Summary

THE RUNAWAY SUNDAY TIMES NO。1 BESTSELLER AND THRILLER OF THE YEAR

'Really great suspense novel。 Kept me up most of the night。 The alcoholic narrator is dead perfect' STEPHEN KING

Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning。 She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens。 She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses。 ‘Jess and Jason’, she calls them。 Their life – as she sees it – is perfect。 If only Rachel could be that happy。

And then she sees something shocking。 It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough。

Now everything’s changed。 Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar。

Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train…

Pensavo di aver capito tutto e che potesse diventare noioso, ed è stato in quel momento che sono arrivati i colpi di scena。Recensione in arrivo!

4。5 stars* I ate this book up so fast, it got my brain juices flowing trying to figure it out (which I did😁)。 The ending was a bit underwhelming and it can be annoying how the plot is built around Rachel’s straight up blackouts and misremembering of crucial events in the plot (the point of the book but still) but other than that it was great and so well thought out。 I am now looking forward to watching the movie and comparing。

One of my favorite books

I found this a bit of a slow starter but once I got passed the first hundred pages I couldn’t put it down! The characters felt so real, great read!

(this book contains violence, and graphic scenes )WOW! Okay, this book is my new favourite book。 It's a medium-paced, mystery/thriller book with romance added to it, and a page-turner for sure。The story is about the main character Rachel, who previously divorced her husband Tom, and now is an absolute mess。 She catches the train each morning and passes the backyards of houses while on the train, but one day, she sees a shocking thing happen in one of the backyards, and it sets off a chain of rea (this book contains violence, and graphic scenes )WOW! There were characters that turned out to be completely different from what I first judged off from at the start of the book, some for the good, and some for the bad。 I loved the plot twist, I didn't expect it at all and got me binging the book at night to finish reading it。 The characters were good, they were hella relatable and memorable, my favourite character though was probably Megan though, she was like Rachel but the upgraded version in my opinion, and although she did some bad stuff, I still felt bad for her。There is so much else about this book I would like to say, but I want others to read this review before reading the book without getting spoiled, so I'm just going to leave it there。 I can't recommend this enough! 。。。more

I listened to the audiobook。 The narration was excellent, moving me along this journey of revelation about who this Girl is and where and why she was going。 One could not help but want to counsel this protagonist and help her on and off this train。A good read。 I will not reveal more。 It is all about The Girl。

The last 100 pages are the most gripping by far, but the writing/characters are nice throughout and keep you guessing。 Very compelling beach read, glad to finally check it off the list!

Interesting thriller, from the point of view of the women in the story。 Intriguing enough to be recommended, it also focuses on the characters psychology。

This should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Gone Girl。Just read the Wikipedia plot summary。 Since there’s nothing of literary or psychological value in the book, you’ll get the same amount out of it without losing hours of your life。

I didn’t see it coming until the last third of the novel。 But Okay but there’s like no turnaround。 Rachel stays the same the whole tale。 I didn’t expect her to be a recovered alcoholic and it’s cool she’s not drinking much anymore but she has seriously unhealthy psychological problems that I can’t imagine aren’t hindering her from moving on。 Feels like Hawkins is just treating her MC like a disposable game board piece, a means to an end to the most erratic thriller mystery ever。 And the mystery? I didn’t see it coming until the last third of the novel。 But when I found out what was really happening, I wasn’t mind blown, it was just like, oh, okay? The characters that we got POV chapters for sounded like they were the same people, they used the same manner of speaking (each of them were “spoiling for a fight” at one point or other。 It also just feels super anti feminist, how droll each woman is? How utterly unhinged and unhealthy they all are。 There really isn’t a likable character in this book。Idk why it was hyped so much。 The Woman in the Window was way better, at least that main character had two sides to her unreliability; the unreliable side, and the side that was brilliant but overshadowed by the alcoholism so you really weren’t sure no matter how lucid she was。 Rachel in this book though was messy the entire time and I honestly close this book unsure if the way things went down, actually went down that way。 3 - I’m see we’re not wasting any time identifying our main character as an alcoholic 4 - how does she know their names? 8 - interesting to think about how the lack of personal space might be contributing to whatever Rachel is dealing with 10 - oh she made up their names lmao great 12 - wow wow wow I understand being an alcoholic but I would literally die of shame before I continued acting like this 14 - so she’s projecting a lot of little daydreams onto this couple。 That’s another thriller trope I guess 21 - Wow so Jess who is actually Megan seems kind of flaky。 Didn’t realize we were getting her POV too。 But it’s interesting insight into her character I guess? She’s held a nannying job for the course of two pages until she quits。 Interesting lol23 - I can already tell this therapist is a fuck30 - Rachel’s ex is an absolute scumfuck39 - I’m glad it doesn’t take her long at all to realize she may have something to do with the murder lol 54 - Oh shit oh shit Megan is missing 64 - Cathy is a really good friend。 I would have personally loved all of Rachel’s things out 107 - Idk sometimes Rachel is just really not believably unhinged 140 - I think Anna is just as obsessed with Rachel as Rachel is obsesssd with like… everyone 179 - Rachel is so annoying omg。 Can you please try not to be like, “Ugh I’m sooooo annoying for making Tom made that I’m stalking him! I’m gonna hang around the outside of the train station till I get the nerve to walk by his house again to explain myself” it’s like every other sentence switches off between “I know I suck” and “let me continue to suck” 186 - ARE YOU SERIOUSLY GOING TO GO SEE THE THERAPIST WHO MIGHT HAVE KILLED THE GIRL YOURE OBSESSED WITH AND AT THE VERY LEAST WAS DEF HER THERAPIST。 You are so creepy and you’re not even going to therapy for YOU which you should 198 - This is like the third time I’ve read the term “spoiling for a fight” each time from a diff character omg。 Maybe it’s just a common UK phrase? 225 - There is something really not right about the way Tom interacts with Rachel。 Telling Anna he will “handle it” and he sneaks around talking to her。 He also tells her to stop calling but his first idea EVERY TIME Anna says that Rachel does something sketchy, Tom is like hmm let me call her。 Like why?? 230 - Ah okay。 Tom is definitely planting false memories to make himself look innocent and make her look like a violent wreck when she’s blackout。 I bet he’s the one behind all the bad shit 246 - Yeah this confirms it for me。 That the DNA test shows the baby is neither Scott’s nor Kamal’s, it’s definitely Tom’s。 Which is kind of weird because I feel like maybe in this homicide investigation the next step I would think, would be to track down the father? I would immediately assume it’s him。 If you know a murdered woman is pregnant and it’s not her husband’s and it’s not the man she’s having an affair with’s baby, then it’s a third man’s baby。 Which means those three men should be under CONSTANT scrutiny I would assume? I know they’re coming down on Scott but it’s like the police acknowledge it’s possible that Megan’s OLD baby daddy might have a vendetta。 They follow that lead, a connection of hers from YEARS ago, till they realize he ODed on heroine forever ago。 But they don’t go down the road of looking for the CURRENT baby daddy? Ridiculous 298 - Ew this whole group of people is gross 323 - So the red haired man was literally irrelevant?!?!?!?!?! Like what was the point of him? This story didn’t even end with law enforcement closing the Megan case。 They just kill Tom and get away with it 。。。more

Honestly, such a good book。 I love psychological thrillers and this is one that took me for quite a spin。 I love the use of different time lines and different points of view, and the building of characters to better understand the actions their making in current times。I had my suspicions on "who did it" about half way through but I think the author does a great job of really keeping you guessing and ultimately just all over the place。 I can understand the critism for the main character being har Honestly, such a good book。 I love psychological thrillers and this is one that took me for quite a spin。 I love the use of different time lines and different points of view, and the building of characters to better understand the actions their making in current times。I had my suspicions on "who did it" about half way through but I think the author does a great job of really keeping you guessing and ultimately just all over the place。 I can understand the critism for the main character being hard to follow。 Her thoughts do race, but I also understand that that is how someone with her mental health probably thinks。 It can make the book a little difficult to read, but I’m really glad the author stuck with that POV because, not only is it different, but it’s real。 。。。more

I had heard so much about this book, I was expecting a lot more。 Another unreliable narrator story。 All of the characters are dislikeable so it makes it hard to care。 It’s hard to believe this book was written by a women given that the female characters are so weak and completely defined by the men in their lives。 I did manage to finish it but was exhausted from all the eye rolling。

the culprit was so obvious that i thought there would be an unexpected end but the 10 last pages of the book felt so rushed that i was left unmoved。this is a good book but i wouldn’t compare it to gone girl; maybe my expectations were too high and that is why i didn’t enjoy the book that much。
