Summary

The Vampire Chronicles continue with a riveting, rich saga--part adventure, part fairy-tale--of Prince Lestat and the story of the Blood Communion as he tells the tale of his coming to rule the vampire world and the eternal struggle to find belonging, a place in the universe for the undead, and how, against his will, he must battle the menacing, seemingly unstoppable force determined to thwart his vision and destroy the entire vampire netherworld。

In this spellbinding novel, Lestat, rebel outlaw, addresses the tribe of vampires, directly, intimately, passionately, and tells the riveting story of the formation of the Blood Communion and how he became Prince of the vampire world, the true ruler of this vast force, and how his vision for all the Children of the Universe to thrive as one, came to be。
The tale spills from Lestat's heart, as he speaks first of his new existence as reigning monarch--and then of his fierce battle of wits and words with the mysterious Rhoshamandes, proud Child of the Millennia, reviled outcast for his senseless slaughter of the legendary ancient vampire Maharet, who brought forth the Great Family of the undead; Rhoshamandes, a force who refuses to live in harmony at the Court of Prince Lestat and threatens all that Lestat has dreamt of。
As the tale unfolds, Lestat takes us from the towers and battlements of his ancestral castle in the snow-covered mountains of France to the verdant wilds of lush Louisiana with its lingering fragrances of magnolias and night jasmine; from the far reaches of the Pacific's untouched islands to the 18th-century city of St。 Petersburg and the court of the Empress Catherine 。 。 。

Not one of her best works, and not one of the best books in The vampire chronicles。 Lestat is invincible, no matter wich enemy he faces, there is no real sense of danger along the book, and what happens here, no matter what the characters say, doesn't change anything in vampire's history。 Of course she has the ability of creating a sensual experience of everything, being it music, clothes, a perfume。。。 But that's fruit of her expertise as a writer, and I had always the sensation of reading somet Not one of her best works, and not one of the best books in The vampire chronicles。 Lestat is invincible, no matter wich enemy he faces, there is no real sense of danger along the book, and what happens here, no matter what the characters say, doesn't change anything in vampire's history。 Of course she has the ability of creating a sensual experience of everything, being it music, clothes, a perfume。。。 But that's fruit of her expertise as a writer, and I had always the sensation of reading something written by inertia。 Not very bad, not very good。 。。。more

I enjoyed how this book came full circle to where The Vampire Lestat started us off at in 1985。 A conclusion to an immortal story 34 years in the making。 I don't know if Lestat will ever speak to us again after this book, but if this is the final tome then it is a good conclusion。 I enjoyed how this book came full circle to where The Vampire Lestat started us off at in 1985。 A conclusion to an immortal story 34 years in the making。 I don't know if Lestat will ever speak to us again after this book, but if this is the final tome then it is a good conclusion。 。。。more

Kinda boring。 But is this book a setup for Lestat’s next adventures?

Too much rehashing of the past, pages and pages of it。 The characters Lestat, Pandora, Armand, Marius and Louis are no longer recognizable to me。 Anne has lost her touch and it's time to put end to The Vampire Chronicles。 Too much rehashing of the past, pages and pages of it。 The characters Lestat, Pandora, Armand, Marius and Louis are no longer recognizable to me。 Anne has lost her touch and it's time to put end to The Vampire Chronicles。 。。。more

If the point of these 3 new books was to destroy Lestat as a character and the series as a whole then mission accomplished。It was so blatantly done that I have to think it's deliberate and Anne Rice genuinely hates this series and wanted to destroy it。 If the point of these 3 new books was to destroy Lestat as a character and the series as a whole then mission accomplished。It was so blatantly done that I have to think it's deliberate and Anne Rice genuinely hates this series and wanted to destroy it。 。。。more

I honestly don't know where Anne could take the story from here but I sincerely hope this isn't the last installment。 This series has spanned through my teenage years all the way into my 40s。 It's a comfort and an escape。 I enjoyed this one as much as all the others。 Anne's writing style is rich and descriptive。 I learn so much just by looking up the clothing and architecture she describes。 If books were food, her's would be mental dark chocolate。 Rich and sweet!

I tried to find any element at all to give this four stars。 Or even to break the middling rating enough for 3。5。 But I can’t。 Sorry Anne。 😞 The story is weak: there isn’t any plot, just three or four events—written in this “literary” style of telling not showing。 (Side note: when did “showing” become pulp and “telling” literary? Seriously。)—tied together with tedious exposition of what the chateau looks like; what every single vampire looks like。 Worst of all, we get another round of each—more o I tried to find any element at all to give this four stars。 Or even to break the middling rating enough for 3。5。 But I can’t。 Sorry Anne。 😞 The story is weak: there isn’t any plot, just three or four events—written in this “literary” style of telling not showing。 (Side note: when did “showing” become pulp and “telling” literary? It is time for Lestat to go away。 I hated this book though it pains me to say so。 I think the author has gotten repetitive in what we can expect from him and the recitation of the ever growing circle of the “ inner circle” is boring and seems to be a way to add to page count without adding anything to the story。

Crymsyn Hart

The characters are always great, but the book was too short。 It feels like the author was tying up loose end and saying this is it。

Kristine

Looking back, ehh, way drawn out and it seems the rules of the vampires change as the books go on。

Good ending for the series。 My only quibble is no mention of Quinn and Mona。

"Prince" and "Brat Prince" sounds mocking and odd because he was the "Brat Prince" as a criticism to his character and not as a proper compliment。The vampires seem like a hive-mind being, I can't tell them apart from each other。 Except for Armand, and nobody really listens to him anyway。 There's lists of names mentioned in most pages and all they seem to do is stand all together in the room, surrounding Lestat and telling him the same words one after another。 And there's no plot twist to justify it later in the book。 And maybe is because it's been years since I've read the other Vampire Chronicles books but I swear I don't remember them being this unnecessarily gory at so many points of the book。 It's just gross。Oh, and Lestat is tired, sleepy or sleeping most of the book, like he's tired of us, and existence probably。。。 There's no humans on the book, (well, there's a human that talks to Lestat during 3 pages and then is make into a Vampire) which also breaks a lot with all the other stories and their magic。Also I know a lot of people didn't like Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle, but they exist and were part of the stories。 And here she mentions these lists of interminable characters since the beginning of times that I don't remember, don't know or don't care about, but absolutely NO mention of Tarquin Blackwood or Mona Mayfair, not even in the painting that Marius did, supposedly of ALL the vampires that we know of。 All the business of the vampires as service staff is kinda sad。 And having humans in the dungeons? In LESTAT dungeons? Is she now actively trying to make us hate all vampires? What was that scene of Armand and his warning to Lestat about the Replimoids? And then this Kapetria later in the book explaining Lestat what happens when they keep dividing themselves and multiplying? How could karpetria offer Lestat one of their "children" as a blood cow to the vampires? Is the next book going to be humans vs vampires vs replimoids? Not much makes sense anymore <\3 。。。more

So, this is the thing。 Anne Rice is one of my favorites writers, and she never EVER disappointing me。 This book is beautiful, totally beautiful。 I read some people here saying is boring (what is wrong with you?) and others saying is better if she stops writing。 Well I just want to tell her books have always been and going to be forever masterpieces。 If you love her books, her stories, her soul, this book is just another piece to our hearts。 So stop been haters and shut up。

7。5/10 Rating -- The thirteenth and perhaps last installment of The Vampire Chronicles is a return to form for Rice。 After the overbearing scope of The Prince Lestat and the sci-fi-ness of Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, readers may be relieved by the simplicity of the plot and themes here。 If sci-fi isn’t your thing, you can easily skip Atlantis as I did (after reading poor reviews), read a summary of it online, and jump straight into The Blood Communion。 In this short novel, The Brat 7。5/10 Rating -- The thirteenth and perhaps last installment of The Vampire Chronicles is a return to form for Rice。 After the overbearing scope of The Prince Lestat and the sci-fi-ness of Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, readers may be relieved by the simplicity of the plot and themes here。 If sci-fi isn’t your thing, you can easily skip Atlantis as I did (after reading poor reviews), read a summary of it online, and jump straight into The Blood Communion。 In this short novel, The Brat Prince reluctantly leads the Court and Council of Elders from his restored chateau in the French Alps。 While Marius warns Lestat that killing is a Vampire’s nature, the Prince fights to bring everlasting peace to the Vampire World and within himself。 He must find a way to defeat the Court’s familiar enemy - as well as a new enemy - in a fair and just way。 Writing to the Vampire World, Lestat once again traces his inner journey, this time grasping for and grappling with some unfamiliar feelings: love, kinship, and contentment。 There is nothing spectacular about this installment, but it’s a short, simple read that ties up loose ends in a satisfying manner。 Rice has no announced this as her final novel, but I think Rice has written it as a possible finale - especially since she is 80 years old。 The illustrations add atmosphere and appear in line in the Kindle version。 I appreciate that faces and main characters are never pictured but instead mostly buildings and interiors。 I would recommend this to anyone who’s enjoyed other books in the series。 If I ever wanted to re-read some of The Vampire Chronicles, I would stick to the original trilogy and this one。‘And something mad occurred to me, that every single time I ever encountered another blood drinker in friendship, it was as if I were meeting and entering an entire world。 Seems I’d read somewhere, or heard it in a film, that the Jews believe each life is a universe, and if you take a life, well, then you are destroying a universe。’ (K location 477) 。。。more

Blood Communion is a continuation of Anne Rice’s believer Vampire Chronicles; a forty year old book series comprised of probably more than a dozen volumes。 Ms。 Rice hasn’t lost her dramatic and romantic flare or grown weary of her enchanting characters。 This novel is told from the perspective of Prince Lestat。 He is introduced in the first book of the series, Interview with the Vampire (in the movie version of that book, the lovers Lestat and Louis are played by Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, respect Blood Communion is a continuation of Anne Rice’s believer Vampire Chronicles; a forty year old book series comprised of probably more than a dozen volumes。 Ms。 Rice hasn’t lost her dramatic and romantic flare or grown weary of her enchanting characters。 This novel is told from the perspective of Prince Lestat。 He is introduced in the first book of the series, Interview with the Vampire (in the movie version of that book, the lovers Lestat and Louis are played by Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, respectively。) Blood Communion is the latest in the series as of this writing - Feb 2021, and focuses on the great influence Lestat has achieved in the Vampire community and the vast chosen family he has collected over centuries。 Ms。 Rice uses the allegory of vampiric life in part to symbolize the gay community - the secret identities they maintain before coming out, the often secretive aspect of their lives necessary for their safety, their desire to thrive in the manner most natural to them, the unique gifts that are often possessed by the outcasts, and the ability to fall in love with someone for reasons beyond their appearance or gender。 These beings experience no shame or aversion to love the feel for someone of their own gender, and express their own genders as they choose with no judgment from their society。 Ms。 Rice wrote of these matters with passion and insight long before knowing that her own son would grow up to be gay。 Lovers of supernatural thrillers will delight in these pages。 The author’s audience is wide and comprised of all kinds of people because she is the best at what she does。 As always, I recommend reading every book of a series in order, skipping none。 You won’t FULLY appreciate these characters and their world without the extensive backstory Ms。 Rice has spent decades creating。 If you like romance and pondering paranormal possibilities, don’t miss this saga and especially this most recent entry。 。。。more

Lestat as the Prince and leader of the Undead, uniting every vampire willing to live in love, unity and in secrecy。 That in immortality, they have each other。 Lestat has mellowed, no longer the unreasonable, hard headed wanna be。 In this tale, all the great vampires have acknowledged his sovereign rule。========"Almost all vampires are beautiful。 They are picked for their beauty。" "The good of all。 It is extremely difficult to do what is good for all when you believe that “all” are evil, loathsom Lestat as the Prince and leader of the Undead, uniting every vampire willing to live in love, unity and in secrecy。 That in immortality, they have each other。 Lestat has mellowed, no longer the unreasonable, hard headed wanna be。 In this tale, all the great vampires have acknowledged his sovereign rule。========"Almost all vampires are beautiful。 They are picked for their beauty。" "The good of all。 It is extremely difficult to do what is good for all when you believe that “all” are evil, loathsome by their very nature, with no right to breathe the same air as human beings。 It is almost impossible to conceive of the welfare of “all” if one is so consumed with guilt and confusion that life seems little more than an agony except for those overwhelmingly ecstatic moments when one is drinking blood。 And that is what most vampires believe。" "The good of all。 It is extremely difficult to do what is good for all when you believe that “all” are evil, loathsome by their very nature, with no right to breathe the same air as human beings。 It is almost impossible to conceive of the welfare of “all” if one is so consumed with guilt and confusion that life seems little more than an agony except for those overwhelmingly ecstatic moments when one is drinking blood。 And that is what most vampires believe。" "Evil comes quite simply from what we must do to survive。 The entire history of evil in this world is related to what human beings do to one another in order to survive。 But believing that doesn’t mean living it every minute。 Conscience is a strange entity, at times a stranger to us, buffeted by voices from earliest childhood until the present moment of torment and pain。" "Seems I’d read somewhere, or heard it in a film, that the Jews believe each life is a universe, and if you take a life, well, then you are destroying a universe。 And I thought, Yes, this is true of us, this is why we must love one another, because we are each an entire world。 And with blood drinkers there were centuries of stories to tell, millennia of experiences to be related and understood。" "the Enlightenment, le Siècle des Lumières。" "“Love,” the overused word; “love,” the most popular word of the twenty-first century。" "“Don’t ever think that two is enough,” Benedict said。 “Don’t ever imagine it。 And don’t ever be crippled by believing that you cannot live without one other being, and only that being。 You must have more than that to love, because loving, loving keeps us alive, loving is our best defense against time, and time is merciless。 Time is a monster。 Time devours everything。”" "“Never such a place as this—free of all mythologies of dead gods and lexicons of evil and demons invented by aggrieved souls。 This is a place existing only for the benefit of all of us gathered here—and all the lost blood drinkers of the world who will come to be one with us。 Hail the Prince。 Hail the Court。 Hail a new revelation—not from the blind stars or the oracles of madness—but a revelation that comes to us out of our minds and our souls, wed as they are to flesh, living flesh, a revelation rising out of our pain and our thirst and our hearts!”" "“We have found in our souls a better purpose than any ever given us by gods or demons。” He struck his breast with his right fist。 “We have found inside of ourselves wisdom that surpasses that of ancient kings or queens, and we, we hold the key to our own survival。 And those who would reduce us once more to a rabble of monsters inflicting our worst cruelties on one another have no place in this new world that is ours。" "Third to be made by the Mother。 Six thousand years。" "Was there a merciful Heaven that had received them both after their long journey, a journey for which no mortal man is ever equipped, a journey that ends in death no matter how long?" "It was not the imitation of mortal life I’d once achieved with Louis and Claudia in our little bourgeois townhouse in the French Quarter of New Orleans。 It was a different kind of life, our life, defined by how we wanted to dress, to dance, to speak, to be together。 And mortal life had nothing to do with it。" "“Some of us are infinitely better at being miserable than happy,” he said gently。 “We’re good at it, and proud of it, and we get better and better at it, and we simply don’t know what it means to be happy。”" "“You know how we came together,” he said。 “You’ve heard how, from the simple desire to help one another against a common enemy, we came out of the darkness which concealed us from our fellows。 You know the story of how the common enemy proved to be Amel, that spirit who gave birth to us。 You all know how that one was freed from his innumerable invisible chains without bringing harm to a single one of us。" "“No blood drinker in our dark history of six thousand years has ever done such a thing,” he said, his eyes on me。 “And with that gesture—and the destruction of a deadly enemy—the word went out around the world that all the lofty notions of this Court were rooted not in fancy and idle dreams but in our very blood, and of our blood, and that if you could do this for us, then we can come together to make this Court endure forever for one another。”" "But then the word, the word I’d just used in my deepest thoughts, the word “natural” came to me, and I knew I could never put into words what I was feeling, what I was coming to understand, that deep secret that I couldn’t share with others, though it was all about others, all about us as we were gathered here。" "“We must love one another if we are to stay together,” I said。 “And it is loving one another, and nothing else, that will give us the strength to write our own history。” 。。。more

Ultimately I liked this book well enough, but it definitely felt rushed。 So much happens in less than 100 pages, that it ended up feeling a bit forced and pointless to even be there。

This fell flat for me。 I'm used to Anne Rice 'showing me', but this book simply 'told me' and it didn't pull me in like her previous works。 Lately this series has felt forced, like she's trying to tie up as many loose ends as possible in each book, while very obviously leaving an opening for another in the series。 The world she's created seems to fall flat, somehow, in ways it never did in the past。 At times this seemed to read like a long list of names - all the vampires we've come to know and This fell flat for me。 I'm used to Anne Rice 'showing me', but this book simply 'told me' and it didn't pull me in like her previous works。 Lately this series has felt forced, like she's trying to tie up as many loose ends as possible in each book, while very obviously leaving an opening for another in the series。 The world she's created seems to fall flat, somehow, in ways it never did in the past。 At times this seemed to read like a long list of names - all the vampires we've come to know and then some - but who cares? Enjoyable fun read because Anne Rice。 But as far as her other books go, felt this one wasn't great, the writing felt rushed somehow。。。。 superficial。。。even predictable maybe。。。 also unless I missed it I didn't really get how the whole Rhoshamandes last dying words thing got resolved。 Unless she's saving that for a future book? I did enjoy the "blood communion" portion which indeed got quite bloody。 Enjoyable fun read because Anne Rice。 But as far as her other books go, felt this one wasn't great, the writing felt rushed somehow。。。。 superficial。。。even predictable maybe。。。 also unless I missed it I didn't really get how the whole Rhoshamandes last dying words thing got resolved。 Unless she's saving that for a future book?
