Summary

Not what I was expecting。 Loved it。

Now this is a phenomenal thriller - it’s weird and charming (kind of) and twisty and totally original。 I started to doubt the author about halfway through the book, but I should have trusted the story。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Fortunately for me I like weird books。 The Last House on Needless Street reminds me in some ways, of Night of the Mannequins by Stephen Graham Jones。 Despite being sick to death of thrillers involving multiple personality disorder as it was once called, I actually loved the various points of view in this one。 Overall I found it to be a very well written, imaginative survival story。 I would've never expected to end up liking the main character。 Bravo Catriona Ward, great book。 Fortunately for me I like weird books。 The Last House on Needless Street reminds me in some ways, of Night of the Mannequins by Stephen Graham Jones。 Despite being sick to death of thrillers involving multiple personality disorder as it was once called, I actually loved the various points of view in this one。 Overall I found it to be a very well written, imaginative survival story。 I would've never expected to end up liking the main character。 Bravo Catriona Ward, great book。 。。。more

Wow。 I don’t know how to describe this book。 There is so much to it and I don’t want to give anything away。 What I will say is that this book has layers。 You are constantly trying to figure out what is really going on。 Which I love。 Yes, I was very confused at parts but I’m ok with that。 If that bugs you then don’t read this。 There are 4 narrators。 A man named Ted, his cat Olivia, his daughter Lauren and Dee, a woman whose sister disappeared years ago。 If you can be patient and you can handle so Wow。 I don’t know how to describe this book。 There is so much to it and I don’t want to give anything away。 What I will say is that this book has layers。 You are constantly trying to figure out what is really going on。 Which I love。 Yes, I was very confused at parts but I’m ok with that。 If that bugs you then don’t read this。 There are 4 narrators。 A man named Ted, his cat Olivia, his daughter Lauren and Dee, a woman whose sister disappeared years ago。 If you can be patient and you can handle some dark subject matter then I definitely recommend this。 And yes it is dark but it’s not some gruesome horror story。 There is more to it than that。 A lot more。Thanks to NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

WOW。 Bit confusing but amazing writing and did not expect where that went at all!

The Last House on Needless Street is a dark and twisty tale that deftly stitches together many character’s POVs starting with Ted, his daughter, and his cat。 We hear their own tales of Little Girl with Popsicle, the Teds, the Green Boys, and so much more。 It has been called a masterpiece, and rightly so。 It’s a sad and terrifying story that feels more like a spell。 Saying more—even a little—would be an injustice to the reader。 Go into this one as if you were exploring the creepy, haunted house a The Last House on Needless Street is a dark and twisty tale that deftly stitches together many character’s POVs starting with Ted, his daughter, and his cat。 We hear their own tales of Little Girl with Popsicle, the Teds, the Green Boys, and so much more。 It has been called a masterpiece, and rightly so。 It’s a sad and terrifying story that feels more like a spell。 Saying more—even a little—would be an injustice to the reader。 Go into this one as if you were exploring the creepy, haunted house at the end of the street where everyone fears to tread。 Where the owner could come home at any minute and catch you。 This is a horror and a thriller with a slow creep。 It does have its heartwarming moments but be warned。 This novel niggles and gnaws at the corners of your brains, and purrs along at just the right clip until you are feeling nice and comfortable with your darkest fears。 That’s when you’ll find that knife in your belly。 Buckle up, pilgrims, because Ward is in full control and, believe me, you’ll want someone as skilled and crafty behind the wheel on this inimitable and harrowing ride down Needless Street。Ted’s story is disturbing on so many levels, but the writer makes it worth it。 It is my introduction to Catriona Ward’s writing。 This book is a triumph。 I cannot wait to see this one brought to the big screen。 Andy Serkis will certainly have his hands full with the adaptation。 Now, I must away, to find her other novels。 The audiobook I listened to, narrated by Christopher Ragland, was provided to me courtesy of the publisher, Macmillan Audio, #NetGalley, and the author in exchange for my review。 I am thrilled to have been able to get a sneak peek。 。。。more

This book was a lot of things and I expected exactly none of them。 I went in with a few preconceived idea as to what kind of book this would be and I was completely wrong in the best of ways。The story unfolds slowly, throwing you hints here and there as to what is really happening。 Just enough to keep you wanting for more and more and not being able to put the book down。 I finished it a couple of days ago and still think of some scenes that take a whole new meaning with hindsight。I definitely re This book was a lot of things and I expected exactly none of them。 I went in with a few preconceived idea as to what kind of book this would be and I was completely wrong in the best of ways。The story unfolds slowly, throwing you hints here and there as to what is really happening。 Just enough to keep you wanting for more and more and not being able to put the book down。 I finished it a couple of days ago and still think of some scenes that take a whole new meaning with hindsight。I definitely recommend this book and will check out others by the same author。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The beginning of the book was very creepy and seemed to elude to more of a horror story。 As I kept reading though, it turned into a completely different story。 While the ending was a bit confusing and I still have unanswered questions, it was a good read and kept me guessing。

Holy cats this book!I received this as an ARC goodreads giveaway。This story was very griping and unique。 It was chilling and kept me up at night, unable to stop thinking about what I was reading。 I would have finished it in one sitting (versus two) but responsibilities got in the way。 I thought the writing throughout was fantastic, "The first thing I hate is called a Russian doll。 It holds a smaller version of itself inside it, and another inside that and so on。 How awful。 They are prisoners。 I Holy cats this book!I received this as an ARC goodreads giveaway。This story was very griping and unique。 It was chilling and kept me up at night, unable to stop thinking about what I was reading。 I would have finished it in one sitting (versus two) but responsibilities got in the way。 I thought the writing throughout was fantastic, "The first thing I hate is called a Russian doll。 It holds a smaller version of itself inside it, and another inside that and so on。 How awful。 They are prisoners。 I imagine them all screaming in the dark, unable to move or speak。 The doll’s face is broad and blankly smiling。 It looks so happy to be holding its children captive。"I was not sure how I felt about Oliva's POV but it all came together and I am glad that it did not deter me。 This story slowly revealed its secrets, or lies, or I guess both。 Without giving anything away, I read through the story again each time it revealed itself, with a very different perspective, it was really well done。This is also not for everyone。 I would definitely recommend this book but only to those who enjoy phycological horror。 I am going to read this author's author books, but maybe after something a little lighter first! 。。。more
