Stanton Wilkey, and also his four children - the genders and familial relationship with each other, in other words two brothers and a sister, plus one younger half brother; seemed all too familiar。 I love a JB Robb "in Death" book。 They are my go to for an easy entertaining read but this one struck me as being a little different。 I could see elements of Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's tale but it felt like a different take on a that style of dystopian fiction。 I wondered also about the character of Stanton Wilkey, and also his four children - the genders and familial relationship with each other, in other words two brothers and a sister, plus one younger half brother; seemed all too familiar。 I've never really picked Nora Roberts, in her guise as JB Robb as making a statement with her themes so I wonder if there was some message she was trying to share。All the usual characters made an appearance, either with major or minor roles。 I look forward to seeing how Officer Shelby develops。 。。。more
