Summary

A voracious guest makes a surprise visit in this ferociously popular tale, first published more than fifty years ago。

When the doorbell rings unexpectedly one afternoon, Sophie and her mummy can't imagine who might be there。 Much to their surprise, a tiger with a very large appetite has come to tea! First published in 1968, this classic and whimsical picture book from beloved children's author and illustrator Judith Kerr is a delightful (and delicious!) story about the best way to entertain an unexpected houseguest, even when that guest just so happens to be a tiger。

Nice story about a mother and daughter who share their tea with a hungry tiger。

My head must be in a weird place because as I was watching the tiger take everything and the mom and daughter being so loving and attentive, I thought it was going to be a metaphor for addiction。 But it was just a tiger。 Lesson: sometimes a tiger is just a tiger

The Tiger who came to TeaWell I was a bit confused after reading this book to my daughter and to add further to my misery was when she asked me what it meant。 I was genuinely stumped, I never had a ever hospitable temperament they let the Tiger in。The tiger then literally rids them of their Bread & Butter !!At the knock of the door the mother and daughter try to conceive who it could be at the door, they think of the pertinent people in their lives , the milkman (the framing community), the grocer (the industrialists) or the Father (rightful residents of the country) but upon "opening their doors" they found a Tiger , a voracious, uncivilized , unpredictable animal。The family in their ever charitable nature offer him sandwiches, buns and the tiger as is in his nature devours them in entirety。The tiger then makes himself at home and finishes all the food there is at home。 He then drinks all the beer and all the tea and all the water all without any provocation whatsoever from the family。After tiger quenches his hunger he bids adieu and leaves without ever thinking what the home owners would think about him finishing their entire life stock。Then enters the Father (rightful residents of the country) and he is given an entire account of the afternoon by the daughter and the mother。 The Father as expected does not lose his temper but decides to take the family on an adventure , into the dark and dismal world in search of food for their own survival to a "Cafe" where they spend money out of their own pocket to feed themselves whilst never berating or abusing the This classic story (1968) of a naughty tiger who appears at the tea table and eats all of the food, engages children and parents。 The beautiful illustrations, the element of danger and the sweet, original, compelling story make it an enjoyable read。 Although it does seem a bit dated - perhaps they could update the family to taking on less traditional roles - what I find interesting is the debate over whether there are underlying themes behind the story。 Kerr herself has explained she took on the This classic story (1968) of a naughty tiger who appears at the tea table and eats all of the food, engages children and parents。 The beautiful illustrations, the element of danger and the sweet, original, compelling story make it an enjoyable read。 Although it does seem a bit dated - perhaps they could update the family to taking on less traditional roles - what I find interesting is the debate over whether there are underlying themes behind the story。 Kerr herself has explained she took on the traditional role of mother and felt lonely when her husband was away at work, she used to visit the zoo often with her daughter。 However when challenged on whether there were influences from her own personal background, she was brought up in a Jewish family during World War Two and her family had concerns about being taken away by the Gestapo, she disputes this and explains that this was just a bedtime story she made up for her young daughter! This book becomes more relevant in current Covid times, when we are all under increased restrictions and uncertainties, this could lead into a discussion with children about their feelings and thoughts about how life has changed and living with uncertainty。 。。。more

。。 МНОГО голяма! Charming artwork and writing, but no one acted particularly upset at the tiger after it consumed all the food and drink。 I expected the mother to at least be annoyed。

I love Judith Kerr (RIP)。 This is a cute, fun book。 Not sure what the lesson would be- perhaps some guests are very greedy? Or maybe because the family was generous that kept everyone joyful and the tiger did not harm them? Either way, it’s a classic
