Wow! Just wow! I finished reading this as I watched the news of US pulling troops out and hearing how the Taliban are taking over the land again。 I wonder how Malala is feeling today about the chain of recent events。 This story was eye opening。 It humbled me。 I enjoyed learning more of the cultural, understanding the politics a bit better, learning more about the Muslim religion, and being continually grateful for the safeties and freedoms I have been blessed with。

Malala obviously has an amazing story to tell。 One riddled with tragedy, resilience, compassion, disaster, discrimination, bravery, and devoutness to her beliefs and family。 I came into this memoir already very familiar with the politics, Pashtun culture, and Malala's own story and accomplishments。 But familiarity is not the same as reading a memoir, especially one with such high praise。Unfortunately, two stars are the result of what was, to me, a very bland telling of a fiery story。 The narrati Malala obviously has an amazing story to tell。 One riddled with tragedy, resilience, compassion, disaster, discrimination, bravery, and devoutness to her beliefs and family。 I came into this memoir already very familiar with the politics, Pashtun culture, and Malala's own story and accomplishments。 But familiarity is not the same as reading a memoir, especially one with such high praise。Unfortunately, two stars are the result of what was, to me, a very bland telling of a fiery story。 The narrative flowed poorly, often struggling to create a comprehensible chapter。 The book read in a very clunky manner, often I was struck feeling, quite guiltily might I add, bored。 There were excellent parts of this story, and even the most exciting tended to fall flat。I am glad that I was able to further educate myself on Malala's story in a much more intimate way, the information presented in the book was still information that is important to know。 It further paints the struggles and issues of human rights, country identity, foreign financial aid, terrorism, deep-rooted culture, illiteracy, and what bad people can do with that illiteracy。 Malala is an amazing woman, a Joan of Arc from the fertile land of Swat。 A woman who is standing for all those who cannot。 She commands my respect and is an activist that has earned a spot in history at a very young age, and continues to exemplify why that is every day。I just wish the book lived up to the reputation I associated it with。 。。。more
