Summary

In Oathbringer, the third volume of the New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive, humanity faces a new Desolation with the return of the Voidbringers, a foe with numbers as great as their thirst for vengeance。

Dalinar Kholin's Alethi armies won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost: The enemy Parshendi summoned the violent Everstorm, which now sweeps the world with destruction, and in its passing awakens the once peaceful and subservient parshmen to the horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans。 While on a desperate flight to warn his family of the threat, Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with the fact that the newly kindled anger of the parshmen may be wholly justified。

Nestled in the mountains high above the storms, in the tower city of Urithiru, Shallan Davar investigates the wonders of the ancient stronghold of the Knights Radiant and unearths dark secrets lurking in its depths。 And Dalinar realizes that his holy mission to unite his homeland of Alethkar was too narrow in scope。 Unless all the nations of Roshar can put aside Dalinar's blood-soaked past and stand together--and unless Dalinar himself can confront that past--even the restoration of the Knights Radiant will not prevent the end of civilization。

This was such a amazing book。 Brandon Sanderson does such a great job with this one。 He continues to manage to make the characters so fascinating to read about。 The world building in this book continues to be amazingly well done。 I loved seeing Dalinar’s arc in this book, where I get to learn more about him。 It was so cool that we were able to learn more about Thalyan City and Uritheu, and it almost felt I was living in those places while reading this novel。 Brandon Sanderson is now one of my fa This was such a amazing book。 Brandon Sanderson does such a great job with this one。 He continues to manage to make the characters so fascinating to read about。 The world building in this book continues to be amazingly well done。 I loved seeing Dalinar’s arc in this book, where I get to learn more about him。 It was so cool that we were able to learn more about Thalyan City and Uritheu, and it almost felt I was living in those places while reading this novel。 Brandon Sanderson is now one of my favorite authors! I still think Words of Radiance and Oathbringer are two of the best books in the series! I’m curious to see how Rhythm of War will compare to them。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Wow!Every time I read Sanderson, I start slow。 It takes me a day or two to really get into it。 But once I am in, I can’t put the book down。 Oathbringer was the same。As always, I am floored by the world building done by Sanderson。 Every time I find a new connection my brain just gets overwhelmed & this time…woah boy! I already have some Scadrial-Roshar theories and will be spending some days on Reddit soon。In Oathbringer though, it was all about the characters。 Dalinar, my dear Dalinar。 Love him! Ngl, I had tears in my eyes。 The character development was excellently handled, be it Moash, Elhokar or Dalinar。As always, it all comes together towards the end。 The battle/fight sequences were really well done。 You can really feel the chaos and hopelessness of the war。At times though, I felt the book was too long。 He could have definitely cut Shallan’s chapter in half or reduced the time in Shadesmar。I am really excited to start RoW & Cosmere now!! 。。。more

Amazing just like the rest of Brandon Sanderson's books。 I am loving this series so far and I can't wait to read the next one。 I am liking the mental illness themes and how embracing pain is what helps the characters come out better in the end。 I am enjoying how each book looks at one of the character's past and the mistakes they made and the trauma's they endured and how that made them who they are。 I am excited to read the next one and then play the waiting game for book 5。 Amazing just like the rest of Brandon Sanderson's books。 I am loving this series so far and I can't wait to read the next one。 I am liking the mental illness themes and how embracing pain is what helps the characters come out better in the end。 I am enjoying how each book looks at one of the character's past and the mistakes they made and the trauma's they endured and how that made them who they are。 I am excited to read the next one and then play the waiting game for book 5。 。。。more

Ok。 First of all: I liked the two other books of the series。 And i really think there is something big awaiting, but this one was a pain in the ass。 The first half is, literaly, a big "In the last episode of The Stormlight stuff。。。" A bunch of people remembering how they get there。 I understand this kind of books need some space for exposition in order to embrace all its universe, but this one have no shame exposing。 There is a page where a character explain a problem he has remembering his pase Ok。 First of all: I liked the two other books of the series。 And i really think there is something big awaiting, but this one was a pain in the ass。 The first half is, literaly, a big "In the last episode of The Stormlight stuff。。。" A bunch of people remembering how they get there。 I understand this kind of books need some space for exposition in order to embrace all its universe, but this one have no shame exposing。 There is a page where a character explain a problem he has remembering his pased wife。。。two paragraphs after the narrator explained that problem to the reader。 And you can find things like this through the book。 Sometimes i felt like the writer wanted you to follow the thread of the story so bad that he treated you like a child。 And i didnt like that, and im not a great godreader, just a normal one。。。godreader。 Other thing, maybe the last, i dont want to complain more than usual (?)。 I felt some characters evolve too much beetween this book and the other, like very sudden changes。 Not Shallan, which changes seems pretty much justified。 The ones that make me angry are the sprens, that freaking poke-ghoasts。 For some reason, in this book, they are all comedians, and not good ones, NO, SIR, NOT VERY GOOD COMEDIANS。 I dont want to spoiled you that refreshing pleasure of reading some alien farts spiting innuendos and dad jokes, but you will find them。 A LOT。 Finishing: i dont know how many people help this guy to write this monsters, im not complaining about the extension, and im sure some good works are coming。 But Oathbringer is not good stuff。 It advances in the plot, but always surrounded with exposition and boring recaps and repeating scenes (The magic faxes sucks)。 Maybe youll enjoy it。Anyways。。。。waiting for the next。。。。i hate myself, i guess。Excuse ma englishhh and have a nice day。 。。。more

i can’t get over THE PLOT TWIST this book had。 the worldbuilding is stellar and every character is so well written— i don’t even know how to rank them。 this really is the blackthorn’s book, i audibly gasped so many times。

Okay wow。 For some reason this guy can't write a book that isn't good。 As always, the start was a bit slow, but once you reach the end of the book the speed and amazingness of this book reached a crescendo。 I've read the last 2 parts of this book within 2 days, no single bit of regret。 I just can't。 No single bit of regret for spending 36 hours reading this book。 Okay wow。 For some reason this guy can't write a book that isn't good。 As always, the start was a bit slow, but once you reach the end of the book the speed and amazingness of this book reached a crescendo。 I've read the last 2 parts of this book within 2 days, no single bit of regret。 I just can't。 No single bit of regret for spending 36 hours reading this book。 。。。more

Mixed feelings on this one。 Either more Shallan chapters than average or I'm losing my tolerance for them。 Shallan is very self-centred compared to the other characters, and is fixated on her trauma。 She basically is her trauma, which while understandable is not my favourite thing to read about over and over again。 Other people may have a different experience。 Kaladin definitely had shades of this in previous books as well but since he was fixated on helping/failing others it was slightly more t Mixed feelings on this one。 Either more Shallan chapters than average or I'm losing my tolerance for them。 Shallan is very self-centred compared to the other characters, and is fixated on her trauma。 She basically is her trauma, which while understandable is not my favourite thing to read about over and over again。 Other people may have a different experience。 Kaladin definitely had shades of this in previous books as well but since he was fixated on helping/failing others it was slightly more tolerable。High notes, some compelling background on Dalamar。 The setting is further and some of the side characters are more developed。 Like all of the Stormlight Archive epic in scale and length。P。S。 - Wish people would stop calling Kaladin "bridge boy" given that the bridges were basically a walking human rights violation seems like a real dick move。 。。。more

Another great installment for the Stormlight archive。 The book was rich in character development, action, comedy, and camaraderie。 So much more lore was explained, a lot of good twists。 I'm interested to see how Moash turns out。 Also, Lift was written so much better in this than in her short story。 The last epic battle was incredible, and honestly felt like the end of the series。 I guess it's technically the end of a trilogy, but I'll head straight onto RoW! While there are epic parts to this book it does drag a bit too, and I found it a bit of a slog to get through。 I feel like the series has gotten more bogged down by the details as it progresses and I'm not sure if this is a good sign for things to come。The worldbuilding is excellent however the character development is。。。I don't know。 I have an issue with Shallan and Adolin's relationship, I just don't buy it。 Adolin is such an awesome character but he is almost defined by his relationship to Sh While there are epic parts to this book it does drag a bit too, and I found it a bit of a slog to get through。 I feel like the series has gotten more bogged down by the details as it progresses and I'm not sure if this is a good sign for things to come。The worldbuilding is excellent however the character development is。。。I don't know。 I have an issue with Shallan and Adolin's relationship, I just don't buy it。 Adolin is such an awesome character but he is almost defined by his relationship to Shallan at this point and I feel like he needs his own purpose。 Dalinar has some epic moments in this story but it's getting hard to remember the amazing detail when there is so much fluff in here too D: I love this series but I have to be honest I think Sanderson needs a more tightly focused story to make it more accessible and memorable。 Compared to other fantasy books this is easily a quality read, any Sanderson book is。 However, I don't think it's his best work and I hope the series gets better from here because I am so invested in this world。 But the characters!!! Kaladin is anchoring it all for me at this point。 。。。more

4。5So I finally finished this。 I started it last year when I wan on a big Cosmere kick but soon realised I can't rally give enough attention to it when I am not on vacation and I don't like listening to the audiobooks for the Cosmere so I put it on hold。 Lo and behold a year later I was on vacation again and its time finally came and it did not disappoint。 From last year I just remmember reading Dalinar's quote "The end of the world has come and still nobody will listen" last year aka 2020 and b 4。5So I finally finished this。 I started it last year when I wan on a big Cosmere kick but soon realised I can't rally give enough attention to it when I am not on vacation and I don't like listening to the audiobooks for the Cosmere so I put it on hold。 Lo and behold a year later I was on vacation again and its time finally came and it did not disappoint。 From last year I just remmember reading Dalinar's quote "The end of the world has come and still nobody will listen" last year aka 2020 and being like my god dude same and here we are in 2021 and I still feel the same。 Overall I loved it, but I have to say not as much as I did Words of Radiance。 There was something about book 2 that just idk made it absolute 5/5。 This ofcourse was as incredible as any Sanderson book and Cosmere book ever is, I just don't think I enjoyed it as much as the previous one。 Here are some random notes I made during reading。 SPOILERS for previous books duh:• I remmember a lot but I don't remmember details :(• I suppose that you feel like a moon? Oh god Kaladin stop why is this so funny??• Am I feeling some vibes from Jasnah and Kaladin? How old are they? I think Jasnah is too old。 this is probably all in my head。• Sanderson's genius never stops to amaze me, I just want to read all the Cosmere books all at once。• I am definitely still a kaladin x adolin x shallan shipper, I in no way can make a decision in this absolutely brilliant love triangle they should all be together。• These like rock messages or whatever that is in the beginning of chapters are hilarious, they read like random ass tweets。• (view spoiler)[ Wit and Shallan (hide spoiler)] are making me feel things。• Is Azure (view spoiler)[ Vivenna?? Yeahh she is,I am so interested into how these are connected and I didn't even enjoy Warbreaker as much。 (hide spoiler)]• Well damn (view spoiler)[ when you fimd out you are the bad guy (hide spoiler)]• (view spoiler)[ The most important step a men can take, the next one (hide spoiler)]• We sorta just left bridge four somewhere and never checked up on them again and I kinda miss them。•If at the end the triangle is solved by having Shallan have physical copies of herself and her personalities I will be disappointed BC this would work best as a poly relationship on my opinion they are all simps for each other I mean come on。So in the end I think what made me not love this as much on the one side was the fact that we did sort of focus on Dalinar and this might be a controversial opinion but he has never been my favourite。 So this sorta made me not love Oathbringer as much as the previous one。 Also I am kind of disappoined in the resolution (view spoiler)[ to the love triangle。 I firmly believe that if ny relationship in any book ever needs to be a polyrelationship its this one。 Adolin and Kalladin are just as smitten with eachother as either of them are with Shallan or her with them。 Not that Shallan and Adolin aren't good together I just think they all need to be together。 I mean come on Brandon Sanderson may be a mormon or whatever but he also finished Wheel of Time, its not like Rand doesn't sorta end up with three women at the same time, he is no stranger to this。 (hide spoiler)] I mean this is clearly not a huge problem, its a tiny miniscule part of the plot and the Cosmere but these are my thought on it。 I love this and I most just want to see how all the Cosmere books tie together。 In this series we see this the most。I am very interested in where we go from here I think I have heard that the next book focuses on Renarin and I am very interested in him as a character but I do think I will leave Rythm of War for my vacation next year。 Not only can I clearly not focus on such epic reads during work week, mostly because I love reading these books in mostly one go not like 20 pages a week but also so that the wair for book 5 isn't as big。 I have also read teh entirety of Wheel of Time this year and then read this after that。 I can definitely feel some high fantasy burnout and I need to give myself a break。 。。。more
