This episode sees Chise battle a persistent foe and gain a familiar。 Plus there's a weird sexual tension that seems to be building between her master and herself。 And there are hints to her masters' true self and what he keeps contained in a stiff formal visage。 She is swept off to the frozen north in Iceland on the back of her dragon friend to make herself a wand。。。。 and hear more stories of the world she is now a part of。Great series! Good continuation。 I quite like that the Grim is now named Ruth and will be around more! The last chapter with Chise going back to the dragon nest and seeing Nevin's tree was sweet。 I also hope that Elias starts sharing more with Chise soon though Good continuation。 I quite like that the Grim is now named Ruth and will be around more! Chise as a character is still very bland and boring; otherwise, the story was ok, I guess。 However, the whole Wandering Jew antagonist seems a bit off; even worse is the deadnaming - he clearly despises his pre-baptism name - in my opinion, heroes shouldn't do such things even to their enemies。 Chise as a character is still very bland and boring; otherwise, the story was ok, I guess。 However, the whole Wandering Jew antagonist seems a bit off; even worse is the deadnaming - he clearly despises his pre-baptism name - in my opinion, heroes shouldn't do such things even to their enemies。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Realizing that this is a 15-year-old girl entangled in a potential romantic relationship with a 1000-year-old, I'm not quite sure why this is so popular。 That is way too creepy。 Also, there is a 'Wandering Jew' character inspired by a real-world myth that feels pretty racist and gross in the context of this story。 I'm disappointed, as this series seemed to have potential in the first two volumes, but these aspects have turned me completely off。 Realizing that this is a 15-year-old girl entangled in a potential romantic relationship with a 1000-year-old, I'm not quite sure why this is so popular。 That is way too creepy。 Also, there is a 'Wandering Jew' character inspired by a real-world myth that feels pretty racist and gross in the context of this story。 I'm disappointed, as this series seemed to have potential in the first two volumes, but these aspects have turned me completely off。 。。。more

As I had suspected, the wow factor of introducing new magical beings every ten pages is starting to fade。 As other reviewers have pointed out, the plot feels aimless or, at best, terribly paced。 Chise, the protagonist, is also not very likeable。 She gives hard straight-out-of-a-fanfiction overpowered Mary Sue vibes, and her entire personality is looking for her owner's approval。I was glad to see other characters point out to Chise that she has no self-worth and has become very dependent, but I t As I had suspected, the wow factor of introducing new magical beings every ten pages is starting to fade。 As other reviewers have pointed out, the plot feels aimless or, at best, terribly paced。 Chise, the protagonist, is also not very likeable。 She gives hard straight-out-of-a-fanfiction overpowered Mary Sue vibes, and her entire personality is looking for her owner's approval。I was glad to see other characters point out to Chise that she has no self-worth and has become very dependent, but I think the author just brought these arguments up to shut them down to and prove Chise is truly in love with her master and justified in existing solely to please him。 I hope I'm wrong but it really feels that way。The villain was underwhelming, too。 Most of us have already seen this trope, this super evil baddie that looks like a child and acts very blasé towards everything。 Maybe some more backstory will help improve how generic this villain feels now。I'll keep on reading the next volume and see if my interest on the series continues。 。。。more

So there was a lot more backstory on this volume about Elias and that's all thanks to Chise trying to figure out who is behind some brutal murders in a nearby church。 Her surprising quick use of magic is also surprising to read about as the author hasn't mentioned much about sleigh buggys which early on was mentioned but it looks like we're going to learn more about it as Chise does。I liked the interaction between Chise and Elias as it develops because it shows both of them at the early stages o So there was a lot more backstory on this volume about Elias and that's all thanks to Chise trying to figure out who is behind some brutal murders in a nearby church。 Her surprising quick use of magic is also surprising to read about as the author hasn't mentioned much about sleigh buggys which early on was mentioned but it looks like we're going to learn more about it as Chise does。I liked the interaction between Chise and Elias as it develops because it shows both of them at the early stages of a young thing - not yet friends, but not a relationship - more like two kids learning new things。 。。。more

*Read as part of the 25 Days of Manga challenge for December 2020。*How does this series continue to be so good? I genuinely was not expecting to enjoy these volumes as much as I have been, because this series is so hyped up, I was anticipating being let down hard。 I'd say however, that the hype is fairly well-earned。 Or, perhaps this story is just ticking off all of the boxes for the things I love best in fantasy that takes deep roots in aspects of Celtic folklore。 *Read as part of the 25 Days of Manga challenge for December 2020。*How does this series continue to be so good?
