Still love this book after many years。 I get a little less use out it than I do out of her Post Punk Kitchen but I love this book for the variety of recipes in it。 In general though, all her books are fantastic resources for vegans and vegetarians。

Boring and basic。 Hardly any photos。

Disappointed that the digital version of this cookbook had zero pictures。 I was underwhelmed。

I like that this cookbook incorporated comfort meals and healthier dishes。 The ingredients are simple and all the cooking, pantry stocking and general tips throughout make this a must-have for veg and vegan-curious。 I have gifted this to many and it’s always well received。

I started my vegan transition this year and this book was great at going over all the basics of vegan cooking。 From picking and prepping your tofus, explaining common new vegan ingredients, to providing a wide array of recipes to vegan-ize your old favorites as well as new ones to eat more plant forward。 My favorite features are the indicators on each page that will let you know if the recipe is soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, under 45 min cook time, and best of all, if the ingredient list is su I started my vegan transition this year and this book was great at going over all the basics of vegan cooking。 From picking and prepping your tofus, explaining common new vegan ingredients, to providing a wide array of recipes to vegan-ize your old favorites as well as new ones to eat more plant forward。 My favorite features are the indicators on each page that will let you know if the recipe is soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, under 45 min cook time, and best of all, if the ingredient list is supermarket friendly (vs tracking down niche foods at a health store)。 I honestly don't cook from this too often, but the recipes are solid and it feels like a staple in my kitchen。 。。。more

4。5 starsI love Isa's cookbooks。 They have a wide variety of dishes, and they are all delicious。 This one is no exception。 I've been tinkering with this specific set of recipes for a full month now, and they have all worked out fantastically。 I've not been disappointed by one single dish so far, and would gladly revisit the things that I made previously。It's worth mentioning, some of these recipes are a little more involved and slightly time-consuming。 Since I'm stuck in quarantine right now, I 4。5 starsI love Isa's cookbooks。 They have a wide variety of dishes, and they are all delicious。 This one is no exception。 I've been tinkering with this specific set of recipes for a full month now, and they have all worked out fantastically。 I've not been disappointed by one single dish so far, and would gladly revisit the things that I made previously。It's worth mentioning, some of these recipes are a little more involved and slightly time-consuming。 Since I'm stuck in quarantine right now, I don't mind at all。 If you're new to the kitchen though, this might take a bit of patience to navigate and to learn where to spot shortcuts。I'm one of those culinary enthusiasts that literally annotates cookbooks, so I'm fully geeking out over how lovely these dishes turned out。 I will definitely continue to incorporate this book into my regular recipe rotation。A handful of favorites below:- Samosa stuffed baked potatoes- Creole stuffed bell peppers- Cauliflower & mushroom potpie with black olive crust- Pumpkin baked ziti with caramelized onions & sage crumb topping- Almond-quinoa crunch muffins 。。。more

There are some pretty easy recipes in this book and all-in-all it is very encouraging and simple to live a vegan lifestyle。 I only wish that there were more pictures。 I enjoy seeing pictures of the foods that I could make。

A good book with accurate but basic information。 The lack of pictures was a letdown。It's a nice book for beginners on the subject, but definitely not the "ultimate vegan cookbook"。 A good book with accurate but basic information。 The lack of pictures was a letdown。It's a nice book for beginners on the subject, but definitely not the "ultimate vegan cookbook"。 。。。more

The first time I read this book, I went through and marked a bunch of recipes I wanted to try。 Pulled it out again during lockdown and rediscovered those and more recipes I want to try。 Love the authors' personal commentary in recipe headings。 Appreciate that they list substitutions or name other recipes that complement each other。 Made use of the "Menus" page at the very end of the book。 Rustic Goddess, Lazy Indian Gourmet and Vegan Julia Child are some examples of the cuisines they've grouped The first time I read this book, I went through and marked a bunch of recipes I wanted to try。 Pulled it out again during lockdown and rediscovered those and more recipes I want to try。 Love the authors' personal commentary in recipe headings。 Appreciate that they list substitutions or name other recipes that complement each other。 Made use of the "Menus" page at the very end of the book。 Rustic Goddess, Lazy Indian Gourmet and Vegan Julia Child are some examples of the cuisines they've grouped together。 Really helpful because I had no idea where to start。If you're looking for a lifestyle change, Veganomicon is one of the handbooks you'll want at your side。 The authors are with you every step of the way with helpful sections on how to purchase, store, and cook grains, beans, and vegetables。 Much more than eggplant parmesan or risotto, although I'm sure their versions are delicious。If you're like me and are just looking for some new ways to eat more vegetables, I still wholeheartedly recommend this book。 Try the Roasted Spinach and Tomatoes or Spaghetti Squash Mexicana and tell me it's not the most flavorful dish you've ever tasted。 If the meat-alternative products are still a turn-off for you, let me tell you--it's very easy to skip the chapter featuring tofu, seitan, and tempeh。 Furthermore, at the risk of negating the entire reason the authors wrote the book and committing full-on blasphemy, you can even add meat to some dishes。 I have added shrimp and chicken to Pasta della California, or chicken strips to Pasta e Fagioli to great success。 Just because it's the purported guidebook to Vegan living, doesn't mean carnivores can't also get something out of it。 What I got out of this book was a love for vegetables, fruits, and legumes that I had no idea could be so darn tasty。 Take for example, the chickpea。 I had no idea that a Vegan recipe for Chickpeas Romesco could leave me craving more helpings for days to come。 。。。more

I've cooked almost every recipe in here for large parties, small dinners, vegans and meat-a-tarians alike, all to great success。 For a book whose title one can only assume is inspired by the Necronomicon I would've thought there'd be more Lovecraftian puns or Easter eggs hidden throughout, though。 I've cooked almost every recipe in here for large parties, small dinners, vegans and meat-a-tarians alike, all to great success。 For a book whose title one can only assume is inspired by the Necronomicon I would've thought there'd be more Lovecraftian puns or Easter eggs hidden throughout, though。 。。。more

I enjoyed the physicality of this book, it tells you that there is so much to explore in vegan cooking。 The recipes themselves seemed a little on the bland side, and the dessert section is downright depressing。 I come from outside the USA, and the recipes seem to be geared towards the American palate and by that, are more pedestrian than they could be。 But other than that, a valiant effort!

Read to this one now and really enjoying it。 I love writing style and everything Describe in this book。

Surely for the hefty price tag you would expect to see some photos。 Considering it is printed on rough recycled paper, my guess is that adding photos to the book render it a waste of paper and not environmentally friendly。 You could at least have a link to an online source where you can view photos。 This defeats the purpose though I may aswell use online recipes。

What an amazing resource to have on hand。 If you're new to vegetarianism or veganism, or looking to better feed the vegans in your life, this cookbook is such a lifeline: tasty recipes that run the gamut from simple to complex, all of them things I wanna eat。 I got this out from the library for inspiration, and it's now on my list of cookbooks-I-want-permanently-in-my-kitchen。 What an amazing resource to have on hand。 If you're new to vegetarianism or veganism, or looking to better feed the vegans in your life, this cookbook is such a lifeline: tasty recipes that run the gamut from simple to complex, all of them things I wanna eat。 I got this out from the library for inspiration, and it's now on my list of cookbooks-I-want-permanently-in-my-kitchen。 。。。more

To be fair, this was my second cookbook (bought alongside another) and I didn't cook much before then。 I had also only been vegetarian for a little while and was trying to cut out dairy。 It was a little intimidating at first because I wasn't familiar with a lot of the ingredients。 But I don't think that should put anyone off from getting the book。 I've made a couple of recipes but still have a lot more to go。 What I can tell you is:- The Chickpea cutlets are bomb。 Omnivores will love them。(fyi t To be fair, this was my second cookbook (bought alongside another) and I didn't cook much before then。 I had also only been vegetarian for a little while and was trying to cut out dairy。 It was a little intimidating at first because I wasn't familiar with a lot of the ingredients。 But I don't think that should put anyone off from getting the book。 I've made a couple of recipes but still have a lot more to go。 What I can tell you is:- The Chickpea cutlets are bomb。 Omnivores will love them。(fyi the Herb Sauce is really good but a lot of effort。 I usually eat the cutlets with a garlic spread or tahini)- the Baked Farro recipe is delicious, nourishing, and super easy to make。 My dad said he didn't feel like he needed meat with it or that it was missing anything - it's got a nice variety of textures and flavors。 I make this all the time。- Brownie Waffles are super yummy- The Black Beans in Chipotle Adobo were pretty good - better as a side though- Snobby Joes: this was just OK but also my fault。 I used Dijon instead of yellow mustard which altered the taste- Chickpeas & Basmati Rice: a lot of effort for not a ton of flavor, but still good- I almost tried Spaghetti & Beanballs but messed up the beanballs so they were inedible。 Lol。Update Dec 2020:- Mac Daddy: I'm not crazy about vegan cheese。 This is something to eat as a side imo, like potato salad, but the recipe made A Lot and it wasn't delicious enough for me to finish all the leftovers。 It's very very filling- Chocolate-Chocolate Chip-Walnut Cookies: Very tasty! Soft with a nice crunch on the outsideI'm not a vegan still I still eat dairy from time to time。 Every time I cook from home it's vegan though。 Definitely a great book to buy for those interested in eating more plant-based。 It might seem intimidating to newbies but I don't know what my life would be like without chickpea cutlets and baked farro。 They're staples。 。。。more
