Summary

Conspiracy。 Betrayal。 Rebellion。
Peace is just another kind of battlefield。。。

Savine dan Glokta, once Adua’s most powerful investor, finds her judgement, fortune and reputation in tatters。 But she still has all her ambitions, and no scruple will be permitted to stand in her way。

For heroes like Leo dan Brock and Stour Nightfall, only happy with swords drawn, peace is an ordeal to end as soon as possible。 But grievances must be nursed, power seized and allies gathered first, while Rikke must master the power of the Long Eye 。 。 。 before it kills her。

The Breakers still lurk in the shadows, plotting to free the common man from his shackles, while noblemen bicker for their own advantage。 Orso struggles to find a safe path through the maze of knives that is politics, only for his enemies, and his debts, to multiply。

The old ways are swept aside, and the old leaders with them, but those who would seize the reins of power will find no alliance, no friendship, and no peace, lasts forever。

Loved this one, probably my favorite Abercrombie book yet (although I loved the rest of them too!)。 It had been a while since I read the first book in this trilogy so it took me a bit to get up to speed again on the names and locations, but once I did I couldn't put the book down。 Savine, Leo, and Orso were all super well-rounded characters and I can't wait to see where they go in the next book。 The only POV I don't love is probably Vick。 It's a rare book that makes me laugh out loud multiple ti Loved this one, probably my favorite Abercrombie book yet (although I loved the rest of them too!)。 It had been a while since I read the first book in this trilogy so it took me a bit to get up to speed again on the names and locations, but once I did I couldn't put the book down。 Savine, Leo, and Orso were all super well-rounded characters and I can't wait to see where they go in the next book。 The only POV I don't love is probably Vick。 It's a rare book that makes me laugh out loud multiple times! 。。。more

Relentlessly good。 Bloody and brilliant。 Turns and twists。 As always, exceptional

Jan

Still my favorite author。 He has not disappointed。

Fantastic read as usual from Mr Abercrombie, more twists and turns that the Amazon river, brilliant。

These are just so good。 I really enjoy the complexity of the characters and the lack of black & white on each side of the various conflicts。 And personally I find some of the characters just plain fun。

loved it, still a fan of this series and really liking the move to cannons, etc。 and I hope he keeps it going。 "We're all like children, Rikke。 The older you get, the more you realise the grown-ups won't suddenly walk in and set things right。 You want things right, you have to put 'em right yourself。" (54) Caul Shivers wasn't Stour Nightfall。 If he'd ever had a mind to show off, he'd left it far in the past with his other eye。 (203) He saw Savine standing on the hillside。 He smiled, and raised h loved it, still a fan of this series and really liking the move to cannons, etc。 and I hope he keeps it going。 "We're all like children, Rikke。 The older you get, the more you realise the grown-ups won't suddenly walk in and set things right。 You want things right, you have to put 'em right yourself。" (54) Caul Shivers wasn't Stour Nightfall。 If he'd ever had a mind to show off, he'd left it far in the past with his other eye。 (203) He saw Savine standing on the hillside。 He smiled, and raised his arm, and gave her a last wave。 (415) 。。。more

How does he do it!Perfect, once again。 Perfect story, perfect (well, far from perfect but you know what I mean) characters, perfect pacing, all twists, such (black and witty) humour! And I will never tire of saying that Steven Pacey is the best narrator there is。Nothing less of 5 stars。

The Age of Madness is proving a worthy successor trilogy to the original, First Law trilogy, this book perhaps even more so than the first of the series。 Can’t wait for the final volume and I envy those who will be able to read all six back to back。 Joe Abercrombie is a fantastic world-builder and his brutal depictions of battle are second to none!

I am so in love with this series and it has been my absolute favourite this year。 The fight scenes are so good and are from angles you never really see。 I feel like I am there and I get so completely lost in these books。 I thankfully only have to wait another couple of months for the next book, but I want it NOW!!!

Abercrombie, you beautiful, beautiful man, you did it again。 What a genius。

Like the first book in the series, this is a great read。 Another rollicking tale of war, political manoeuvres, conspiracy and betrayal。 At times, with the main young characters, it reads a bit like a soap, albeit a vicious and bloody one, but it was one I could not put down and was totally absorbed in。 I'm going to pick up book 3 as soon as it's published - in a month or so thankfully - I'm really glad I put off reading these first two until now。 Like the first book in the series, this is a great read。 Another rollicking tale of war, political manoeuvres, conspiracy and betrayal。 At times, with the main young characters, it reads a bit like a soap, albeit a vicious and bloody one, but it was one I could not put down and was totally absorbed in。 I'm going to pick up book 3 as soon as it's published - in a month or so thankfully - I'm really glad I put off reading these first two until now。 。。。more

Abercrombie is often (and for good reason) praised for his characters and his humor。 I think his action scenes are under appreciated。 Bernard Cornwell is often (again, for good reason) championed for his battle scenes, but no one captures the chaos and the individual personalities of a melee better than Abercrombie。The midpoint chapter, “The Little People” is exactly what sets Abercrombie apart。 A major event (no spoilers) told from the dizzying perspectives of nine unique points of view—charact Abercrombie is often (and for good reason) praised for his characters and his humor。 I think his action scenes are under appreciated。 Bernard Cornwell is often (again, for good reason) championed for his battle scenes, but no one captures the chaos and the individual personalities of a melee better than Abercrombie。The midpoint chapter, “The Little People” is exactly what sets Abercrombie apart。 A major event (no spoilers) told from the dizzying perspectives of nine unique points of view—characters big and little。"Heroes are defined not by what they do, after all, or why, but by what people think they have done。"^The First Law books in a nutshell。Cannot wait for Wisdom of Crowds。 。。。more

Oh my goodness, this one does not suffer from "middle book syndrome"。 Absolute brilliance, and heartbreaking in many ways。 I can't explain why and what I love without spoilers, so suffice to say I loved it。It almost makes me wish I hadn't got it, because I have to wait several months for publication of the final instalment。。。 Oh my goodness, this one does not suffer from "middle book syndrome"。 Absolute brilliance, and heartbreaking in many ways。 I can't explain why and what I love without spoilers, so suffice to say I loved it。It almost makes me wish I hadn't got it, because I have to wait several months for publication of the final instalment。。。 。。。more

The trouble with The Trouble with Peace-Eh。I can remember reading through the First Law series way back in 2013 and not being able to put it down until I had finished the series。 With the Age of Madness Trilogy I just haven't found that same level of passion。 The Trouble with Peace has been out for almost a year, I've had it checked out for close to 7 months, and it still took me close to a month to finish it, even with a switch to audiobook half way through。 One of the main differences I can th The trouble with The Trouble with Peace-Eh。I can remember reading through the First Law series way back in 2013 and not being able to put it down until I had finished the series。 With the Age of Madness Trilogy I just haven't found that same level of passion。 The Trouble with Peace has been out for almost a year, I've had it checked out for close to 7 months, and it still took me close to a month to finish it, even with a switch to audiobook half way through。 One of the main differences I can think of between the two trilogies is that I was able to read First Law back to back to back, whereas with the Age of Madness I'm having to wait(which is a completely normal thing) and my attachment to the characters just isn't as strong as it was to the previous generation of "heroes"。 The Wisdom of Crowds comes out next month and hopefully I'll be able to jump into it fairly quick after release。 I'm hoping it'll end on a high note with some redemption for this one, which to me definitely suffered from sequel syndrome- I feel like a second book in a second trilogy has to suffer double。 。。。more

More like 4。5 stars, dragged a bit in the middle but brought it back in the final act。Suffers a little from middle book syndrome but sets up an amazing conclusion。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Claramente esta ha sido una novela de transición。 Orso parece haber tomado las riendas de su vida, Savine ha caído en la mayor de las desgracias y Leo ha pagado con creces sus ínfulas de héroe, igualito que que el Lobo negro al que Rike, la más lista del lugar, le ha arrancado los dientes。La novela no está mal pero en mi opinión es bastante más floja que la primera y una vez más Abercrombie se recrea en exceso con la descripción de las batallas, que sí, que le quedan muy bien pero ya dio todo lo Claramente esta ha sido una novela de transición。 Orso parece haber tomado las riendas de su vida, Savine ha caído en la mayor de las desgracias y Leo ha pagado con creces sus ínfulas de héroe, igualito que que el Lobo negro al que Rike, la más lista del lugar, le ha arrancado los dientes。La novela no está mal pero en mi opinión es bastante más floja que la primera y una vez más Abercrombie se recrea en exceso con la descripción de las batallas, que sí, que le quedan muy bien pero ya dio todo lo que podía y más en Tierras rojas y por mucho que se esfuerce no va a mejorarlo。Aunque no me ha gustado tanto como el primero si tengo claro que correré a leer el tercero en cuanto salga。 Veremos si al final consigue rematar bien la historia。 。。。more

this is a grey world, has been since the first book, there is magic in this world but very little and even that seems to be leaking from this world。 the author does a great job of continuing to build the grey cruel universe with this book。 there are strong characters, well developed and you understand why they do what they do。 thoroughly enjoyable。

Another great instalment, i’m definitely looking forward to seeing how it all ends。
