'Your perfect summer read' Daily Mail

'Laugh-out-loud funny' Sunday Mirror

When Lucie Tang Churchill meets George Zao at a lavish wedding in Capri, she can't stand him。 She can't stand that he gallantly offers to trade hotel rooms with her so she can have a sea view, that he knows more about the island than she does, and worst of all, that he kisses her in the darkness of the ancient ruins。 What would her Mayflower-descended, Wall Street-wealthy family think of him? But years later, when Lucie is weekending with her fiancé in East Hampton, George unexpectedly appears and Lucie must decide - does she follow her head or her heart?

A gloriously decadent homage to A Room with a ViewSex and Vanity is a glittering modern love story and a brilliantly funny comedy of manners set between two cultures。

I've read several of Kwan's earlier books in a similar vein (e。g。, Crazy Rich Asians) and enjoyed them more。 This one is supposedly a re-write of "A Room With A View。" I don't care。 I couldn't find any redeeming traits with virtually all of the characters。 They were all snobs to one degree or another and evoked little sympathy。Lucy Tang Churchill falls in love with George Zao on the Isle of Capri, but their union is not destined to be an easy one since Lucy has her eyes on bigger fish。 Several y I've read several of Kwan's earlier books in a similar vein (e。g。, Crazy Rich Asians) and enjoyed them more。 This one is supposedly a re-write of "A Room With A View。" I don't care。 I couldn't find any redeeming traits with virtually all of the characters。 They were all snobs to one degree or another and evoked little sympathy。Lucy Tang Churchill falls in love with George Zao on the Isle of Capri, but their union is not destined to be an easy one since Lucy has her eyes on bigger fish。 Several years later, she is betrothed to perhaps one of the biggest pricks in Kwan's oeuvre, Cecil Pike。 One wonders how blind Lucy is to this clown or is it the Uber-millions he has that pulls the wool over her eyes?George happens on the scene and, predictably, Lucy finds her way back into his arms as she tells Cecil to hit the road。Much of the book is a god-awful set up filled with detailed descriptions of clothes and other possessions, designer name-drops and air-kissing at society luncheons。 Once the relationships are defined, it is a fairly rote rom-com。Kwan has done better work。 Sadly, this book is already set for the big screen。 Absent a rewrite, I'll avoid it! 。。。more

This lacked some of the charm of the Crazy Rich Asians series。 It’s all of the glitz, glam, designers, and name dropping without the same character development in his previous series。I’m not sure Lucie was very likeable or memorable for that matter。 I’m not sure anyone was。 Possibly Auden。 It was a fun summer read, but I don’t think I’ll pick it up again。

I LOVE Kevin’s writing style。 He is able to perfectly describe people and places with minimal words。 I find other authors tend to make descriptions of settings too dense for my liking, but I can picture everything Kevin is describing without ever feeling bogged down。 However, I just didn’t love this book。 I honestly wish it had been longer because the ending seemed rushed as we caught up with all the characters via emails。 I wanted more time with Lucie and George!

Much the same plot and messages as his previous books。 We do like to read about the excesses of the super rich。

I see this book's low rating and all of the negative reviews and I think I was blissfully blessed to have read this over vacation because this was the exact flippant, romancey book I was looking for。Is this profound? No。 Is it objectively good? Probably not。 But did I absolutely eat it up like I eat up the pumpkin roll during Thanksgiving dessert。 You know I did。 I loved the countless references and name dropping that took place。 Made me have numerous little chuckles。 Lucie, and many of the oth I see this book's low rating and all of the negative reviews and I think I was blissfully blessed to have read this over vacation because this was the exact flippant, romancey book I was looking for。Is this profound? The footnotes were hilarious。 I wanted to love this book, but I couldn't quite connect with Charlotte or Lucie。 The story felt rushed。 The footnotes were hilarious。 I wanted to love this book, but I couldn't quite connect with Charlotte or Lucie。 The story felt rushed。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 3。5 stars。 This was fun as Kevin Kwan always is, but the pacing of the story did feel a bit off。 Also, Cecil was so annoying that I found it difficult to believe Lucie would’ve fallen in love with him

I wanted to like it more than I did, it was a little light on plot, even for this type of book。 But I will always read Kevin Kwan - I love his books - and there were some fun Easter Eggs for “Crazy Rich Asians” fans。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I enjoyed reading Kwan’s previous works and thought I’d give this a go。 Overall, I thought it was a fun read。 I felt like the characters were quite lacking and didn’t connect with the protagonist, Lucie。 It was interesting to see her struggle with her half-Asian heritage and I wish that was explored a little bit more。 My favorite character was Rose Mary Zao, by far!

This was a lot of fun to read -- and it was a quick read but I struggled with the descriptions of the characters。 It felt like a majority of them weren't super formed and, therefore, made it hard to connect with them。 At times, the way language was used was also a bit。。。 much -- and I understand the satirical commentary on the rich but it still felt a bit much。 I haven't read any other books by Kevin Kwan but this one just felt fine to me。 This was a lot of fun to read -- and it was a quick read but I struggled with the descriptions of the characters。 It felt like a majority of them weren't super formed and, therefore, made it hard to connect with them。 At times, the way language was used was also a bit。。。 much -- and I understand the satirical commentary on the rich but it still felt a bit much。 I haven't read any other books by Kevin Kwan but this one just felt fine to me。 。。。more

I was so excited for this one after reading the Crazy Rich Asians series and loving it so so much。 Unfortunately, this one just didn’t stack up! The beginning part of the novel in my opinion was the best, I had a lot of fun reading about the crazy over the top weddings once again, and the heat between the characters! After that though, it seemed like there was such a push to make the rich people trope different from Kwan’s first books, that it wasn’t as exciting as I was hoping for。 The characte I was so excited for this one after reading the Crazy Rich Asians series and loving it so so much。 Unfortunately, this one just didn’t stack up! I had high expectations after the Crazy Rich Asian series but found this book quite difficult to get into and slow。 Plot line was very predictable。

Lisa

Sorry, I cannot even give this book one star。 The best part was that I finished。 And the only reason I finished it was because this was my book group pick。 I have a rule that life is too short to suffer through a book you are not in to。 I hated the characters。 The story took too long to start。 The title is misleading, there is barely any sex and any sex scenes were painful to read。 The only positive parts for me are the locations -- Capri and New York。

Eryn Fisher

I tried so hard to push through this but I called it about 50 pages from the end。 The writing is enjoyable, but none of the characters are likeable and it’s missing magic that made Crazy Rich Asians so good。

Kari

Beautiful concept and beautiful writing yet the character of Cecil was slightly over exaggerated to the point that it was unrealistic。 The romance between Lucie and George also felt very sudden。 He loved her so much after kissing her twice 5 years ago??? Also what was with the naming of the schools people went to。 Otherwise, I did love the setting and surprisingly despite all these criticisms, quite enjoyed this book。

Alo_rosales

disappointing。 i felt no chemistry。

Tara Gruwell

Do not go in expecting Crazy Rich Asians。

Deepnath Majumder

Found the story to be a bit weak!

Angela

Listened to the audiobook。 Not too much sex but lots of vanity! Rich Asian families and how a meeting between big and girl at a Capri wedding sticks with them both。 I enjoyed the book。 The reason why not a higher rating is because the ending felt like it skipped over how it happened and instead just slipped forward。 I liked the characters and the chemistry, even if quite predictable。

I loved it and I love reading Kevin Kwan。 Pure fun! I don't always know all the references but it doesn't matter, he's with you every step。 It's always good to read a FUN book once in awhile。 Only thing I will say is I don't think the title matched。 Maybe a "bigger picture" kinda thing。 Else wise a brilliant read! Just what I needed! It is what it is (eg not fine literature) and does it’s job well。

More of a 3。5。 I fortunately (or unfortunately to some) read this book before Kwan's crazy rich asians series so I wasn't comparing the two like so many others were。 Yet, I still had fun reading it but I wish there was more content between Lucie and George and a more in-depth look with the battle Lucie had with her cultures。 More of a 3。5。 I fortunately (or unfortunately to some) read this book before Kwan's crazy rich asians series so I wasn't comparing the two like so many others were。 Yet, I still had fun reading it but I wish there was more content between Lucie and George and a more in-depth look with the battle Lucie had with her cultures。 。。。more

delightful! Please make this a movie。。。

Connie

Fun summer read! Not quite as funny as Crazy Rich Asian though。

Karen Ballard

Light, fluffy summer read。 Fun to glimpse the Uber rich。

Natasha

I really enjoyed this book。 An eventful enemies to lovers and all about finding and discovering yourself。 I struggled a little to get into each section but once I had I was fully involved in the story and characters lives。

Michelle

It was ok, not as funny or cute as the Crazy Rich Asians。
