Summary

Whoa。 Twisty-turny in the best way ever。

This book goes by fast, and has a great, creepy twist at the end that I didn’t fully piece together while reading, but still I think it was just okay overall。 Nothing amazing about the writing, but it was interesting and I did want to figure out what was going on。

The plot twist was just ^chef kiss ^👨‍🍳💋

literally nothing prepared me for that ending。 the whole book i was picking up on little things trying to put it all together and i don’t know how i didn’t see that coming。 wow。 i’m in shock the whole time i didn’t know who to believe or what was true and what was fake really got me thinking。 i was hooked from the first chapter edging to know what really happened but WOW i have no words

I live for plot twists like this。 Amazing。 Great Read。 The characters were interesting and nuanced。 However, I found the reasons for her Alicia's silence to be a little weak; she felt dead because her husband was a cheating loser and she was inspired by a play based on Greek mythology? I don't know if that can justify her length of silence。 I live for plot twists like this。 Amazing。 Great Read。 The characters were interesting and nuanced。 However, I found the reasons for her Alicia's silence to be a little weak; she felt dead because her husband was a cheating loser and she was inspired by a play based on Greek mythology? Overall, I have mixed feelings about this book。 The plot moves very smoothly and there is a good amount of suspense and drama in the story。 But on the other hand, there are many inaccuracies regarding psychiatric care and mental health institutions。 For instance, there is a scenario where something happens at the hospital, which results in a mystery as to who could have done the thing in question。 In real life, there would be no mystery。 The hospital staff would simply check the security cameras Overall, I have mixed feelings about this book。 The plot moves very smoothly and there is a good amount of suspense and drama in the story。 But on the other hand, there are many inaccuracies regarding psychiatric care and mental health institutions。 For instance, there is a scenario where something happens at the hospital, which results in a mystery as to who could have done the thing in question。 In real life, there would be no mystery。 The hospital staff would simply check the security cameras and figure out the identity of the person。 Additionally, the main narrator violates HIPAA numerous times which again takes away from the authenticity of the book。 But despite these flaws, the story is very engaging。 。。。more

Well, this was certainly a page turner。 In terms of it being a thriller, "The Silent Patient" did its job: I was frustrated because I knew which character not to trust from the very beginning, but I couldn't see the ending coming。 "The Silent Patient" is narrated by Theo, a psychotherapist--with a traumatizing past of his own--who is drawn to the case of Alicia Berenson, an artist whose journal entries are also sprinkled throughout the novel。 A few years earlier, Alicia was found standing over t Well, this was certainly a page turner。 In terms of it being a thriller, "The Silent Patient" did its job: I was frustrated because I knew which character not to trust from the very beginning, but I couldn't see the ending coming。 "The Silent Patient" is narrated by Theo, a psychotherapist--with a traumatizing past of his own--who is drawn to the case of Alicia Berenson, an artist whose journal entries are also sprinkled throughout the novel。 A few years earlier, Alicia was found standing over the body of her husband, murdered by several gunshots to the head。 She herself had slit her wrists。 It was presumed that she was the murderer, however from the time police arrived to the scene, she had remained completely silent, refusing to speak。 Amongst the psychiatric community, therapists are split about whether Alicia is actually in traumatic shock or if she simply is a cold-blooded killer, refusing to speak。 A lot of questions serve as the backbone of this book: will Alicia finally speak? Is she guilty? Why is Theo drawn to Alicia's case? Are all the medical professionals involved to be trusted? How do our past experiences reappear in our current actions?Like most thrillers/mystery novels, this book is far more plot-driven than character-driven, but Michaelides still does a pretty good job of fleshing out the characters involved。 When the mystery is revealed at the end of the novel, it definitely presents an interesting resolution to all of the questions。 That said, the "trick" that Michaelides relies on in order for the resolution to play out did feel, to me as a reader, like a cheap shot。 Overall, a very engrossing read。 I can think of no untied ends or inconsistencies, which--I feel--is the mark of a good mystery。 However, I am on the fence about the method of the author's development of the mystery (more on that, with spoilers, below)。 This is a worthy novel because you'll either love it or you'll be frustrated enough about to want to talk about it。 For that, 4 stars。 If you like thrillers, I would suggest this one if you haven't read it, yet。 Looking forward to reading Michaelides The Maidens。 Thanks for this one, Sean。[SPOILERS BELOW]。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。From the outset of the novel, there was something about Theo that I didn't trust。 Ultimately, him having played a part in the murder of Alicia's husband makes sense and is believable。 What I felt was a cheap shot is that Michaelides relies on a split timeframe of the narration of the entire novel。 The reader ultimately realizes that the subplot of Theo finding out about his wife's infidelity is not told on the same timeline as his psychiatric sessions with Alicia。 Of course, one could argue that the inconsistencies of time are a characterization of Theo's warped mind, but I was personally frustrated because I felt that had I known the timelines were different, I would have easily seen that Theo was involved in Alicia's trauma。 Very tricky of Michaelides。 I'll be turning back to see if there were any hints of a split timeline that I missed。 。。。more

All I can say is that it all makes sense in the end。 It all makes bloody sense and that's what I love about this book。 It was easy to read, easy to follow and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a mystery thriller book。 。。。more

I loved this!!!!!!!! Immaculate 🤌🏼They way I kept changing my opinion every 20 pages on who I thought the murderer was HAHAH at one point I was very convinced it was everyone that Alicia was associated with and they just all turned on her。 This is definitely up there in my favourite thrillers, next to I’m Thinking of Ending Things and Dark Places

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The twist was nice, although you could see it coming near enough & the unreliable narrator part has become clichéd recently。 But something didn't sit right with me: the psychiatrist playing detective, borderline unethical patient relationship, the obsession。。。 I guess all those were part of the plot that explained itself in the end。 I initially though the reason why she stayed quiet was to craft a perfect alibi, and yet。。。how it was unexplained was deeply unsatisfying。 The twist was nice, although you could see it coming near enough & the unreliable narrator part has become clichéd recently。 But something didn't sit right with me: the psychiatrist playing detective, borderline unethical patient relationship, the obsession。。。 I guess all those were part of the plot that explained itself in the end。 I initially though the reason why she stayed quiet was to craft a perfect alibi, and yet。。。how it was unexplained was deeply unsatisfying。 。。。more

This is the second book I have read in this genre。 I was disappointed with the last one, but this one… I LOVE IT。 It was so fun and chilling too see things unravel。 I got chills at some parts。 It made me think of scenarios of how it will end, or why did it happen。 I had multiple assumptions, so I was really surprised on how everything played it out。 I love it!! These are the type of thriller books I am hoping to read more in the future。 I have absolutely no words to say without spoiling it。

It turns out that Kathie cheated him with Gabriel , Alicia's husband and it was all 6 years ago when Theo , the true psychopath attacker broke into Alicia's house , captivated her , gave her a long-dormant trauma exposing the affair which made Alicia shoot his husband 。The story draws the reader beautifully around the silent patient, Alicia, and her personal life that we come to conclusion of someone else being the culprit 。 But to our surprise, in the bed we get to know that it was someone else! 。。。more
