Summary

Anne Wynter might not be who she says she is…

But she's managing quite well as a governess to three highborn young ladies。 Her job can be a challenge — in a single week she finds herself hiding in a closet full of tubas, playing an evil queen in a play that might be a tragedy (or might be a comedy—no one is sure), and tending to the wounds of the oh-so-dashing Earl of Winstead。 After years of dodging unwanted advances, he's the first man who has truly tempted her, and it's getting harder and harder to remind herself that a governess has no business flirting with a nobleman。

Daniel Smythe-Smith might be in mortal danger…

But that's not going to stop the young earl from falling in love。 And when he spies a mysterious woman at his family's annual musicale, he vows to pursue her, even if that means spending his days with a ten-year-old who thinks she's a unicorn。 But Daniel has an enemy, one who has vowed to see him dead。 And when Anne is thrown into peril, he will stop at nothing to ensure their happy ending…

I love reading happy ending books and this one didn’t disappoint, although it was very very dramatic。 It was such a good read and a change of pace from a few of the others。 All though the novels could seen very repetitive I haven’t found them to be。 This one was different again from the many others I have read。There is a big bad villain, a hero, a beautiful princess and a happy ending。 It’s a pretty great mix and a very easy read

3。5 starsI adored the first book in this series and when I started this one, I was so excited because it starts off right where the last one ends! While I enjoyed this book, it wasn't my favorite from Julia Quinn。 There was something too *insta love-y* for me。 It also just wasn't super memorable。 I will still definitely continue this series and I am excited to see more of the Smythe-Smiths find love。 3。5 starsI adored the first book in this series and when I started this one, I was so excited because it starts off right where the last one ends! No me ha gustado tanto como el primero, siento que cayó un poco en lo absurdo

Love these stories。 Much adventure and surprising bits of laugh out loud dialogue。

Daniel Smythe-Smith only returned from exile in Italy because his enemy promised that he would be safe in London。 But someone seems to be after him - and he won't let them endanger Anne Wynter, a governess with whom he feels an instant connection。 Anne, however, isn't what she appears to be。 And she has an enemy of her own, one that has chased her for years。Daniel was so incredibly unlikeable that, early on, I was fantasising about the poor rating I would give this book。 But I did like Anne and Daniel Smythe-Smith only returned from exile in Italy because his enemy promised that he would be safe in London。 But someone seems to be after him - and he won't let them endanger Anne Wynter, a governess with whom he feels an instant connection。 Anne, however, isn't what she appears to be。 And she has an enemy of her own, one that has chased her for years。Daniel was so incredibly unlikeable that, early on, I was fantasising about the poor rating I would give this book。 But I did like Anne and her charges - there were quite a few entertaining bits。 The climax was very exciting too and nabbed the last amused smile out of me。 Back to Daniel, though。 I don't think he was mature enough for Anne and he irritated me in too many scenes to count。 Unfortunately, his character ruined any enjoyment I had while reading this book。 。。。more

I really liked Daniel and Anne’s story, especially since we got to know more of the Smythe-Smith family。

Love Julia Quinn books and would recommend the Smythe-Smith series if you loved the Bridgestone。

Quite a bit of the story felt like An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgerton #3), and that should've bothered me more lol but its Julia Quinn so of course I didn't care。 Quite a bit of the story felt like An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgerton #3), and that should've bothered me more lol but its Julia Quinn so of course I didn't care。 。。。more

While I didn't particularly enjoy the romance between Anne and Daniel - in part because Daniel felt very uninteresting and pushy while Anne was a badass - I did appreciate the exploration of the physical, emotional, and social impact of sexual assault and the brief attention to the vastly different lives and expectations of those born with a title and those that are not。 While I didn't particularly enjoy the romance between Anne and Daniel - in part because Daniel felt very uninteresting and pushy while Anne was a badass - I did appreciate the exploration of the physical, emotional, and social impact of sexual assault and the brief attention to the vastly different lives and expectations of those born with a title and those that are not。 。。。more

The story of Daniel Smythe-Smith and Anne Wynter was cute。 Just like every other Julia Quinn book, I devoured it quickly。 I would have liked to see Daniel express more interest in Anne as a person and less about her looks - but I suppose he really did fall in love with her after they spent more time together。 I appreciated all of the dialogue of the younger nieces and how everything comes back to the obsession on Unicorns。 You'll have to read it to know what that means。The Smythe-Smith series ha The story of Daniel Smythe-Smith and Anne Wynter was cute。 Just like every other Julia Quinn book, I devoured it quickly。 I would have liked to see Daniel express more interest in Anne as a person and less about her looks - but I suppose he really did fall in love with her after they spent more time together。 I appreciated all of the dialogue of the younger nieces and how everything comes back to the obsession on Unicorns。 You'll have to read it to know what that means。The Smythe-Smith series has been good so far, but the Rokebys series is still my favorite of Julia Quinn's so far。 。。。more

This was a more challenging read for me than most other Julia Quinn novels。 The subject matter includes traumas, and while I truly appreciated and enjoyed the story when finished [resolutions make a lot of things better] it also meant that there was a lot of sadness for me as the reader。 That aspect of a story adds a level of complexity that can elevate a book and it's characters, however。 And in the end I found the story to be very well done and easy to recommend。 This was a more challenging read for me than most other Julia Quinn novels。 The subject matter includes traumas, and while I truly appreciated and enjoyed the story when finished [resolutions make a lot of things better] it also meant that there was a lot of sadness for me as the reader。 That aspect of a story adds a level of complexity that can elevate a book and it's characters, however。 And in the end I found the story to be very well done and easy to recommend。 。。。more

I fell in love with Daniel Smythe Smith, he freely admits being bewitched and mad all at once 。 The book was funny, witty and delightful。 I read and re read , Anne s story was so heartfelt and our hero did not falter to save her , true love triumphs… even in a story book。

SO good! Reminded me of the 3rd Bridgerton book because of the “class-differences between lovers” theme! Loved how this one overlapped with the first Smythe-Smythe book。 This series is awesome!

While this is a very lovely and dreamy story, I didn’t understand why Danielle actually loves Anne other than the fact she is beautiful。 They both were surely infatuated by one another from the very first scene but there is no sign of why they actually love each other。Overall it’s a nice book with a good dialogue flow and not to mention the funny smith cousins conversations but JQ could’ve done a better job at showing the audience the eternal facts of why they wanted to get married。

---Thanks to my reading partner, it was a awesom experience, full of fun and joy! I really like this book and its characters。 Anne and Daniel are great, they both can be very diferent from the other romantic couples from these books。 I think the fact that Anne is a common person, not from high society makes her much more interesting and normal。 I like that! Also think that the story has a lot of action, mystery and strong emotions。 This is a more dynamic plot and more thrilling。 I recommend it! 。。。more

The characters in this series are ridiculous and silly。 Haven’t liked the first book and not this one either。 It’s so stupid。 First of all, it was very insta lovey。 So much that I just wanted to hit something。 Daniel was annoying。 So annoying。 And why did the author try to incorporate some kind of ridiculous suspense by making them targets of revenge hungry killers? I get that Ramsgate was mad because his son was hurt but seriously George? This book。。。 wow! I don't I ever wanted someone to look at me as much as I want someone to look at me like Daniel looks at Anne。 This book has some triggers on it so please read it with caution if you are sensitive to mentions of SA。 But other than that I read this book and fell in love with everything in it。 The characters, the family, the story。 The little girls are the most precious characters in the world and I would protect them at any cost。 This book was a very strong 4,5 and I had to give This book。。。 wow! Much better than the ratings would have wanted me to believe。 I love a tragic back story。 It gives the whole book an edge, anticipation。 Loved it。

The weather is dreadfully hot this weekend, and despite parking myself in front of an air conditioner, I find myself unable to handle any books that require brainpower。 So I've decided to try and get through as many of the books on my "will probably be getting rid of this" list as possible。 I genuinely enjoyed A Night Like This--Quinn is consistently entertaining and funny。 (Though in this one at least, the humor went a bit over the top。 I don't mind that her books aren't historically accurate-- The weather is dreadfully hot this weekend, and despite parking myself in front of an air conditioner, I find myself unable to handle any books that require brainpower。 So I've decided to try and get through as many of the books on my "will probably be getting rid of this" list as possible。 I genuinely enjoyed A Night Like This--Quinn is consistently entertaining and funny。 (Though in this one at least, the humor went a bit over the top。 I don't mind that her books aren't historically accurate--you know going in not to expect that--but the humor felt so modern that it dragged me out of the story at times。) But despite having fun with it, it's not a book I feel the need to reread or keep on my shelves。 。。。more
