Summary

Eighteen-year-old Gu Miyoung has a secret--she's a gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who must devour the energy of men in order to survive。 Because so few believe in the old tales anymore, and with so many evil men no one will miss, the modern city of Seoul is the perfect place to hide and hunt。

But after feeding one full moon, Miyoung crosses paths with Jihoon, a human boy, being attacked by a goblin deep in the forest。 Against her better judgment, she violates the rules of survival to rescue the boy, losing her fox bead--her gumiho soul--in the process。

Jihoon knows Miyoung is more than just a beautiful girl--he saw her nine tails the night she saved his life。 His grandmother used to tell him stories of the gumiho, of their power and the danger they pose to men。 He's drawn to her anyway。 When he finds her fox bead, he does not realize he holds her life in his hands。

With murderous forces lurking in the background, Miyoung and Jihoon develop a tenuous friendship that blossoms into something more。 But when a young shaman tries to reunite Miyoung with her bead, the consequences are disastrous and reignite a generations-old feud 。 。 。 forcing Miyoung to choose between her immortal life and Jihoon's。

Sigo en shock por el final, amé y odié a muchos personajes, algunos son muy estresantes。Definitivamente Junu y Somin son mis personajes favoritos。

I loved it, you will even love it more if you’re into kdramas and korean culture。 The middle was a bit monotonous but it stayed interesting。 I loved the plot and cant wait to read vicious spirits

This is a book I possibly just read at the right time。 I wanted something easy, fast paced and holding some mythology retelling and some romance that would bring me back into reading。 And this book delivered。It is a YA mythology based contemporary urban fantasy novel situated in Seoul and I loved to see the city and the mythology revolving around the nine tailed fox coming to life in this story。I loved the world building, loved the retelling, loved the characters that hold this mixture of light This is a book I possibly just read at the right time。 I wanted something easy, fast paced and holding some mythology retelling and some romance that would bring me back into reading。 And this book delivered。It is a YA mythology based contemporary urban fantasy novel situated in Seoul and I loved to see the city and the mythology revolving around the nine tailed fox coming to life in this story。I loved the world building, loved the retelling, loved the characters that hold this mixture of light and dark as they do in k-dramas, light hearted and yet touching down on tough subjects。 。。。more

“Gu Miyoung’s relationship with the moon was complicated, as are most relationships centered around power”“Foolish man didn’t know beauty was the best camouflage for a monster”“Sometimes the universe works in odd ways, but family doesn’t not always come about through blood”“Isolation is the enemy of humanity。 Loneliness a threat to empathy”OKAY I REALLY ENJOYED THIS AND I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT 😆😆☺️Honestly, I was so excited to finally read this one - as I have been wanting to read it for “Gu Miyoung’s relationship with the moon was complicated, as are most relationships centered around power”“Foolish man didn’t know beauty was the best camouflage for a monster”“Sometimes the universe works in odd ways, but family doesn’t not always come about through blood”“Isolation is the enemy of humanity。 Loneliness a threat to empathy”OKAY I REALLY ENJOYED THIS AND I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT 😆😆☺️Honestly, I was so excited to finally read this one - as I have been wanting to read it for a while! I loved the relationship between Jihoon and Miyoung - the teasing, cuteness and honesty 🥺 they’re so cute 😭😭ALSO SOMIN IS AWESOME - I LOVED HER FEISTINESS AND COMEBACKS 😆😌✌️ It wasn’t 5 stars for me because I felt that sometimes MiYoung annoyed me (not too sure why but 🤏 a tad annoying)The plot was really good but I don’t know just not amazing? I really enjoyed it but it wasn’t perfect for me。 The storytelling was beautiful and I loved diving deeper into Korean folklore 🥰 I LOVED the fact that the Korean language/words were written throughout (as someone learning Korean) it was exciting seeing the words I now know and understanding their meaning before the official explanation which followed 😌😆Honestly if you enjoy : magic, romance, mystery, (almost) found family and moreeee read this!! I’m super looking forward to reading the sequel!! 😆🦊☺️ 。。。more

A super cute K-drama-esque book。 A quick and fun read that at times succumbs to the sluggish pace of and convoluted plot points that K-dramas have in the middle。 I was admittedly started skimming some bits to get back to the action。 If you’re looking for something that’s cute and filled with Korean culture and folklore, this is for you。

Well I loved this book! I can openly admit it's because K-dramas hold a special place in my heart and this read like one。 Everything I enjoy about K-dramas were present within this novel。 The romance was important but so were all of the different relationships。 It was dramatic and violent and full of action。 I enjoyed it deeply and can't wait to read the next one。 Well I loved this book! 3。5/5 Honestly, as a first book, it was a little too long (not to mention, some things going around and around) but honestly? I liked it。 A lot。 It was like I was watching a K-Drama without actually watching it。 I honestly can’t wait for the second book ❤️ Hopefully it will be just as good!

This book is quintessential at its best! I loved reading this book so much。 It's basically based on Korean folklore about Gumiho- a girl with nine tails and survived on feeding on humans Gi (energy force) every month on full moon night。 That one night she met with a human boy Jihoon and accidentally took her Gumiho bead where it is essential for Gumiyoung to survive if not she will have to feed constantly。 I personally loved the story about Jihoon and his grandma's bond which is so cute and hear This book is quintessential at its best! If you're a fan of urban fantasy, folklore, and k-dramas, then this is the book for you! This is probably one of the more unique fantasy books I've ever read。 It almost reads more as a TV show (if that makes any sense) than a book。 If you're a fan of k-drmas, you'll spot a lot of the same tropes we've come to know and love written within the book。 I never knew much about Korean folklore before, but after reading this book, I'm itching to know more about it。 You can tell the author really poured If you're a fan of urban fantasy, folklore, and k-dramas, then this is the book for you! Absolutely beautiful without a single doubt。 This book is one of the best I've read。 I could feel myself falling in love with the detailed descriptions of emotions and scenery。 The powerful pull of love and despair at the same time。 A must read。 Absolutely beautiful without a single doubt。 This book is one of the best I've read。 I could feel myself falling in love with the detailed descriptions of emotions and scenery。 The powerful pull of love and despair at the same time。 A must read。 。。。more

3。5 really good!Quotes:1。Night and darkness made a believer of everyone。 -Jihoon page 192。 “I like being alone,” Miyoung said。 But she heard the lie in her voice。 No matter how good she was lying to others, she could never master the skill of lying to herself。 -Miyoung page 1853。 “Im used to people leaving,” he continued。 “I’m just not used to them coming back。” -Jihoon page 313

DNF at 83%。 I just don't think the audiobook is the way to go with this one。 I wasn't enjoying listening to this story and wasn't really invested in the characters or where the end was going to go。 I thought the beginning was so intriguing, but then the story fell off and there were a lot of boring parts when the story had so much potential。 I didn't care about the romance and expected so much more from Miyoung since she was a gumiho who had to kill men to live。 She felt very passive and I just DNF at 83%。 I just don't think the audiobook is the way to go with this one。 I wasn't enjoying listening to this story and wasn't really invested in the characters or where the end was going to go。 I thought the beginning was so intriguing, but then the story fell off and there were a lot of boring parts when the story had so much potential。 I didn't care about the romance and expected so much more from Miyoung since she was a gumiho who had to kill men to live。 She felt very passive and I just didn't care enough about her future to finish the end。 No rating for this one since I didn't finish it, but I'm left disappointed in the story。 。。。more

Beautiful storytelling from the very first sentence。 Seriously has to be one of my all time favourite first lines, it set the tone instantly。 I just loved the writing style, it really managed to evoke so many powerful emotions。 I could see the atmosphere, the world, the people and the culture。Seriously this book took me by surprise。 The build of relationships in this book whether it’s between family or friends was so honest。 I really appreciated seeing the dynamics between female characters too。 Beautiful storytelling from the very first sentence。 Seriously has to be one of my all time favourite first lines, it set the tone instantly。 I just loved the writing style, it really managed to evoke so many powerful emotions。 I could see the atmosphere, the world, the people and the culture。Seriously this book took me by surprise。 The build of relationships in this book whether it’s between family or friends was so honest。 I really appreciated seeing the dynamics between female characters too。 When it comes to the plot, it wasn’t the fastest。 Didn’t botherme one bit because that’s not really what draws you in。 You want to know what happens to these characters and those chapters where things like the mythology/history were delved into were fantastic。 I mean, you probably know you’re going to love a book when the first sentence makes you want to annotate。 Stunning book。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I've been wanting to read Wicked Fox for a while now。 I'm glad I finally did! I enjoyed it a lot。 I was especially excited to read this because my parents lived in Seoul, Korea for a couple years so I've had a bunch of Korean food and I've heard the language a lot (they speak in Korean when they don't want me and my siblings heading what they're saying :p)。 Hah I also remember years and years ago watching a little bit of a kdrama called My Girlfriend is a Gumiho。 Anyways, I loved this book! 2。5 stars。This is the perfect fusion of a k-drama and a YA fantasy, only I am not really a fan of either of those things。 Like Shadowhunters meets Dokkaebi (but everyone is really mean and sixteen)。 The (pop-)culture references were sweet though, and it's cool to see an authentic modern Asian urban fantasy setting realised in such an accessible way。 2。5 stars。This is the perfect fusion of a k-drama and a YA fantasy, only I am not really a fan of either of those things。 Like Shadowhunters meets Dokkaebi (but everyone is really mean and sixteen)。 The (pop-)culture references were sweet though, and it's cool to see an authentic modern Asian urban fantasy setting realised in such an accessible way。 。。。more

I had such a fun time reading this。 There were some moments that felt a tiny bit fan fiction-y。 I also feel (slight spoiler) when Jihoon said they should actually start dating, Miyoung was won over a little too quickly。 To me it also felt a little slow in the middle but not enough that I was bored。 Overall it was entertaining and a fun read which is kind of all that matters to me when reading。

Wicked fox by Kat cho⠀⠀🌝It's a story about, a woman and her daughter who are less human。Their longing for love leads them into same situation。 While one story ends bad, the other longs for a different turn。 ⠀⠀🌝The author threw light on the Korean folklore beliefs, alongside the story, which justified and carried the plot too well。 The climax as a whole seemed interesting to me but left me with few unanswered questions。 Hope, there's a part that follows。 ⠀⠀🌝I recommend this book to people who enj Wicked fox by Kat cho⠀⠀🌝It's a story about, a woman and her daughter who are less human。Their longing for love leads them into same situation。 While one story ends bad, the other longs for a different turn。 ⠀⠀🌝The author threw light on the Korean folklore beliefs, alongside the story, which justified and carried the plot too well。 The climax as a whole seemed interesting to me but left me with few unanswered questions。 Hope, there's a part that follows。 ⠀⠀🌝I recommend this book to people who enjoy tranquil storyline and also who love korean stuff。⠀ 。。。more
